When we are in Corwen we always seem to be drawn back to the Workhouse for a drink before we explore the adjacent well stocked shop inside the old building. Beverages and food are at a reasonable price and the staff friendly and efficient; so when in the area we will call once more.

Hubby and me visited Corwen yesterday (Wednesday). We managed to park easily. The public toilets now cost 30 pence to use! so I went to the Community Centre where a lovely lady on reception let me use their facilities for free (thank you). First on our itinerary was Corwen Manor Cafe which is a dominant landmark on the busy A5. Unfortunately it is closed on Wednesdays. However, we were still able to look around the outside where I saw a plaque on the wall saying that these premises used to be a workhouse. I was very interested in this fact so when I got back home I just had to research its history. This Grade 2 listed building was originally built as a workhouse in 1840 to house 150 poor people. They lived in 2 separate wings - men/boys on one side and women/girls on the other. It was built in the form of a cross which separated the grounds into 4 yards where able-bodied residents worked hard for their keep. Between 1840 and 1880, 164 babies were born at the workhouse. In that same 40 year period, 283 adults and children died. The workhouse closed 1940. The premises are now used as a Cafe and shop selling candles, crafts and fishing supplies.

On our way to Porthmadog we stopped in this small café and enjoyed a very pleasant snack. It was clean, comfortable, lovely staff very friendly and popular with cyclists who we believe use this café regularly. The Mushroom Soup was gorgeous and well worth trying. This is a place we will definitely use again. In fact we did on our way back and had toasted teacake also very good washed down with nice coffee.

Okay, so it was once the workhouse, but that shouldn't detract. The staff were on the slow side, it took fifteen minutes to make a sandwich, and I was the only one in there, and again, a credit card caused an issue.

Cayó en como era la única cafetería sigue abierto; y el edificio parecía interesante.El café olía a humedad y a humedad, bastante desagradable y parecía sucia aunque quizás injusta. . . . .

The cafe is friendly and functional. We had tea/coffee and scones. Not that far from Corwen's temporary railway station. Old workhouse building must be a contender for National Trust status!

The cafe is in a part of this HUGE and rather dilapidated building that houses a fishing tackle/wool/candle emporium. The little cafe itself is a step back in time with willow pattern crockery and old favourites like beans on toast and tinned soup (tomato or mushroom) on the menu plus a selection of bought in and home made biscuits and cakes - but all at 1980s prices! Very cheap but not very cheerful - although on a good day you could sit outside which would be cheerier. The old building is fascinating and more could be made of its history, it is a shame it is slowly decaying.

Fresh cakes , nothing to dislike! There is a very good knitting shop, gift shop with some very nice thing in it and a fishing tackle shop all in the same building which used to be the old workhouse.

Nice small cafe inside the old workhouse buildings complex which also houses a large gift shop and fishing and outdoors shop. The staff are very friendly and helpful and it's nice to have a good pot of tea and a snack after browsing in the large and interesting shop and having a look around the historic buildings which are well worth a few photos!

Went in for a quick drink, the atmosphere was good, lots of drink choices which Mike behind the bar was really great with helping us decide what to have. We will definitely be visiting again when we are back in Wales.

So lovely warm greeting I ordered two strong hot chocolates and a round of Welsh cakes which was duly served and the hot chocolate was nice a strong full of flavour. The staff were friendly chatty and took genuine interest in who you were. I would highly recommend this cafe

We came to sweet daisy for ice cream after a meal at the pub. There were eight of us so a big order. The man who served us was lovely, smiley and patient. There was a long queue forming behind us but we didn’t feel rushed. The ice creams were delicious and my sister said ‘felt like they went on forever’ 😍 which is quite the compliment! I had a rocky road and it was the best most delicious ice cream I’ve had all summer. Thank you.

Been here numerous times and it was very good. This visit was awful and we’d recommended it to our friends who we were with. There were only 3 other tables occupied and there were 3 young girls waiting on. They were excellent at avoiding eye contact, we had to ask for menus and then had to ask for our orders to be taken, it was possibly the longest wait for food that we’d ever had. We came a few weeks ago and the staff were 3 ladies who were excellent, very engaging and efficient, what’s happened to them? Our food portions were far smaller than usual and there were things missing from previously eaten meals from the same menu. This place has definitely gone downhill and we would be reluctant to return.
