Copsey's in Maldon

Stewart and myself had Fish n Chips with Curry Sauce everything was Cooked Fresh only waiting 8 to 10 minutes but that's not a problem for a Quality Meal and that's just what we got and it was well worth it after fishing for 3 days at H's Lake and just what was needed before our long drive back to Derby

We always pop in when we're passing even if we're not hungry and have always been impressed.

Average prices, chips are quite good, freshly cooked

Had a lunch nice and hot not that crispy chips but hit the spot.

Ordered a large Cod and Chips which came to £13. Portion of chips was a fair size, but the “large” cod was not. Maybe “large” in Heybridge is different to the rest of Essex. Also it was just a lame piece of cod. We air fried the whole dish for another five minutes but it didnt improve things. For £13 I wasnt expecting 5 star cuisine but I was anticipating a good takeaway. Sorry Copseys, I just dont think you’re much cop for the price of your cod.

Food was very good, quick service. Update - Second visit 1 year later - not quite as good as before, but still enjoyable.

Had to wait, when I got food home it was like warm, dished up as soon as I arrived home.

First time popped in here and to be honest it wasn't great!. £5.40 for a quarter chicken, we got two.. but it's far from a quarter. Its half the breast with the ribs attached So 10.80 for one chicken breast that was put in microwave first then in frier and was so dry it awful,

The man serving was so rude. The food was miserable, only had a chip butty for my lunch. I will never attend or recommend that restaurant again

Can’t believe what we was given the pie was so dry and so was the battered sausage must have sat out for days! The sausage was not even a normal colour. Couldn’t even touch in case we got ill. Won’t be using again

Easiest place to stop outside food ok always have everything on the menu never normally have to wait long for food even if cooked from scratch

This is the 5th time i have used this fish bar and every time theres never any chips ready straight away , its a chip shop surely it can not be that hard to cook chips ready and not have to wait 20 minutes

I've had fish and chips from here a couple of times. The food is OK but both times when I tried to pay by card, they pushed me to pay cash. I challenged them on the second occasion but was still told that I needed to pay cash, although I saw a lady pay by card on my previous visit. Not impressed!

Good traditional fish and chip shop. Our fish was cooked fresh! Which is why it tasted so good. The business looked clean and the price was about right (£8 for cod £2.80 for chips) good selection of food also. Have been to this shop a few times now

Found hard bone in sausage while eating in shop. Staff rude and said wasn’t hard… sausage is soft. I’m showing him the SOGGY Battered sausage and the bones in it. They don’t care. Absolutely rubbish food and customer care

Overpriced, rude, chips anaemic. I've been here twice now and both times were awful. The older member of staff is incapable of communicating with the public, two small fish and chips £18?! I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, there are better fish and chip shops in Heybridge.

An excellent NGS day at Ulting Wick and freezing walk at Heybridge Basin meant I ignored my homemade munch+Thermos. Fish and chips are maybe a once-a-decade thing for me😁. Both staff, their kindness, patience and prices were fabulous, as was the freshly battered cod - huge portions, too! 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, absolutely.

We live opposite a fish and chip shop in chelmsford,for the last 4 years we travel to maldon to copseys fish and chip shop The fish and chips they serve is so fresh and worth the travelling,thankyou

£6.60 for two portions of chips and a tiny fish cake And the quality isn’t all there Looks like we’re paying for the new menu board So expensive for not very good quality and items bought Wouldn’t recommend much better places around Cash only what’s all that about it 2020 really

This used to be one of the best fish shops in Essex, not know more the fish didn’t taste like cod was dry, batter soft and very oily chip was mostly slivers hardly any real chips which were dry and had little taste and £8.30 for medium size portion was expensive,

Popped in quite late for a Friday evening here for a late takeaway supper and have to say our meal was lovely. Some places you ill find the chips to be over cooked but not here. Just right! Will be back again soon.

Unfortunately this place has gone downhill over the past year or two. The jumbo sausage, we had, was certainly not 1st cooked that evening (5:30pm) as very hard and uneatable!

been coming her for 3 years whenever I'm down at my boat. But seems that the ownership has changed and sorry but things aren't as good as they used to be. Recently when I came in on a Saturday [within 30 mins of advertised closing time] I was told the fryers were already turned off. I was offered a pie or sausage but no fish! 2nd time happy to wait for the fish to be cooked [it's going to be fresh] but was only average compared to the crisp battered fish I had always enjoyed from this place before. Disappointing. Will give it one more try !

I've have had my fish & chips from here for the last 3 years but seems to have been a change of owners and can't recommend like I did before.

The prices were quite dear at the Heybridge lock restaurants for a family so we decided to go back to the chippie we had passed on our 3 mile walk and eat our order, sat on a bench opposite the canal. They service was very friendly and the portions were huge. One of the best fish n chips I’ve had! Lovely, golden and crisp, really tasty and not overly greasy. Fish was gorgeous. I’m rarely beaten by a portion of fish n chips, but the medium size cod n chips beat me today! So glad we passed on the lock restaurants for a much more unique experience of eating with the peace and quiet of being by the canal.

A small boutique fish and chip shop in the heart of London. Great customer service and vibe. Long queue outside but seated quickly. Ordered traditional fish and chips with mushy peas and a side of buttered bread. The food was great and came out very quickly. I highly recommended visiting this place

Restaurant at our hotel was closed for the evening so we popped in for some fish & chips. So nice to have them made fresh while you wait as opposed to eating pre prepared! Generous portions!

So we are clear this is a take away food establishment rather than a restaurant. That being said they have a friendly owner and staff and the food is always of high quality. It has been established a number of years and has been consistently good.

Chips were fresh and crispy. Not greasy. Large is a decent portion. The fish batter was nicely cooked with a fresh tasting piece of cod. Curry sauce was thick with good flavour. The mushy pea’s were very tasty but the portion size was too small. Staff were friendly. I would eat there again.

The one thing that you'd hope that a chip shop would get right is the chips. But no. They were so undercooked I threw most of them away. Battered sausage was nice though. Also cheap.

Great fish and chips for all the family but fabulous for me as a coeliac because they provide gluten free food cooked in separate oil. Amazing! Has restored my pleasure in eating fish and chips.

When weve been out to the Maldon Prom for the afternoon, nothing better than a good bag of chips and battered sausage from Copseys

This used to be the best chip shop in the area, but sadly now it is just average, not terrible but not special any more. Friday nights the que used to be down the road a way!

The place to go if you want great fish and chips or even pie and chips. Staff are always friendly and it's great value for money.
