Cookhouse Pub & Carvery in Denbighshire

Value for money, great food and delicious carvery with generous portions. It was recommended by 3 different people and I'm glad I visited.

Great pub, food is amazing, staff are lovely & friendly always. Everytime we come away near here we use this pub for food wish it was nearer home. All staff & manager were extremely helpful.

Good for family get-together or a nice day or evening out. Great staff and good atmosphere. Lots to pick from the menu. Staff friendly.

Got to say a very good carvery and service very good from chef. However, some question marks over hygiene. Our table was reserved but we had to ask for it to be cleaned. Also the front of house staff strangely had dog bowls on one of the tables before the next couple arrived and again, table was not cleaned. Improve this side of things and would be spot on. It's dog friendly so bear that in mind too. We had to endure loud barking that kept startling us and customers openly feeding dogs Sunday carvery. Ugh.

Breakfast was ok. Bar and table staff were lovely. The woman serving behind the hot breakfast counter sort yourself out not sure what her problem was? I wouldn’t really recommend tbh we won’t be returning

Wine was warm, glass was warm out of the dishwasher, 2nd time I spoke to the young manager, asked me what I wanted him to do? A cold wine? He explained it was the busiest day of the year, not my problem, if your charging full price, deliver the service you pay for, then he started getting annoyed and called me “love” told him not to call me that , denied it and said he could call me something worse than love!! Asked him what and he backtracked! Great manager there at the moment, aggressive and rude!

Top Establishment,Top Staff. Visited here twice consecutive nights. Dog friendly & went out of there way to make us all welcome. Won’t use anywhere else now when we return to Prestatyn. Excellent in every aspect. Hats off to all staff working here. Top service.

A Sunday afternoon family meal. Carvery, as always, excellent. My wife chose to have Salmon instead of a roast and says it was delicious. Been here quite a few times and food and staff have been excellent every time.

We come here for a carvery as we come here last year to be honest it’s a really nice place the food is fresh the fish my partner had was really nice the only problem I had was the carrots looked 4 days old and the green beans were like chewing gum that was the only veg they had the meat was nice and the potatoes and mash was ok just would have liked to see some more veg like peas sprouts or cauliflower

I have to say great find for opus food was very good , for the price menu had a good mix of food on it The staff very friendly , our first time in the area, best of all dog friendly ,a place to return.

Met up with family here whilst on holiday. Booked for ten of us at lunchtime, Sunday 31st March. We all had the Carvery, which we all agreed was excellent. We were seated at a large, long table with plenty of space, not crammed in. The staff were very pleasant, and the chef on the carvery really seemed to enjoy being there! My wife and I booked another evening here the day before leaving for home, and the 'All you can eat' breakfast on the Saturday morning when we were leaving. We had another carvery on the Friday (6th April - again excellent) and the breakfast on Saturday morning was amazing. It was only the drive home that stopped me having more! Fantastic choice and all cooked perfectly. Very good price too, shame it's only weekends! All in all three great experiences congratulations to the staff, recommend 100%.

Although we were early we were given our reserved table so we could eat as soon as we got to Prestatyn The food was good quality and plentiful. This is one of our ‘go to’ restaurants when we visit our caravan. Always good food and good service.

We are members of the Liege car club who were competing in the 100th Lands End Trial over Easter weekend. We had booked a table for 16 people for 6.15 pm on Easter Saturday but the trial was running very late due to hold ups on the event. This meant that we all arrived at Fraddon at different times. We did rearrange our eating time more than once and each time it presented no problem. The last group arrived at 8.15 pm after the early arrivals had finished their meals. Robbie and Abbey and the team at Fraddon were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was good and the whole team were polite and helpful. So thank you to all the team at Fraddon for making our evening most enjoyable.

Wow the meals were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Carvery so tasty and fresh,and my son’s fish and chips was spot on. Good quality food,excellent service and a lovely clean pub. Thanks so much we will definitely be returning!

The Sunday carvery was spot on. Meat cooked perfectly, plenty of choice of vegetables. Desserts finished off the meal but eaten with soup spoons and not dessert spoons so couldn't eat all my sundae

Had a lovely meal here the other night, was a lovely pub and seemed pretty quiet, the only thing was the staff were so miserable, not a smile off one of them, so put us off going again, but cant fault the food and value.

Friendly helpful staff with good accommodation for our little dog. My prawn salad was very tasty and my family enjoyed their meals. One of the few places in Prestatyn that seems to serve lunch during the week out of season.

Absolutely beautiful what you see in the pictures is what we just got, What I can’t describe was the taste. Really really good Usually beef which I normally find hit and miss I will avoid But not here it really was 10/10 I found this restaurant by accident right next to the train station An I’m so glad I did !!

I drove over to The Cook House for a bite of lunch yesterday, Wednesday 24th. I am a support worker and bought one of my gorgeous ladies for lunch. We weren’t disappointed! I had the carvery, and my girl had the kids burger meal! The food was amazing! Served by the polite, friendly, charming Sam, nothing too much trouble! And waited on by Siân, again, absolutely lovely! So helpful both of them! The beef was so tender! And gravy was delicious, as was the veg and extras! Great effort team - especially as you were so so busy! We’ll be back!

Booked Christmas dinner out for the first time ever with family. Bearing in mind, we hadnt been to this kind of restaurant before so all unsure of how it worked with it being a carvery. We had to wait almost 10 minutes before being greeted at the door and that was only because I went over to the bar to ask for help! Our table wasnt set properly at all. Some placements had 2 forks some had 1 fork and no knife. Was a shambles! Waited 30 minutes for our starters, then after having to clear our own table, we waited another 15 minutes before deciding to ask at the carvery what we should do and where to get plates etc?! The server at the carvery was literally sweating into the food and working alone! Got back to the table and our plates etc were still at the end of the table where we left them after clearing! The dinner was actually ok (despite the sweat). We then waited another 20-30 mins before we cleared our own plates to the end of the table, once again. Then another 15 or so minutes before they were cleared!! Eventually, dessert arrived and we just left as soon as we had finished. There was no Christmas atmosphere, no music, no greetings as such at all. Far too many kids running around while people were eating!! Staff were so unhelpful. So disappointed, never again!

Following a disappointing Christmas lunch and complaint to the venues events manager we were offered a complimentary meal and drink. We visited on a very wet cold Friday and had the fish and chips. Staff were great and the place was lovely and warm. Fish and chips were excellent and we had latte to warm us up. Thank you Shelly for sorting this out and we will return.

Due to sad circumstances we decided to have Christmas dinner out instead of at home, so a lot was riding on this. We had originally stopped going some time ago due to the carvery being lukewarm/dry so I was very wary of what to expect but I needn't have worried. Food was hot and enjoyable. Manager Sam was organised, professional and understanding while charming waiting/bar staff were attentive without being suffocating and as a result we will go back again. A thoroughly lovely day that we will remember thanks to the team.

Absolutiey fantastic visit with my daughter and her friend who are 10 they had pre New Year’s Eve entertainment for the kids with games music dancing ect was avery pleasant and fun atmosphere the kids got lots of prizes for dancing and winning/participating in games . Kids loved it I enjoyed it too . 10/10 all round

First Christmas day dinner out: Wasn't enough staff, every table was full and bar still serving drinks to people with no bookings. Huge dog that was very distressed on table beside us barking throughout dinner. Staff had misplaced the pre-ordered food menu so we had to tell them what we wanted all over again for each serving. Starters and mains were nice and presented well. Dessert (cheese cake) unfortunately had curdled so they offered to replace them with fudge cake. Staff were very friendly considering all the work they had to do. Was terrible, our afternoon was ruined. We made up for it when we got home though!

Our 2nd Christmas Day at the Cookhouse Prestatyn. Food was great again, service slightly less personal than last year but with a busy restaurant maybe that is asking too much. Overall, another positive experience for our family - well done team 👏👏

We have never been out for lunch on Christmas Day but decided this year we would. The best decision we made as the food was fantastic. The staff went above and beyond to make it a special occasion. The food was really good and the meals where served very quickly which we wanted. It was very Christmassy in the restaurant and would definitely go there again. The cost of the 3 course meal was high but well worth it. If you take into account how hard the staff worked.

Me and my Husband and two Grandkids went last night. The boys had hunters chicken which was Luke warm. They ate as they were really hungry. My Husband had steak and I had a mixed grill. The mushrooms on both were freezing cold, the meat was almost cold and, you can imagine a cold egg! Ugh! We told the server and she said she would get us fresh food in exchange for the cold stuff. She came back with it and it had been warmed up so, my Husbands medium rare steak was now well done and dry and so was the chicken on my mixed grill. The (chef) 🤣 had done me a fresh egg, that was it. It was obviously too much trouble to serve food as the staff (including the so called chef were all changed into their own clothes just after we had been served and we’re having a drink in the bar area. As our table was booked for 7.30 pm and nobody else was eating at that time we couldn’t understand how the food was almost cold. When I grill at home and serve it straight away it’s always hot so we didn’t understand. The staff were more interested in getting their drinks than serving customers. Needless to say, we won’t be going there again!!!

We had the carvery, turkey was so dry I has to spit it out, roast potatoes were dry and very hard, pigs in blankets were rock solid. Ordered my son an 8 oz gammon steak and when it arrived it was so small I had to give him some of my gammon off my carvery. Much improvement needed.

We visited late afternoon. Some of the carvery had clearly been cooked and sitting for a long time, as you couldn't get a knife through the roast potatoes. There was no cabbage or sprouts, odd for November and the only beef was rare. I would have expected a choice. The food was served on really cold plates so went cold very quickly. Basic things done badly

We had a lovely meal. I am really fussy about my steak as I cook it for my family regularly. I really dancied a steak and asked for it to be cooked rare, fully expecting to be slightly disappointed. It came out cooked to perfection. And tbe quality of the steak was great - no gristle. And the staff were fsntastic too!

Should have left as soon as we sat down due to the foul mouthed customer openly vaping on another table, ordered the gammon steak. The peas were hard the chips Luke warm and the egg was runny and not just the yoke. The serving staff are really good though.

Came here on a whim on a day out on Rhyl for my friends 30th, there were 10 of us so we weren’t expecting to get a table. Not only did we quickly get a table for us but they gave my friend a little birthday present and card and put up birthday decorations for us! Food was lovely and good range of drinks. Would happily come back, great service with lovely staff

Picked this pub because it was near the station and was offering a Senior Citizen Carvery. It was superb and the staff very friendly. Plenty on the plate for us oldies and the price was very reasonable. My husband likes his red meat and he had 3 big thick slices.

As it was a Sunday, we thought we would book a place that serves carvery. As carvery is in the name, we thought it would be good. Unfortunately, the service was shocking, the food was even worst and the customer service was 0! Undercooked veg, dried out under the heaters and the potatoes were frozen and over cooked, meat was dry, thank god for gravy! No vegetarian gravy options so you had to go without! Never going back.
