Insufficient waiting area at busy times. Portions too big. Hour long wait not flagged up when ordering. Make sure you ask! Also - Plastic cutlery. Plastic tubs. Plastic bad.

Haven't been here in years and definitely won't be back. Salt and pepper chips not the best and dear for what it was. Salt and pepper chicken was so dry and hard could hardly chew it. The satay sauce was anything but satay sauce was far too spicy and watery. Seen better portions elsewhere, there was no value for money.

This is our local takeaway and I have to say that I have yet to find a better one. A few weeks ago they reopened after a long lockdown and since then we enjoyed their food twice. Superb food and great value - it's good that they're back !

Worst chips in Scotland, the chips must have been fried on the Monday then reheated everyday and served up on the Saturday! Also the dearest Chinese in Scotland. Spend £40 and not even a free prawn cracker! If their chips were better and you got deals or a freebie if you spent so much then it would get a better review.

Food is magic if I wasn't 4 tht I wouldn't go bk.but the lady on the desk is so rude and obnoxious. Such a bad attitude to her customers who keep her livelihood going.

Nice Chinese food good portion s

Always friendly and accommodating. May and her husband work really hard and deliver on taste and quality every time. I was touched that May delivered our food to the door because she couldn’t get a taxi to deliver. I’m a fuss-pot vegetarian and I never feel that I’m an inconvenience when I make specific dietary requests. I feel that some people are quite unkind about the owners but it’s one of the most popular Chinese takeaways in the area. I’ve been a loyal customer for quite some time and wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else.

Little Chinese lady extremely rude but food is brilliant

This is our local take away and for the first time in a while we had their food on Saturday evening. It was absolutely delicious and the portions were really generous. Without doubt, the best Chinese take away anywhere !

Food good , young girl nice , older dragon who comes out from the kitchen , no manners , abrupt, needless too say won't be going back again , at least a masin on Springfield road the food and the service is second to none , and friendly , the stars for the food

Best takeaway in Elgin, staff aren't always the best but it's definitely worth it for the food. I would recommend all of their special dishes and their fried rice is 👌.

Food consistently excellent, best Chinese takeaway in Elgin. Regular customer for many years and although the lady behind the counter can sound rude, the food is always, hot and tasty.

Ordered by phone for collection. Fantastic service and very tasty food. Always get my orders 100% correct. THE BEST Chinese food you will eat in Elgin bar none.

I have literally phoned the Cook House 102 times this evening, I asked Google’what time they closed it said 10pm...Well i started phoning at 9.20pm and it said user ‘busy’ (the lady behind the desk is notorious for taking the phone off the hook when it’s ringing) I knew then it was going to be a waste of time. I carried on because why the hell not. At QUARTER TO TEN it rang with an automated voice saying when it was closed (not when I was calling). Which means to me. She takes the phone off the hook at maybe twenty passed nine until quarter to ten so she doesent have to bother doing her job. Absolute joke. Very unhappy (loyal) customers!

Don’t know why people in new Elgin are so loyal to the cookhouse. It’s over rated the portions are small and it’s expensive! Woman behind the counter is nuts she went mental one night and locked everyone in!

Woman who owns it is horrible if her niece is working on the counter she is lovely, food is so salty it is almost unedible along with small portions and high prices this must be the worst Chinese in Elgin

There are better takeaways in Elgin. Customer service makes you feel uncomfortable.

Lady on the till basically shouts at everyone

Voy al cocinero de la casa todo el tiempo para la comida. Siempre me ha gustado, aunque veo que algunos comentarios están hablando cuando mencionan que es un poco salado. . .Me han caído fatal de la mujer detrás del mostrador. Me gritó cuando me señaló que había recibido la orden equivocado y me dijeron que tenía de hecho pedí lo que me habían dado (ni siquiera como chow mein). Se arregló eventualmente y si ella con un grano de sal (intencionado) que es un buen lugar para comer.

He estado pidiendo desde aquí ya que podría hablar, así hablando hace 28 años, nunca tuve un problema. A quien no le guste la comida obviamente nunca había probado "El pollo con arroz frito estilo Chino" - incluso los seguían en sus instalaciones de última y toda mi familia hemos clasificado por más tiempo que el que yo tengo. Siempre es nuestro favorito - me dan acerca de la señorita, pero vamos a ser justos es "peculiar" más que nada, y que están constantemente ocupados. Lo dice. Puede llegar a través de casi nunca para una hora porque hay tan popular - aquellos con malas experiencias deberían probar de nuevo. :) x

The woman behind the counter needs an award, surely this woman has got to be the rudest woman working in a customer service role in the UK. She demands your money with a rude bark, then swans off and mutters '10 minutes' not a please or a thank you to be heard,25 minutes later you are still sitting waiting even after phoning ahead. Then finally as you start to grow weak as starvation begins to take hold,she returns bag held aloft proudly, then proceeds to stand at the counter and shout out your order in a half English half Chinese accent that's incredibly difficult to decipher.Everyone looks around at each other wondering if she's shouting their order, then she repeats it again more slowly, laughable. To top it all the food isn't good either. Just truly abysmal. How this woman keeps any customers I'll never understand.

I have been to the cookhouse many times with no problems, this time though the food was to salty and couldn't be eaten. The older woman was so rude. Sorry but won't be going back, don't waste your money.

Yesterday I ordered a carry out, and went and collected it, (normally the food is spot on)

Having ordered take away here a number of time....the food has NEVER been at fault.....always hot, tasty, and of a high standard....shame can't be the same for the woman that works there....rude, abrupt and bad mannered is want of better words...but as the food is so good....I suppose you can just overlook the service. I'm sure she loves her job deep down.......but certainly food can't be faulted.

While visiting a friend in Elgin we decided to use cook house for a carry out meal. We were there for it opening, and the reception we got,along with other customers was an absolute disgrace.We were served by an older lady, who obviously didn't want to be there serving her customers,I take the first customer she served was a regular or new her as she asked how she was and she ignored her,the customer asked her several times, but was ignored,the older lady never even lifted her head to take the order or said thank you when she took the money, this continued to myself and several other customers,many of the customers commented to each other,in my opinion, if this was my regular Chinese I wouldn't be going back,though the food was very enjoyable,but on the service received, I would give this place a wide berth,this older lady is a disgrace to the business,and if it continues,you are going to end up loosing customers,you are quite expensive and I would expect customer service to be as good as the food.

Bad customer service, tried phoning order in for 1 1/2 hours to discover they are closed. Sort it out cook house. Leave a message on your answer phone if your closed

Good takeaway food, never had an issue, the Ku Bo sauce is a particular favourite of mine! Have been frequenting for years whenever I'm in Elgin, recommended.

I come to this Chinese when I want some crispy pancake rolls but I've seen myself waiting 40minutes after phoning in an order I'm told will take 30 minutes, so a wait time of 1hr 10!! This is a regular occurance so I always wait longer than I'm told now. If the older lady is working she is so rude! She makes you feel like an inconvenience. However, the food has always been tasty and I've always enjoyed it. It is however more expensive than other chineses.

this is by far the worst customer service I have ever received anywhere. Both the man and lady are extremely rude, the portion sizes are diabolical and over priced. They forget items then moan when you call them to ask where the missing items are you are given of torrent of abuse for complaining. The delivery charges are phenomenal as well, take my advice use a different Chinese takeaway, you'll be glad you did.

Go to this chinese now and again if desperate for something really! Although the food is good it is very pricey especially for curry sauce £5! The customer service is a shambles the older woman at the front desk has no manners, is rude and they don't even offer any refunds or compensation if the order takes longer than it should or if the order is wrong! Everything is the customers faults according to the woman who works at the front desk.

I used this Chinese on a regular basis years ago it was great, after tonight, never again. Woman is down right rude! The food was very expensive and terrible however I did receive something extra when I put lettuce on my plate.... It had legs! Whatever it was so the meal ended there..... Stay clear!

Love this Chinese for their food, but their customer service is awful. When it's busy the lady behind the counter can't cope and is just plain rude to customers and I have received the wrong order on more than one occasion. Sadly after tonight's shocking service I don't think I will be returning.

Curry tasted horribly salty! The older woman there is also horrible she has no customer service skills at all! Phoned once for delivery for two meals and only one meal came. Tried to fone back but they closed and turned fones off!!

Have been a regular for over 15 years now! The only Chinesse I like to use! Fast and friendly and the food is always of good quality x

I visited this restaurant twice, once in early December 2012 and in early January 2013. The first time my chicken chow mien with satay sauce was excellent, there was red peppers and the chicken was very tasty. At the new year period I bought the same meal again, this time there was no veg and it was over salted. My kids meals were also very salty.

You know what your getting at this take away its alway very good i am a regular customer
