DONT even dream of eating here ! With a 4.1 review that is declining rapidly all of you who reads this make your own minds up ! It doesn’t need me to show you how poor this place is to be fair I also have the FOOTAGE Please see the BILL that amounted to a grand total of 10 pounds ! Why ? Please read on this is the embarrassing situation that was only tried to be resolved with a call with a VERY RUDE and obnoxious GM of the hotel a Mr Stephen Kershaw (who was asked to call me by the MD of the hospitality management company on balance this chap Richard ellison was very pleasant and handled this is a respectful manner unlike the hotels GM who thought he was trying to be arrogant with me something that doesn’t wash I’m afraid ! Uncooked food staff who aren’t interested and a generally obnoxious general manager of a hotel who thinks he can hide behind a very VERY university owned hotel who’s food is more reflective of a canteen than of a 4 star resteraunt I took some friends into the awful Convine resteraunt where do I start ? Tables that are old and not fit for purpose ? Food that isn’t cooked correctly some burnt some undercooked chicken that must have been left to stew it was literally like string ! It took over 1 hour 45 mins to get served the place needs closing down and to be frank when the General Manager of the hotel was pulled up about this by myself through the MD of the management company running this hotel he was OBNOXIOUS who the hell does he think he is ? The reviews of this place speak for themselves please all read the RECENT post pandemic reviews as this is a true reflection you would be better placed at the Toby carvery down the road than a place of not so FADED grandeur trying to be something it’s not and instead of being constructive in taking criticism attempt to try and deflect the issue by saying “we got a free meal” how dare they ! They will learn the hard way when there’s a downtime in people dining there AVOID at all costs also the toilets filthy in this hotel various reviews will be left at random times by many after this episode to show the hotel it needs to learn to start cleaning up its act ! They had no option but to give us a free meal as it was a disaster with no service worth of even a 1 start hotel let a lot 4 stars they must have been looking at the moon 🌑 itself rather than the actual stars ! When rating this dive a free meal that we didn’t eat ? This is ALL the GM could talk about when it was a DUTY to do this rather than they doing me a favour all they could go on about was I quote “you got a free meal didn’t you ?” Er “yes that we didn’t eat ! “ in reality I should have pressed for compensation off them as this was a meal treat for a cancer patient in my party suffering with TERMINAL cancel but of course they didn’t care about that ! In this era of money and “well we have had many people on that day and no complaints “ the manger seemed more interested in legal challenges than cleaning up the act of a FILTHY establishment where the staff don’t clearly care about how long it takes to service people a CLEAR common them among lots a lot of the reviews both here Tripadvisor and fork plus many many more after this managers should offer apologies to its customers rather than legal challenges that the CANNOT substanciate as they would take years and be quashed by photographic evidence ! And VIDEO footage which demonstrates the moot points discussed here and something everyone who dines there needs to be aware of BEFORE choosing this place ! Responses that aren’t constructive are a reflection of the manner in which things are dealt with here we were affected by the poor service ! So to try and make out any of my party are at fault here won’t be accepted if we were at fault there’s No way a bill of almost nothing would have been produced I’ll leave it go to the people to decide who is at fault as my party and others are more than happy to come forward to stipulate the opposite of the hotels claims obnoxious GM

We booked a table last minute on Friday, my husband and I are local to the area and decided to give it a try as we've been to the Stables a few times and really enjoyed it, and we were impressed! We dined from the market fresh menu which was great, I had the fried chicken which was crispy and lovely, and my husband had the beetroot salmon which looked delicious. I had the fish for main which was also cooked beautifully, as was his duck. The service was excellent too, very friendly whilst also professional. And although the restaurant was busy we didn't wait for our food. As we're local we'll definitely be visiting again! Thank you to all - compliments to the whole team!

When we arrived at the hotel a little out of the city centre. But had a country feel to it driving down the drive. we were greeted at the hotel restaurant, by a young waiter Sat in a booth, tucked away . As with all afternoon teas when we arrive we like to take our time to indulge and chat The afternoon tea menu is a set menu, with 5 sandwiches which is unique as they are all on different bread. I went for the sencha earl grey tea as l am a fan of earl grey and never had this type but will now add it to the list of earl grey I enjoy and my wife chose Luna tea which was amazing The food was divine and nice to see home made scone which are light and not dry Service was next to non really attentive staff who made the experience even more worthwhile Top marks on food, service and ambience

This place is shocking the management have no interest here and the general manager of the hotel OBNOXIOUS he things he can speak to people any way he feels like I’m afraid this is NOT the case ! The Convine resteraunt is a poor excuse for a brasserie the tables rock backwards and forward leaving customers to prop them up the food uncooked and the staff (if you can find them) slow and inattentive ! The place warrants closure and inspection which will be independently done regardless of how the management feel

Very disappointed with the afternoon tea on this visit. This was my 3rd visit. The savouries had dissapered, no sausage roll or onion baji and nothing to replace them. The only savory part were the sandwiches. Instead of an individual chocolate tart we were given the tiniest slither of chocolate tart. The large scone had been replaced with small scones that were very dry, the large scone was delicious on a previous visit. Went on a groupon coupon. Would definitely not have paid full price.

Very disappointed with the afternoon tea. The savouries had been removed from the menu so basically basic sandwiches with dry bread and cakes. The cakes and scones were lovely but the savoury to sweet was very unbalanced. A case of shrinkflation in that the sausage roll and bhaji had not been replaced with anything else. Thankfully this was a Groupon. Would not have paid full price

Booked Sunday lunch for my husband and I for 1pm. We ordered from the 3 course menu. Starters were very tasty and presentation was good . We ordered the roast sirloin meal . Presented well, but oh good grief what a total let down . Tough dry grisley overcooked sirloin . What a sin . You could not cut the overcooked roast potatoes chopped up greens that were cut up so small they were unidentifiable . And the worst was the Utterly tastless gravy . After being a cook for most of my adult life . If you cannot make a good gravy after cooking roast meat you are in the wrong profession. Can I add the waitress was so lovely and attentive towards us .

Went for lunch today with a Wowcher offer, which was £30 for 3 courses for 2 people. Firstly, the deal is excellent value!! The food was a good quality overall, the portions were very generous and the place is lovely. Also, the young lad who served us was really polite and friendly too. A couple of negative points though. Firstly, the guy who welcomed us was a long way from friendly, and felt like it was an inconvenience us being there! A disappointing first impression. Secondly, the set menu was pretty limited. Thirdly, I had fish and chips and the fish was poor quality and the batter was very oily.

Me and my family visited the restaurant today for afternoon tea i paid £30 on Groupon tea for two. I thought the amount of savoury food we got was shocking a couple of small finger sandwiches a sausage roll and an onion bargi then we had a scone sticky toffee pudding and a chocolate tart don’t get excited it was the size of a 10 pence piece and cheesecake that tasted like yoghurt and crushed biscuits not even tasting of lemon. We all came away still feeling hungry. It was a shame really because it was supposed to be a treat for my 60th birthday we have been a couple of years ago and then it was absolutely beautiful. I will not return I am extremely unhappy.

Overpriced crap. The food is terrible!!!!! And very overpriced. Was charged £7 for 2 250ml bottles of lemonade!!!!!! The wagu steak was disgusting. Ordered linguine carbonara. Wasn't served linguine 🤣. Think the chef needs to go back to cooking school. I think because the serve a bit of rocket topped with a smidgen of parmesan they can charge over the odds for it. The garlic bread was deep fried...full of oil 🤢 don't waste your money and a place that looks top notch but has a third rate chef. Chef needs to go back to McDonald's

We ate Sunday lunch here whilst staying at the hotel. What a mistake. We didn't have starters as we thought we wouldn't be able to eat 3 courses. When the roasts arrived, the 'medium rare roast beef' was wafer thin slice of brown meat in gravy, like something you'd buy at the supermarket to go in a sandwich. One carrot and one parsnip each, hard roast potatoes and no greens. The Yorkshire pudding was fine. Nobody asked how the food was. When I asked to order dessert they brought me the bill. Although I'd told them my husband was lactose intolerant, the only thing he could have was sorbet. There were 2 other tables having Sunday lunch at the same time as us, both complained. The I left I asked if they'd like to know how our meal was, as nobody had asked us since we arrived. He said yes, so I told him. An apology but no offer to do anything about the bill. I complained again when we checked out and got a phone call today, 3 weeks later, offering to take 50% off the bill. So, if you'd like a poor meal, but 50% off three weeks later, go for it. If you'd like a good Sunday lunch, try elsewhere. We ate the next night at West Park Lounge which was a 10 minute walk away and much, much better.

Very, very poor Sunday lunch. We booked a table for 5 people today and I have to say it was such a disappointing meal. The starters and desserts were fine (nothing more) but the main….. 4 of us ordered the roast beef and got 2 tiny slices of the thinnest beef you can imagine. We did complain and they brought more out but why give us that in the first place? The cauliflower cheese was one tiny floret per person. The plate was filled by a lot of semi roast potatoes. I say semi roast as they looked ok from the outside but were hardly cooked on the inside. As well as this, one of our party saw a Guinness tap on the bar so ordered a pint of Guinness. We noticed it being poured from a can into the glass. When we queried this we were told they don’t have draught Guinness, just the tap so people thought they did! During our meal, there were only 2 other tables having Sunday lunch. Both complained about exactly the same things we did. Very poor and we shan’t return nor recommend to friends.

A group of us staying in the hotel booked an evening meal here on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is not large but is nicely appointed. They offer a 3 course menu for £19.95 which for a hotel is pretty good value. I chose prawn cocktail which was exactly as you would expect. The other choices being soup which was good or pate. For main I chose the roast beef, it was served with roast potatoes and vegetables and of course Yorkshire pudding. It was good without being exceptional. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and ice cream which I enjoyed. The drinks are quite expensive so be warned, however there is a pub round the corner on site where prices are a little more reasonable.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to rate the restaurant as poor due to a few reasons. The barman didn’t make eye contact didn’t say hello, and absolutely focused on doing his task before he would acknowledge me. A simple hi would suffice. The food was okay and a little overpriced. Waitress was very pleasant I was charged £3:30 for a pint of soda water, I travel extensively and this was the most I’ve ever been charged for essentially fizzy water! Also the main reason for the poor rating was the service charge when presented with the bill. There was absolutely no mention of a service charge. Surely this underhand practice has been abolished by now. I’ll always leave a tip if the serving is good. But I’m amazed that companies think it’s okay to just add this. FYI - it just annoys customers, especially when you don’t tell them.

Afternoon Tea at Weetwood Hall A Sunday mother and daughter treat wasn’t so special after all due to miscommunication and poor service and lack of decent china! Have been to afternoon teas in the past and service has been top notch! That being said I wonder if our standards were set at a high mark but nothing really scored a good mark here apart from the food. Lots of issues raised during our time there didn’t help the situation and when trying to explain to the team leader in charge It didn’t really get a good impression of leadership and taking charge of the situation. Issues including incorrect pricing when booking, deliberate mistake on the afternoon tea menu and deliberate Miscommunication about tea and coffee (when we finally received it) there was one member of staff which did excel in our opinion and that was Paul, he tried his best to rectify the situation to the best of his ability but again this wouldn’t have happened if there was good leadership in the first place! The food was excellent and we had a box to take some home in but we sure did leave with a sour taste in our mouths, one which would definitely sway us from not booking here again. This wasn’t a great afternoon tea experience all in all. Major improvements needed here. Will stick to the 1/5 as that’s all it deserves.

Have eaten here many times pre-covid and this was our first visit since. Ate here on two occasions over Easter. Menu is overpriced for what is a hotel restaurant and hardly fine dining. Overpriced steak at £32.50 with a very salty pepper sauce. The wine at £30.00 plus per bottle was just placed on the table and not even opened. On the second visit, two meals served, no cutlery, and when asked for vinegar to accompany fish and chips, the waiter could not find any! Even the chef could not fund any apparently though the manager knew where it was!? By the time i was able to find someone to get me cutlery, my meal was cold. The lounge menu is fine though again £32 for a very ordinary steak is ridiculous. To add insult to injury, a service charge which was not on my invoice but added to my room was also applied! The manager was indeed most apologetic and a refund was applied, the service charge refunded once I had received my final hotel invoice. Too many better restaurants close by to be booking there again. Appalling service from staff that would seem to have no waiting experience.

If you are hungry, please do not expect service. This restaurant gives a fantastic impression to look at. Also, if you are staying at Weetwood hall hotels, you do not have any other options. Luckily, if you get seated it would take at least 15 minimum for someone to bring you a menu. First round of service is ok then actually one would be looking desperately for a waiter to place your order. The food order would take its own sweet time. The seating is very well laid, the restaurant has a very trendy look, beautiful bar, good menu with a vegetarian selection, BUT service....pathetic. Ultimately when your food arrives, it is worth the wait. It is fresh, hot and tasty. The prices are a bit high and you do not have any choices nearby or within the hotel. The restaurant is on to the left side of the hotel reception and has facilities for disabled access and public restrooms. We had to hunt down the service staff to pay our bill to get out. I had visited this restaurant twice in 3 months and nothing has changed. Hope they pay some attention to improve their service to make the customers experience worth for their money.

Appalling food, my wife and I came here for a romantic dinner to celebrate our anniversary. What should have been a lovely evening was ruined by a deluge of horrific food. The Italian waitress was lovely however she forgot our order and was later discovered in the kitchen with other staff drinking wine. To my horror my wife was told, whilst I visited the bathroom, that our starters were late but was OK because the chicken wings take 5 minutes in the fryer. After the horrible starters the main event commenced. My wife ordered a carbonara . What arrived were super noodles deluged in grease. I ordered ribs with skinny fries. Not a hard dish. However, when it arrived I was presented with uncooked large chips and hazardous ribs. It was quite frankly a danger to human health!!!

The food was very tasty and well presented. The staff was amazing! We went with our 20 months old daughter and they were so welcoming and patient. The decoration is also very nice providing a lovely atmosphere. We will be back and we would highly recommend it.

Attractive comfortable restaurant but food disappointing. Dry tasteless lasagna, Greek salad was just cheese, octopus tapas was however good. Ok but would not return here

Every dish we had was excellent, including homemade deserts - often find teramisu is bought in at other places, but this was really good, and a good quality Irish coffee to follow. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Would recommend this place.

The food is absolutely delicious! It arrived hot. The seasoning on chips was so yummy! Ate every bit of very generous portion!

I have ordered from Max’s on numerous occasions over 15 years, it’s generally a late opening takeaway that serves average food to people who have had a few drinks. I say this WITH NO NEGATIVE opinions as we have all been there! The food is standard and the value is good in general plus very quick service! Overall the hygiene seems okay to me, no hairs or any concerns but just cheapish food (seen in the price - but no moaning here!). Will deffo return next drunken weekend!! :)
