Congee Queen in Scarborough

I have been dining at this location since it opened and management has maintained a high standard of dining hospitality through the years. Our visit this evening was no exception. Although very busy, the service was welcoming and prompt. We ordered spicey salty shrimp in shell, Cantonese chow mein and turnip bites. Within minutes of ordering, the food started arriving. The food was nicely presented, well prepared with quality ingredients and very tasty.... and no MSG hangover. The portions are very generous! The premises, and most importantly, the washrooms are clean and well kept. If you want a high quality family dining experience, I highly recommend this Congee Queen location. There is something on the menu for everyone. There is high value in all respects in dining here.

We've been going here for years, but this will definitely be our last. We saw a cockroach crawling on the wall near our booth. Then it started crawling to our table. The waitress killed it with a napkin. We jumped out of our seats and my 5 year old cried. They only gave us a 20% discount and gave my daughter a fortune cookie for her to stop crying. After the incident, I checked their dine safe pass and they got a conditional pass since July 2023. It's now August 2024 and no updated inspection. Stay away!

This place has always been a popular place, always full ! I was there for dinner the other day and had the worst experience! While eating dinner at one of their booths, 🪳 cockroaches🪳 decide to come join us, not one but 2 . The waitress took a napkin and killed one the other escaped. The restaurant manager was patronizing and unapologetic, he said “these things happen and we cant control these things” and carried on like this was a regular, normal thing that happens at this restaurant. He did not offer a refund, nothing but a patronizing, meek smile with “ I hope you understand and I hope you come back again “!! What the #^#*#! I do not recommend this unhygienic restaurant who unapologetically thinks “I need to understand that dining with cockroaches 🪳 is an okay experience !

Excellent as usual! Food came out in a fairly steady pace, people were friendly, confusion over one dish brought immediate attention! Will be going back!

Esta fue la primera vez que cenamos desde que ocurrió COVID y me impresionó el nivel de limpieza que vi. Solo usan una sola página laminada (GRANDE) para el menú porque vi al personal rociar y limpiarlo después de cada uso. Ya no tienen el libro grande con muchas páginas que serían imposibles de limpiar. Parece que todos los elementos del menú están ahí, pero solo faltan todas las fotos de la comida. Muy agradable que limpien el menú después de cada uso. Además, no ponen condimentos en la mesa (como botellas de salsa picante). Ahora te dan pequeñas porciones en pequeños platos. Las mesas están espaciadas y tienen un pasillo ancho para que las personas que entren a buscar comida para llevar. Cuando se fue una mesa cercana, me sorprendió ver que también desinfectaban TODAS LAS SILLAS. (Esperaba que desinfectaran la mesa, pero no sabía que también limpiarían las sillas. La comida era de la calidad normal que siempre esperamos cuando venimos. Fue consistente con sus estándares y por eso siempre regresamos. Sabemos lo que nos gusta y nunca nos decepcionamos. Lo único para los titulares de la tarjeta VIP es que aún ofrecen el 10% de descuento, pero no hay un postre VIP especial. En general, me impresionó su alto nivel de limpieza, así que volveré a cenar.

Won't recommend this place at all, the waiters "force" you to pay tips, even when you don't like their service. Its not like they deserve it or anything anything, every time you have to ask water from them. Also, tip if TIPing is mandatory it should be out of your own choice and not waiters stopping you to pay them to let you leave. Really bad customer service, won't recommend. Also be careful with any meat your order from here I found bad/cheap parts of meat being used and sometimes even plastic on them. And my extra "tip" to mangement, you know how you lose business? when your waiters harass customers to pay tips, no more giving my business to these people and others do avoid as well, I will be sure to post this on other social media's as well. You guys deserve the low business you have right now.

Tenía curiosidad por saber cómo sabría la comida porque está cerca de donde vivo. El restaurante parecía limpio y recibió una cálida bienvenida en la puerta. Pedí la sopa agridulce que era genial y un curry de ternera con arroz costó poco más de $ 20. 00 Desafortunadamente, el curry tenía un sabor suave y me gusta mi comida picante. We were here in August and were very surprised at how large the food portions are. It is reasonably priced for the heaping plates. Service was super quick. I have not been to a restaurant with food on the table in five minutes. Decor is a bit too dark.

Good food, clean and quick service.Great atmosphere and decorated nicely. Located close to No Frills and shops.Big plate of noodles.

Inspite of having a reservation and arriving 9 minutes later, we were told to wait for another 15 mins. When I queried with them, I was told to "relax" and brushed off for asking a question... They obviously do not care about customer service, they have too many people giving them money for shouting at their customers.. I refuse to be treated like this, but if you are happy with being brushed off and lectured.. Then work away..

Every time we visited Toronto, we went to Congee Queen on Sheppard Ave. Dishes tasted great, price is fair (actually quite a bargain for US standard), and they gave us so much food we had extra to take home. The sizes of their dishes are at least twice the sizes of US dishes. A definite Two Thumbs up!

Brought my parents here as they love Chinese food and ended up wishing we went to another restaurant. Although the food was good, the Service put a damper on the whole experience. Very very rude waitress who had a very sarcastic manner to her and clearly hated her job. I dare say that lack of customer service and general kindness and consideration is Often a huge issue in Chinese restaurants.

Went to Congee queen twice in the last two weeks. Always busy but service is always fast. Good food too. Will definitely go back to this restaurant. highly recommended.

Vacationing in Toronto for the Christmas holidays, my family after Boxing Day shopping went to have a quick meal at congee queen in Shepherd. We entered and were assigned a table. A minute later would have spelled long wait as customers quickly arrived and in no time, waiting was expected. We ordered chow mien, fires shrimp dumpling, salted peppered pork chops, sweet and sour port, yang chow fried rice, fried squid tentacles, and a wanton soup. Total bull $145 and it included takeaways. The wait staff were helpful and gave the orders quickly. The water was lemon infused! Good! The orders were satisfying to me. Although I have had more exceptional Chinese meals in Manila and Hongkong. But Congee Queen in Sheperd is a landmark and it has made locals fall in love with its menu. So it is filling a need and tummies too! I give it a 4 spoons. Will it be worth a second visit?. Surely.! This Queen is majestic and always welcomes its loyal patrons.

Great place to have lunch or dinner. Very fast service and good food. Price is good. Waiters are very attentive to our needs. Great location and ample parking.

We had the clam congee and beef ho fun for dinner and it was very tasty. For a small bowl there was 9 large clams along with lots of veggies and salted eggs. For a small bowl it was not small, the portion was very generous. The beef ho fun was also delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for the price and portion. The only thing was a bit noisy so hard to carry a conversation.

Food is not so bad but hygiene is poor. The place is located just near by the exit of a Wallmart supermarket. Especially in the evening it is criwded and extremely noisy. Peking duck is NOT available in its classical form. Most of the peteonnel don’t soeak English propetly so make sure that they understood well what you meant a d what you ordered.

Como el nombre implica, el porridges congees (en este restaurante) son geniales, uno de los mejores que he probado. Pero, no sólo el, los otros platos congees probamos también eran deliciosos. I ordered some take-away yesterday. This restaurant serves all kinds of HK Chinese food. The best thing about this is the portion and it's huge. They have many branches. I will visit them again soon for sure.

They have the best of congee in Scarborough. We also ordered for roasted pork and it was great, so crispy. Definitely going back there.

Unlike the other location north of the city, this Congee Queen has quite a lot of big tables to accommodate large groups. As with other Congee Queens, they served big portions with reasonable price. If you ordered fried rice or noodles, it came like a mountain.

Nos decidimos a romper la tradición de navidad e ir a un restaurante chino este año, y no nos decepcionó.

Visitamos aquí con 4 niños menores de 8, y pasamos un tiempo maravilloso. Probamos todo tipo de diferentes alimentos y el personal fue muy paciente con nosotros ordenar y hacer sugerencias. La comida era muy razonable y por lo tanto pudimos probar varios platos. Sin duda merece la pena una visita para una divertida excursión con los niños.

It taste so much similar like what I had in my country(asia). Love the roast pork and fried rice! Will return for second visit!

Quality of Roast duck and roast pork combo not stable, cut and portion every time is different, sometimes more bones not much meat. The branch at Steeles is a much better choice.

Good variety of lunch menu. Large portions. Different kinds of congee and noodles, and snacks. BBq pork and BBq ducks are good.

Fuimos allí para desayunar y abrieron a las 10 de la mañana. La comida era en buena parte y sabroso. Buena relación calidad-precio. El menú tiene una buena variedad de comida y podían decidir qué comer. Todo parece tan bueno.

Las tartas de nabo chili eran deliciosos. Mejor versión del plato que he tenido. Sopa de cangrejo maw pescado también era muy sabrosa. Lo que vienen aquí por las pato asado y cerdo asado. Ellos están hechos a la perfección. Regrese a este restaurante por la calidad de la comida y los precios. Muy razonables y el ambiente es agradable. 5 estrellas todo el camino.

Fui a este restaurante com minha família e gostamos muito. No cardápio há uma variedade enorme de pratos de diferentes partes da Ásia, desde comida chinesa à tailandesa. Preços acessíveis e porções grandes. Pedimos três pratos, um para cada uma de nós. Tudo delicioso, mas tivemos que pedir que embalassem o que sobrou por conta das porções enormes. Recomendo!

May 2017Went here with friends. Ordered crab meat with corn thick soup, house seafood & mixed veggie fried vermicelli, spice pepper salt squid, beef with mushroom on sizzling hot plate, and chow mein. Of all the food, i enjoyed the crab and corn soup the most. There was a generous amount of crab meat, corn was cooked well and soup was served hot. Had to wait for 20minutes to be seated.Washroom was not so clean, but not so dirty either.

We always allow the Cantonese noodle dish to speak for the restaurant - they do a very tasty dish !! Kids love the salt'n pepper squid, and the shrimp rice noodle rolls ... and the congee is always great! Good value for money - great service !! They remember the repeat customers LOL

I've ate at Congee Queen many times and our family returns in large part for the convenience of free parking. It's located at Agincourt Mall where's you'll find the Walmart so you'll no trouble finding a place to park.I've only been for lunch and it's very busy.Food is good. The corn soup, which the kids love, was very yellow as if food colouring was added.Service was average, our server disappeared a few times.We didn't order for the lunch menu, rather a la carte, and the food came out in good time. Not overly greasy and flavour was good. FYI - the General Tao was heavy with spice, kids didn't touch it.

We are Chinese and have been to the Congee Queen Scarborough location a few times, for both lunch and dinner. The menu is quite complete, with congee, meat, seafood, rice, noodle and soup dishes (not dim sum) ... despite its name, the restaurant is much more than congee.The food is always quick, hot and tasty. The decor is clean, modern and spacious, with a steady clientele of Asian customers. Prices are reasonable and we are really full when we finish.Congee Queen is a Cinese restaurant chain across Toronto. We have tried other locations and the food is consistent across, but we like the Scarborough location best for service and ambience.

Super bowl congee is enough for 10 if ordering other food. Enjoyed the duck as well as the turnip cakes. The fried rice is just ok. The sizzling hot plates are good too. Was pleasantly surprised by the banana dessert although some in our group couldn't get past the texture of warm, cooked banana.

My wife’s sister who is a local in Toronto brought us here. They frequently go here. The food was very good and tasty. Their congee was very good. Service was very fast but they missed one of our orders. We went here early evening and we were seated quickly—no waiting. But we noticed that a crowd formed at the entrance while we were eating. Better come here early or make a reservation. Otherwise be prepared to wait for a while.

Authentic Chinese food available in Scarborough at a great price. Lots of dishes available that will please everybody. I'm always able to please my Chinese food craving with much better fare than is available at the bigger Chinese fast-food chains at a much higher price. Definitely worth a visit.

It's not in England like the listing says haha! We ordered from here last night. It was disappointing.- $54 we got fried rice, which was tasteless-Cantonese chow mien, the noodles were so crispy which I wasn't used to or expected-the duck, (which was raved about on Yelp). It was good, but had more bones than meat. -the chow mein came with this sauce. It was more like a soup with mixed vegetables, seafood & meat. I didn't order this, so we were confused as to what was in it. Thanks to the Internet we figured out it was octopus. -sweet & sour chicken was alright. -spring rolls came with 3. I thought that was a weird number and they honestly weren't that good. I was so sad about the meal.I wouldn't order from them again, but I'd maybe try going into the restaurant. Maybe if there's pictures of the food on the menu I'd have better luck. Or maybe staff could help?

We were at that restaurant on Monday,Febraury 16 ,2015 for lunch to celebrate family day. So disappointed with the food we ordered. First we had crispy tiger shrimp & mango salad tossed w/ custard sauce we found metal on it.We called the waiter & told him, he just took it from our bill because we don't like a replacement. then on house superbowl congee we found hair not once but TWICE!! I called the waiter again and showed her the hair , again she just removed it from our bill. I lost my appetite. This is the first time that I experience this from any restaurants in Toronto.

If they are called Congee Queen, they really don't live up to their name. The congee was absolutely tasteless, I don't know how it could be so bad unless the ingredients were not fresh, then of course no flavour would sip into the congee.The turnip cake was so so as they have to charge $2 more for the XO sauce, it's not worth it. The plain rice roll was hard and the sesame sauce was very diluted.Will never go back to this place.

First off, this restaurant is located in Scarborough, ON, Canada not England. We have eaten here on several occasions, both lunches and dinners. We have never been disappointed on any occasion. In fact, on each occasion, there were line ups but people don't seem to mind waiting, that is how good the food is! Service is fast as there are plenty of wait staff who speak both Chinese and English. We also believe the kitchen staff is well maintained as orders come fast.
