Comptoir Libanais in Oxford

A really nice lunch meal, friendly service, nice atmosphere. You can order via app or through a server. I'd advise through a. Server as the app automatically adds 12.5% service and it's hard to see how to avoid that - on top of that, it also asks if you want to tip (not sure what the difference is?). Otherwise great food in the center of Oxford.

Food was wonderful, I went for some Hallumi and Dates and they did not disappoint! Daniel was very helpful and got our varied orders sorted.

Food really nice, service polite, however, we had a long wait food and starters and main course came out at the same time, so main course sent back and sat under heat lights until ready for main course. Would go again for food.

Food was great though the portions were a bit on the smaller side for me. The service was quite slow and we had people finishing their mains before starters were there for other people. It was a Friday night at peak time but other than that it was good.

Had dinner here spontaneously whilst in Oxford. Walked in the guy serving at the front desk walked off as we walked up, without acknowledging , eye contact or greeting us (first impression) which I thought rude. He returned only a few minutes later, and showed us to a table. The place is big and spacious get them in, get them out kind of restaurant. Menu came quite quickly, waiter was friendly and did his job. The mezze platter I ordered was 'OK' but not brilliant value for money at £13.95 basically it was a plate of hommus with a flatbread. The pickles were bitter (not to my taste) falafel was overcooked (borderline burnt) and dry, small cheese pancake was ok but tasteless, they gave you a spoonful of chopped up parsley and mint (not exactly tne 'quinoa tabbouleh' listed on the menu). Overall it was pretty bland and expensive for what it was. A bit of fresh salad would not have gone amiss (and not expensive to add to the dish) pickled turnip and sour/bitter chillis have a lot of room for improvement. He ordered the Beiruty similar look to mine really, pile of hummus with chillis, falafal flatbread, similar feedback to me. Bland, unexciting. I'm sure students love it because compared to other restaurant choices it is relatively cheap to eat there and does the job. My ABSOLUTE pet hate is that they AUTOMATICALLY added a service charge of 12.5%!!!! to the bill WITHOUT ASKING! WHY? If you want to increase the price of your restaurant bill, (and your turnover!) then be upfront and transparent about it and increase the prices on the menu. A tip is descetionary and the customers perogative. Good service is the MINIMUM expectation, the standard. If you work as a service provider it is your job to be friendly, polite and do what you are being paid to do. If the customer considers your service, attitude or food exceptional and exceeds expectations, then by all means give them a tip. To include a tip without asking is unappreciated, unwelcome and will gain your restaurant negative feedback, and when the food is 'average' at best, it is highly offensive.

The food was mostly tastless. We tried four different dishes and they were all quite disapponting. With Middle Eastern food you really need good ingredients, especially vegetables. We would not recommend this place. The service was okay, but not much they can do when the food is so poor.

The mezze platter for 2 was tasteless. It had hardly any pomegranate, the 2 mini falafels were stone dry, the 2 small cheese pancakes were undercooked (the pastry was anemic as though it had not been cooked), the bread was undercooked (very spongy in texture), there was no salad at all but way too much chopped up parsley and mint instead of the supposed 'quinoa tabbouleh' listed on the menu. The side dish of halloumi with figs was decent and relatively tasty but rather tiny a portion for very close to 9 pounds. And to top it all up the service charge of 12.5% was extortionate. The attached picture from their website is deceptive as, what was served was nothing like in the picture, due to items being undercooked and a few things missing.

Once a new thing on the High Street, this restaurant chain is now part of the scenery. Service friendly but food slow. Atmosphere so so and packed so tightly I could hear the neighbouring tables conversation more easily. Desperate need for sound deadening in this particular venue.

Came here with my uncle to introduce him to Arab food. He loved it, very flavourful food, great customer service. Only thing I could potentially note is pricing per portion but that’s to be expected considering cost of imports currently.

Definitely try the food and refreshing drinks here, The bar tender Shreyas made great drinks for me and my friends. The Pan roasted Sea bass is great dish.

I come here every time I come to Oxford. I usually order this same dish. This time I had the impression that it came in less quantity. It is a dish that can be served individually or for two people. Compared to other times, I thought they increased the price and reduced the meal.

Lovely bright and colourful Lebanese restaurant with excellent food and service.

Terrible food - not Worthing these prices at all! I can understand we went 21:00 and the kitchen was closing 21:30 but we ordered as fast as we could and still the food was really really bad. One of the main plates was wrong, we ordered lamb cubes and they sent kibbeh and on the top one pita zataar was actually one small greek pita, not Lebanese. This only costs £4.5 -one pita! The kofta were all too dry- I guess whatever was left , the chicken cubes also dry and the rice was cold and sticking together as it was since morning . The spinach burek (£15) was also a disappointment as it had no decent filling and it was also not freshly baked. Also the restaurant is very pricey with not good quality. Babaganuj was really good though. The girl who served us she was very polite smiley and kind, offered to change our plates.

Always visit here when in Oxford due to its different tastes and location. Ordered a fantastic meal as did my partner and we both enjoyed although it was pretty empty with only 3 tables taken on a Friday evening. One staff member was layed out on his phone with his shoes on the seats which was not nice to see but probably on his break. Food tasted great and was served on good time. Will visit again just need to up the service and keep feet off the chairs. Seemed our server was unsure when to come over to take our order etc Recommended

Restaurant looked beautiful, upon sitting down at a table we then received no service at all, having waited half an hour to even order a drink we realised it was quicker to order through the barcode thing, the table next to us had two courses before we had even had our drinks! Found it odd that the restaurant wasn’t super busy but there were two waitresses just hanging around the entrance, bearing in mind we were in direct line of the entrance and not once did they come over. Drinks were nice, food came and was nice, bread was very dry almost tasted stale so all the sauces and dips made up for it that were delicious. Ordered a Shish kebab wrap and only had one piece of meat which I felt for the price should have had two really. The whipped feta was beautiful- preferred this side dish over the main meal! Overall the food was ok, however no service at all, no one came to Check if our food was ok and for a total of £60 and no service I wouldn’t come back.

Amazing flavours, excellent service and a wonderful establishment. Now checking to see when I can visit again!!

Excellent food!! The dishes are generous and delicious, we didn't regret a single bite. The places are large and the decor is chosen with care, you feel transported to another part of England! I highly recommend.

Visited for a birthday dinner with 8 friends. Fast efficient service with friendly staff,great sized portions of food (I had the mixed grill which was big and I was hungry! ) and yummy cocktails. Dessert was baklava and generous scoops of ice cream. The team acknowledged my birthday generously. Unlike some places in Oxford you can have a conversation here and the music isn’t too loud, really pleasant visit. Thanks

Sadly shrinkage has clearly hit comptoir. There rap’s were amazing before and always a little pricey but it was worth it for sure but now it’s £13 for an ‘open rap’ which takes up the whole plate and you get less food. Mine was meant to have olives in and it didn’t. I don’t feel like it was good deal at all. Spent £40 with half a pint being £4 of that! And fixed tip of £4.50… slow service this time we ordered on the QR code and had to ask for our drinks after 20 mins, not sure they have the infrastructure to deal with it, so best order with the waiter. This place use to be our little treat when we take our son to the JR but I think we will look for somewhere else now.

The food was very tasty and the service was nice and competent. We have eaten Lebanese cuisine several times and it was delicious every time. This time it was similar. Everything was served quickly and with a smile. A place worth recommending!

Always a great place to eat and this time was no exception. Wonderful food and lovely friendly staff. The Mezze sharing Platter is always a win with so many fantastic flavours. The lamb kofta roll was also excellent with the spicy potatoes given the dish a bit of heat. The clean flavours in both dishes are why we love Lebanese food. Always worth a visit if you are at Westgate and want something bursting with flavour.

Decided to eat here yesterday as we have done many times in the past but the service is becoming slower every visit.... Our waitress had to be reminded twice for a simple Jug of water and we had to ask for our mains to be served as we were left sitting with dirty plates on our table for over half an hour. The food is always delicious but the attention to detail for service makes the experience painful!

Food wasn’t good, tagine was very sour and bland, the cube chips where just soaked into some sauce and the portions where generally small.

Our visit was late afternoon so understand staffing levels might be low. However, service was slow and not very welcoming. Almost felt we were a nuisance. The meze dishes we had to start with were fab but the main courses were a little disappointing. My chicken was dry and overcooked. I appreciate chicken has to be well cooked - but. Another of the mains had some very dodgy rice, which was speedily replaced with chips but it took the edge off the occasion. We didn’t stay for desserts but did take away some baklava, which were delicious

Middle Eastern food attracts us wherever we go and this is the place we chanced upon in Oxford. We had to wait some time to be seated and we looked through the menu to order Baba Ghanuj, Lamb Kofta Tagine and Lebanese Wings. While we admire the vibrancy of the place where every famed person's photo has a Lebanese hat on them, the order comes through with everything served at the same time. Baba Ghanuj was quite smoky but the flavours didn't come through well. The chicken wings were tender and we loved the spice rub on it. The Lamb Kofta Tagine served with vermicelli rice and the kofta was a bit on the dry side and not juicy as expected. The flatbreads were warm to accompany the other dishes. Overall, the service was a little slow probably cause it was a busy afternoon and some dishes didn't meet the expectations.

I ate here the other day and it was OK but there were some puzzling things about it. All the food tasted pretty good but it was mostly cold because it was all served on cold plates. The weirdest thing was the tagine. The cous cous was served in a cold tagine dish and the stew was served in a bowl. Now I know they're not going to cook the tagine in individual dishes (although why they couldn't I don't know) but surely it would make more sense to serve the tagine in a warmed tagine dish and the cous cous in the bowl?! I don't think I'd eat here again, there is a more authentic Lebanese restaurant in Oxford if you look for it.

Disappointing. Disappointing food, disappointing service. Overpriced and tasteless. We waited ages for grumpy service. There were 6 of us, 4 were brought drinks, the other 2 forgotten. The food is meh: there's no real cooking involved here, no menu design, no love of the food or its origin. The worst of Lebanese food, but then what did I expect from a chain with some nice baskets? Skip it. Go to Za'atar Bake or Le Kesh on the Cowley Road.

We loved the decor of this restaurant. When we arrived for lunch as walk-ins, we received a friendly welcome, and we were taken to a table and given menus. We both ordered halloumi open wrap platters and roomana lemonade. Food and drinks were delicious. Service was friendly and efficient. Facilities were clean.

Le comptoir libanais, a restaurant that calls itself Lebanese but serves typical Maghrebian food such as couscous and tadjine. The Lebanese gastronomy is wide and delicious and recognized worldwide, it is not necessary to appropriate the dishes of other countries, it is very petty. There are people who don't know these dishes and will think it's Lebanese. The same goes for the decoration, which is pretty but not Lebanese. The chicken wrap was nice though but the servers were grumpy and not welcoming at all. They wanted to take the plates that weren't finished yet.

Their breakfast is amazing - first time I've ordered and very tasty. Their service was strange - restaurant was almost empty in morning and they brought over wrong items at first (meant for another table) and after we ordered, they still got it wrong! Nevertheless, great food overall.

The falafel was like rocks, and the portions (particularly the Beiruti) was quite small. I also walked past the kitchen on the way back from the toilet and the kitchen floor was completely covered in water?! I don't think I would come back.

This was an early evening meal with a friend. The welcome was lukewarm and we were waved in the direction of a table. We both ordered a spinach and ricotta dish which was very good and the juices we ordered were good too. We had ordered olives as a starter but they arrived with the main course - which included olives. We didn't mind having more olives but before the main food arrived would have been good. Dessert was a middle eastern take on sticky toffee pudding and was v good. Mint tea after was fine too. The service and general attitude of the staff is okay at best and offhand generally. Would want to give four stars but can't because of the service.

The last two visits for lunch have been desperately disappointing. On other occasions the portions were very small, the spinach and feta filo pastry was sent back on both occasions for being cold. The price charged is way higher than what the food is worth. Please stop adding 12.5% gratuity on the bill. I now deduct the gratuity when the service is poor. The staff generally don't smile and look bored.

We ordered the cheese sambousek, mixed grill and warm flatbread. All the food arrived cold. The portion sizes are very small. The waiter seemed indifferent.

Food was average but have had much better Lebanese food; however, all the waiters were very unfriendly - never smiling - throwing the menus on the table and never accessible when needing something like water etc.

Went for lunch last Sunday. The food was ok, nothing special. The cold starter platter for one was disappointing and overpriced for 3 dips and one falafel. Main course was also, just ok ..... What really annoys me the most, is that the gratuity (12.5%) was included in the bill. The tip should be discretionary and not imposed on the customer. I didn't feel that the quality of the food and service deserved the 12.5%, and I think it is very wrong to be added on, regardless. I'm generous with my gratuity when appropriate. When back in Oxford will give it a miss, shame, as middle eastern cuisine is my favourite....

The food and service at this branch of Comptoir Libanais has been declining regularly since it first opened. It used to feel like a special experience at a reasonable price. Now it always feels like you have to fight to be served. The order is never correct and when you get your food it is usually dry, with not that much sauce or much presentation and it is expensive for what you get. There are much better options in Oxford and the Westgate for a meal.

Visited with friends, who had been before, for lunch. Very warm welcome and attentive staff. Great food choices; delicious dining and very reasonably priced. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Would be very happy to return as there is plenty of choice for a number of visits.

I've been to the restaurant a couple of times now and found that my first meal was the best. Quality seems to vary day by day and even the lentil soup that I raved about after my first visit wasn't grabbing me again. So I guess it is best to say that this is a place where sometimes you can get a great meal and other times it is just a place to eat.

Visited this restaurant and was appalled, the customer service was disappointing. The staff were lacking friendliness and basic manners. Additionally, I found a hair in my food and had informed the waitress who had no idea how to handle the situation. I wasn't even offered...

Absolutely delicious food, generous portions and attentive service, without being intrusive. Despite being a chain it felt individual and cared for. Lighting was rather bright but otherwise perfect.

We had a lovely meal here. The mezza was delicious. We didn’t book, but had a lovely spot. While the atmosphere wasn’t quite like the souqs of the middle east. The food tasted quite authentic and a lovely light meal for an evening.
