the double room rate was 160 £. It had a four-poster bed occupying most of a smallish room - like an elephant in the room, rather - creaking during the night with the smallest movement. Furthermore, the window was sealed, and the air-conditioning system old and malfunctioning...so, no change of getting any fresh air from the window and stuck there nghtlong with a noisy air-conditioning system. Not a great experience, I'd say, especially for the money paid. Having said so, the common spaces were indeed very cosy and charming, with old paintings and prints on the walls and the breakfast (included) was reasonably good. Free parking lot in the back.

Dirty room. Dust on windowsill. Hairs in the bed. Damp smell. Door skirting cracked and falling of. Not very happy at all. Do not recommend

Booked 4 adult afternoon teas plus one 9 year old. Food was smashing . They supplied the 9 year old with her own tea which she enjoyed immensely . They never charged for her tea and then bought out an easter egg for her. If we are ever in Colchester again we will book it again.

Afternoon tea! Can't speak about the bedrooms but the atmosphere is warm and staff very welcoming. Shown to the window table which was excellent for people watching! Daniel especially served us very well and was most charming. Would recommend and hope to return.
