Rice was okay, but How can you serve rice with boiled chicken not even fried. It was just ridiculous. The service was very awful, never going back. Told me I had to pay additional £1 to dine in which was ridiculous. Disgraceful

I used to be a regular here before I moved away. I was in the area visiting family, so thought I would pick some food up to take home as we always really enjoyed it. I did not recognise the woman that served me today, but she was a little unfriendly at best. She charged me £12 for a dish that on the menu was £10. I tried to politely query this, and she said that's not our prices. I pointed out its from the menu. She refused to engage and wouldn't make eye contact and moved on to the next customer. If it was the case that the paper menu prices were out of date, she could have just said that. It came across unwelcoming. on a positive note the food still tastes great, but the puff puffs were half the size they used to be.

Shocking. Ordered assorted meat but probably received the leftovers before they closed today. Meat wasn’t meat as it was chewy hard skin of animals that you couldn’t even tell what it was. Taste of the rice was pretty bland but spicey. I’ve ate better, wouldn’t order again. Well overpriced for the quality.

It's just a very good takeaway. Better than a kebab by eons. Super tasty ringdingading homecooked food! !!!!!!!!!

If I can give 0 star I would. The meat was barely cooked chewy and had uncooked (inedible bits) and just when I thought I'll use only the soup (and removed the meat). I found a large piece of PLASTIC!!!! Terrible!!!!

Do yourself a favor and eat here. The food is interesting and different, but over all, incredibly good. I wish I lived closer to Colchester so I could come more often. The atmosphere is great and the staff are very welcoming and efficient, they make you feel like home. The prices were very, very affordable. Can't possibly recommend this place more, what are you waiting for?

Took my mum here for her birthday dinner. Food was excellent, service was excellent, we will definitely be returning here a lot more.

The jollof rice and grilled fish was extremely tasty, freshly cooked, well seasoned, and generous in portion. Great presentation! I cannot wait to taste more of their offerings, particularly their soups. The customer service was friendly and responsive. Honestly, the best jollof rice I've tasted outside Nigeria! If you are visiting Colchester or the surrounding areas, make sure you stop by Chez Afrique! There's also an African Caribbean grocery next door with a multitude of options. Highly recommend!

This is our first trip to Colchester, so intrigued to check this place out. The food was delicious, freshly prepared and quickly cooked with friendly service.

Ordered Ofada stew today and the beef in it test spoilt. I am very disappointed.

We have ordered food from chez afrique three times. Firstly for our meet&greet event, secondly for our Christmas dinner and for our summer social . The portion sizes were really good each time and everyone really enjoyed the food - the Jollof rice especially! The price is decent as well and you get really good value for money.

Came with a friend after a nice day out wanting to try something different. Unfortunately it wasn't great. The waitress seemed so uninterested and bored, very poor communication and just seemed to want to be elsewhere, the menu was very confusingly layed out and made little to no sense,l and the takeaway computer was singing at max volume constantly so it was very difficult to have a peaceful meal. still the puff puffs where good, though I think I'll be going elsewhere next time

Customer service is pretty basic as is the food. The jolloff rice and meat tasted okay. But has a strange smell to it. The puff puff was soaked in oil. It was quite long winded to place an order via Uber eats. So eventually we called up to order. They were out of most items and eventually we just called and placed the order for collection. I wouldn’t order from them in the future. The food was really not that great. I’m giving 2 stars mainly due to Large portions.

Had the worst experience with this restaurant. I placed an order that didn’t come for basically 3 hours because “a driver already took the food” I had to call Deliveroo for them to call the restaurant to make a new order since I hadn’t received any. I tried calling the restaurant back but it seemed they’d blocked my number as the call kept disconnecting. When I finally received my order, it was missing 3 items which were the ones I was looking forward to the most. Not giving them 1 star because the bits of the order I did receive was nice. But considering I had to wait for hours for this order, the very least the restaurant could have done was GIVE ME MY COMPLETE ORDER

First rate food - couldn't have been better!

Don't bother ordering on online, they always decline the order. Food always salty and tastless. Hygien is questionable. My partner used to buy from them as they were the only African restaurant close by. If there are other choices I would advise all to avoid this place. Better African food out there. One star is even too good for this place.

Seriously good food, warm service, and during my stay they got me in and out (seated) within 20 minutes. Next time you're thinking of getting a takeaway, do yourself a favour and opt for this gem instead of one of the big chains.

Good, only takeaway at the moment

Best service and food we have had in a long time. We are new to Colchester, it was my birthday and my husband decided to treat me to £64 worth of food, excellent idea. Excellent menu and beautifully cooked, and very large portions. We are Going to make this a regular place to eat.Thank you excellent Chef and excellent staff for making us feel so welcome and amazing food and service (and making my birthday).

I highly recommend this place for its great tasting food and service. Very friendly and polite. They even gave us free Puff Puff on our way out. All in all, this place is better than most Nigerian restaurants in London. Go get you some.

It's a place to go when looking for African food items. They are lovely people who takes customer satisfaction as a priority.

Ordered takeaway. Egusi.ogbono.ayamase. peppered turkey and peppered beef and buns. All very very tasty. I was a bit apprehensive as it was the first time ordering west African food outside of London, however I must say I was not disappointed. Delicious.

True Afrocan restaurant. Their fried rice pack for 6pounds comes with plantain and 3 pieces of chicken. The rice is really good....better than some restaurants in Afica.

Lovely little taste of Africa. After Google recommended this to me I put it on my 'want to go' list and today was the day! Popped in for lunch, It was quiet when we entered and we were greeted by a lovely young lady at the counter. We sat down and looked over the menus but I ultimately asked for a recommendation and I wasn't disappointed. I had the jollof rice with mixed meats (chicken and beef), lovely. My buddy had the Nigerian red stew with white rice and plantain which he really enjoyed too. It's decorated with colourful pictures and wooden planks of dark woods. Maybe a little highly priced but it's a good size portion and great food so I'd says it's worth it. Ill definitely be back for more, and soon. They seem to be on just eat and deliveroo too but I'd suggest popping in if you can.

I have always gone to this restaurant because the food is %100 authentic with the original ingredients. The staff are so polite and welcoming I have never even thought of looking elsewhere for my meal. What makes it even better is the supermarket next door that have some items in stock that are impossible to find anywhere but in Africa.

The food taste great with a variety of soups to choose from. The portions are good as well. O could never finished my food. The jollot rice is tasty also, I had a great time there with friends. A truly African experience

Jollof ain't the best. Got some funky smelling rice and poor customer service. Food takes for ever to be ready even when you order in advance.

Alright quality, not all food from the menus are available

The food is amazing and fresh. And in the middle of Colchester.

Food is alright but the delivery came an hour and half after I ordered! And I called to ask where the food was and the person who answered did not apologise for being late also when she read out my order she missed out a dish and did not explain why it was missing until I asked her. She then replied saying they had run out and she wanted to call me to say but they did not! That means if I did not call and ask I would not have known & would have received my order over an hour and half late with some missing. No apologises from the delivery driver either.

I like African food, and would try this place again: you certainly get the typical African warm welcome when you walk in. That being said, I tried the Jollof Rice, Plantain, and Assorted Meat: medium heat. The rice was nice and spicy, the plantain was sweet, but I did find the meat a little tough - and the big chunks of meat were a challenge in a takeaway, they could have been cut up smaller to make them easier to eat. Overall though, this was a nice change to the usual takeaway restaurant food, at a reasonable price, and I will be going there again to see how the other dishes perform.
