We stopped for a hot drink whilst in the area on business and the assortment of delicious looking cakes and savoury items on show looked amazing. We restrained ourselves and had an almond hot chocolate and a banana nut latte and both were really tasty. Staff were really friendly and it a warm and inviting place to go. Would go again if in the area.

Called here for breakfast as we had been here for lunch on a previous visit. The chef was very understanding of my food intolerances and engaged in conversation about it. The food was cooked to perfection, well presented and tasty. All the staff were friendly and attentive. We will certainly come again when we are next on a visit to see family.

After shopping in Sunderland I was walking up Blandford Street and on the spur of the moment decided to call in here. I haven't been in for a while but last time I got a lovely cappuccino and cake and decided to break the diet I've been on for a week and call in. I thought there was a coffee and cake special on after 2.30pm and this was 2.55pm. When I enquired if the cake and coffee special was on I was informed there was but it didn't start until 3pm. I replied it didn't matter and another member of Staff told me I was welcome to take a seat and wait! I think it's really good that despite there only being 3 other people in the cafe they stuck to their guns and turned away a Customer. Obviously this is a business doing so well they can turn away trade. Good for them and it saved me money and calories so a win win situation. Clearly I won't be returning to the Cafe but it's nice to see Staff with principles and I wish the cafe all the best. My rating is low because I didn't get to sample anything. However I can confirm that everything I've had in the past has been very nice.

This place is a gem in plain sight, I usually go there for breakfast. The scrambled eggs on toast and the daily quiche are executed with excellence, the cake and sweet selection is just amazing. More importantly the staff and the place make you feel like at home.

Called in on a Wednesday morning just in time to order from the Breakfast menu. Two of us had scrambled egg on toast and the other two had a full English Breakfast. The meals also included tea or coffee. The food was freshly made, and very tasty. The staff were friendly and obliging. You order and pay for your food at the counter, where you can check out all the lovely cakes. This is a really nice cafe, which offers good food at a reasonable price.

I visited this Cafe for a breakfast on a gloomy November morning. You pick your table then go to the counter to order and it is delivered to your table. . The surroundings are very comfortable and pleasant and prices are very good. I ordered a full english breakfast and at £5.30 including a free filter coffee or tea it is really good value. You can also upgrade for around 65p and choose from a variety of coffees such as latte etc. I opted for the plain filter and it came with 2 little pots of cream and was piping hot and one of the best coffees I've had in a while. . After a short wait my breakfast arrived and I got beans, mushrooms, 2 hash browns, beans, tomato, bacon, 2 sausages and toast. It was well cooked and fresh. Other reviews mention waiting times but it's probably because everything seems to be cooked from fresh . There was some great 50s music on in the background and the music made you feel like you were in a 50s diner. The ambience is good and service was quick. . I've also been here in the afternoon and they do various deals such as coffee and cake. They have a good choice of menu and the prices are competitive I'll certainly be returning

I had the vegetable soup which was extremely tasty too. Staff were very friendly & helpful and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town to try one of the many gorgeous looking cakes with the delicious choice of coffees. I visited yesterday with my 7.5 year old granddaughter, I ordered a child's meal for her and drinks for us both. Her meal arrived quite quickly, no particular issues with the food, let's face it it's not difficult to get chicken nuggets chips and beans wrong. It arrived on a smallish melamine Peppa pig plate usually used by toddlers, the food was extremely hot, my granddaughter couldn't cut the food up to cool it as it was falling off the small plate on to the table. I asked the waitress if she could give me a normal plate to transfer the food cut and cool it, to be told she couldn't as it was against company policy, I was shocked. I asked to speak to the manager/owner, a woman arrived to confirm "it wasn't allowed as adults order a child's meal and ask for a plate which means she is losing profit" I couldn't believe this madness. I explained the food was crammed on to this plate and ended up on the table trying to cut it up which was far from hygienic...she spent some time searching for a plate which was no bigger just a different shape. 1. this was in fact a health and safety issue, the food was too hot for a child to eat and it ended up on the table trying to cut it to cool it..not hygienic..you are clearly making a profit so stop being greedy and putting your profit margins before the welfare of children 2. (Observation) a majority of your customers seemed to be elderly..maybe a small child size meal is as much as they can eat but you want them to buy a full size meal and waste what they can't eat..hardly environmentally friendly and yet again geared towards your profit margins not the welfare of your customers 3. My granddaughter was the only child in the establishment at the time, she left a majority of the meal as she felt unwelcome 4. may I suggest you review your policy and put your customers first above your profit margins especially where the health and safety of a child is concerned or you may find you are facing closure as customers vote with their feet and don't come back to your establishment...I certainly won't be back, (I would not have given and star rating but I could not proceed without filling this field)

Myself, partner and toddler went here today as we were passing and it was quite busy so we thought the food must be good. Looking at the menu I did think the food was overpriced (£4:50 for a jacket potatoe). Anyway that’s what I ordered and my partner got chilli and my little girl got curry. Mine and my little girls came out first. Hers was lovely might I add, but mine...I could tell it was rotten when it was first put down in front of me. I never normally complain but it was inedible. No one came to ask if the meals were alright as usual places do and I found this strange. My partner suggested I go to the counter and complain but they were busy. I managed to speak to a girl who was serving as she past and I explained that the jacket wasn’t nice at all (it was almost as mushy as jelly) she just asked well what’s wrong and took it away. A few minutes later another lady cane and explained that they were freshly made this morning and she suggested that it had been partially ate (sorry but it wasn’t that’s just how mushy it was!) No apology from the establishment, no other meal offered and no partial refund as my partner had asked. We won’t be going back.

Visited this cafe for a coffee and sandwich following a trip to Sunderland Empire to buy theatre tickets. We were very impressed with the coffee, bacon sandwich and service but on returning home I discovered I had left the theatre tickets on the table in cafe. I phoned the cafe but unfortunately the tickets had not been handed in, I was on the phone to the Empire when a text came through from Mick explaining that he had gone through the rubbish and found my tickets, absolutely above and beyond.

What a shame. I have been thinking about Trying this place for months now and had high expectations after reading reviews. Unfortunately I was disappointed after realising the hopes I had of finding a new coffee spot were dashed. I was served by a young-ish woman who glared at me whilst taking my order, it intimidated me wondering if I was doing something wrong? It made me feel uneasy. We then got our coffee's which tasted really watery and were cold. I quietly complained to the same waitress who rolled her eyes at me (again very rude considering I was trying not to make a scene) she didn't even apologise she just said she'll replace them. 15 minutes passed and we were still waiting whilst watching other customers arriving after us being served. I was scared she'd forgotten so politely reminded her and she snapped and said "as you can see, we're busy, I'm working on it as fast as I can" we then decided to leave instantly and will never return. What a shame, nicely decorated In a decent location but without customer service / consideration, there's really not much to go for back for.

This is a nice little independent cafe with loads of space to get a place to sit. We opted for the all day breakfast which was adequate. They had ran out of hash browns so they gave us chips instead. There was a vegetarian alternative which I opted for and I got a mountain of extra mushrooms and tomato too! Overall a good standard breakfast for the price. The breakfast came with a round of toast.Although this was just your standard local cafe, what set it apart was the attentiveness of the staff.

Went here when visiting family down in Sunderland on their recommendation. And at first I was a bit apprehensive as the cafe looked nice but more to the basic end of things, even having menu items blacked out in pen! However this was all made up by the kind and friendly staff and the great coffee they serve. All coffee is made from their massive copper coffee boiler thing, and having never seen one before, I was impressed! They also have a wide variety of other drinks and food, and safe to say you'd always find something you want to have there. Great coffee, great staff and great atmosphere. Just visited Sunderland today amid the remnants of Snow and Slush, discovering that there are a lot of dodgy paving stones with a see saw effect, where you step on the side and an avalanche of slush gushes up on to your suede shoes! The toilets were also out of order in Debenhams so I wasn't in the best of moods when I decided to visit Coffea Caban again for breakfast.I'm so pleased I did as it was like a little Oasis in the middle of the town centre. There was chilled music playing in the background and the customers were all relaxed with nobody talking loudly on their phones or to each other. I picked my table and perused the Menu opting again for the £5.10 full English and then ordered from the Counter. A lovely cup of Filter coffee was included in the price an I asked for an extra pot of cream which was bought to me no problem. Soon after the massive plate arrived containing Bacon, Mushrooms, Beans, Hash Browns,Sausage, Egg and Toast with butter. I thoroughly enjoyed my relaxing meal and the food was cooked to perfection. Until around 11am there are a few special breakfast offers which include filter coffee or tea and you can upgrade to a Cappacino for an extra 55p. Would recommend

Hidden amongst the charity shops, pound shops and and betting shops of Blandford Street, it would be easy to walk past Coffee Caban and leave it undiscovered. However if you find it and venture in, it quickly becomes apparent that it much more cavernous than the little shop front suggests. It's decor is almost reminiscent of an Italian restaurant and has lots of tables, benches and a prime spot of sofas in the window. There is quite an extensive menu of hot meals, cakes, snacks and the like with a good array of drinks too. The prices are very reasonable as the portions are generous and the cakes look to be home made.If you're looking for a coffee or something more substantial and want to avoid the usual chain branches then seek this popular place out.

Had coffee here many times due to stamp card for free coffee after your 10th one, unfortunatly when i went in with friends and ordered 4 coffees i only got 1 stamp and not 4, they wouldnt even stamp my friends cards, apparently they would each have to come and queue themselves and purchase their coffee seperatly to get a stamp, how rediculous, lets face it if you go into a cafe for a quick cuppa or bite to eat on your lunch break and see a queue of 10 or so people waiting to be served you would probablies say oh i havnt got the time to stand in that queue and leave whereas if there was just 2 or 3 in queue you would go in and wait, sorry but you are driving customers away.

I stumbled across Coffea Caban as a student and loved their 10% discount for students. They do serve the best hot chocolate and scones in Sunderland which is generally what I go there for. The hot food is ok, good value for money and quite big portions but I normally just go for the sweet stuff. The only thing that was changed over the visits is that the slices of cake have got smaller, for £2.50 the slices used to be quite big and the chocolate one tastes really good, but I think they're too small for the price now. The cafe is a good size and there is plenty of space for people. Well worth a visit.

Been previously to Love Lily both Roker and Herrington and always enjoyed. Today at Roker food wasn’t up to usual standard pancakes don’t seem fresh slightly colder than normal and harder on the surface with a slight chewiness. No one came to the table to ask if everything was ok. Service ok from the 2 younger members of staff both smiley and bubbly. The older blonde member of staff with tattoos and a nose ring was rude and miserable (no name badges to identify other than a description) Overall disappointed last treat of the hols, normally I don’t mind the price for the novelty and quality but today I’m a bit disgruntled at what felt like a waste of money. Lastly music too loud we could barely have a conversation?! What is that about in such a venue?! Also expecting 5 people to squeeze on a small table for 4 people is madness. No room for food or drinks?!
