Really lovely restaurant and great food. Service was warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was great. Perfect Sunday date night.

Place was busy on Friday went with a friend didn’t wait long food was lovely. Staff friendly and efficient place was lovely and clean went away with a bottle of strawberry gin. We will be back 100%

Homophobic? Been coming here for many years, tonight was unbelievable. My neighbour and I had booked a drinks only table from 4pm, at around 8pm we were approached by one of the doorstaff who told my neighbour he needed to remove his hat, we were both surprised because we had been sat at the same table since 4pm and none of the staff or managers had made any reference to his hat. The doorstaff became more aggressive advising us if the hat wasn't removed we would have to leave. There are no signs in the bar advising customers to remove hats etc. I advised the doorstaff we have been in the pub since 4pm and only now 4 hours later was the hat an issue. My neighbour and I both refused to leave and asked for a manager. A manager came over who had been on duty since we arrived at 4pm and had said nothing from the time we arrived he then started siding with the doorstaffand sayingcaps were a problem when trying to identify people on cctv, so i take it women in burkhas or hijabs are not allowed in the coal and cotton ? . We have been coming to this pub for the last 35 years plus and both live local, I can only surmise that my friend and i were picked on because we are gay and the doorstaff have an issue with gay people?

Visited C&C with my parents who were visiting after been given two separate recommendations - it did not disappoint! Beautifully presented pub/bar area where we had a drink before heading through to the dining area for a meal. Fantastic atmosphere, one of the best I’ve experienced in some time in fact (Saturday night). Shared some small plates, the special of lobster ravioli was a real pick. Fillet steak (rare) cooked to perfection with an excellent pepper sauce. Smoked salmon and whipped feta - absolutely delicious. Scampi not bad, a little overdone and a touch dry. Steak sandwich was very well presented but the meat was of poor quality and very tough. Real shame on that one. I can’t imagine it usually is like this. Truffle mac and cheese wonderful. Truffle and Parmesan fries equally delicious. Wine list excellent - the Cairanne I fully recommend, good value at c. £36. Overall the food would have been a 4/5 given two slip ups but overall the experience would come to a 4.5/5 however as you can’t give half scores with google defo more to a 5 than a 4. Highly recommend. Will be back, and often!

Booked easily online, my table preferences were honoured, everything clean and tidy, staff were polite, courteous and friendly. The menu options offered something for everyone. We had the veggie breakfast which was the best I have ever had. I would definitely recommend coal and cotton to friends, family and colleagues.

Loved the setting, the food & the atmosphere. Would have given 4/5 star but not sure if we had ruined the the servers entire day when only asking for 1 or 2 things, ruined the lunch a little bit being served by someone who doesn't smile or speak, wasn't interested & clearly just wanted to get the day over with. Probably wouldn't go back

Went last Saturday with friends have eaten here many times and a lot of my family have food was good but we had a table booked for 2.15 and did not sit down till around 3ish the manager did apologise several times and I know it wasn’t his fault but does put me off going again

I would highly recommend this pub restaurant. The food was excellent. I like cooking and am almost always disappointed when I eat out, not here though. I’d say this was the best pub food I’ve ever had. The service was lovely, not intrusive but ensured the customer is happy. Definitely up there with the best. My compliments to the chef.

I waa really impressed with Coal and Cotton. Its decorated nice with comfy seating, staff really friendly and looked after us well. We were a party of 4 and all had breakfast. I had eggs benedict with streaky bacon and it was lovely. Others in our group had full English and one vegetarian breakfast and we were all happy. Would definitely recommend and hope to return to try out their lunch and dinner menu very soon.

Food was lovely, service was just as good. Only complaint was the seating however it was a very busy time "New Years Day" so I can understand. Will be coming here again. 5 star.

Popped in to Coal & Cotton today for a few drinks before the night got too busy for us, seems everyone else had the same idea. The place was really busy in a good way, the way bars used to be, a great warm atmosphere, all ages mixing together in a really friendly way, plenty of smiling & helpful bar staff (especially Matt & Ed) so there was never a long wait at the bar. Then there's the food..... We only went in for drinks but after seeing & smelling the food coming out from the kitchen on a constant stream, we had to order something. I ordered the Festive Burger & my wife, the Beer Battered Fish & Chips but from the children's menu, as the size of the portion from the main menu is way too big for her. My burger was AMAZING, without doubt, the best I've tasted. Juicy & charred, with thick bacon, Camembert...... Stunning. My wife's fish & chips was perfectly crispy with a nice basket of chips. Had few bottles of their Prosecco & Vino Verde, both excellent. If you've never visited here you need to. Make sure you book though, as no matter how helpful & accommodating the C&C management are, you don't want to be stood at the reception desk, seeing all the food going passed & be turned away as all the tables are booked up.

I went with a friend yesterday for a late Christmas lunch. We enjoyed our food however the sprouts and parsnip were very undercooked so inedible. The parsnip looked as though it was blowtorched instead of being cooked. It was a shame as the rest of the veg were perfect and I love my veg! Everything else was lovely.

The steak was cooked to perfection, one of the best I've had out in a long while. The sides that go with it were also delicious. Service was quick, accurate and friendly. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because they were out of a few drinks that we ordered, (I'm putting that down to being the Christmas period though, to be fair). When I next go, and order x, y, & z and they have them, I'll change this to a 5

Booked for birthday do and had to wait over 20 mins for table at the bar with no seating Had to keep asking when the table would be ready when I specifically booked it months ago. Power cut in the evening however we were informed and still managed to eat and received complimentary drinks to compensate.

A lovely meal at Coal & Cotton as always. Absolutely delicious and a decent portion. Would highly recommend the Cheese and onion pie if this is your go to. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff that served us, everyone was so friendly and courteous.

We went for an evening meal to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere was very good and the staff were very friendly. The service was good but we did have a couple of issues with the food which was sorted out without hesitation. Would definitely go again.

What a little gem this place is! I found it hard to choose what to eat off the A La Carte menu, and my Wife was similarly torn with the Gluten Free menu. Will definitely return.

Great breakfast on Saturday. They were really busy but the service was brilliant and food piping hot! Free filter coffee is a great bonus. We go regularly as it’s the best for food, value and friendly service.

We were at Coal & Cotton for a birthday lunch with my friend on Thursday. Extremely friendly waitress but we didn’t get her name. She didn’t rush us at all and was able to allow us to keep our table for longer as we were there for over 5 hours. Food was excellent and so was the wine, all 3 bottles of it 😂 I highly recommend Coal & Cotton for excellent food and service. Although we did tip I wish we had asked our waitress name because she is a gem and deserves a mention. She was so patient with us and this high level of service is rare these days. Very friendly and happy atmosphere with all the Christmas decorations. We will be back very soon as I want to try the breakfast.

Pate was lovely, turkey dinner, turkey, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and roast potatoes were delicious,the cauliflower cheese was amazing, but the roast parsnip wasn't very nice and the sprouts were like bullets. My friend said her festive burger and truffle fries were lovely. The Christmas pudding was to die for 😋😋They had ran out of white zinfandel which was rubbish and the procecco was flat,the waitress then got my next 3 drinks wrong, I asked for doubles and got singles.

I love this place, the staff are all so friendly and willing to help out. Lucy is such a credit to the Team. The waiters and waitresses are all so friendly and accommodating. I had a King Prawn Linguine which is so tasty i recommend everyone to try! Thanks again to you all at the Coal and Cotton.

Wow! Thank you so much for a wonderful meal. We went for the soup and homemade fish finger sandwich, firstly that sandwich was HUGE, such a generous size and then followed up with just the perfect quantity of soup, absolutely delicious

First time for us and we enjoyed our food. However we had to wait 35mins from placing our order. It's a very nice place but we noticed a couple of neglected cleaning problems. When my wife sat down there was a used table knife on her seat, used paper serviette under a table near by.

Food always delicious and they have a great choice. This week I had Spatchcock Chicken; my friend had Prawn Linguini. Delicious. Bitterly cold day outside - really cosy in here. We rotate places we use Sundays but may drop one to come here. Always good standard and enough selection not to be bored.

Lovely place and staff were really pleasant but the quality of the sunday roast platter was poor . Perhaps because it was in the evening but the lack of roasties was not compensated for and the veg and mash was school dinner standard .

My beautiful sister ( slightly older than me ) My stunning niece & myself were so kindly invited last night , to the Coals 5th Birthday party . It was a truly wonderful night . The management & staff, pulled out all the stops . The food was off the scale . Every member of staff . Smiled & made us feel so welcome . The lovely young lady , that served our wonderful food was a joy . I apologise for not remembering her name . Also the young lady that booked us in . Gave us a massive smile . James took time to come & have a chat . One of the nicest men you could wish to work for . Your ability to make everyone feel special & not just a number , is a credit to you all . Booked a table and waited over an hour before we got any food. Service was relatively poor. Don’t think the waitress cracked a smile all night and didn’t apologise when we had to keep chasing for the food order. She wasn’t happy when we didn’t pay the discretionary service charge and her attitude was quite poor. We split the bill between friends so when we got part way through paying she then said ‘you do realise you’ve still got £xx to pay don’t you?’ I said we weren’t paying the discretionary service charge and she said we should have said before she’d started sorting the bill. What might have been best is if she’d have apologised that we didn’t feel we’d had great service and that they’d welcome feedback. Disappointed this time but never have been before so hopefully just a one off

Very similar to previous review by Clare451. We've come to expect more than average from the C&C but it can be very hit and miss. On this occasion, we must have been in an hour before Clare451 and found exactly the same... *Roast potatoes rock hard and dry *Hard cauliflower cheese and no additional serving cutlery for a shared dish *We had a sharer Sunday roast but no room on a table for two for the platter, our plates plus side order with menus, salt and pepper and candle(which we lit ourselves) *THE KILLER was charging £2.50 for a small half jug of additional gravy without telling us. I should have refused to pay for extra when there wasn't enough on to start with. C&C is a local pub which we will be giving a miss for a good while

This place is an absolute gem! The cozy, beautifully decorated space makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in. The staff are some of the friendliest I’ve come across, always going out of their way to make sure you have a great experience and always making you feel comfortable. The food is consistently delicious, with every dish prepared to perfection and wait times minimal. Prices are a bit higher than average, but it’s totally worth it for the quality. I highly recommend the garlic dough sticks and the steak pie!

Arrived cold and 12 missing beers. We added a tip to make it 10% but since we didn’t get the beers this automatically rose 28% there has been no way to address this which is not on at all.

We ate around 4.30pm on a Sunday afternoon. The roast dinner was probably the worst I have ever had, with the exception of the meat. Firstly it was lukewarm so that was taken away and another one brought out. This was also lukewarm, but as the rest of my family were nearly halfway through their meals, I decided to eat it. The roast potatoes were hard and dry and had obviously been cooked earlier and reheated. The Yorkshire pudding was over-baked; the vegetables were rock hard; the cauliflower cheese was hard and tough. I had asked for extra gravy and found out at the end that I had been charged £2.50 for it! Where we were sitting had poor lighting and it was hard to see what we were eating. There were tealights on the table but these were not lit. There were not enough knives and forks on the table and no serving spoons were brought for the side dishes we were sharing. We also were not offered any condiments with our meals. We had five children with us and ordered the pornstar martini mocktails for the 11 and 13 year old girls. These turned out to be be the alcoholic version, which we only realised when one of the girls started coughing after the first sip. More care is needed to ensure that the right drinks are given. This is my fifth visit here over a number of years, and I have never ever had a good meal. I kept thinking that I would give it another go, and that I would have a better experience next time, but that has not happened. Feeling very disappointed.

Had few starters as wasn’t really hungry came for the movie thing for kids they were very accommodating considering I’d booked wrong has free food and drinks for kids absolutely brilliant with my son who was autistic lovely staff especially guy with glasses and tattoos made me feel very welcome will be visiting soon again thank you very much for your hospitality and great food prices were good also xxx

We booked as normally go the Woodside but was unavailable and I’m glad it was! We don’t normally try different places but we should and I’m so glad we picked Coal and Cotton! Never been before despite living up the road and the food was so nice. I would definitely recommend and return. Me personally I had the seafood risotto and a coffee with a mini Manchester tart which was lovely. The other people had burgers and fish and chips and all said theirs was really lovely. There was a busy cosy atmosphere despite being midweek and a lovely ambience, the service was excellent.

The food was wonderful today. To be honest I don't think we have ever had bad food there. I went for the cheese onion pie and we had pizza goats cheese and chicken wings. You can conveniently order from the table on the QR code. Really love this place when I'm in the area, the pizza sauce is one of the best !!!

Had a very nice time at The Cole and Cotton last night with our friends. Food was really good and the service was good too. Very nice atmosphere.

Second time we have been to The Coal & Cotton and have to say the waiting time for food was longer on this occasion which was disappointing. Having said that our waitress Meg was very friendly and most pleasant.
