Club House 1896 in North Dorset

We had our wedding reception meal here last week and I can honestly say it was fabulous. The staff were extremely attentive and the food was the best. Thank you to Lee, Hannah, Jay and the team for making our special day so memorable.

Having visited Clubhouse 1896 on a couple of occasions with a member golfer, we decided to try the Sunday lunch as a non member and were equally impressed as on previous visits with the food, service and friendliness from entering the building through to departure. We enjoyed a selection of 3 roasts, complete with an excellent choice of vegetables (in fact too much), all very well cooked and presented by very friendly waitresses.

We don’t play golf, but were made very welcome anyway on our first visit. We went for breakfast and were not disappointed! Colonel Waffle had a bacon sandwich and I had a veggie sausage sandwich, the bacon sandwich achieved 8.5 out of 10 and he never gives 10! The veggie sandwich was massive and I even left a bit of it! The restaurant is bright, clean and warm and the waitress was lovely. The meal set us up nicely for shopping (not my favourite pastime).

Brilliant experience. Went to their Xmas dinner with guests and everyone loved it. Great food, great service, friendly attentive staff. Well done! Superb value for money.

Cracking breakfast, it was busy due o the course being closed, but food was hot and served in a timely fashion.

Having left a 4star for my Clubhouse 1896 experience I was shocked to see it showed as a 1star and understandably a concerned response from the venue. Firstly my apologies and I'll attempt to change however if its not possible here is my review. Found a table member of staff promptly came over and took our drink order and returned with drinks for our food choices, we went for a lught lunch choice. While waiting it was nice to see the staff promptly clearing and cleaning tables when people left, the condiment tray was well stocked even down to drinks mats. So our double egg chips and beans twice arrived looked nice tasted great! I noted the Sunday roasts coming from the the kitchen looked amazing too, and will definitely be back for more. Again Clubhouse 1896 my apologies for the error 4stars from me ☆☆☆☆

The best eggs in the UK. It’s unbelievable how hard it is to get a great fried egg 🤣🤣🤣. Love your theme nights too. The stark night was our favourite ❤️

Great spot for good simple honest food and open to non members. We were made very welcome and table service was speedy.

My wife and I stopped here for Breakfast while holidaying in the area and most certainly not disappointed. Every single item on their Clubhouse Breakfast was cooked to absolute perfection, and it was quite simply one of the best cooked breakfasts I have ever eaten! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

Fantastic food and service.Went for Sunday lunch with visiting friends and the roasts we had were amazing and plenty of it.Meat,potatoes and veg all cooked to perfection-our friends and us all commented on how good it was and a great price too.We were looking out on to the golf course and lovely views.It’s not our first visit and certainly won’t be the last-superb.

Thoroughly enjoyed a substantial lunch - well prepared and presented in a spotless restaurant overlooking the golf course. Not the most expansive menu but doubtless focusing on snacks and full meals that are popular with the regulars. The overall service and value was first class.

First time there to eat . Found it clean and with a nice atmosphere relaxing . Food was great .

Was staying locally so decided to check this place out. Just wanted a coffee but was turned away with “we’re not accepting any walk-ins today”….It looked busy but seriously?…won’t be returning

Friendly staff and a good view onto the 18th Green and first tee

Last Sunday was our first visit our Burgers were delicious! The best we have had since moving to the UK. The lady that took our order was very pleasant. The only negative is the staff don’t tell you how to order and they just look at you sitting there. I had to send my son to the counter to ask if we needed to come up to place our orders.

Second visit for Sunday Roast. Absolutely wonderful. Beautifully cooked meat. Veg cooked to perfection. Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes that the chef should be proud of. Pleasant staff who were attentive. Recommended. See you again soon

First time visiting this place and unfortunately my partner and I were really disappointed. Firstly the waitress was stood in the middle of the restaurant when we first arrived, doing nothing, she pointed to the menu to tell us to grab them ourselves when they were just to the left of her. I went in to order and it was just difficult. I wanted to add some pancakes to my food order but apparently that just wasn’t possible as they had a big party in. But if I ordered separately that would have been ok? Didn’t make much sense to me. The food then arrived, my halloumi was hard and not grilled, the eggs were dripping in oil. Hash browns were nice though 👍, my partner ordered the full American breakfast and I think any American would be embarrassed to call that an American breakfast. They advertise American waffles on their menu pictures but give you potato waffles. I ordered an apple, elderflower and mint drink but it came with no mint. Pancakes were mushy and bland. Just an overall disappointment. Sorry to leave a bad review but I felt it needed to be done.

Great food, friendly atmosphere.

Sadly what was a regular venue for us has now become so expensive that we and friends are unlikely to come weekly now, save for the odd Sunday roast (very good). You used to be able to get coffee and a bacon roll for a few pounds, it's now £4.25 just for a bap without your coffee on top. The breakfast buffet is £10 without hot drinks, whereas before lockdown a lovely breakfast with tea or coffee was around £6. It's such a shame as we've got to know the cafe staff and always looked forward to coming but at £19 for a couple of sausage and chips and coffees, it's now out of our price range.

Been here a few times now before the Help out to Eat out and after and always found the food very good, excellent service with a smile. Will definitely be returning, next will be to try a breakfast.

Excellently cooked food, definitely get your money's worth when ordering the full English breakfast. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Definitely worth a visit (especially for breakfast).

A 5 star warm and friendly welcome with food to match.

We booked into Clubhouse 1896 to try out their 25% off burgers on Saturday night. So glad we did, they were excellent, really good value and big enough portions to satisfy the biggest appetite. My husband likes his food and even he struggled to eat it all. Two 4oz burgers was probably a little to much and if next time I could swap one burger for a few chunky chips instead I would be extremely happy - will definately ask next time. There were chalkboards advertising Curry Niight on Thursdays and Fish & Chips on Fridays + some other deals. If they are as good as the burgers we had then you can't go wrong. We will definately be back very soon to possibly try something different.

We met with family and booked a table at this gem of a find based at Ashley Wood golf club. They offer a great menu, reasonably priced and the setting is beautiful. We had a table overlooking the putting green which was lovely. The food was excellent and the service was to match, a very professional young waitress who couldn't do enough. We'll be visiting again soon.

I booked a breakfast for my wife and I for out 31st anniversary. I asked if two portions of my wife's favourite dish could be prepared as it's not on the menu and was told yes. On the day my wife and I placed our order from the menu as my wife had no idea of the real dish and the staff helped keep it secret until the meal arrived which helped make our day that little more special. Thanks to all for the breakfast surprise.

In for a Veggie Sausage bap & filtered coffee. Set up is user friendly as well as comfortable. Only pain is getting in if your a golfer you have to enter via Club main entrance door exiting is easy two doors. You can order from the patio if you Want to sit outdoors. NOT AN ISSUE either way. Staff very helpful a must visit even in these trouble times.

An absolutely wonderful meal at Ashley wood golf course and such a beautiful setting. The service from the 2 waitresses was fantastic and the food was ..... what can I say .... totally amazing!!! We will definitely be back.

Delicious carvery at a very good price! Luscious choice of beautifully cooked vegetables, and a choice of 3 delicious roasts. Staff were very friendly, helpful and obviously are happy in their team.

Came here for a Sunday carvey.Oh my God - it's one of the best carverys I've ever had! The meat was tender, the veg was cooked just right. And unlike the likes of toby etc, it didn't look like the veg had been out for hours on end! We had a choice of beef, pork and gammon. They had the usual Yorkshire puds, Swede, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots and the best roast bar my mums! We then managed to cram in a sweet. Absolutely amazing food! Don't be put off with this being a golf club, really friendly and welcoming.

Don’t be put off by the fact this is a golf club. It’s a very relaxed and friendly environment. Plenty of parking and easy access. Staff are polite and professional. The menu is good and breakfast served until 2pm which is very convenient.Beautifully presented freshly cooked food. I’d find it hard to fault my experience to be honest. My only advice would be if the non member trade increased then investment in a coffee machine would go down very well, and I’m Sure the members wouldn’t mind either! Thank you for a really nice experience.

Stopped off on a foggy miserable day as non members and were made very welcome by staff and club secretary. Great coffee and huge yummy lunch. Will definitely stop off here next time we are passing

Great place for a spot of breakfast or lunch

Had the best breakfast this morning here. Was such good value and the best we have had for many years. The venue was lovely, bright, comfortable and spotless. The disabled facilities were excellent. We were made to feel very welcome as not members of the golf side. We will now make this our favourite place, was truly excellent

Located in The Ashley Wood Golf Club, Clubhouse 1896 has been going for just over a year. The food is great and definitely worth a visit, one of the best lunches I have had locally.

Eaten here a number of times. Always excellent service. Being a vegetarian Lee has a wide choice you must try the Veggie breakfast yummy.

Needed a place open early on a Sunday for breakfast en route to Bournemouth. This golf club delivered. Friendly welcome and breakfast was good. Full English and veggie option, both cooked fresh with good toast! If passing we will stop again.
