Don’t believe 1 star is even worth the service I received definitely not be back again …

I had a handful of chips and kebab at the end of the night was charged £10 for it.disgusing.i rang told her.very rude about it.wont step foot in there again

I visited Clowne Fish Bar with my grandson for the first time ever this week, and it was memorable. The friendliness of the staff was instantly apparent and my 7 year old grandson was made a fuss of, which he loved. Add that to the fact the fish, chips and sausage were delicious and you’ve got a winner here. Can’t sing their praises high enough, it was a great first experience here and it won’t be our last. Well done Clowne Fish Bar, really appreciated your stunning customer service.

Lovely place. portions huge. staff friendly, chatty and obliging. Free samples given to showcase the food without asking. Great chicken tikka kebab, mixed kebab and very large portion of chips. Thank you very much.

Takeaway fish and chips have always been good but the shop now has new owners. Bought two takeaways which seemed a bit more expensive. Fish had skin on, was very thin and not a good colour. Chips didn’t taste as fresh as they should. Always been a loyal customer but won’t be going again

called in while passing through the village what a gem we found nothing was too much trouble for them the girls with smiles on there faces and a really pleasant owner food was all cooked fresh and was offered a free taste of some foods they were trialing out would highly recommend a visit to this chip shop

Really enjoyed the large haddock, fish and peas. Tried the chicken curry too which was delicious. An improvement from the previous owners.

My partner just fetched me chips roe and curry, apparently it has new owners , it was excellent better than before. Thank you , 😊

Excellent food. Large cod are extremely small and not worth the money compared to other similar fish and chip shops.

Very disappointed with the mini fish I wasn’t aware that the skin was left on the fish I would have been nice if they made you aware they leave the skin on that way we would have ask for it without skin I can’t remember the last time I was served fish with skin on unfortunately this spoiled our lunch we threw the fish away waste of £18

A good chip shop, although closes very early. Food is well cooked and good quality. Average prices. Recommend the mini fish special, Yorkshire fish cake. Do not recommend the donner kebab which was a bit bland (no naan bread, chillies etc) but okay I suppose. Staff and manager quite polite and service prompt.

Moved into the area recently and thought I’d try this local fish and chips place. Service was great, price was good. I got home and the fish was awful, the skin was on it and it was undercooked and slimey. I tried a bit and the. Throw the whole lot in the bin. I’m sure it was a blip but it was so bad that It I won’t be trying again.

Popped in early friday afternoon after missing out for a year due to the pandemic, for a small chips and a small and large cod. The previous owners have since retired and the son is running the business. Well what can i say.. super clean enviroment and still safeguarding measures in place.( if its still good enough for our NHS, then its good enough elsewhere.) The cod was lightly golden battered, ( not something that is going to give you a coranay.) and the cod itself absolutely beautiful. It was as white as driven snow. Apparently they still do wet fish for people who want their fish without batter. His parents used to have a good reputation but if he keeps this up he will out do his parents reputation. Will deffinatly go there again.

Great fish & chips, and best doner meat around

I thought the fish and chips just brill, better than most next to the coast, well done, will visit again.

Was told this was the best chippy in Clowne, if so there are some bad chippies there. Chips were ok but lots of bits. Haddock, whilst large just meant lots of hard, flat and greasy batter. Mushy peas were very good. Go there again? That's a no from us.

Paid large for Donner meat and chips but got a small. They put donner to one side of the tray and then the other side chips. Why not put chips fully accross and donner meat on top like other places. Rubbish portion and to top it off, Your drinks fridge covered your kebab price section so you could be charging us anything. Staff also rude. Never gone back since and never will.

We had a fish and chips here the first night of our holiday in Clowne and really enjoyed it. The staff were polite, there wasn't a too long a wait for food to be cooked from fresh and its was reasonably priced.

I ordered a cod & was told that it would be 7 - 8 minutes & to stand outside. After 12 minutes I was informed it was ready, so I went in for it & a bag of chips, wrapped. I drove for a few minutes to a nearby layby, looking forward to my dinner. On opening the fish packet I found most of the slimy batter stuck to the paper clearly under cooked, the fish flakes weren’t bad but the batter terrible. The chips,although tasty all had a coating of minute black & brown bits on them, time to change the oil me thinks. I’ve eaten fish & chips all over the country & these were the worst I’ve had.

Been looking foward to a plate of fish and chips for a week and what normally happens when you lust after something for that long? Disappointment! Not from here though, great chips, excellent fish, good value. Highly recommended!

After visiting loads of different chippies in and around our area we decided to visit a more local one and we were impressed. The staff were really friendly and there is parking just round the corner. Compared to other chippies in our area this one was by far the most reasonably priced. My hubby had two fish cake and chips and I had one fishcake and chips which were really nice. If I remember correctly it cost £6.50. We have paid much higher than that in other well known chippies.

Visited 7th Aug. Old lass coughed into her hand whilst serving chips. Not a good idea at the best of times. Absolutely dirty in today's situation. Given dirty looks when protested. Made to feel like I was the guilty one. Walked out and left them with the contaminated chips.

Arrived at 7.55 and they still had plenty of food available. Staff were very friendly and talkative. Great food,serving the proper chip shop curry sauce 😋

This chippy used to be unbeatable when it was ran properly, unfortunately the main man isn’t there anymore and it has declined downhill rapidly. Tasteless batter on the fish and sausage and the sausage was freezing cold !!! Will not be returning here again. Terrible !

I have been visiting this chip shop for the last 20 years since I moved to Clowne. There was never a day I missed buying a chip cob on my dinner break from school and I always enjoyed it, even though I've been left school many years now I still used to visit at least once a month for some chips, but on the last 3 visits, I've gotten half way through the chips and had to stop to be physically sick. I don't know if this chip shop has changed the oil type it uses or something like that, but the chips do not taste anything like they used to and after being sick on 3 occasions, I'll not be trying the chips again sadly. I can't comment on the fish or meats they serve, as I've never eaten them, it's only the pea mixes or chip cobs I've had.

USED THIS CHIP SHOP BEFORE MONTH APART , SAID EACH TIME WILL NOT USE AGAIN , (USUAL TRAVEL TO CRESSWELL BOTTOM SHOP WHICH IS PERFECT ) THOUGHT WE GIVE THEM ANOTHER GO AND THIS WILL NOW BE LAST TIME , FIRST MESSED ARE ORDER UP EVEN THOUGH IT WAS EMPTY , TRYED OVER CHARGING US BY NEARLY £8 FOR TWO MEALS , FOOD NOT GREAT , NOT VERY GOOD PORTION EVEN THOUGH WE ASKED FOR LARGE , WILL IN FURTURE JUST TRAVEL TO NEXT VILLAGE

To late back to cook tes ee called in on way home and had a chippie night. Beautifully cooked nice bit of fish Jumbo sausage and large portion of chips. (Share the chips as watching the waistline). All very tasty, reasonably priced and piping hot. We will definitely be calling again.

Paid for large donner meat with chips. Got a small potion of chips at one side which was round about a 1/4 of the tray. Asked how much it was for a small and how much for a large. The staff was miserable and did'nt have a clue. They said small was £4.90 and large was 20 pence more. I asked for large came to £5.50. The potion i got was like a kids meal. The shop is not hygienic and looks very dirty. Will not be coming again. They make prices up as they go and price board was covered by fridge hiding the donner meat selection. So would never know the real price. Con artists.

We were in Clowne on holiday, and could not be bothered to cook, so plumped for Fish & Chips, the fish was really nice, chips not so good. Very good price.

I've used this fish shop for years and is normally good but I just bought two mini fish, I wasn't expecting a huge fish but we only managed to get two forks of meat out of each. It was thin dry and hard. Complete rubbish.

This is now our local chippie. We dont go often due to dirt but every time we have had good quick service and a really good meal.would recommend to everyone, it's well worth a visit.

They did a big order for 12 people for us today which was beautifully prepared and everyone commented on how delicious it was! Thanks very much, we will certainly be back!

Best chip shop in clowne and surrounding areas

Been using this chip shop since I was a kid and it was Yates's. Never disappoints. Fish and chips are great, crispy batter and big in size. Also worth a mention is the fish scallops. The friendly owner even part cooked me some so I could take them back to Portsmouth with me as you can't get them down there. It is a practical, standard fish and chip shop, no tables but very friendly service. A must visit every time I'm up in Clowne.

Brilliant chippy around here, and their chicken burgers are really tasty! Great portion sizes, curry sauce is amazing and serve really nice battered sausages! Great pricing.

The fish is massive, flaky coated in crispy batter, we go most weeks travel from Bolsover to Clowne even though the two chippies in bolsover are very good.

Food was nice but service was slow and they didn't have enough food prepped at peak time which is unacceptable
