Chose the Cliff Inn in Crich, Derbyshire, for a lunch due to its location near to a planned walk - and so glad I did! Though the choice of roasts is limited, the excellent quality and quantity received is second to none. I chose the roast chicken but did not expect a half of chicken including wing and leg! Far too much for one portion. That's without mentioning the deliciously fresh and tasty vegetables, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and homemade gravy and cranberry sauce that came with it! All this for under £16 - well worth the money. In fact, I had to take home half of it in plastic tubs and foil that were kindly offered. Well worth a visit!

We visited the tramway village and after that, we wanted to eat something. Cliff in scored well on tripadvisor , so we gave it a go. Staff were so friendly , the food portions were big.!!! Couldn’t finish it all , so we got a doggy bag home. The veg, the roasties, mash potato gravy all excellent. The chicken was bit dry though . Nice drinks too. We would definitely go back if we lived in the area. I would scored the pub a good 4.7 out of 5!

We visited here twice, whilst on a weeks holiday in Whatstandwell. We were given a lovely, warm welcome and had a great few hours drinking, eating and meeting the locals, who were also friendly. We booked to visit the next day too for a roast dinner. I have to say, we loved how the roast was presented and it was delicious! I had roast chicken and my partner had pork. The cauliflower and broccoli bake was out of this world! We will definitely return!! Very dog friendly!

We called in unexpectedly on Sunday whilst in the area. The only food on offer was a Sunday roast (pork or nut roast as a veggie option) for £12.50 per person but... wow! It was served to our table in separate dishes so we could help ourselves to as much or little as we wanted with the offer to put anything we couldn't eat in a 'doggy bag' to take home. One plate of meat, roast potatoes and carrots, a dish of mash potato, a dish of cabbage, a dish of cauliflower cheese, a whole baked apple in rum and sugar (a delicious alternative to apple sauce) and a massive jug of gravy. Absolutely loads of food which we mostly consumed but didn't need anything to eat again until well into the next day! Plus friendly service from the landlord and landlady and friendly locals at the next table too. Highly recommended!

Me and my partner came here on Tuesday evening, me and my partner had spent the day in Derbyshire at some of the caves, went to Bakewell and also into Matlock and Matlock bath so we was looking for somewhere to eat. So I looked up dog friendly pubs in Matlock and the cliff inn came up. We arrived and it seemed friendly. One local called the bar staff to let us know that we was at the bar which was nice. Ordered some drinks and then ordered some food. We was pretty hungry and ordered the liver and onions and the homemade sausage casserole and they were absolutely delicious. We had our dog with us also and they accommodated for her too with a bowl of sausages which she loved. Overall, on oldey pub who was friendly, great food and good service. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area. Will definitely return.

This is a small pub... Typical local pub, very friendly staff and characterful clientele .... Some friends stayed in Crichton for a couple of nights and booked a table... And invited us to join them... The table itself was like my old school desk... Scribbled sayings and drawings all over. All the decor was in a similar vein.. But to the serious stuff.. The beer was superb.. They know how to keep a good pint.... And the food... Bloody lovely.... I had the homemade steak pie.... Full of steak and proper crust pastry.. Made by the landlord... Thanks.... Loved it... Home made chips and mushy peas to go with it. My partner and friend had scampi and this too was very good. The other dish was ham egg and chips, lovely thick pieces of tasty ham, no fat at all on it. Great staff, great food, great beer..... I'll be back.... Did someone famous say that ??? Mmmmmm

Very small pub, a bit run down but the food was good and my husband said they serve a good pint. There were several dogs in one bar when we arrived so we took our dog in the other bar which was quieter. It was ok until a family with four very noisy children arrived. I appreciate that this isn’t the pub’s fault. We enjoyed the food but not sure we enjoyed the pub very much.

This is an unspoilt village pub. No flashy décor or flashing gaming machines. You feel welcomed as soon as you enter. It's a family run pub that attracts mainly locals and at times visitors to the tramway museum nearby. Families, dogs, hikers can be found here. The landlord is a Camra passionate who offers four or five locally sourced real ales at a sensible prices. Food is very good indeed, no nonsense Pub Grub and always plenty of it- all home produced with the exception of superlative pies made by the local butcher. There are open fires in winter. In summer outside seating is popular.I confess to being a regular visitor here.

Friday evenings can be very crowded but if you're able to put up with being at very close quarters to your fellow drinkers this is a very friendly pub. Including Joyce trying to sell you raffle tickets on Friday. Tracey and Liggy are excellent hosts and the Beer is excellent and well kept. The home cooked food is delicious (and lots of it), but can take a while due to demand. So be patient. Two roaring Log fires are provided during the cold weather. Can get a bit Raucous

Although I live in Hong Kong and only come back to Derbyshire once or twice a year, I was very disappointed by my visit this time around. I dropped in for a drink late-afternoon on my way between Holloway and Crich. I simply wanted a drink and break from two demanding kids at their Grandparents' house. I parked next to the table outside, went in to get a drink, and there was no-one there. I could hear a voice in the background, and eventually located the person (not the landlord or landlady) who was more interested in talking into his mobile phone than serving me, then ordered a drink. After I had gone outside and finished that drink, the same experience the second time around. In short, if you want a drink out of popular hours, locate the voice talking into the mobile phone in the back, otherwise you will not get served. Not only that, but although I have enjoyed the food and beer at The Cliff before, this time, with no one in, the tap room bar, honestly, smelt really unpleasant. Come on Tracy (the landlady). People will put up with split seats in the name of old-school authenticity, but a smelly bar... not with the rejuvenated Black Swan down the road with eight well-kept, hand-pulled beers on tap and equally good food for the first time in along time. Get the disinfectant bucket out and get the bar staff behind the bar whenever you are open. And maybe a bit of new upholstery wouldn't go amiss either now that you have some real competition in the village.

The chips in this place are as good as mums which is high praise indeed - never had chips like this in any pub before! Recently had a good meal here, in this lovely old pub, there was a roaring fire going, and a great atmosphere. Nice friendly people. Very welcoming.

If you want the predictability and mediocrity of a chain pub please go elsewhere. If you want the finesse of a gastro pub please go elsewhere. But if you want an honest to goodness village pub, serving wonderfully kept Derbyshire real ales, great food that is home-cooked by the landlady (try the pizza evening for something different, or the seafood pie or local butcher's pies from the regular menu for something else) and be very quickly invited to be part of the local community by the Crich patrons, then the Cliff Inn is for you.I have been coming here for the last three years, when visiting my parents, and have never been disappointed with the food, the beer or the company. "Yes," the ambience is old-fashioned drinking pub, but that is what this place is. Great beer. Great food, Great company. In summary, a good-old-fashioned village pub!If that is what tickles your fancy, then you will be guaranteed a very warm welcome and a very warm experience.

We don't get to Crich very often, but when we do, a visit to the Cliff Inn is a must. It is a friendly pub that serves great food. You get a large plateful at reasonable prices. Such a shame we don't live closer ! Keep up the good work!

Yummy home cooked food and good prices! Found this on trip advisor and the other reviews were not wrong. We'd had a day at the Tram Museum round the corner, great for tea after our day.Reserved a table and was told ok, but last orders were 5:30pm, but a few were coming in for food after that - not sure their correct food end time.Food was hot, tasty and god portion sizes, would return if in area.

Have visited the Cliff a few times now and taken friends and relatives as well.My Australian nephews thought the Cliff was 'epic' with it's great Maycock pies and wonderful home cooked chips. The service is brilliant, yes sometimes you have to wait for your food order but the character of the place and the great real ales are more than compensation. The Cliff is an authentic and real community inn and is so different to the modern bistro pub - thankfully! Long may it continue.

We spent Friday night there with friends. We have been coming to this pub for years and it just gets better. We all had fab home baked pizzas. Later on in the evening we did really on the weekly raffle. We returned on Sunday evening when local musicians get together to play. The atmosphere was great and we had a really good time. The pub is also dog friendly.

When we ordered the food we were informed it would be half an hour due to a large order having just gone in. After an hour from ordering, we inquired as to how much longer, to be told a chip cob was being done then it would be our order. It was a further 15 minutes before the dishes started to come out. Two of the dishes were cold meat pies with pickles, there was a chicken in a basket and a vegetable lasagne. The annoying part was not only was the food order a long time but a couple who ordered after us received their order before us (they had lasagne and an omelette). The explanation was they had a small kitchen/preparation area.

This is our son's 'local'. We get to visit 2 or 3 times a year. We are always included by the locals who are friendly and good humoured. Evening food is tasty and well presented. The selection of local beers is well kept and competitively priced. Aye Up is a favourite - surprised to find it also available at Paddongton station!

We were staying in the area and wanted an evening meal. We found the Cliff Inn but car park was full (a good sign). Manaeged to find a table to sit at and decided to order food and drinks.Guest beer and cider was excellent likewise the food and reasonably priced. In fact the ladies liked the cider so much they wanted to return the following evening. We did but it was full to overflowing so we had to go somewhere else. How disappointing. Should have gone earlier!

The Cliff Inn is as good today as it was forty years ago, when we fist visited the Pub.The food is good home cooking with a varied menu.I can recommend the pies which are from a local butcher. There is a good and varied choice of real ales and can recommend Doombar brewed in Cornwall. Altogether a really nice village pub were you will get a good meal at a fair price

Popped up to Derbyshire from Suffolk to visit the In-Laws for weekend and planned a visit to the Rotary Club Vintage Car Rally - the weather was not great so we cut that a bit short and went in search of a little pub for some lunch - the first one we came across was Cliff Inn, Crich - not much to look at from the outside but a lovey position over looking the "valley" not sure you would call it that but the pub is perched up on the hill looking down! There isn't a lot of parking and we had two cars between us but we did manage to squeeze in.Always a bit nervous when entering small village pubs (I've watched American Warewolf in London too many times), but the table just inside was occupied by a handful of extremely friendly locals who made us feel immediately welcome. The pub looked small from the outside and it didn't disappoint, just two small rooms, one on the bar side and another separate room if you wanted less "interaction with the locals I presume". We sat at a table in the bar side and ordered - the choice of meals available was vast, as well as specials on the board. Between us we tried the pies (locally made), cheeses and good old Ham, Egg and Chips. When the food arrived I think we were all pretty surprised as the quality for such a small establishment - I'm not saying it was 5* but it was definitely very tasty, very well prepared and presented and HOT - nothing worse than being served up a pub lunch that's been sitting on the side waiting for someone to bring it out! I would say this little, friendly pub is definitely worth a stop if you are passing through Crich - whatever the weather!

I have visited the Cliff many times over the years, but mainly as a drinker or a quizzer. This was only the second time that we have visited for a meal, and we have not been disappointed on either occasion. We had to eat in the main bar as the snug was already full, but the locals were cheery and welcoming, and made room for us. The atmosphere was lively, and some complimentary roast potatoes were being passed around. There was a choice of four or five real ales for me, but no real cider for my partner. As dog lovers, we were pleased to see several of our canine chums in both bars, and I was soon reaching for my bag of gravy bones!I had the vegetarian quiche, chips and homemade coleslaw, with an added portion of baked beans. My partner had rib of beef with mash and mushy peas. The chips, as on the previous occasion, were cooked to perfection, and the portions were generous. The coleslaw came in a large bowl of its own - far too much, and I had to leave some - and could have done with being more finely chopped. Other than that, my meal was very good. My partner found her beef was well-cooked, but thought the gravy a bit sweet. (She did say that this was purely a matter of personal taste, and that others might really like it.) I don't eat meat, but my partner was surprised to find that there was no Sunday roast on offer. Overall, though, we had an enjoyable time there, and will certainly return on a future occasion.

Revisited this inn again while on Holiday.Glad to say it is still a traditional inn, with five real ales on tap plus a micro brewery Lager. The Beer is well maintained by the landlord, who makes you really welcome when you enter, and it is dog friendly. This is an inn ,not a restaurant!they serve basic pub meals only, although Thur.and Frid.they serve home made pizzas, and these are excellent.Get in early ,the inn gets packed on these days.Yes the decor still needs improving, but the landlords are gradually remedying this, while still keeping a pub atmosphere, and the locals love the place. If we visit this area again will certainly revisit this inn.

We called in here for lunch in the middle of a walk with family and dog in this beautiful area. We were very impressed by the friendly service and the tremendous range of perfectly kept local ales. The food menu offers a good choice including excellent locally made pork pies with pickles as well as traditional, well cooked hot meals. We sat outside in the sunshine and admired the view as we enjoyed the food and drink. This is definitely a place to return to.

A mixed age group (adults) visited for a family meal in this cosy and winter warming pub. The warmth of the hosts is only matched by the real fire warmth and general atmosphere in this gem of a pub. The local butchers meat pies and sausages pleased everyone. Hand cut chips just like Mum used to make. The excellent Ay Up Dancing Duck beer, was on top form, no less than I would expect from Ligge's undoubted cellar skills. Great prices too.Long live the Cliff!
