Lovely, friendly staff. Good food, reasonably priced, and good service. Booked for evening meal with friends. Tables spaced nicely so not hearing other people’s conversations. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was good, reasonably priced. Not hurried or rushed to place order or to finish courses. Definitely go again.

The best Italian food in the area set in a lovely restaurant on the side of the Angel hotel. Lovely size potions at very reasonable prices. We shared a 7” Pizza to start and it was one of the best Pizza’s we have ever eaten. Good selection of main dishes, all presented lovely, piping hot and tasted delicious. Very friendly, helpful staff. A must visit if in the area.

We had such a great meal. The food was interesting and cooked perfectly. I've never tried duck with rhubarb before - a real find. All the staff were lovely but a special mention to Amelia, our waitress, who was just perfect. If we lived nearer we would visit regularly. Thank you.

Visited this establishment for a meal on recommendation ! The menu was substantial, very nice lady called Cleone seemed to be in charge, as we have had an Italian meal called Porchetta at other hotel's before but this version was superior to anything we have tried before ! They need to keep this meal on the menu as it was a show stopper! Well to the chef.

The menu selection was good, the food served was tasty...if lacking in quantity on the mains for the price though, the staff were attentative to a point (I'll get on to that later) the ambience...the ambience was very bad. Its worth noting the room has a high ceiling and is pretty much void of many soft furnishings bar a few rugs drapped over the walls so the sound echos and reverberates making conversations difficult to hear. We had been pre warned by a number a freinds about the noise level in the room but we took that with a pinch of salt. Alas there was an issue with noise far beyond what we where expecting. The night we took our family we were positioned by what we mistook for an open doorway or putting it another way a doorway without a door, which we took as being like that so the staff could carry drinks through from the bar. Right next to this door on the other side of the wall is a seated entrance area to the bar where on our night about 30 locals spent the whole night screaming, swearing and getting drunk. The noise level was deafening in the dining area where we were sitting, we might as well had been sitting smack bang in the middle of the crowd, this noise permutated the whole dinning area but we had the full effect in stereo. After about an hour someone walked into the room and closed the door, to our dismay, shock and disbelief we could suddenly hear ourselves talk, hear that there had been music piped into the room all that time and questioned why oh why did the staff who are stationed right next to the doorway not close the door earlier. To be honest when we walked in none of us noticed a door was present as it was already open, as stated we assumed there was no door to aid the serving staff. We raised the question with the young staff who had been very attentive to us all night, can't fault them there, as to why they didn't think to close the door when the barage of screaming, shouting and swearing which had been relentless for the whole time we were there was obviously too much to bare when paying good money to eat out. Their answer pretty much summed up to 'yeah it does get very loud but if it was a problem you should have closed the door'...if any of us knew there was a door then we WOULD have closed it but to be honest the staffs attentiveness should have prevailed to understand, by their own admission that the noise was far too loud and there's a regular issue with noise that the simple act of closing the door and keeping it closed would be the correct procedure to make the dining experience a pleasant one. On the way out we bumped, figuratively not literally, into the manager, we raised the issue with her about noise and staff taking initiative, let's just say she was as far removed from listening to constructive feedback as someone could get, verging on rude and belligerent. So eat there, the foods nice, if somewhat tiny on the portions and take some ear defenders to drown out the rabble and prey you don't have to give any feedback to aid them into a better experience going forward because you'll end up with a very sour taste in your mouth, especially from the manager.

Absolutely fantastic! Amazing friendly staff. Food was superb. I don’t normally like Italian restaurants but oh my this was amazing. Fab trio of veg option. Duck and steak fabulous. Puddings exceptional. We were late walk in lunch people but greeted with open arms. Highly recommend.

I looked on line for high rated resaurants, Cleones was not one of them but a local said how good it was. My wife and I were passing through and took his word for it. Result was that we had a lunch which spoilt the day. The food lacked any presentation. The meats in the antipasti were OK but we could not taste the tiny lumps of cheese in a bowl and the tastless white bread only served to soak up the oil in the naff pot of vinegar & oil. My wife had a Quatro pizza which was supposed to have a thin (!) base. The kitchen got the number correct; mushrooms dumped in one quarter, the other three quarters had: slices of chorizo, cheese and something with bits of pineapple. I had a lasagne which I was about to return it to the kitchen because it was just warm on the outside then I found a warmer middle - Lucky me! This place only gets two stars because the service was good.

We hadn’t been for quite a while and popped in for a weekday evening meal. We were pleasantly greeted and were shown to our table. The food was lovely and the dessert option of 1/2 dessert with a coffee was a great idea. We will definitely be coming back at some time, we won’t leave it so long next time.

This was my first visit and I would definitely be returning if I'm back in the area! The atmosphere is ambient, staff are friendly and attentive and the food is absolutely fantastic. I can honestly say this is the best pasta I've ever had! Thank you.

Unbelievably locked into everything we needed. Kate - our super-pro assistant brought the children’s lunch pronto. Just after drinks for parents! Service impeccable. Food delicious particularly veg which can be over suspended In a Bain Marie but came fresh. All the food was delightful. Thank you!

We love it here. You can have a celebration or grab a quick snack. Tonight we had the flat mushrooms and asparagus, flollowed by such tasty pizzas. Too full for pudding but next table had some lovely strawberry ice creams. We were served with smiles and great advice by Cleo and Katie. They love their pub and restaurant and so do we.

Went for dinner after the wonderful Ink Festival this evening. I had the most delicious Falafal Burger with all the trimmings and my husband the sea trout option and a cooling glass of Carlesberg. As always both the service and the food was superb, our go to place when we are in Halesworth always delivers a lovely meal and warm friendly welcome. Highly recommend this place, a jewel in the crown of Suffolk. The afters of apple cinnamon crumble was the perfect end to a perfect day.

Mothers day lunch for three. Excellent roast (2 lamb, 1 beef) served with sufficient very well prepared veg. Pleasant, cheerful staff. As the menu was only for Sunday roast cannot comment on overall menu, but judging by our experience would expect it to be more than acceptable.

I see it has been 6 years since last leaving a review for The Angel. In that time we have been numerous times for an early evening meal and never have we left feeling disappointed. The staff are well chosen and always friendly and in our experience efficient. The food is served in good time and very reliable. Depending on what you choose will obviously determine the ultimate bill but the menu offers a variety of options.

Popped in on the off chance fairly late on a Saturday evening. Restaurant was full but seating available in the bar area. Ambiance in this area was relaxed, not too busy but busy enough. Service was excellent - friendly staff who obviously enjoyed their work. The food was perfectly cooked, and had delicious complexity in the flavours. We will return to this local gem.

We met here with friends for lunch & thought the food was great value & good choice of wines & beers. Staff were friendly & we were not rushed when meal was finished although it was near closing time. They had a good offer on sweets which were all £ 6, however, you could have a smaller size sweet & coffee for £5.50. Great idea.

I booked a table for 11 as a surprise birthday party for my wife. The food was pre ordered as it was a big booking and the food was served timeously and was delicious ( except the Pizza was overdone). Having said that the Kitchen staff did a good job. We went to cleones for my 50th birthday meal, I couldn’t fault it! The food was amazing, there were 6 of us and all six plates were clean. The pasta dishes were superb. All 3 courses were 5* would definitely go again.

Return visit and food great but left flat by poor service on this occasion, lady very apologetic and appeared embarrassed. Waited ages for plates to be collected and to order dessert, I had to go and ask! By reaction I would say this was a blip so don't be put off, staff just need to be more observant, 3 or 4 times they came in and left with empty trays without scanning the room.

Amazing. Birthday lunch with the love of my life and this place did not disappoint. OK. Yes, we’ve been here before but these are strange times. Yet it felt like normal. We visited here on a Wednesday night in September to take advantage of their long-running deal - 2 pizzas or pastas with a free 500ml carafe of house wine. The tables were well spread out, the food and service were good, and we weren't hurried.

Garlic bread with cheese to die for! I had a Caesar salad which was very well balanced. Croutons were not like bricks! Followed by tiramisu. Lovely waitresses and good service. Compliments to the chef!

Felt very safe due to the cleansing and social distancing here. The food was very good and great value. All staff were lovely and patient wearing visors despite the heat. Parking at the Angel Hotel was easy and we will return next time in the area

A family meal at lunchtime on Sundaynthat we picked from TripAdvisor reviews and we weren't disappointed. Thankfully we booked as it was full. Such a warm welcome from the staff, an excellent choice from the menu. 2 pizzas, one scampi and the cod special. All beautiful quality ingredients and really tasty. Plenty of room between tables without it feeling like they'd been spaced out, lovely atmosphere and such friendly staff. Shame we don't live closer as we'd be back more often. Highly recommend.

Staying at the Angel Hotel, I decided to reserve a table for dinner in their Italian restaurant Cleones. And it was just as well that I did, because as the evening wore on the staff were turning people away.I had a delicious linguine with clams and prawns in a light creamy sauce and a wickedly delicious ice-cream. Being on my own I was able to catch a glimpse of some of the other dishes being carried past me, all of them looked very tempting. I was very well-looked after on what was a busy evening and though they had a lot to do, the staff remained calm.

Had an good meal here while staying at the Angel. Authentic Italian with a nice atmosphere and tables well spaced-out. Staff attentive but not overly fussy.

Really sngry about the parking at this restaurant I ended up with a parking ticket that is taking forever to be sorted. The restaurant need to be more vigilant and explain to customers if they have parked in the car park u need to register ur car registration. We looked for a payment machine nothing in car park to tell u what to do. I have ended up with a £100 fine . Really ruined our special dinner and the staff are just defensive stating it’s been like this for a year. We last visited 2 years ago , we live 200 miles away and arrived in the dark. Still trying to get the ticket cancelled as we were legitimate customers of the restaurant. I would not recommend going , the food is nice but the experience totally ruined by the restaurant employing an aggressive car parking company

I visit this restaurant quite frequently with various people and always get a very nice meal at reasonable cost and in a very friendly atmosphere.

Amazing little restaurant hidden within a hotel and pub in a small Suffolk village, what a cracking little treasure.The staff were really friendly, polite and attentive without being at your table to rush you along! Truly amazing food, I would actually go with exquisite... There were no long waits and the dishes were all well presented. These photos will not do it justice and I would encourage anyone travelling around here to pop in for a meal, it's certainly very reasonable for what they are offering.The ambience is very subtle, it's clean tidy and the tables are well spaced - so no sitting in someone else's elbow space.

Although we often go to the angel for a meal we had never tried their Sunday lunch. This meal was as near to a home cooked roast that you could get. There was plenty of well cooked vegetables and extra gravy. The meat was perfectly scrumptious. The staff were friendly and very efficient. We will definitely return for further Sunday lunches in the future.

Cosy restaurant in a lovely building with nice staff, so would love to give a higher rating, but I have to rate based on my experience eating vegan food here. There were few vegan options on the menu. The cauliflower and rosemary soup I had as a starter was nice, but wasn't cheap. Also, the vegan main option (they only have one labelled vegan main on the menu) was quite basic and not that flavourful - essentially just pasta, mushrooms, courgette and garlic, priced at over a tenner. Nothing special, and at that price I can't deny that the main course left me feeling a bit ripped off.

To start, I'm reviewing the 'pubby' end of this establishment, which I thought was called The Angel. We often pop in for lunchtime sandwiches and drinks, along with the obligatory bowl of chips. For three people this will tot up to around £25. Great choice of sandwiches and baguettes, served with crisps and a small dressed side-salad. Nice atmosphere here, you can imagine it being one of the main social hubs of the town. Good choice of newspapers to peruse as well. It feels like what used to be called a very civilised establishment, a term you don't hear so much these days . . . .

Friendly bar staff. Attractive bar and seating areas for pre drinks. Table in the restaurant was airy with good service and nice relaxed atmosphere. Very good menu choices, sharing board starter, delicious pastas, pizzas and salmon. We couldn't resist the great ice cream menu. Decent beers and good quaffable house red too. Certainly recommend this place. Thank you.

I don't know how they keep up this standard but absolutely everything is good. Menus changed frequently and lovely Specials boards. If eating in the restaurant you need to book but the same standard is to be found in the bar areas. Definitely the best Italian food around in my opinion.

My friends and I stayed near Halesworth last weekend and having researched restaurants in the area we decided to have a meal in Cleone’s due to its excellent TripAdvisor reviews. We were not at all disappointed as all three courses were absolutely delicious. We were going to resist dessert until we saw the Limoncello tiramisu on the menu and oh my goodness it was to die for! The service was excellent and staff were very friendly and the restaurant had a lovely ambience. The only disappointment is that we live too far away to go on a regular basis!

Visited for lunch, 4 people ordering from the bar menu. We ordered at 12:14. Not particularly busy. At 12:50 I asked when our food might be arriving. Just after 13:00 our food came out. The children’s pasta that arrived was plain, boiled supermarket pasta with a small handful of grated cheddar on top. No sauce! Not how I remember Italian food.

We were in Halesworth for a few days and decided to book a table at Cleones, the Italian restaurant at The Angel in Thoroughfare. The service was prompt, efficient and friendly. The food was tasty with generous portions, the room and decor, warm and welcoming on a chilly Monday evening. I ordered the pollo con fagioli and chorizo (grilled chicken with fagioli beans). My wife had a lovely salmon with tomatoes and we both had Italian layered potatoes. All very filling, well-cooked, tasty, nicely presented. With one pud and a medium and a large Pinot Grigio, the bill came to £42 which was pretty reasonable. Nice food, nice atmosphere, good service. We’ll definitely eat there again

We were a party of 8 celebrating a birthday & although it was obviously a very busy period, we were made to feel very special. The food was very good & the birthday girl loved it.

The standard of food and happy courteous service never wavers, ever when the restaurant is heaving with people. Menu changed frequently and is genuine Italian food.

If parking your car in Angel caŕ PARK don't forget too put your Car Reg into 1 of 2 Touch pads 1 in Main Bar 1 in the restaurant. My wife and I visited the Angel once again with our grandchildren.We were quickly served as usual and enjoyed our meals. Two of us had pork belly which had lovely gravy and sauté potatoes. I thought the pork belly was a bit too fatty and would have been better if it was crispy. Overall everything was really nice. We will definitely visit again.

This was a good find on tripadvisor for our latest holiday to Suffolk.

We took our 4 yr old twin nephews to the restaurant on a Saturday evening. We popped in the day before to book and were told that children were not accommodated after 7pm, however we could have a table at 6pm which was half an hour before the usual opening time. We were greeted by a lovely waitress (didn't get her name) who was so friendly and helpful with the boys, bringing them colouring sheets and pencils and asking them what they would like to eat rather than talking over them.

I have eaten here many times. The food is usually good and the sevice friendly. On my recent visit the mains were excellent but two of the desserts were a little disappointing. I would also prefer the bread and vegetables to be included in the price instead of extras. I will definitely return.

My wife rated this restaurant an easy 4 stars, as her food was very good, no question. Mine however, as I had gluten and dairy intolerance was just about OK, no more. This restaurant did what used to happen a lot back in the old days when I really used to struggle. That is, they obligingly took stuff out of the dish, but made no effort to put stuff back in (alternative stuff). So I ended up with a dryish pasta dish which wasn't that great, Id already found it a bit hard work as there was no one in the restaurant at all when we arrived, so had to go find somebody, to be then treated as if we weren't really that welcome, and then we had a hard time to to get a bit larger table, despite the place being only half booked. The tables for 2 are very small indeed. So all in all it was a pleasurable evening, wine was good, and side orders good, but a bit of a let down from the care of the customer perspective. Sorry. I Ould have mentioned at the time, but id already had a couple of requests that were treated as if they were hard work, so wasn't in the mood for any more of it.

Lunch burger was awful, came with hard fries and salad thrown on a plate. Totally inedible expensive food. Coffee was good.

Lovely lunch for 4 adults and 2 children, one being only a one year old and having dairy allergy which was no trouble when ordering for him which is often a worry when out. He really enjoyed his meal! I had the calzone which was freshly made and lovely. Great menu choices, literally everything you could want to choose from and if small or big lunch. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and music. Not very easy to get into with steps everywhere though, toilets need a refurb too but great time overall so doesn’t matter. Was very busy bank holiday lunch at 12 so good job we booked!

Just 2 of us for lunch but thoroughly enjoyed it. Drinks first and then a full menu to choose from. The roast beef looked delicious and the Red Thai Veg Curry was delicious.

The Angel back Bar is simply everything you need to assure that you are in Suffolk in good hands. I leave the train, grab a Ghost Ship ale and the best pizza this side of Soho. Can’t be beat. Thank you The Angel and Cleone’s.

O n arrival we were greeted by friendly staff.The room has a warm cosy feel about it. The food was excellent and portion size was right. The house red wine was good value for money.

Excellent Sunday lunch. The roast beef with all the trimmings could not be faulted. Roast beef is always tricky to get right and this was just right. The rest of our party had the roast chicken and sea bass and this was of the same high stand. Portion size just right. At £9.95 and with a well kept pint of Adnams I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

Visited this area recently and after reading good reviews, booked a table at Cleone's and had a very good meal. We had a pasta dish with spinach and the Boar stew and both were good portions and had nice flavours accompanied by a nice red from Adnams. Followed by a good choice of puddings and a coffee, the meal was about £63 which we thought was decent value and it was a pleasant atmosphere

Could not fault food or service in anyway. Had mixed platter to start and specials for mains. Waitress was attentive and very helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Went to Cleone's restaurant today with a friend for lunch. Efficient service and lovely pasta dishes. I had the vegetarian one Fusilli with tomatoes, mushrooms and red onions. Friend had pasta with salmon. Both very tasty. Will return again. Restaurant busy and bar even busier, therefore remember to book in advance.

Although we live nearby this was our first evening meal at Cleones and it certainly won't be the last. We had booked for 6.30pm on Saturday and the restaurant soon filled up with happy people tucking into delicious food. My pizza giardiniera had a generous amount of topping and was simply delicious, as was our friend's pizza marinara, and my partner was very pleased with the boar and chorizo stew with polenta. We ended our meal with excellent ice cream and coffee.

We have eaten here before, but never for Sunday roast. As usual it was hard to get a table as we didn't book, (always a good sign) but after a short wait we found a table in the back bar. Not the best seats in the house, but we were pleased to have a table. There are chairs all along the back bar itself, which makes it difficult to order. I was eventually noticed and placed our order for food and drink. After tasting my Adnams Bitter I realised it wasn't Bitter, rather one of their stronger beers. I've drunk Adnams Bitter for the last 40 plus years, living only 200yds from the brewery. .I told the barman and he changed it, but in doing so argued that my first drink was Bitter. I knew it was different by the look and the taste, but left it at that.
