First time at Clem’s Bishop auckland for takeaway. Had chicken and chips- chicken gorgeous and cooked to order. Chips some of the best I’ve ever had. Hubbie enjoyed his pie chips and gravy- he was delighted with the quality of the gravy especially. I thought it excellent value for money and will definitely use this takeaway again. Sorry to see a sign saying closed on 28th due to sudden passing of Clem. Xxxx

Take out of a chip butty! Pure rip off, bun was hard and chips were like scraps. Look at the picture I took before I even had a chip. Never again, went straight in the bin.

I picked my husband up from work and parked not far from chip shop. I could see people going in and out so asked hubby to get me some fish and chips..... wish I had not bothered. It was quite a small portion and expensive compared with my usual chip shop. There was absolutely no taste to the fish at all, even when covered in salt and vinegar. The batter was burnt... seems the oil was too hot. The chips had no flavour either. Very very disappointing, my first and last visit.

As always the food was amazing at clems, quick friendly service, and food arrived nicely plated and piping hot. We had seated ourselves under the air con/ ceiling fan, which meant a slightly annoying breeze of warm and cooler air but when we explained this the lady deriving us quickly tried to sort it for us, and it wasn't an issue for the rest of the meal. Can't wait for another visit.

Ok I'm sure I will not deter punters who enjoy this chippy, but by their reputation I thought I I would give them a try. It was a total waste of money. My take out consisted of some very cold, greasy, soggy chips and a really small fish which was also cold. Seriously, do you not look at what your serving customers. Won't be back.

I live out of the UK and one of the very few things I miss is fish and chips. Went here with my Father and loved it. Excellent fresh, well battered cod and great chips to match. One of the best meals of my summer in the UK.

I went in clems for a friend , and a lady with short spiked hair started talking to me very politely however she then dropped in a few swear words and I was took back , as I don’t use that language and didn’t to her . I left the shop bemused. I went back a second time and a lady with blonde hair who worked there was stood outside having a cigarette , I stood at the counter and she came in and rubbed her hands with a cloth and asked what I wanted. I wanted her to wash her hands properly. I left the shop and now won’t return

Unwittingly ate from Bishop Auckland branch, The fish was extremely poor to say the least! Wish we had taken photo’s before throwing out. Did not complain to company as I left a negative review of another branch 2 years ago, and I’m still receiving personal abusive messages from a Cleminson family member..

I visited today for fish and chips wrapped up. Upon returning home with eager anticipation, imagine my disappointment in the quantity of chips served. The amount of chips wasn't even enough to satisfy the appetite of my 7 year old child who is a poor eater. The price I paid was £6.30 and I noticed a portion of chips alone is £1.85. I will not be a returning customer.

Moved up here 4yrs 5mths ago and have been greatly disappointed with the fish and chips. Tried a good number, including some award winning ones and for my money Clem's in Bish have been by far the best. Batter was crisp and the fish was cooked beautifully, lovely and moist and just fell into big flakes.

my husband ans myself have tried every clems, except chester-le-street. our favourite is Bishop, closely followed by sunderland. The girls at Bishop are very nice, they always make sure that you feel welcome and that you are enjoying your meal. I gave them a 4 rating because of the bread, it lets the meal down. each of the shops that we have been in have, in our opinion, cheap, tasteless sliced bread, and I think that you will agree, the bread and butter is an integral part of the meal. other than that, keep up the good work.

This is a takeaway and a restaurant. When you hear the name Clems Fish and chips, you know it's going to be nice. The restaurant has a nice setting with dressed tables and the service is friendly. The food is also very nice, whatever you choose. There is only one drawback and that is parking- or lack of it. The nearest parking is 200 yards away and it is a pay and display(Tenters Street and/or B&M car park) Disabled drivers can park opposite Clems. Parking is free.

We have eaten here for years and it has always been good. They recently took the special off which jsed to include fish and chips, tea or coffee, bread and butter, etc, so it is now more expensive to eat there. It doesn't seem as busy as it used to be.

We have regularly dined at Clem's restaurant and have never been disappointed. From 1PM you can get the senior citizen's special, which is a slightly smaller fillet of cod, chips, a salad garnish, bread and butter and a pot of tea. Every thing is freshly made and piping hot and there is ample to eat even for a healthy appetite, all for the cost of £5.95.

Clems fish and chips are well known in the County Durham area. They have a chain of shops and some have restaurants attached to them. I have eaten and had take aways from a few of them. They do give value for money, but sometimes when things are not too busy, their fish are not as freshly cooked as you would expect. The fish would be standing in the heating unit and the crispness of the batter can be a little soft. Best to choose a busy time, that way you can be assured to have a freshly fried fish that has not sat in grease/oil. The restaurant that I have visited have always been smartly table decorated and clean. In some, the service could be improved upon. Being a restaurant customer I would have thought that you would get prefential service over the chippy customer. This is not always so and waiting for your meal can be frustrating. All I can say is overall, it is a nice chippy,

I have been a Clems customer for more than 40years, my childhood was brought up on Shildons fish lot and have dabbled with the Bishop Auckland on rare occasions when working there and never had any problems .Spennymoor was the first shop clem and his wife opened and is now deemed my local and I cannot believe they haven't got a separate review for each shop. There are many fish shops in Spennymoor and to be honest I have tried them all and still gone back to Clems as I can tell the difference and fresh fish is always best hands down. Starting to dine in restaurant now and the service is fantastic and I feel good value for money and really enjoy my fish lot supper more Meal deal with good coffee and bread and butter cannot ask for moreThink my attached photo says more than I can in words Clems. Brilliant !

We used to eat at Clems every week for a number of years but the quality dropped dramatically and we haven't been for a number of months now. They need to drain the food before they serve up to avoid the fish and chips laying in a bed of grease. We had previously told our friends that it was the best chippy in the UK, but definitely dropped off. Nice music and pleasant staff.

My family and I were visiting Bishop Auckland to visit a mobile phone shop as my wife was having trouble with her mobile phone. While the phone was being fixed we decided to grab some food when we spotted a Fish and Chip shop and were surprised that it had a restaurant. The restaurant is surprisingly large and looked very modern and was very clean. The waitress greeted us in a very friendly manner and even offered our three year old crayons and a colouring sheet which was great as it settled him. The food came with great efficiency, was fresh and was piping hot and the kids meal came with a free drink. There was a great selection of desserts but we could not manage another bite as our meal came with bread included in the price. Would highly recommend this Fish and Chip restaurant to all and will be returning soon hopefully with a working phone so we can make use of the free wifi.

Ordered a parmo. Absolutely delicous also got chicken tikka wrap. The chicken was so nice and fresh and the chips are too die for. Best on the town. I’ve not been for months and it’s changed massively also with a new 5 star rating

Aargh! We must've stood for about half an hour to get served (and the queue was barely to the door, and the place half-busy). Sullen staff, who just stand there waiting for you to speak first. Couldn't even be bothered to put the coffee onto the saucer. £4.50 for a slice of lemon cake!!! £2.50 for a tiny little cookie!!? It's a shopping outlet on the A19, not Zurich Airport. The coffee was alright, I think, I was just in a right mood after the service. I like giving the more independent places a go, but I really wished I'd gone to one of the nearby coffee chains for a drink.

Without a doubt these were the worst fish and chips I have had in a long time. The actual fish was fine but it was coated in a thick layer of greasy stodgy batter. Nothing crisp about it at all. Similarly the chips were floppy, and greasy. In terms of size there were just too many small "chips" and not enough decent longer ones. I wish I had walked the extra 20 yards up the way to Clems chippie, it could not be worse than this was.

Toppings should go on top of the cheese not under it. tomato sauce was hardly detectable, base stodgy and spongy. the base was like a cake despite being billed as thin and crusty. if you don't know how to make a pizza, which really isn't difficult, then you shouldn't call yourself a pizzeria
