I am totally disappointed in the regard that this fish shop has for serving people bigger portions to end up wasting the food they cannot eat. Which end up in landfill. I was told that the manager wouldn't accept an adult wanting a smaller portion not being able to eat the large one! It was a simple request and when I said I couldn't eat there the lady then snatched away the menus and headed for the kitchen... so very rude! If this is the attitude to shops in Sunderland. I certainly would not be going back. I can not believe the company would rather me leave most of the food. Just to get another £2.00 from me

My husband and I visited this fish restaurant today as he always says the one in Spennymore is wonderful. I ordered scampi and chips, hubby ordered fish, chips and peas. My scampi arrived, tasted as though they had been cooked in burnt oil, so greasy and hard and over cooked, looked like bullets on my plate, also got a fish bite instead of a scampi. The chips I had about 8-10 that I could eat and the rest were hard scrappy end bits hidden under the edible ones, asked if I wanted tartar sauce, I said yes please, ( had to ask three waitresses were it was) I was almost finished eating what I could when it arrived. My husband could not eat the most of the of his fish due to the grease, and the peas omg what a strange dark green colour. I think we got the day before warm up’s. People who ate after us their food looked nice, but ours was absolutely horrible, we will not be returning to clems in Sunderland

This establishment has a ground floor take away and two upstairs seating areas restaurant. The food is great, and the staff friendly, the price is reasonable, you pay before you get your food. i would go again.

Poor service, sadly the food is worse than the service. Was requested to pay upon ordering which is rather unusual in a restaurant, the fish was small and very very greasy, inedible actually.

I'd missed lunch so was starving and was tempted to try Clems fish and chips. I was a bit disappointed it was OK but I've definitely had better the portion size was OK but the batter was a over cooked and the mushy peas a weird colour. As it was a restaurant attached to a chip shop I did expect better.

Fancied some chips and curry today. Had them to take out. Chips were limp looking and not crispy. Curry sauce had little flavour. Had lots of lumps in it. Not overly bothered by the lumps it was the lack of taste that bothered me most. Unfortunately the majority of them went in the bin with a few being eaten by some greedy seagulls!! Would I return? Probably not

Me and my daughter decided to go upstairs for some lunch. What a disappointment from beginning to end. Staff we rude and miserable. They brought out the Wrong order then in a aggressive way said “well I have not charged you for that drink”. Food was ok. Will never go back here. I’d rather sit on a park bench and eat our fish and chips out of newspaper than be served like that. This day and age there is no need for terrible service

Went on Saturday 17th and was not impressed staff playing about and not doing there job to take orders it took 25 mins to get served when we asked why they said they had lost the order ticket. the food was ok when it arrived as it always is as we go there quite a lot, get your act together it’s not a play school .

Went in to take away part of Clems to order food ,man frying the food the most unhelpful not customer friendly person I have ever met ,I ordered 2 fish patties to be told by him there was only 1 ready and did I not want something else ,no I didn't ,I wanted 2 to be told it would be 7 minutes as if he was doing me a favour bearing in mind this was 12 noon not the end of the day to be cooking fresh products.Whilst waiting an elderly man came in and ordered a fish Pattie The man frying muttering under his breath that none sold that day and all of a sudden 3 in 5 mins I mean is this not a fish shop and are fish patties not on your menu

Sat inside for the lunchtime special. For less than £6 fish, chips, bread/butter and a brew you can't complain. Quick and friendly service. Enough to satisfy the lunchtime meal.

Friendly staff and very good service. High standard of hygiene throughout. We have now lived in sunderland since March and we are enjoying shopping on a Saturday and visiting clems which is a must. Thank you.

Following my visit a few weeks ago I looked forward to visiting again for Cod and Chips. I arrived on a friday afternoon and the standard of food had really gone down hill to my previous visit, which had also been on a friday. The chips were brown and obviously heated up and the fish had also had the same treatment by the taste and texture. The batter was very brown and the fish chewy as it had been overcooked. I suspect that unlike my last visit where everything had been cooked to order, I got the remains of what had been in the fryer, warmed up and served.I think that no matter when you visit a restaurant the standard of the food should always be the same. On this occasion I got burnt offerings and won't be returning

I visited on friday, and after a visit to the Cinema, I was just in the mood for some Fish and Chips. I passed this Restaurant and decided to call in for lunch. I was served a delicious plate of Cod and chips. The Cod was cooked to perfection, with tasty white flakes and a divine batter and the chips were freshly cooked. With a pot of tea and bread and butter this was a bargain at £5.75. This was a special so I'm not sure it is this price every day but for value and an excellent meal it was very much worth the money. The Staff were also very pleasant. One thing to mention is you pay as you order which is good as there is no hanging around after you finish

We went on Saturday and initially there were two tables with customers and three servers. Waited 15 mins to be served by the short dark haired woman in her late 50s. She then strolled over to the table huffing and did us the kindness ( that is how it seemed ) of taking our order. She immediatly asked for the money before she had finished writing. We asked for drinks with our food and reminded her as she left but she just brought them out there and then The food came quickly but we had to wait for sauce and that was thrown down on the table. We had been given one tiny pot of milk with a pot of coffee a pot of tea so I asked for another milk, well if looks could kill. 5 mins later she brought the milk slammed it down. We felt intimidated and unwelcome. we remained polite throughout and just hoped she wouldn't spit in the food. She seemed angry like she wanted to throw something at you. My mother is 85, the woman spoke to her as if she was rubbish It was such a bad experience I hardly noticed what the food was like, we just wanted to get out of there. £14.50 for small fish and chips, a portion of chips and a pot of tea and a pot of coffee.

We decided to go to the sea front at Seaburn and get fish and chips as the weather was so nice and warm for September My son decided on Scampi and I decided on Hake which were cooked to order and they were excellent. My husband isn’t a fish fan and decided on a pie. Portion sizes were excellent and the staff really helpful and friendly.
