Stayed in the deluxe room. Good bed, it had a double duvet. In deluxe rooms there is no mini fridge, but there is an electric kettle, tea bags and a couple of bottles of water. Streaming on the TV does not work, the hotel said it was a general problem. There is a shower combined with a bathtub, the shower is fixed to the wall. The cleaning is top notch. The breakfast is ok, but not very varied. The location is top notch, all kinds of restaurants and pubs are right outside the hotel. The train station is close, so easy public transport.

Large fairly modern hotel in excellent position for Cardiff General Railway Station and the main shopping and entertainment areas. Good seating / bar / restaurant area. The bedroom was ok ... but let down by two things - the very poor lighting. Two light bulbs weren't working (surely these things are regularly checked in a four-star hotel) but even if they had been the lighting would have still been very poor. No doubt having so few lights allows the hotel to boast its 'environmental efforts', but at the expense of guest comfort. I'd say the same thing about the air con/heating ... it automatically turns off at midnight, regardless of guest needs or comfort, which the sign says is to help their environmental stance (nothing to do with simply saving the hotel money). And the maximum you could turn the temperature up to was only 23 degrees. Not sure whether I would stay again.

Room was freezing cold with heating system on constantly at maximum output. Sleep was an issue as a result, waking up freezing cold. Room and decor very basic and a little tired. Toilet surrounded by urine-stained painted walls, disgusting. Had an issue with our key not working. Reported this to reception and asked for 2 keys but only one was given because the system wasn't working. No offer of any kind of solution for this other than we just have to manage with 1 and not the 2 we wanted. Breakfast was the only real plus point of our visit.

Lovely hotel in great location but absolutely not worth the price tag for me. Staff interaction is nonexistent and there was only one lift working for our whole stay which was very small and kept skipping our floor (9th floor) which was not manageable on foot with 2 young children. I have stayed at the Clayton in Cardiff many times over the last few years, I have always enjoyed it which is why I come back. This visit was from Friday 21st for 2 nights at a cost of £865.30 When I arrived in the room, the decor looked tired and there was a second bed in the room which I wasn’t expecting. The room was classed as an executive double and to be honest it fell far short on what the room looks like on your website. On the Saturday am at 0930 I went to reception and spoke to a lady saying the chair was almost broken and not fit for purpose, she promised to get it changed, but it never happened. The toilet seat was very noisy when in use which meant if we got up in the night we had to be careful not to wake each other. When the TV is off on the remote there is a blue light on which illuminates the room, and not conducive to a good nights sleep. On Saturday afternoon I was waiting for my wife in the lobby area, one of your receptionists (The shorter and older one ) san a piece of paper on the floor and left it there. The bar staff were brilliant throughout our visit being efficient and courteous at all times.

Stayed for 2 nights as a family of 3 so had a double and a single bed. Can’t fault having a proper 3rd bed rather than a sofa bed although a double is small for us but comfy. The rooms also have Sky tv which is great. That’s pretty much all the positives out of the way. The rooms are old and worn, carpets worn, the fridge didn’t work, the lights above the bathroom mirror didn’t work, shower rail barely hanging on, loose electrical connection in the plug socket making the lamp flicker. All things that could easily be sorted with a little maintenance. If you book through booking.com beware that the rooms look nothing like what’s in the pictures which I based my decision on, this is misleading and shouldn’t be allowed. We ate in the restaurant, not great. Ordered a sour dough bread starter and they gave us a chopped up old baguette and some left over butter packets, I complained and they gave us what I ordered. Just do that in the first place! Beef Burger wasn’t that bad but was annoyed by that time! Location perfect, in the centre. Park in the central station car park which is an 2 min walk and coast £27 for 2 days. All in all not the best I’ve stayed in. I wouldn’t stay in a Clayton hotel again and I would look around first before choosing this hotel.

Was here from a Thursday to Sunday in room 604. As you can see from the pictures, it is incredibly spacious and the view out onto Cardiff was particularly stunning and unexpected. We used the conference rooms which are located on the second floor - from what I understand the lunch was pretty pricey and the availability of non-carb foods was pretty low to be honest. There is a gym, also on the second floor which has weights, a couple of treadmills, couple of bikes and some other equipment. To use you need to sign a waiver and then you get a key. The room has a kettle! So many don’t. Which is annoying. The TV is not a screen share or mirroring one but there does seem to be HDMI ports you can access so if you were here a while and brought a cable that may work. The bed was incredibly comfortable and noise from street quite minimal. The location is brilliant. It’s about a 30 min walk down to Cardiff Port and the shops and main town is easily accessible. The rail replacement bus is located at the back entrance of the train station and not at the main bus station. It was a really pleasant stay and there was a high standard all around.

There was no water in the room and when we asked for water in the two rooms that we had booked, the staff made a face and then brought all the water bottles to one room and kept it on the floor outside and said we can pick it up ourselves. I had stayed in this hotel a couple of years before and had a great experience however this time was not so good. We got given room 323 which was a room with no view to the outside- our view was of the foyer and dining area. We had very little to no natural light in the room and we couldn’t even open the window so by the morning the room was incredibly stuffy and felt really disgusting to wake up in, additionally the room had a really nice big TV, but I’m assuming because of the location of the room, the TV couldn’t even connect to any channels properly. It was a really disappointing experience considering the last time I stayed I absolutely loved the room in the hotel. Whereas this time I wanted to get out as soon as possible- not to mention a suspicious looking stain on one of the chairs in the room! However on the upside location is good.

Stayed here about 5 years ago and had several issues at the time. July 2024: stayed for 2 nights because friends gave us a voucher as a gift for our wedding. Upon booking, we were told on top of the voucher alone, we needed to pay £35 more! Upon questioning this, despite leaving messages, no one returned our calls about this - we did all the chasing. Eventually, we were told this £35 extra payment was wrong information. Booked an extra room for our disabled adult son. The day before we were due to arrive, we requested thin sheets to sleep under, NOT duvets. NO thin sheets supplied. Air conditioning (AC) NOT working. The weather was REALLY hot! I have many health conditions, one of which is when I'm too warm, it triggers my migraines. Then the TVs in both rooms kept cutting out. Then the room phone worked intermittently. Was told to allow time for the AC to work. Was given fans. Because the AC didn't work, we were moved to other rooms. No offer to help move our items. Took several trips. Shower is fixed: unable to detach to use. NO bath anti-slip mat. Guests need to request one. Asked for 2 mats: one for our room and one for our son. Was given ONE mat, (which was dirty). Was told there was only one left! (What a way to run a hotel! For health and safety, surely EACH room should have the anti-slip mats in the room. Our son would never be able to request one for himself, due to his difficulties). Once again, we requested thin sheets for both rooms. Again, only one sheet was supplied. Asked for another for our son. Then there was a creepy crawly in the bed. My wife has a phobia with bugs. In the early hours, this needed to be sorted out. At this point, I wanted to leave early but decided to remain because our son was asleep. The communication was bad between the staff. For each request, we stated we needed TWO lots of each item because our son was in a room separate from us. Only one item was delivered. We had to constantly wait for staff to return with the missing items, or for things to be sorted out. This was NOT a comfortable stay. Overall, staff polite - HOWEVER we are VERY disappointed with this 4 star hotel. Really spoiled our wedding gift. Upon checking out, informed reception of our experiences. The lady confirmed our contract number and said she would take a note and someone will contact us. Will management make contact? We doubt it. We have stayed at B&Bs with better experiences. If you do stay at this hotel, the nearest car park is located at the train station. For tickets you need to either download an app or pay at a train ticket machine. At the time of this review, the cost is almost £14 a day. Car parking attendants DO monitor the area! UPDATE: over 2 weeks since I posted this review. Still waiting for management to contact us. What a surprise! Will we return to this 4 star hotel? What do you think?

It is stated that the establishment has air conditioning, however, under the pretense of environmental conservation (cost-saving), they deactivate the air conditioning during the nighttime. Additionally, the windows are sealed, resulting in three consecutive nights of sleeplessness due to excessive heat. I recently stayed at the Clayton Hotel Cardiff for 5 days, booking two rooms for the duration of my visit. Unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant, primarily due to the substandard cleanliness of the hotel room service. From the moment I entered my room, I was struck by the poor hygiene standards. The floors were visibly dirty, and the beds seemed to have been made without proper cleaning. The worst part was the state of the air conditioning unit. The fan was covered in dust, which was not only unsightly but also posed a health risk. As someone who is sensitive to dust, the uncleanliness of the room significantly affected my health. I developed a persistent cough and throat pain, which made my stay uncomfortable and disappointing. The lack of attention to cleanliness and hygiene in a hotel is unacceptable, especially when it impacts the well-being of the guests. I hope the management takes immediate action to improve their room service standards to prevent future guests from having a similarly unpleasant experience. In its current state, I cannot recommend the Clayton Hotel Cardiff and will be hesitant to book a stay here again.

So we booked Clayton the day of our arrival which was quick and easy. The call operator was very helpful. It was a nightmare trying to get to the hotel with all the taxis taken over and blocking the roads. We will probably find that we will have fines due to the inconsideration they have for other road users outside the hotel! We had to park 15mins away from the hotel as the car park closed at a certain time and walk with suitcases. Hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful can’t fault the staff at all. Overall the room was clean tidy but my opinion very cramped. Our room was on 5th floor 512 outside the lift which me and my family kept getting woken up due to drunken people getting out shouting and balling outside the door (that wasn’t pleasant). Unfortunately these people where our neighbours and the walls were like paper and you could hear everything going on keeping the family up to 5am. We was going to re-book another nights stay but decided against it due to having no sleep. Breakfast was nice and check out was easy. Other than the issues we faced with getting to the hotel and people keeping us awake all night i would have genuinely put a better review. I just can’t say we enjoyed our stay at all.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Clayton Hotel in Cardiff. However we do have a few bug bears. Firstly my youngest has a shower phobia because he is neurodiverse so I was excited to find a bath. However when we returned on the second evening of our stay, we found that the bath had not been cleaned out. Additionally there was some real confusion over the evening meal. My kids hadn't been included in the evening meal, so I had then pay extra and only had one meal, I was happy to pay extra for the meal supplement because I thought it included our entire party. They did give me a slight discount on one of the meals but it did leave me out of pocket as a newlysingle parent and because I needed to pay for the extra meals I hadn't accounted for.

Wow. Wow. Wow. Truly an increadible hotel. Great for whort breaks, office meetings, and proffesionals. The security is tight, so you are safe from the moment you get in. The rooms are very clean. The bedroom we stayed in was very cosy. Extremely quiet, and well maintained. The Wifi was quite fast too. This was a big surprise. Just not a memry foam mattress fan. Guess it is great for a small shaped bodies to stay flat on; not great for romantics. We had breakfast on both days we stayed there. Great choices for you to eat. Not a fan of the coffee. I require strong coffee to start the day right; but that was the only negative. Shall definetely go back there as more positives than negatives..

This is a very reasonable priced hotel located in the city center. We parked in the parking lot at the Central Station - it's pretty clean. There were no paying station buy you can easily but parking tickets from the ticket machine that sells train ticket close to the entrance of the train station. The room were modern and nicely furnished. And to my delight there is an ice machine on my floor! Not many people use ice in UK and to find an ice machine is a dream that comes true during travel (what can I say I live for ice) The hotel was just a minute away from all the bars, eatery and a big luxury shopping mall on the road parallel to the main road. Some of the fast food joints opens till 4am. People go there to drink as they are so many pubs and bars in that area. Our highlight is meeting the Wictoria (with a W) - she is super friendly, very helpful and so easy to talk to. I was a bit buzzed from driving long distance so I have been drinking red bull and I get a bit hyper from the caffeine overload. Wictoria was so down to earth that she was laughing with me, joking and carrying conversation with me. She is really a wonderful person. It seems that they have really friendly people working in this hotel. Later I get to meet Lito who was super enthusiastic and funny. I regret that we only stay for two nights as it was really nice to say hi and talk a bit with them when they are not busy. There is a Brazilian Churrascaria serving all you can eat Rodizio (rotation of amazing meat all grilled to your liking) at a very reasonable price especially lunch. I would have hive 4.5 stars but I had to dock some points off because the AC in our room keeps shutting off - i tried to figure out the configurations but to no avail. Because the AC keeps in shutting off and the windows are locked, the room have poor ventilation and it can get pretty muggy sometimes. Aside from that - this is a great hotel to stay while visiting central Cardiff!

These rooms were small. The double bed for two is unacceptable in today's hotel market.

A nice hotel and very easy to access from the train. However we booked an executive room, but it wasn’t worth the extra money. The bathroom was ok, complimentary shampoo etc was like Handwash, luckily we brought our own. The contents of the fridge were complimentary but there was only a water carton in there. Sky was ok but the remote didn’t work. Therefore I’d say this room was no more special than a premier inn room. Having said that it was clean, breakfast was delicious and the location was great.

Me and my partner (both Portuguese) were on the mood for some proper portuguese food yesterday afternoon. We looked online and found Mãe Maria. It was still a few miles away, but encouraged by hunger, laziness to cook and the idea of a warm Portuguese meal, decided it was worth a try! We got there late and went to the wrong place (useless GPS!)! We called the restaurant to know if it was still OK to go in, fearing it would be too late! The person answering put us at ease saying they'd wait for us! Its a really cosy place, the owner is a really nice guy who was happy to chat with us the whole time. We listened to some fado, had some super bock , I went for a francesinha and my partner had bacalhau à bras! Everything was delicious, even the starter (taste of Portugal, try it,). I was pleasantly surprised by the hand cut chips, its something so rare where we go! Of course we had some desserts and a nice expresso, before letting the staff have their meal and get some rest! Thank you for your patience and attention to us. We'll be back soon, my partner wants to try your francesinha!

As a novice to Indian cuisine, the staff took great pride and attention to recommend a dish that was perfect to my tastes.
