The best food for miles around and definitely worth the trip. Came to see family and stopped for dinner. Food is absolutely amazing, so fresh, locally sourced and in season. The lamb roast dinner was superb, not a frozen roast potato or Yorkshire pudding in sight. The Highland chicken was delicious and the peppercorn sauce bloody amazing. Finished off with sticky toffee pudding and custard and we weren't disappointed! Staff so helpful and friendly. Lovely renovation too.

A group of us were fishing on the Mull and called in for a bite to eat and to watch the football 30th June 2024. The food was excellent and the pub spotless, good drinks, great staff and the landlord a gem. Even gave us some logs for our camp fire. Will definately be returning every year we are up on the Mull fishing.

Really friendly with decent ale and good home cooked food. You can also sit outside on the deck. Only down side is that parking can be a little tricky but that aside it’s well worth a visit. Unusual menu item is black pudding goujons served with local honey…delicious!

Have eaten here a few times, the real ale is always very well kept and served, and there is a good selection of dishes to choose from. Nothing too exotic on the menu when we were there, but if you're after a burger / lasagne / chicken enchiladas etc, they're all very tasty and good sized portions. It's child and dog friendly too. There's a large restaurant area at the back, but as we had the dog with us we ate in the bar area -- tbh, this was actually a bit more atmospheric, and we had a good chat with the owner (David) and very friendly serving staff. All in all highly recommended for an couple of quick pints or an evening meal, will definitely be back.

The first time we got take away deep fried Haggis and Chips and Fish and Chips. I had the Haggis and Chips because I had never had Haggis before. It was nice but the portions were huge. We came here the next day for dinner and we all had Haggis, mashed Potatoes and Swede. It was all very nice. We came here again tonight and had the same thing again but me and my Mum shared the Haggis, Mashed Potato and Swede because the portions were so big the last so I could fit in a sticky toffee pudding with Ice Cream which was nice. The servers were nice too. I would recommend the Haggis, Mashed Potatoes and Swede from here.

Great place for a meal, friendly and casual. The staff (to my shame I failed to get her name) could not have done more for you. I would heartily recommend something which comes with the outstanding cream of whisky sauce, it was so good I was tempted to ask for it poured over the apple crumble too - only half joking lol. Could probably do with a few more vegetarian options, for those of that persuasion.

Had a takeaway meal in May from here. I had curry which was adequate, I got takeaway fish and chips for my parents. Really terrible, batter awful, chips awful. Everything had been made much earlier and thrown back in to reheat it. The dark brown look of the batter was a giveaway. A definite no no with any hot food especially fish and chips. My parents could barely touch theirs. Almost overshadowed an otherwise great week for my mother. Fish and chips seem to be too hard to get right for many hotels so best pick something else if you are eating here would be my advice...

We eat here regularly when holidaying nearby. A traditional local pub with great hospitality and consistently good food. A varied menu, nothing fancy, just well cooked food, reasonably priced. Whilst spending a couple of nights in Portpatrick the wife and I decided to take a wee trip to Drummore. As we approached the village we whizzed past the Clashwhannon, as it comes up on the road quite quickly, and - although a large enough building - it's easy to drive past. Once we'd passed it we saw signs for the 'Ship Inn', and so both needing the loo at this stage we continued to follow the signs.By the time we'd driven past the harbour and out towards a picnic spot parking place, we realised that we'd missed the Ship Inn. Either that or it'd sailed off somewhere! We U-turned and headed back the way we'd just come and this time didn't miss the Clashwhannon. It was a beautiful hot day so we chose to sit outside, but entered the restaurant area to order. This is a large and roomy pub restaurant, and the staff were welcoming and friendly.I ordered the liver and bacon casserole with mash, my wife the vegetarian curry. Both meals were delicious and plentiful, served hot and promptly, well cooked and well presented. One alcoholic drink and one large juice, two meals and less than £25. Result.Anytime we're next in the area, we'll return.

Ate and drank here twice in July. Food was nice (fish pie, scampi, hot beef bap) would’ve rated higher if chips hadn’t been the basic frozen type. Dogs allowed in to smaller bar only. Surprised that the beer wasn’t better as it’s in the Camra good beer guide (a bit hazy - shame).

Passing by so dropped in without looking at TA. No friendly welcome which wasn't a good start. Lady behind the bar gave the impression she wanted to be somewhere else. Steak pie had lots of tender steak and was a good portion with chips and peas and carrots. Ruined by the fact it was heavily salted. When i mentioned it to two staff after both asked if everything was OK, I was just told it was their most popular dish, like that made it alright!! Fish pie was excellent, again a good portion with chips, salad garnish and garlic bread. Personally, I would not return.

Disappointing. Had first round of drinks. Considering the menu. Then a dog was allowed to run around inside the pub off a lead up to other people’s tables. Decided to finish up and leave quickly as I prefer not to have loose dogs running around especially if thinking of eating. Landlady managed to lose half her clientele and certainly the second round we were contemplating.

The pub is part of the Caravan park I believe but is open to all. We were staying nearby and had decided to have a night off from cooking. There is easy parking next to the pub. We had a fish and chips and a hunters chicken both of which were cooked well and, the hunters chicken especially, was a very generous portion. Drinks are averagely priced and they have several guest ales. The night before we travelled home we decided to visit again. This time we had a beef lasagne and a chicken lasagne, again cooked well and were very tasty. We treated ourselves to dessert and both had the homemade rhubarb crumble which was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would return if in the area.

Louise, proprietess, was cooking and every plate sent through from the kitchen looked similarly good and in huge portions. Highly recommend. Prices very reasonable indeed, and wide range of real ales including guest ales changed regularly. Very popular, and deservedly so. Favourite with locals too, as was clear from chatter in the cost, traditional bar, while tables outside were bathed in brilliant sunshine. A good place in an enviable location on the coast.

A friendly pub, though not as cosy as the picture suggests. The scampi, breaded, was fine. This is an area with few eateries so this is probably one of the best. The music and decor probably hasn't been touched since the 80s (and the choice on the menu also reflected that) and there is a smell of old carpet as soon as you walk in. Reasonably busy on a bank holiday weekend. The do offer three beers in third pint glasses, which pleased my husband!

Family owned and run. Staff are all locals, so you can get the local gossip,or their version of it, as well as general news. The Bar staff are used to Cheeky Farmers, so City Boys get short shift if they are out of order, all done in the best possible taste. If you can't laugh at yourself, you will have to adapt, and you will get good humoured assistance with adapting. There is a frequent changing selection of guest ales at the Bar.The restaurant uses a lot of local produce, which is freshly cooked to order. They do have a few specialty meals. Do not order Jumbo Cod unless you are really hungry. The fillet of fish will be hanging over the edges of the plate, and it is not a wee plate!!!!Vegetarian options are good and Kids (Senior Citizen) Portions are available as well as tasty treat meals to tempt the kids.A great welcome in a friendly pub at reasonable prices and excellent quality.

We went for high tea on Mother's Day . I had a very small portion of lasagne served with a few frozen chips and a piece of soggy garlic bread. It was edible but not something I'd order again. My other half had the haddock and chips served with mushy peas and a slice of bread and butter, we weren't sure if the fish was fresh or frozen but it was in a very crispy coating and tasted okay. This was followed by a cake stand with homemade cakes and scones, those we tried were nice, but not enough to make up for the meal. At £8.95 it wasn't an expensive meal.

This is our second visit to the Clashwhannon (the first middle of last year) and we landed in without a booking on what was obviously a busy mothering Sunday for them.We were still accomodated in the bar area for our late afternoon meal and opted to go with the 'High Tea' which was excellent value. Staff and locals friendly and we would use again.

Can get a bit noisy and cliquey at times when there is a big group of anglers in residence... but generally a friendly bar with better-than-average quality pub food. Definitely worth a visit!

Known locally as the Clash. Good food and good company. Standard pub food, such as meat pies, fish and chips, etc. Used to be the Creamery in Drummore.

The food here was first rate, great hospitality. Although a number of the items that were on the menu, were not, if you catch my drift. The Haggis was devine!!!

Awful. Staff (owner?) rude and more interested in gossiping and chatting to locals then serving anyone. Waited for ages decided to head to Portpatrick instead. Avoid.

Your address is miss-guiding. You are not in Castle Douglas, but 15 Miles away in New Galloway! A drive after dinner!

Recently changed owners who have spent a fortune upgrading the property both inside and outside. The menu has been upgraded too and both the food and service are first class. The Sunday carvery is magnificent. The staff are exceedingly pleasant and nothing is too much trouble to them. There is now live music weekly by local musicians and everyone is welcome. All this and dog friendly too. A Moffat Gem.

This bistro has lots of vegetarian/vegan options, and a lovely beer garden with tables, so if it's shining, you can sit in the sun with a lovely meal. It also has free parking, if limited places. Would recommend booking as it gets very busy, but well worth it.

Unexpected delight on a cold November Monday to find lovely lunch and open fire.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.
