I’ve fallen a bit out of love with restaurants. Service glitches like food arriving before the wine in places where you are made to feel they are doing you a favour for taking your money have taken the magic away a bit. So it was an absolute joy to rediscover Clarke’s after being away for a decade or so. Quite simply everything hits the spot. Great, unrushed service and a warm welcome. Food delicious. Wine equally so (and served before dishes arrive). Nice to see owner Saliy Clarke hands on. Not cheap but worth every penny.

Another memorable dinner at Clark’s! This time we chose Clark’s to celebrate a very special occasion as we send our youngest child off to University. As you can imagine we wanted a perfect low stress evening and chose Clark’s because of its welcoming, charming atmosphere, friendly staff and wonderful food. The corn soup, veal, scallops and chicken were cooked beautifully. We all enjoyed our evening immensely! Thank you to everyone at Clark’s for your kind, attentive service and delicious menu. Absolutely our best farm to table meal in London. Sally Clarke runs an understated but glorious restaurant that pays homage to Alice Water’s Chez PanIsse. Every element of your meal is organic,, fresh and perfectly cooked. We loved the impeccable scallops with roe, the venison and grouse. The service is outstanding and Sally herself enjoys roaming the restaurant to ensure all is perfect. Kudos

I enjoy everything about this place. Always a good experience. Food is simple and seasonal. I wish it was more “spot on” in terms of execution. As someone who enjoys cooking I got rather precise expectations when I go out and spend quite a bit for the food. I really do like the atmosphere. We knew the owner Sally Clarke when she was still in California, before opening this spot in London. We have visited her at least once on every trip we've made to London. In the late 1990's by coincidence my parents were in London on their only foray overseas. I took them to Clarke's. My mother asked "where's the rest of the menu", having never been to such a place. This is epitome of fine dining, without the pretentiousness. I won't bore you with the luncheon menu details as it changes daily. But it was quite the treat on our five days at the BBC Proms this year.

If ever you are in London and want to eat a fine meal - this your place . This fine dining experience here for us was unforgettable . The most charming place to eat a satisfying meal classy to the core . The excellence in service , the quality of food and the decor outdo each - perfect . I came here with my family of six and had reservations ahead of our visit . The food menu has options for vegetarians ( limited ) and non veg ( more). The leg of duck and the fish was supreme as I could see the family members enjoyed it . My pasta dish was creamy and tasty . The choice of wines are good . This fine dining comes with high prices but worth it. The icing on the cake was I got to meet the legend Ms Sally herself with words of appreciations for coming here . The perfect star and her star eatery . Highly recommended .

Clarke's Nottinghill Review Clarke's Nottinghill, established by Sally Clarke in December 1984, is a London restaurant with a rich history and a loyal clientele. Known for its simple, seasonal cuisine and welcoming ambiance, Clarke's has long been a staple for artists, writers, and local residents. However, my recent visit to Clarke's for a birthday meal presented a mixed experience that left me questioning the value and service quality. Atmosphere and Setting The dining room at Clarke's is elegantly decorated, with light sage-colored walls, woven bistro chairs, and pristine white tablecloths, creating a comfortable and inviting ambiance. Paintings by renowned artists like Hockney and Freud adorn the walls, adding to the sophisticated yet homey feel. The table spacing was just right, ensuring a cozy but not cramped dining experience. However, the fair ambiance was overshadowed by a disappointing service encounter that set an unfortunate tone for the evening. Food and Presentation The menu at Clarke's features a blend of British and Mediterranean influences, celebrating seasonal ingredients with a simple, no-nonsense presentation. We started with Scottish smoked salmon with crème fraiche and rye toasts, and burrata with flat peach, pistachio nuts, and garden rocket. Both starters were fresh and flavorful, though unremarkable in presentation. For the main course, we had the roasted Scottish halibut fillet with datterini and red peppers, and the grilled Correze veal fillet with sage and broad beans. The halibut was well-cooked and complemented nicely by the wine we chose, a Sally Clarke Touraine Val de Loire Sauvignon Blanc. The veal fillet was tender and accompanied by perfectly steamed spinach and potato mash. We concluded our meal with a selection of British and Irish cheeses, affogato, Peche Melba, and Eton Mess. The desserts were enjoyable, particularly the Eton Mess, which offered a delightful mix of textures and flavors. Service Despite the pleasant setting and decent food, the service was a major letdown. The manager on duty rudely moved our plates to another table after they had been sitting on ours for just four minutes, without offering any apologies. This experience marred the evening and made it difficult to fully enjoy the meal. Value for Money Considering the high price point, the overall value for money at Clarke's was disappointing. The food quality and taste did not justify the cost, especially when coupled with the subpar service. While the restaurant has a storied history and many glowing reviews, my experience suggests that there are better dining options in London for the same price range. Conclusion Clarke's Nottinghill may have a long-standing reputation and a loyal customer base, but my recent visit did not live up to the expectations set by its history. The ambiance and food were satisfactory, but the poor service significantly detracted from the experience. Given the high prices, I find it unlikely that I will return to Clarke's, especially considering it was meant to be a special birthday meal.

With so many 5 star ratings and a price over £250 for 2, I had high expectations. Chosen with care I expected to go WOW sadly I didn't. The service was super efficient but they clucked over the regulars like a mother hen while not once where we even ask how was our day or why we were in London. Dining out is an experience sadly this aspect just came across as pretentious. My wife's starter of asparagus has a beautiful hollandaise sauce and my lobster was fine but a bit chewy. Both our mains of Chicken and Dover Sole were uninspiring with the blandest carrots we have tasted in a while. My cheese board had nice cheeses. The strawberries tasted beautiful but seriously a bowl of brown sugar and cream for £16 even in London. To be clear each course was fine but not once did I go that was amazing which is what I hoped for with so many 5 stars for me it was 3.5.

The ambience, from the moment you set foot through the door, to sitting down at a pristine white table-cloth, that first sip of a drink and the delicious dinner served by charming, discreet yet attentive staff, all combine to make contented memories. Seasonal ingredients - Jerusalem artichokes, venison - are offered with old favourites - halibut, souffle Suisse - and a well disposed wine list with expert advice at hand. The several rooms, with amazing works-of-art, were full and quietly buzzing with a variety of age groups on my week-day evening visit, which is so encouraging these days. Overrated! Big disappointment. The food is average quality, nothing exceptional. The menu is difficult to understand, we have been told that "first courses" were appetisers, but there was 65£ truffle tagliolini in the list. Nowhere in Italy you can find "pasta" as starter. The menu has no identity, a mixture of Italian and French tradition badly combined. Anyway, the service was the worst part of the visit. We could not held a conversation, because we were constantly interrupted by the waitress. We didn't even finish to eat and she was already taking plates away. It was Saturday night but the restaurant was half empty, so no rush to have the table back. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and they arrived directly in the glass from the kitchen, we didn't get chance to taste it and the wine was watered. No one came to the table to advise on wine either. For a restaurant that has Michelin starred prices, the service is nowhere close to be acceptable. I would not come back or suggest to visit this place.

I had dinner here a few months ago with some family and friends. The food is not cheap, so one would expect a certain level. Sadly many of us had steaks, and most had the same issue, the meat was so tough. Nobody complained at the time, as the meal was paid for by a kind family member, and the occasion meant it was not appropriate to mention to the person. However the issue was mentioned a day or two later to the venue, and they did not seem to believe our words. The service charge was refunded in the end, but the whole occasion was spoiled...and we still paid full price on the meals. No real apology was ever made. I would strongly advise against eating here.

My partner and I left London in 2006. We were used to going to dinner at Clark's very often. So after more than 15 years we went back, and what a pleasure to see that everything was perfect as before, the cuisine, the decoration and the staff. And cherry on the cake, one of the managers was still there, i was so happy to see him again. I really recommend !

Our booking was for 6.15pm and we arrived a few minutes early. The restaurant comprises an ante room just inside the entrance where there are a few tables and the main room to the left of this. When we arrived there was only one other table occupied and that was in the main room. We were shown to a table in the ante room initially and because the main room looked more inviting we asked to be seated there. This request was just about tolerated and we were shown to a table just beside where the serving staff enter the dining room from the kitchen - so a heavily trafficked location. Given that all other tables except one were free we asked for one of the other available tables. This request was acceded to with poor grace. So before the meal commenced we felt unwanted and uncomfortable. We've had the good fortune to have had a few meals in The Ledbury pre-Covid and level of hospitality we experienced there was exceptional. The contrast in the level of hospitality we experienced in Clarke's, even before we had a look at the menu, could not have been greater. Unfortunately matters did not improve with the food. My main course of halibut lacked flavour while my partner's chicken dish was reasonable. I had blackberries, rasberries and figs for dessert and that was exactly what I received - just the fruit on a plate, nothing else. The meal in general was extremely poor value for the prices charged. The quality of service, while attentive, can only be described as poor - dishes were served and plates removed in silence, no interaction to speak of. The only staff member who displayed any warmth was the most senior waiter who, when we mentioned our disappointment with our experience, did express regret. We did notice during the meal when the restaurant began to fill up that a lot of the guests seemed to be regulars and they were warmly received. It would seem that if you are not a regular here you do not merit

A warm welcome from the eponymous owner set the tone for such a happy dinner. Tables are not shoved together. The staff are thoughtful and gentle. The menu was not lengthy but offered an intriguing array of seasonal dishes. The wine list is intelligent and fairly priced with modest bottles as well as Mouton 2006 at £1,500. I yearn for Le Caprice and Bibendum before it was ‘ transformed’ ( sic). This was as good as it gets and I immediately booked a table for December when i got home. So professional but charming not clinical.

Sublime! A wonderful atmosphere . Exactly how a restaurant should be but rarely is. Intelligent wine list and the proprietor herself was running the show!

I hop into this restaurant by chance after shopping around Nottinghill. I did not notice it was a michelin restaurant until I wrote the review and it really justify the reputation. I took a 3 courses lunch. The salad is just amazing! Crispy greens, fresh apricots, caramelized walnuts, cottage cheese. The taste, texture and flavor of all ingredients compliment each other. Simple yet complex that demonstrated the true essence of farm to table dishes. The main course - pan fried chicken with grilled sweet corns and spinach was very nicely done as well. The dessert apple pie was chunky, puffy, soft and very fulfilling. Service was top notch.

As a fan of Sally Clarke's books and approach to food, I've wanted to go to Clarke's for a long time A real treat, the cooking was perfect, service excellent and there was enough mid-range wine to choose from (for those not wanting to spend 100s on wine!)

Amazing food. The staff was great. It is definitely quite expensive but for a reason. The clients are usually on the old side but it’s a must try in the neighbourhood.

Very small, fine hotel. Very British. Friendly and attentive staff. Delicious and extensive breakfast menu. Nice atmosphere for afternoon tea. It takes 15 minutes to walk to the two nearest subway stations. Busststion for this almost on the doorstep.

Every visit to this restaurant leaves me genuinely impressed by the creative mastery of the chef, the inspired selections from the sommelier, and the impeccable professionalism of the entire staff. Each member of the team strikes the perfect balance of warmth and expertise, making every guest feel welcome and well cared for. I recently dined here with a friend visiting from Italy—both of us passionate about good food—and we left feeling thoroughly delighted by the experience. This place is a gem for food enthusiasts seeking both innovation and quality, and it never disappoints. Highly recommended!

I had dinner here ordering their prix fixe menu with my partner. The wait staff are very nice and the food is tasty (though not extraordinary) and beautifully presented. In addition, there are a number of "free" amuse bouche items provided. However, the portion sizes from this menu are tiny. I'd say the portions are like tapas rather than a meal that will satisfy your hunger. But what really burnt my bunions was that when the bill arrived, it included a £1 charge for charity. I choose my own charities voluntarily and do not expect to be pickpocketed in a fancy, overpriced restaurant. If the owners want, they can donate to charity out of their pockets without imposing this on me with a sneaky addition to the bill. I believe it's inappropriate for a restaurant to sneak this on the bill, which would result in an embarrassing confrontation with the wait staff over it. I want to be asked to optoin rather than requiring me to opt-out. In addition, the bill had a 15% service charge, which, on top of their inflated prices and their £1 charity addition, really dented my wallet. A 12.5% service charge is the norm in London. 15% is ridiculous. There was no mention of the charity extortion or inflated service charge up front. No wonder they're closing the restaurant down. Even if they stayed open I'd never go back.
