City Place at night! The food here is fantastic!! Portions are huge and the food is cooked to perfection. The meat is sourced from the ginger pig and the whole meal is value for money. If you are thinking about giving it a try definitely do so and go hungry. You won’t be disappointed.

My husband and I enjoyed Brunch this morning. The staff are polite and friendly . Its a clean and welcoming place. Lovely garden at the back too. The food is really good. We enjoyed our meal, especially the Salt Beef . Plenty of vegan options too. We would gladly recommend City Place Wanstead to anyone wanting a hearty and delicious meal.

This place deserves 5 stars however 4 because of how expensive it is. This has really nice food options, appealing decor with a fast and friendly service. I have only visited here once however the two of us got a breakfast and coffee each, nothing too fancy and the price had come to just under £40.

Coffee is great and it's a nice chilled place to sit and chat. Cakes look gd and the sandwiches are very nice.

Love this place. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The outside space is lovely in the summer.

We are regulars at City Place during the day with its brilliant play area and fab coffees but this was our first time there for dinner. Absolutely delicious! The steak was cooked perfectly, the sauces rich and velvety and the side of Caesar salad was so good I could have had it as a main! Set menu was very reasonably priced with generous portions. Michael and Varun took great care of us and the twinkling lights and soft music was perfect for a rainy night. Michael recommended a great red and white to go with our meal and made us feel so relaxed and welcome. We will definitely be back, City Place at Night is exactly what Wanstead Highstreet was missing.

Love this place . Quality food (the best vegan breakfast) great coffee and excellent service. Lovely covered play area in the garden too. Highly recommend. Loving these vegan cinnamon buns and vanilla crowns. Just tried City Place @ night. What a lovely evening we had. Delicious food and great service. Recommend the rib eye steak and the baked cauliflower with the curry sauce . Reasonable priced too. Already booked for next week. Went in for drinks & snacks in the later evening on a Saturday night. Such a great place if you want to avoid noisy, packed pubs. The staff were super welcoming & accommodating. We really enjoyed our evening here & will absolutely be going back. Highly recommended.

Visited as apart of a large group. Very impressed with the service , food and overall experience. Nothing was too much trouble as we hadnt booked enough seats , not a problem even though very busy . I mostly go here of an evening on Thursday, Friday or Saturday when for 3 nights it turns into a Bar and Restaurant from 6pm onwards. The food is great and its a superb place to have a beer, cocktail or a wine. Its relaxed, friendly, great service and cheaper than the local pubs!!. Highly recommended for an evening drink on these days. If you've not been, you really should.

Fantastic experience for a wonderful steak dinner. They have just opened for evening meals and the whole expericene was brilliant. Friendly service, great food and also incredible value. We’d definitely go again.

We eat here regularly for brunch. The staff and food are exceptional. Decided to give the evening set meal (thur fri sat only) a go. It was superb. Gorgeous steak cooked to perfection. The pepper corn sauce the best I’ve ever had. It was a simple menu but more than adequate for us. Two choices for desert and I chose the brownie. It did not disappoint in any way. Michael was the host with the most. Knows his ‘stuff’ and very very knowledgeable. Well done everyone.

Great visit to City Place on Friday night. Excellent and very attentive service (really helpful bearded ginger guy, didn’t catch his name) which really made the experience! Food was delicious and such good value - only £29.95 for three courses with a generous sized fillet steak as a main (cooked to perfection). Will definitely return. Nice to see a local business offering something different.

Don't know what was going on today. Served me a coffee and then waited 30 minutes for a bagel and nothing turned up. Would have been good if someone told me there was an issue.

I like City Place usually, but yes a but, it is fine if I go in with other people, but like today I visited just wanting a coffee, greeted with a smile and I sat down, it was pointed out to a member of staff I was waiting, who then walked away, I waited and waited no one could be bothered to serve - despite indicating I wished to order, just as I was going out of the door I was asked, "would you like a menu" I replied no thank you I'm just leaving, this is not the first time this has happened and I know of other people who have experienced the same thing, if they prefer not to have people visiting on their own put a poster in the window, singletons not served

We had a fantastic evening with friends at City Place. We absolutely loved the idea of their limited set menu with steak, chicken and vegetarian as the options for the mains. No messing about. The food, wine and service were outstanding. There was something really different about eating at City Place compared to all the other venues in Wanstead. Loved it.

Great place for lunch, hearty menu with wide range of options. Highlight was salt beef beigal and croque monsiuer. Service was so fast despite being really full. Friendly atmosphere for families especially kids. Will be back for lunch again and to try the cakes.

Had an evening meal here. Three course set meal. Garlic bread to start, ribeye steak for a main with crispy fries and a brownie with ice cream to finish. All was very delicious although I do prefer a fruit flan as a desert. The restaurant is spacious and the manager Michael was very accommodating and helpful, he explained the wine list and had excellent knowledge. This place is well worth a visit.

Michael has been a fantastic waiter/host. He is a consumate professional - polite, warm & friendly and his extensive knowledge is nothing short of 5 stars. I thoroughly recommend visiting City Place! The food is absolutely delicious & worth trying the Coronation Chicken panini. They also have an evening menu with tasty options and very reasonably priced for 2 courses. Lastly the ambience is so welcoming and adds to the relaxed vibe.

Such a lovely meal here last night. Really good quality steak and chicken, cooked to perfection. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, comfy seats and great lighting. Staff super nice and helpful. The menu is simple but so well done. Garlic bread, side salad AND dessert all included in the very reasonable price. Will definitely be going back. Highly recommended.

I don't usually leave reviews, but I had to share my amazing experience at City Place on Thursday night. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The service was exceptional—my waiter was attentive and kept my glass full all evening. The food was nothing short of 5-star; I had one of the best steaks I've ever tasted. If you're looking for a great night out with delicious food, top-notch cocktails, and unbeatable service, City Place is the place to be. We tried the City Place Late and had a wonderful time. Loved both steak and cauliflower mains, and the eclairs were to die for. Lovely staff (as you'd expect, since they're like that in the day too), good service.

A Hidden Gem for Food Lovers! We recently dined at The City Place at Night and are already looking forward to our next visit! From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. I ordered the steak and frites with béarnaise sauce, and it was perfection on a plate. The steak was cooked exactly to my liking (medium) and had a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. The frites were golden and crisp, with just the right amount of seasoning. The béarnaise sauce was silky and elevated the whole dish. My partner had the Rib Eye (medium rare) with peppercorn sauce which he thoroughly enjoyed. For dessert, I tried their gluten-free vegan chocolate brownie with vegan ice cream, and wow! The brownie was rich, fudgy, and decadent, and the ice cream was creamy with a perfect balance of sweetness. It’s amazing to find a place that caters so well to dietary needs without compromising on flavour. My partner had the profiteroles just the right amount to end the meal not too heavy The service was warm and attentive, and the cosy atmosphere made it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal. If you’re looking for high-quality food made with care and passion, The City Place at Night is a must-visit.

All a but middling here, food is OK, service is OK and atmosphere is just busy. Nothing sticks out as good or bad but if you want a quick bite it does what it's supposed to.

Had lunch here after a walk. The surrounding area is nice.

I have recently moved to Wanstead and this has already become my favourite cafe! Coffee was great and the veggie breakfast one of the best I have ever had. Staff is lovely and the atmosphere is immaculate.

We just got back from a wonderful brunch here. The food was fantastic and the service was so friendly, even though the place was really busy we were not rushed at all. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

The service was lovely. Staff were friendly and welcoming, however, the food itself was a bit disappointing - the poached eggs were cold and the muffin was a bit underwhelming and plain: not good value for money as an overall dish.

Another fantastic meal at City Place! I had the Croque monsieur and coleslaw again - absolutely delicious! It is a cheese-lovers dream and I love that the coleslaw is homemade! Great service, as usual and the coffee is just divine ( my Australian husband won't go anywhere else)!

I recently visited this café and was extremely disappointed. From the moment I walked in, the staff were rude and unhelpful, which set a negative tone for the visit. I ordered a salmon sandwich for £13.95 and was shocked by the lack of quality—it was literally just bread and salmon, with no effort to add flavor or anything to justify the high price. I've had better tasting salmon sandwiches from Tesco, and I’m not even a fan of pre-packed sandwiches! To top it off, I regretted not going to Starbucks for a panini, which would’ve been much better, both in terms of flavor and value for money. After spending £27 overall, I left feeling completely ripped off. I won’t be coming back, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. You’re better off with a Tesco meal deal!

First visit yesterday for a salt beef bagel (hubby) and tuna melt panini (me); both very good. Returned today to sample the rotisserie chicken lunch (gorgeous corn fed chicken with fries, gravy and homemade coleslaw). Was all delicious, would highly recommend. Very roomy and comfy interior, owners very friendly, exceptional service from the 2 young waitresses and great value. Dogs welcome too, such a treat, definitely worth a visit. We’ll be back.

I’ve been meaning to leave a review since I went to City Place a few weeks ago because it is not often you find a family run cafe like this anymore. There are so many chains now, but it’s such a lovely cafe. As busy working mums this is a great place to get together with the kids. Toys and play area outside, books and colouring inside. Great options for kids on the menu and the food for us was delicious too.. the truffle chicken panini is SO good.

Let's start with my salt beef on rye sandwich. I wouldn't say there was a "huge amount of salt beef". If anyone's had a salt beef beigel from Brick Lane, that's what I'd expect beef to bread ratio as feeling like a huge amount. Sadly, there wasn't a lot of rye to my sandwich and it was dry. I'd rate my sandwich a 5.5/10. The slaw was a 7/10. My husband's milk shake made him "very angry". "At £5.95 I'm expecting a good milk shake, not flavoured milk which cost £1". I concur, it was very watery and not very chocolate tasting. The full English breakfast was rated a "sub 5/10". He liked the mushrooms, the bread was very well done (not a compliment) and cold, the butter didn't melt when spread. Overall, it wasn't hot or cold and said that the plate was sitting there for a while before being served. His final comment "can we not come back here, please?" My husband went to pay as he was going to use the facilities. Whilst I was finishing eating my sandwich the guy was clearing our table. Just a tip, wait till a person has finished eating and drinking before clearing the table! All in all, we were quite disappointed with our first and last visit here and will not be returning.

As a repeat customer of City Place, I am deeply disappointed with the recent decline in the quality of the food and beverages. The ham and cheese toast was extremely salty, and the panini was overcooked. This time, the mocha I ordered lacked any discernible coffee flavor, which was quite surprising. To make matters worse, I was asked if I knew what a mocha is, which I found to be quite ridiculous and insulting. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving the quality and customer service.

We have been to City Place a few times and hot food always seems to be cold by the time you are halfway through your meal/breakfast because the plates are cold. They have recently added a salad bowl to the menu, which was a really good salad.

Not great at all. Ordered the eggs florentine and the eggs were overdone and hard inside and the spinach was definitely frozen and fell apart… sub standard meal. Not good quality at all.

The service was good and the food was nice, but I paid £15 for a tuna panini and an iced coffee, and I feel like thats way too much for what it was. It’s a shame because I do like this place!

Some menu items are very good, others far too salty. Service was slow & some staff seemed harassed, others seemed more concerned with entertaining rather than serving (even when food is waiting at the pass). Coffee was very good.
