Live in the borough. I thought this was a cafe?Turns out , it's a bistro, very well run, and a fantastic place.It's my new holding Count place.!

City Place is a favourite of mine, a great atmosphere, and run and staffed by really friendly people. Love the food and the coffee is great. Highly recommended.

All a but middling here, food is OK, service is OK and atmosphere is just busy. Nothing sticks out as good or bad but if you want a quick bite it does what it's supposed to.

Love this place . Quality food (the best vegan breakfast) great coffee and excellent service. Lovely covered play area in the garden too. Highly recommend. Loving these vegan cinnamon buns and vanilla crowns.

Had lunch here after a walk. The surrounding area is nice.

The food and coffee are delicious, and the atmosphere is nice, but the service is very slow. So be patient if you plan to eat here ☺️

I have recently moved to Wanstead and this has already become my favourite cafe! Coffee was great and the veggie breakfast one of the best I have ever had. Staff is lovely and the atmosphere is immaculate.

We just got back from a wonderful brunch here. The food was fantastic and the service was so friendly, even though the place was really busy we were not rushed at all. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

One of my favourite cafés. Absolutely delicious and varied menu, super friendly staff and a great place for young children with the outdoor seating and play space.

The service was lovely. Staff were friendly and welcoming, however, the food itself was a bit disappointing - the poached eggs were cold and the muffin was a bit underwhelming and plain: not good value for money as an overall dish.

Another fantastic meal at City Place! I had the Croque monsieur and coleslaw again - absolutely delicious! It is a cheese-lovers dream and I love that the coleslaw is homemade! Great service, as usual and the coffee is just divine ( my Australian husband won't go anywhere else)!

I recently visited this café and was extremely disappointed. From the moment I walked in, the staff were rude and unhelpful, which set a negative tone for the visit. I ordered a salmon sandwich for £13.95 and was shocked by the lack of quality—it was literally just bread and salmon, with no effort to add flavor or anything to justify the high price. I've had better tasting salmon sandwiches from Tesco, and I’m not even a fan of pre-packed sandwiches! To top it off, I regretted not going to Starbucks for a panini, which would’ve been much better, both in terms of flavor and value for money. After spending £27 overall, I left feeling completely ripped off. I won’t be coming back, and I certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. You’re better off with a Tesco meal deal!

First visit yesterday for a salt beef bagel (hubby) and tuna melt panini (me); both very good. Returned today to sample the rotisserie chicken lunch (gorgeous corn fed chicken with fries, gravy and homemade coleslaw). Was all delicious, would highly recommend. Very roomy and comfy interior, owners very friendly, exceptional service from the 2 young waitresses and great value. Dogs welcome too, such a treat, definitely worth a visit. We’ll be back.

I’ve been meaning to leave a review since I went to City Place a few weeks ago because it is not often you find a family run cafe like this anymore. There are so many chains now, but it’s such a lovely cafe. As busy working mums this is a great place to get together with the kids. Toys and play area outside, books and colouring inside. Great options for kids on the menu and the food for us was delicious too.. the truffle chicken panini is SO good.

Let's start with my salt beef on rye sandwich. I wouldn't say there was a "huge amount of salt beef". If anyone's had a salt beef beigel from Brick Lane, that's what I'd expect beef to bread ratio as feeling like a huge amount. Sadly, there wasn't a lot of rye to my sandwich and it was dry. I'd rate my sandwich a 5.5/10. The slaw was a 7/10. My husband's milk shake made him "very angry". "At £5.95 I'm expecting a good milk shake, not flavoured milk which cost £1". I concur, it was very watery and not very chocolate tasting. The full English breakfast was rated a "sub 5/10". He liked the mushrooms, the bread was very well done (not a compliment) and cold, the butter didn't melt when spread. Overall, it wasn't hot or cold and said that the plate was sitting there for a while before being served. His final comment "can we not come back here, please?" My husband went to pay as he was going to use the facilities. Whilst I was finishing eating my sandwich the guy was clearing our table. Just a tip, wait till a person has finished eating and drinking before clearing the table! All in all, we were quite disappointed with our first and last visit here and will not be returning.

As a repeat customer of City Place, I am deeply disappointed with the recent decline in the quality of the food and beverages. The ham and cheese toast was extremely salty, and the panini was overcooked. This time, the mocha I ordered lacked any discernible coffee flavor, which was quite surprising. To make matters worse, I was asked if I knew what a mocha is, which I found to be quite ridiculous and insulting. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving the quality and customer service.

We have been to City Place a few times and hot food always seems to be cold by the time you are halfway through your meal/breakfast because the plates are cold. They have recently added a salad bowl to the menu, which was a really good salad.

Not great at all. Ordered the eggs florentine and the eggs were overdone and hard inside and the spinach was definitely frozen and fell apart… sub standard meal. Not good quality at all.

The service was good and the food was nice, but I paid £15 for a tuna panini and an iced coffee, and I feel like thats way too much for what it was. It’s a shame because I do like this place!

Couldn’t ask for a better cafe. Attentive team, who actually care. The menu is extensive offering a massive offering for vegetarians and vegans. I have never left unhappy and couldn’t recommend more.

First time I’ve been to City Place, service and food was great will definitely be coming back.

Some menu items are very good, others far too salty. Service was slow & some staff seemed harassed, others seemed more concerned with entertaining rather than serving (even when food is waiting at the pass). Coffee was very good.

Good cafe on Wanstead high street. Savoury food is good, I find some of the cakes and pastries a bit dry. Decent coffee and nice tables.

Had friends over for the weekend. Went on two days for brunch - FANTASTIC. Food was delicious and the service impeccable - meeting all our individual requirements to a tee. One of my favourites in an overcrowded cafe market in Wanstead.

Very good spot especially with kids with the indoor outdoor space a kid zone. A bit disappointed by my poached egg that was simply overcooked.

Good service, lovely fresh food (had the salmon bagel), nice coffee. Could do with a pushchair/buggy park outside, so many customers bringing them inside. May22, continued great service, attentive staff, fantastic food on a varied menu, and they are expanding the premises to include next door! No wonder it's still very popular with all ages, particularly the pushchair generation. Feb23. They have expanded to two shop sizes, still got outdoor area, but more indoor seating. Can be a bit loud/echoing at times, but still excellent food and very good service. April 23. Beautiful spring day, thought I would sit out in the back courtyard. Very busy with mothers and toddlers, so if you can tolerate the noise of crying and toys crashing and the occasional one trying to escape then you'll be fine. Once again, the food was excellent (bacon & egg brioche), the coffee strong but smooth (they do use a very good make) and the service was polite, expedient and exemplary. Thank you again City Place. July 23 The 'Eastender' bagel is superb. Once again, great service, great food. Thank you, guys and ladies. Sept 23. Same great service, great food, nice atmosphere. 10/10. Feb 24. A wet Fri afternoon, so all the young mums and the ankle biters are inside. I'm hoping the management can buy another shop next door and create the family room it needs. The outdoor space works well in the fine weather though. If you can tolerate the other clientele then it's entertaining to watch the little people either trying to escape or help themselves to their favourite juice off the shelf. It is a very diverse and welcoming environment and great food and service on top of that. The local online bookshop shelf is good also.

We've been here for the first time for lunch - unfortunately we had the worst English breakfast in UK - something that was clearly cooked in advance and just warmed up, with cheap ingredients and just so bland. Same for the so called schnitzel, something that you would have in the fridge from the previous days and warm up...disappointing from a place that somehow ended up on Wanstead High Street. Not sure why the place if packed on the weekends, maybe they actually cook the food on those days, but for us it was a Thursday. Or cause it's a bit cheaper than others and that's what brits like before anything else.

We come here often and always have a great time. Service is brilliant and the kids area is a dream. Food is always to a very high standard and I never find coffee as food anywhere else! I look forward to sunny days in the garden.

I took my mother today, her Birthday, along with a friend. I was having problems parking the car when I came in to meet them, they had been served, my mum had a plate of fries with peelings on some of them and 2 revolting fried eggs with oil on top soft yoke and hard brown burnt underside. She was not able to eat the food and I asked for it to be taken away and not to be charged. I complained and apparently, I believe the owner said he thought there wasn't anything wrong with the eggs!!! I told his wife, whom I believe agreed with him. There was no apology. I had a scone, clotted cream jam and a pot of tea. My mum's friend had egg(similar to my mum's), ham, chips she ate all the meal as she was very hungry. 2 pots of tea, scone with clotted cream which was runny and jam. My mum had scone with clotted cream and jam and 2 white wines. The bill was £56.77. I can assure the owners of City Place they wont be getting any more of my money ever again.

Very nice and family friendly place. We stopped for a quick drink and catch up. I was surprised to see the children area. It 's such a good idea and good selection of toys. Staff are friendly and the service was fast.

Nice independent coffee shop on Wanstead High Street. However, it is a coffee shop with a wide-ranging menu for breakfast and lunch. We had lunch and I enjoyed the Chicken Snitzel with fries (extra). Average prices. The staff were friendly. Outdoor seating on the high street and out back in a “beer” garden. Clean and pleasant interior. Toilet facilities untested. Parking near by.

Lovely place we discovered and best of all they’re doggy friendly. We sat at the front outside, there were plenty of seats and a canopy (luckily there was as it rained for about 10seconds). We ordered 2 bagels and a coffee and came up to £25. Friendly staff and a good selection of brunch available.

Food is ok but the staff make it great. I think it may have been one of the owners but the man who served us was a lovely person and very helpful.

This was my second visit to the place, and unfortunately, the customer service wasn't up to par this time. The two lady waitresses seemed disinterested and not attentive compared to my previous experience. The first visit in the garden had speedy and helpful service, even on a busier weekend. The second time, however, was quieter and less efficient. The food was decent, but not outstanding. We tried the Christmas menu with the chicken stuffing brioche burger and the chicken and gravy brioche. The latter was the standout with tasty, juicy chicken, while the stuffing in the burger was a bit dry and needed more cranberry sauce. For drinks, we ordered a hot tea and gingerbread coffee, but despite requesting extra hot coffee, it arrived lukewarm. Getting the attention of the waitresses was a challenge, and we had to approach the coffee counter ourselves. The total bill came to around £30 for four items, which felt steep. Despite the lovely setup and convenient location near Wanstead station, the service and value may deter us from returning soon. Perhaps a third visit could be a charm. On a positive note, the cafe offers a nice variety of foods, including Brick Lane bagels, and features a great kids' area with ample seating. The staff, in general, are polite and patient.

Staff are always fantastic, last time we were in my son spilled his hot chocolate everywhere but the staff cleaned it quickly and without complaint. Nothing is too much trouble.

As always, it was very busy this morning but the service was very good nonetheless and the amount of customers made for a very buzzy atmosphere. We had the full breakfasts (veggie for my sister and meat for me). The quality of the food is very high which, for me, makes it good value for money. I need to visit for lunch next time as the lunches at the table next to us looked lush!

Me and my friend went here for lunch today and it was terrible. The service was bad, including the manager after I told him we wasn’t happy with the food because mine looked like a kids sandwich which he could barely understand and there was not even an apology, and just said ‘this is the standard we serve our food at’. I asked for a discount at least and he said yes but came back with the receipt to just find the cheapest thing on the menu, a coffee had been taken off. I ate half of my food because he wouldn’t take it off the bill otherwise I would have been paying to eat absolutely nothing and my friend didn’t eat hers at all. They also told me there was no salad to then put salad leaves on my friends plate…like how much worse can it get. Avoid this place if you like decent food!

City Place always delicious with excellent service and such good value! The play area is great idea for younger children.

First time going for and enjoyed the food! We sat outside in their courtyard which was well laid out and they had alternative options if you didn’t want to sit directly in the sun. They also had a section for kids to play. The food was great as well as the service. The waitress was thorough and double checked allergy information for the ice cream as we wanted coffee milkshakes. Would definitely go back again!
