Cibo in East Hertfordshire

We arrived slightly late. It was not a problem. The restaurant was full . Always a good sign. Surprisingly spaghetti bolognese was not on the reassuringly short menu but it was not a problem for this restaurant. They made it by request. Great food. It came from kitchen to table almost immediately. The best parmigiana I've tasted . Wines also very good to suit all pockets. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had a beautiful meal on Saturday 23rd December a wonderful start to our Christmas. Great service and we will definitely be back!

We visit when in need of an Italian,or do I mean Sicilian meal? We asked for a particular table, not a problem. We arrived early, not a problem. My wife needs gf food, not a problem. The quality of the food matches the Service. The gluten free pasta tasted as normal and everything was tasty. The pasta sauce delicate but delicious and the salmon soft and yummy. The 'profiteroles were naughty but it's Xmas! My wife usually drinks Chardonnay grapes wine i.e. champagne. Thankfully the house white was more affordable and caused no reaction other than disappointment at not being spoilt as she would have wished. She also agreed it was good value.

I have visited with my family and the experience was dreadful. I was surprised. The first visit was when the restaurant had opened. The experience was very different. Why was this experience so dreadful? The base of our pizza was thoroughly burnt. One pizza simply did not arrive. . I appreciate that they were offering to make us a very quick pizza. However we were out of time. When it came to leaving, there was no apology for the state of the pizzas. It’s a shame there was so little to get wrong.

We had booked a table here for 4 on Saturday night for 7:30. Phoned to confirm at 2pm and they then said they could no longer accommodate us at 7:30 but could come at 8:30pm. Have visited before but won't be going back. Terrible service.

We've been here couple of times, always excellent food and service. Mr Franco is our favourite one, kind, keen on customer service we basically love him. My partner would recommend every type of pizza they have, he loves it, I'd recommend Parmigiana! All the staff is really nice and welcoming with everyone and they always try to make the customer happy! Really recommended If you love food!

Bland lukewarm food. No seasoning used. ( I have read that another reviewer has said this too) . I'm not sure my food even matched the description. My husband and I tried each others food. Tasteless. Garlic bread was nice. Water glasses were on the table but no water was offered. Oil , pepper and parmesan was never offered. I got up and got my own. Restaurant was also always cold from the draft caused by the door never fully closing. Not a great experience. Definitely would not go again.

First time trying Cibo The pizzas were really good. Fresh well cooked dough and tasty toppings. The interior is also nice and modern We were really disappointed with our bread starter. We ordered ricotta and bread which cost £8.95 and what came was 2 small pieces of bread, 2 small breadsticks and a small pot of ricotta. For nearly £10 you’d expect a way bigger portion - such a rip off Service was ok, felt rushed at times and when we ordered wine they just dumped the bottle on the table without offering to pour The restaurant was also freezing inside Probably won’t return but it’s a shame because the pizzas were great

Without a booking, we were given a table of 8 which is was great. We were seated immediately. The service was quick and attentive with us getting drinks within 5 minutes of sitting down. I had the ravioli (vegetarian) which was fresh and delicious. Pizzas were also very good according to the rest of the group. One negative is that the restaurant is expensive but the food is certainly worth the money. The owners and staff are really nice as well.

We visited on a Saturday evening, our first time here as we usually go elsewhere - we were left wishing we had. Had to wait 10 mins for our table despite having a booking, once seated we waited 15 mins for a menu then another 15mins for someone to take our order. We discussed leaving but we were hungry. Food very slow to arrive the water we requested never arrived. Our sides were incorrect and the waiter asked us if we'd changed our mind - no you got our order wrong. The worst service we've had in a long time. Staff disinterested and more worried about getting deliveroo and Uber eats orders out (or chatting amongst themselves) - this clearly was why we were neglected as they were too busy on the takeaway side. Pizza was good as was the arancini however the truffle chips were clearly frozen and not great. Ravioli was dry and disappointing - we won't return.

Firstly, no complaints about our food. Generous portions and both the Chicken and Pasta dishes excellently cooked. Our first meal her ever was on a Valentine's Day 8 years ago. What a difference. Then a singer, now just the usual menu with disinterested waiters. Service was slow, 2 reminders for some water, until we settled the bill. Then our table was being cleared before we could put our coats on. Such a disappointment.

Lovely place - best Italian food in Bishop’s Stortford. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, the vibe in there is great!

Food cooked well but I feel its over priced for what it is. No veg served with the salmon dish or offered as an extra. Big bowl of Roast potatoes over salted for my taste. Ice cream (Geleto) tasted like I was eating ice cream with sand in it flavour was great didn't finish it because of the grittyness. Not all dishes came out at the same time (9 of us) so I feel they struggle to serve larger party's at the same. Or was it because they were doing takeaways at the same time ? But we as a group wait till all dishes were in front of us then all eat together and this led to some of the dishes being cold. Shame as it looks good

This restaurant is absolutely amazing, my husband and I have been a few times and it never disappoints, staff are friendly and service fabulous. The dishes are so fresh, truffle chips and the wild boar pasta are a must!!! Thank you x x

Cibo has never failed to deliver - I hadn't been for nearly 2 years but it was still great - family run restaurant that really still cares!!

Fell upon Cibo, a small independent restaurant. Vibrant atmosphere, all tables full bar the last one which we were lucky to bag. Small but perfectly formed menu. I had chicken masala which was delicious. Staff friendly and engaging. Gorgeous meal!

The place is definitely the best in town Staff is super nice and friendly, and as an Italian I can guarantee that the food is the best you can have!! I feel quite sorry for Lynne 4x4. She must never have been to Italy in her life. Cibo offers the very best of the most traditional and rustic food from Italy. My only regret is that I can’t get there as often as I would like! Ignore a misinformed critic: make your own mind up! Ciao.

The food was over priced and was very very poor quality. Five prawns with dry toast as a starter. Dry pasta as main course. The desert was awful, crusty dry donuts, this was pointed out to the waitress and she said I was wrong, end of discussion. The service was indifferent. A restaurant that we had previously visited and really liked. One to avoid now.

I visited Cibo to catch up with three close friends last night and I'd like to point out that we are an extremely unfussy group of diners.The staff seemed pleasant at first but it went downhill fairly rapidly. It was particularly difficult to get hold of anyone's attention throughout the meal and it started with attempting to order drink top ups. When you did manage to flag someone over we only managed to get one drink order out before they swiftly walked away without allowing the rest of the table to speak. There was no chance for any back and forth dialogue. Frankly, if one person orders a drink and the waiter can see that the rest of the diners on the table have empties the staff should be asking if anyone else needs anything. That is basic service, right?The starters sounded promising and actually tasted pretty nice but they were cold. It seemed as if they had been sitting around for a while as opposed to freshly plated. When you order deep fried mozzarella in tomato sauce it eats rather unpleasant when tepid. The garlic bread was inedible, it was absolutely covered in raw garlic and would have blown the head off any garlic lover! Being unfussy diners as I mentioned we didn't send any starters back or even alert the staff. We thought we'd give them a chance to redeem themselves with the ret of the meal but then again when they collected the plates they didn't ask how the food was nor at any point during our dining experience. Again, they gave no chance for any dialogue. They made a point of avoiding eye contact and seemed to be running around a little too much considering the small number of tables they have.Anyway, we were more hopeful for the mains and again, the food wasn't bad, it was slightly warmer but not hot. My friend ordered a bolognaise that was slopped in the bowl rather unappetizingly and was not offered any parmesan cheese or cheese of any kind. In fact, there was no offer of pepper or cheese for anyone's dish.We eventually managed to flag someone over and politely asked for the cheese and some chilli oil for her bolognaise. The waiter immediately responded "Is there anything else I can get you whilst I'm up? I don't want to leave and then you ask for something else". Now I can appreciate some light hearted fun but considering the service had been so poor this comment was rather rude and also completely inaccurate because we had kept our lips sealed shut throughout the meal with regards to feedback/requests. It was also the only communication we had received throughout the entire meal and therefore the attitude was not welcomed. The comment was made with attitude and intent to offend, that much was clear.The oil was bought over and the bottles were dirty and extremely unappealing. There were some suspicious looking floating particles that did not look fresh!We realised halfway through our meal that they had not brought over our truffle chips to share that we had ordered at the beginning. We admitted we were rather glad that they had obviously forgotten. After three guests had finished their meals and put their cutlery down the chips came out. There was no acknowledgement that they were late, actually the waiter said nothing. He tried to drop the bowl on the table so quickly he probably didn't take any notice of the fact that we were finished.I finally spoke up and said "sorry it's a bit late we've finished" and unbelievably his response was to sigh and shrug his shoulders before storming off with the bowl of chips. I do not understand what we did to rub them up the wrong way but I feel certain that our manners were far superior to theirs throughout the evening. They left our dirty plates in front of us for quite some time until I managed to catch someone's attention to gesture for the bill. We will certainly not be returning to be treated like this again.It is a shame because the establishment is obviously popular from the rest of the reviews. We must have caught them in a bad mood and I expected a lot better.

Wow!! Never been to Cibo before, but we hope to visit again.Three of us chose Bishops Stortford as a central point to meet up for a pre-Christmas get together. Cibo was chosen after reading the positive reviews.What a great place and a great menu!The food was on point. We all chose something different for starters, mains and desserts. Typical of us, we all dibbed in to taste each other’s choice. Superb!If we meet again in Bishops Stortford, we’ll definitely be visiting Cibo for dinner.

Enjoyed the pizza and pasta but boy, do they need to learn how to make a decent tiramisu. It tasted as if it was just cream and a bit of sponge. Where was the coffee liqueur and mascapone? I would have rated the restaurant 4* but for this.

We went as a family last night for my boyfriends birthday and it was spectacular!! The ambiance was lovely, food was outstanding and the service was perfect! We already can’t wait to go back!! Try the wild boar tortellini it’s lush!! Thank you Cibo for making my boyfriends birthday special xx

The food was so delicious I couldn’t stop myself eating.. I ate the Wild boar filled, creamy Sicilian sausage ragu with porcini mushrooms.. it was out of this world. I wish I could remember the name of the red wine (3rd one down on the menu) it was delicious. The service was great. Very friendly, helpful and patient (my friend had a thousand questions). Oh I nearly forgot the truffle chips.. mouth watering! I really didn’t have room for them but I couldn’t leave them!

4 of us went to Cibo for the first time last night and we were all really impressed, it is definitely my favourite restaurant in Stortford! The food was really great Italian food, we had 4 different starters and 4 different pastas and we loved them all. The pistachio pesto was a highlight. We also had some cocktails, a lovely bottle of red and some desserts. It was really great value for money and they service was spot on. We will be back again soon.

We had a lovely meal this weekend. The couldn’t do enough for us. The lasagne and truffle pasta was to die for. Very fresh calamari. Lovely pizza garlic bread and they specially made me a smaller antipasto platter for one. Ice cream was amazing too. They also let us have a table near the door so we could bring our little dog who sat quietly under the table. Can’t wait to come back to try some other dishes.

Another great meal at this family run restaurant. Seated quickly drinks order taken and brought before two of the party returned from car park in a hurry! Food order for starters taken and and not disappointed, Bocconcini in Carrozza, Pizzetta Con Caponata and Ravioli Zucca all wonderful. Mains of spaghetti Alla Puttanesca, Pizzas of Marguerite large and small and Merluzzo. You could not fault and of these very good fish dish and home made Pizzas. Service good until we over heard the man in charge say we need these gone by 7.30 at 7.15 when we had been waiting for the to take our dessert for 20 minutes. The wait was possibly caused bar the number of Deliveroo personal coming in to collect orders at the entrance area ( social distance at this point?). The deserts of Canolo Siciliano and drinks were good lucky the children loved them and soon eaten. Good restaurant maybe they should find a different way of serving the takeaway Deliveroo orders.

We go to Cibo several times a month and either sit in or have a takeaway - cosy decor and a relaxed atmosphere along with friendly staff all add together to make it one of our favourite restaurants. The food is delicious and our favourite dishes include the meatballs starter and tomato & cheese pasta main (pictured) (they have fancy Italian names which I can pronounce!) Also deserving of credit is the banoffee pie we had on our last visit - homemade and a very generous serving size it was a joy to eat.

Had an amazing lunch here today, we had a mix of dishes off the menu which came out piping hot and quick! Apparently the pizzas were the best one of us had ever had - I clearly didn’t get a look in! Staff were lovely, will definitely be going back

just had really lovely evening at Cibo, the food was really lovely & the pasta was cooked properly, my partner said it was the best pizza he had in ages, the staff where reallg lovely & so friendly we will definitely be going back to Cibo.

The food here is consistently excellent. We have eaten here on numerous occasions and can honestly say that we've never had a bad meal. Nonna's meatballs are a particular favourite as a starter but we have to share as the portions are so large. The pizzas are top notch as are the pasta dishes, as you would expect from an authentic Italian establishment. A firm favourite

Shocking!! Didn't even mention our anniversary or anything, totally ruined it for us, husband's swordfish was as tough as a pork chop, too close to the table next to us, wouldn't ever go back

Went for a last minute lunch with my partner & son...they found a table for me despite I didn’t book a table. The service delivered was excellent and the foot was genuinely 100% Italian. Giuseppe, the host/owner was great and the team let us feel at home. Definitely recommend to locals or people from nearby towns...please go and visit Cibo...you so t regret it!

I will say first off that we have eaten here many times before and never had to send food back or complain....tonight was very different. Two pizzas ordered and one arrived with the egg white still raw. It was taken back with no issue and put back in the over but was still very soggy and raw on it's return. The other pizza had pancetta on and this was very thick and grey looking. I questioned this and was then intimidated (and I mean that in the true sense of the word) by another waiter who thought he was being clever in bringing out a raw piece of meat that looked very different to what was on the pizza to show me and arguing that the meat was fine. Instead of trying to resolve he was argumentative and there was no apology or even politeness. His tone and attitude were appalling and he was very rude. We asked to speak to the manager and were told he was not in, so we asked for his name but the waiter would not give it to us. The waiter then said he had spoken to him and we could just go and turned his back on us! He was asked for his own name and asked us why we wanted it. He had to be pushed for a name but tbh we don't believe he gave his real name. This scene also conducted in front of another couple who had just arrived and sat down and they were clearly appalled at what they heard and discussed it with us afterwards....as I say, customer service was not at it's best. I am not sure if they were having a bad night but the table next to us had also sent their food back as it was not cooked properly.

I’m originally from Italy and went there with my German partner. We both very much enjoyed the food.The atmosphere and the quality of the food made me feel like if I was at HOME.Very friendly staff and adequate pricing.We definitely will be back!

Everything about Cibo is excellent.. food is incredible, the mushroom tagliatelle AMAZING, service is super fast even though there is usually 1 or 2 people serving, the owners are lovely, really good value for money. The restaurant is romantic but also perfect for dinner with friends. I feel like I’m on holiday when I eat in this restaurant. I always have an amazing time and can’t wait to visit again.

A lovely, warm restaurant selling tasty, honest food, which always has interesting Sicilian surprises. Tellingly enough, it's very popular with Stortford's Italian populace.

So disappointed! Not being from this area I googled vegan restaurants, this one looked promising so I booked! Looked at the menu, literally nothing vegan. Spoke to the waiter, he said new vegan menu next week, looked at that. Basically pasta dishes with dairy & meat removed without any plant based alternatives! We both had puttanesca which was nice but not even the offer of vegan Parmesan? it’s not rocket science!No one asked if our food was ok, desert menu brought but not one vegan option!Very very disappointed! If they are offering vegan food they really should know what they are doing! You can’t just remove animal products from the dish without adding plant based alternatives!What a shame!

Authentic Italian staff, fantastic food cooked onsite and wonderful atmosphere. Relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable experience. My friend and I met for a catch up and lunch - we don't know the town but were blessed to have stumbled across this eatery.

I have eaten at Cibo on about 10 different occasions and every single time it has been just perfect! From the amazing service to the quality of food, I fall in love again every time!! I get super excited every time I know I'm coming back :) highly recommended!!

Cibo is definitely our favorite restaurant in town! The food is perfect, best pasta and the specials are always amazing! Their Sicilian background is imprinted on their dishes and on the decor of the restaurant. With a great wine and cocktails list it is the best destination for a family and friends gathering. The service is always spotless but with the feeling that you are at home! On Fridays I suggest you call and book your table as they are always very busy.

My favourite place to eat in BS, food is amazing and traditional Italian. The new look inside really makes you feel like you could eating in Sicily. Highly recommend Cibo for anyone looking to dine out or for a quick snack whilst in Stortford.

I visited with a group of friends on a Thursday evening this independant Italian restaurant, and it was packed and I am not surprised. Its cosy, in the heart of the town and close to a multistory carpark. The staff were very friendly and professional and the menu was interesting offering a good selection of dishes. The tea was served in a teapot rather than a teabag floating in a cup. We all agreed that our food was so good with generous size portions. All of the group who had deserts which were also generous in portion, reported that they were absolutely delicous too.

I am here on my own a few months back and had a few continental breakfast bits, food and coffee was of a good standard. Placing is relaxing and decor is quite above average.

A two course tasty lunch for two plus a couple of glasses of wine is available here. The set menu includes standard food like lasagne, bruschetta and aubergine parmigiana while there is a wider a la carte menu. Staff are always friendly and the food is always freshly cooked. This is a great find.

We had the fritto misto to start, the prawns so succulent and the calamari tasted so fresh!

Dropped in here for a late night bit of dinner. What a great find! Very friendly staff and great food. We both had pizzas and a very nice glass of wine. The food was excellent, some of the best pizzas we’ve had. It was quite late and they were due to close, but we didn’t feel rushed to finish our meal. Would highly recommend if in the area.

I went here today and was so happy with it! I was a little nervous because their website shows no vegan options so I rang up and was put on the phone to the chef who said he can make almost every dish into a vegan option upon request. Everything I ordered they not only made vegan but they were all delicious!! Couldn't recommend it more! :)

Oftentimes we come here as a family for lunch or dinner, the kids like it and love the pizzas, and we the adults very much like the ambience, the wine list, and all of the food. At the end of the meal, we have not overpaid for what wer have gotten.

... but some of the staff seem to always be having a bad day. Some are delightful, some are just miserable, which means we struggle to return - which is a shame, cos as I said, the food is tasty, fresh and authentic.

There are several restaurants, including the usual chains in Bishop’s Stortford serving Italian food. Cibo is a family run restaurant and it’s very refreshing to eat here.

Food was absolutely fantastic. Small but varied menu. Meatball starter was full of great flavour and perfectly cooked. Puttanesca was a recipe passed down from the owners mother so I was told and was delicious. Staff were attentive but not pushy. Good atmosphere. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Never been here before ,but found it fairly quiet with room to sit . Quite a good menu and servicenot qick but not slow either and staff attentive .Would return

Ottimo ristorante italiano! Forse un po' caruccio ma con 15£ riesci a mangiare un antipasto e un primo o un secondo, più bibita. Da assaggiare l'arancino, la lasagna e la parmigiana!!!!!! Ecco alcune foto...eccezionale veramente!

Can't rate this place enough. Having been to Italy several times, this is the closest to authentic cuisine I have found in Essex. Exceptional dishes from starter, main and dessert, also coffee. Previously had takeaway pizza too which was amazing. Wonderful service, reasonably priced and will be returning with my family next time!
