Church House in Cheshire East

Sat at an empty table with cutlery and napkins in a container. Woman came and said "you eating". Replied no. "Well you can't sit here it's reserved". There was no reserved sign on the table. This has happened twice now. Gave them a 2nd chance, They won't be getting a 3rd. This is an eating pub not a drinking pub We exited after one drink, when we may have stayed and eaten food Made our way to The Throstles Nest, Now that is a great friendly little pub.

Good family orientate pub. Lots of parking and easy access for me as a wheelchair user. The food range was pretty wide and excellently cooked and served.

Great looking pub. Lots of indoor and outdoor space. Bar service and seated service in the eating area. Good cocktails. Fair selection of beers.

Excellent food, we both had the Homemade Steak Pies & they were amazing. Not over-priced & plenty of food on your plate,. Cosy atmosphere on a wintry evening. Lovely, pleasant Staff and Service. Would highly recommend the Church House for Drinks and Food Thank you for a wonderful Meal!

What a lovely Gem. The Christmas decorations are amazing. Lovely environment. The food was fresh and hot, thank you to the kitchen staff. The lovely waitress, "sorry I didn't get your name" was polite and friendly. Thank you. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely pub with an extensive food menu, including a children's and even dog menu!! Nice size, staff are very accommodating and it's dog friendly inside. Play equipment out front for kids as well.

WOW!!!! Stumbled on this little gem today. Sunday roast to die for. Best we have come across for a long time. Food was piping hot, plenty of it and home cooked to perfection. Compliments to the chef and kitchen staff. A bit further than we usually travel for Sunday lunch but glad we did. Definitely will be returning to this establishment.

Lovely space, with spectacular service and delicious food. Above all, everything is very clean, from the dining room to the bathrooms. I recommend it.

Super pub .We stopped on a caravan pitch run by the pub.Brilliant staff in particular Sarah who's lovely 😍.

Food was lovely! Staff were very polite,friendly and helpful. Food did take awhile but it was freshly made so to be expected. Garden was beautiful to sit an eat in.

Called in today, very busy as they had a funeral wake on. Staff very pleasant and service was great. Family of 6, ordered food, not a long wait at all and everything was lovely. Kids enjoyed the play area. Totally perfect atmosphere and perfect end of our day out.

Fantastic pies 🥧. Food in general pretty good. Real ales available. A little quite but nice. Caravan site at back very good for access to Congleton and canal.

We went on a Sunday and didn't realise it is a limited menu on a Sunday, so after deciding what we wanted, we were told we couldn't and were given some photocopy menus to order off. Whilst choosing off these menus we realised they had given us 2 different ones, so had to wait again for the correct menu. The service at the bars was painfully slow, 3 staff mooching about, doing anything rather that serving customers. The food was ok but took ages for the starters to arrive and then a long gap between finishing the starters and the mains arriving.

Great place for kids to play. Went for food and drinks. Service was extremely slow. 1 girl on the bar on busy Saturday trying her best. Waiting along time for the food. Ordered a mixed grills, mine was delicious but my friends was not, steak was awful looked like it had been chewed by a dog. Bar service was very slow. Slightly underwhelmed

Came here with children of varying ages, our youngest loved the new play area. Everyone's food was lovely and nice atmosphere in the beer garden.

Their steak & Guinness pie 🥧 with chips, peas & thick gravy. The church house gives a warm homely feeling the food brings back childhood memories.🤗👌🤗

Went with the family yesterday for dinner , Last couple of times was before it changed hands and the food had gone very downhill but it’s close to my parents house so we thought we’d give it another go . wow ! what a turn around food was really lovely ! We all really enjoyed it ! Staff were super friendly and helpful , definitely recommend and will be returning

Have been visiting this friendly pub since its refurb. However today the food was amazing, well done to the new chef. Will eat here again

First time visiting and had heard from family great reviews. Lovely building and outside space. Sat down for a meal and found starter and main to be extremely disappointing. Very clearly prepackaged/frozen food put together with minimal effort. Service was slow at over two hours wait and sides didn’t even come with the mains. Would guess it’s nice in the summer for a drink outside but apart from that don’t bother.

Went today food came out luke warm and basically cold and wasn't even informed untill I noticed and ask that my bottle of cider was alcohol free

This place is appalling. Overpriced beer served by incompetent staff. I visited on a Sunday afternoon with my wife and son. I waited at the bar for someone to serve me for about 10 minutes. Four staff members converged on the customer side of the bar, had a 2 minute conversation and dispersed into 4 different directions. Not one of them looked at or acknowledged me. When someone eventually appeared behind the bar they asked if they could help me. I said yes they could and asked what the delay was about. She angrily replied that they were very busy and doing their best. The place was 2 thirds full max and there were plenty of staff around. Then another member of bar staff arrived, apparently more senior than the last one and asked me if there was a problem. I said that yes, there was a problem and began to explain why I thought so. He started to argue back at which point I said that if he didn't understand why there was a problem he shouldn't be working in hospitality. Then I asked if he was going to serve me or not. After repeatedly asking him the same question 4 or 5 times he eventually said that he would. This took place 3 or4 months ago and I have not been back since. I am not a moaner. I have worked in hospitality for decades so I'm not second guessing what the level of business was on the day of my visit. These people on another occasion were standing outside the pub on a busy Sunday afternoon in the summer audibly taking the piss out of customers in the bar room. People who are known to us, some of them friends. This is already extremely long but I could go on for a lot longer. Do not waste your money in this overpriced diva fest.

Jess,Kim and Chef Taylor run a fab bar ,service is welcoming ,knowledgeable and really attentive..can't recommend this venue enough..the obvious regulars are nice too

Food was excellent, as it was on our previous visit. Service was very slow but I can excuse that somewhat as it was busy. However the barking dog was unbelievabley annoying, and the staff said they were unable to do anything about it. Dogs should not be allowed in pubs and restaurants, especially badly behaved ones or ones that their owners can not control. We won't be returning for a third visit, sadly.

NYE , we called in unexpectedly after we’d been for a walk up the cloud. We sat in the bar area as we had our 🐶 dog but all staff were most welcoming. The lady that served us was very attentive, bought a bowl of water out for Molly and said there were treats at the bar for her. She kindly took our order for 2 x Sunday Lunches , one Turkey one Beef. The food was lovely, nicely presented and piping hot and complemented with a side bowl of vegetables. My husband commented how nice the new potatoes 🥔 and parsnips were whilst I had the mash on mine. We highly recommend visiting and we will be back again soon.

Went for a funeral tea and the pub was immaculate/friendly service and the food was second to none staff brilliant would definately recomend a visit.

Great friendly service and lovely atmosphere. We had the Sunday roast which was hot and tasty,the stuffing was a bit on the hard side but that was tasty as well so not a big deal. Thank you.

Came for a meal with a few members of my family. Sister eats gluten free and said the chicken burger was fantastic. I had the vegetarian roast which had a Mediterranean Wellington and it was really good, I think it had peppers, olives, onion and more and honestly it worked really well. The rest of the party had a roast which they all enjoyed. Will definitely be coming again.

Went for Sunday lunch, as we pre booked, got upgraded to large size for free. we had beef, pork, very very nice. Much better than any horid carvery place. Deserts were equally delicious. AAA + Service, atmosphere and food + exellent value for money

Beautiful building, lovely staff and great food and service.

Ordered the steak n guiness pie, which was lovely, but hubby ordered the burger and chips. The burger meal was so disappointing. It was like paying for a pub burger, and having delivered a macdonalds happy meal. The first burger meal we have had at this standard ever.

Good food (and I'm hard to please) brilliant service couldn't fault anything. We will definitely be back.

Visited today for Sunday lunch as a treat. The pub was very very busy, however, James was amazing on the bar and the team. Never realised how much attitude bar staff take in one shift from customers. Well done for the professional manner all complaints were dealt with today. Some people complain for the no reason. Food was amazing as always.

Much different from when it first reopened. The food was not how it used to be, on recently visiting. The same price but the quality of the food has been compromised. We're all in a cost of living crisis and our money will now be spent elsewhere, where we'll get what we pay for!

Nice pub, great staff, lovely food (if a bit pricy) We stayed in our motorhome at the back of the pub, which was OK, but again, for a pub stopover, it was a bit expensive.

Really friendly staff, made to feel very welcome. The menu isn't extensive but the food is good, we all had something different and all agreed the same.

Our family of 4 adults visited last night (Saturday). The pub looks great on the outside and inside, food was delicious and well presented, the service was attentive, food came out in good time and offers of more drinks, atmosphere perfect with quiet music coming from the bar area, everywhere clean, and decor is lovely, plenty parking. All good ! (This is the feeling of two 50 somethings and 2 boys 21 and 19). We'll definitely go again and would recommend.

Tried the ribeye steak…nicely cooked and was very tasty. Bonus points for the crispy chips, the best I’ve had in Congleton. Service was friendly and we ordered straight away but the bottle of wine took more than it should have done to arrive as it wasn’t even busy.

Nice pub with good pub food and craft ales. Separate veggie menu available (not advertised on website), though we went with the halloumi tacos off the main menu which were very tasty.

Perfect stop for Sunday Dinner. Excellent staff, great food and nice sized portions too. Also the decor in the pub is very smart, good selection of beers too. We will most certainly be stopping off here again! Totally recommend and you won't be disappointed either!

We called in on a whim on the way home from a walk up the Cloud. My partner had wanted to stop here for a while so it seemed a prime opportunity. What a lovely place! Clean, fresh, well presented and well maintained (a recent refurbishment probably helped here!) With ample seating and a lovely lawn area. I think the pre-refurbishment version of this pub had a kid's play area. That appears to have now gone, but they are still very child (and pet) friendly. Staff were very friendly, drinks were well kept and well presented, toilets were clean. We didn't try food but would like to. The place has a lovely feel to it. We will be going back.
