The food was good but I have mixed feelings about the whole experience. We waited over an hour for the food despite pre-booking food for a larger group and the place not being busy at all when we arrived. The staff is pleasant and helpful but the overall atmosphere a bit flat. Prices are high and they charge for everything, splitting water per glass in the bill for members of the group, which leaves a bitter taste at the end of an ultimately nice meal given that they charge over 13% service and then tip on top. I enjoyed it in great company but given the number of places to eat around, would go somewhere else next time.

An explosion of taste in central London. Sophisticated location, with attention to every detail as well as the customer who is constantly paid attention to. The cuisine made me and all the other guests feel at the same time between the walls of the house and in a starred restaurant for the authenticity of the raw materials, the refinement of the combinations and finally for the care in the presentation of the dishes. Congratulations to all the staff but especially to chef Davide who, with his love and passion for cooking, made a dinner become a real culinary journey.

Comically bad. Being understaffed (with under trained waiters) on a Friday night despitr only half the tables being occupied is poor. We felt sorry for the poor waiter serving us, who may have been on his first night there, as his English was so lacking that his vocabulary did not extend to the items on the menu! It was seemingly the first time he had ever heard the word "Carpaccio" despite it being on his own menu, so we just pointed to each item we wanted. We were handed a drinks menu with additional bar items which sounded nice but when we asked for some of those on the side, we were looked at like we were crazy - did we not know they had changed the menu a week before but hadn't updated the physical menu yet? Annoyingly, the beer that I ordered from that menu was also unavailable. So, after pointing with fingers to a few items on the one official menu, I made a bet with my girlfriend that we wouldn't get what we ordered, and my money was safe - the entirely tasteless croquettes arrived instead of what we ordered. The carefully communicated carpaccio was intriguingly similar to prepackaged slices of fully cooked roast beef like you'd buy in a plastic packet from Tesco. Also tasteless. The entire experience was so bad it was almost noteworthy.

Booked a table here for my graduation dinner. During my graduation I get an email saying I have cancelled my booking (I have not). I spent the remainder of my graduation event on the phone to Chiswell Dining Rooms trying to understand what had happened whilst my peers celebrated without me. It was a technical fault by design my night, but I still think it’s unacceptable that Chiswell Dining rooms only informed me on the day of the booking and wrongly informed me it was due to me cancelling. A total lack of responsibility from the company, who were happy to leave me scrambling for a last minute alternative the day of my graduation. Huge credit and thanks to Max who listened patiently to my complaint on the phone and later got in touch with the offer of a table at the Jugged Hare. Unfortunately the Jugged Hare was rammed with several Christmas parties and family who had travelled a long way to see me graduate had to yell over the noise to hear each other. The lady who greeted us and took our coats was lovely, our waiter was abrupt and unwelcoming to my family. Three free glasses of Prosecco didn’t make up for it. An extremely stressful experience on a day I had been looking forward to all year.

The service and atmosphere was very flat. The set festive meal is extremely expensive considering the menu offered, but the food we had was very tasty. I looked at the a la carte menu and my 3 courses came to £50 if ordered from there, but we were charged £75. This leaves a very sour taste. The turkey meal didn't come with the advertised duck fat roast potatoes nor stuffing.

Charming and inviting, it offers a laid-back vibe and a wonderful experience. The employees were cheerful and attentive. We enjoyed the food and everything was presented beautifully. I highly recommend it to anyone searching for a fantastic meal in London!

Had the pre-theatre menu on a Monday evening , and although the restaurant wasn’t full the kitchen was obviously overwhelmed. Multiple other tables left before food arrived due to running out of time. We had to eat our mains in 5 minutes. Also the vegan (squash) main was disappointing. One positive note - the house wine is great.

Had a fantastic experience at Chiswell! The atmosphere was cozy yet elegant, perfect for any occasion. The staff was friendly and attentive. We loved the food! Everything was beautifully presented. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great meal in London!

Conocido por un miserable miembro del personal, que era nuestro servidor y permaneció miserable durante todo el tiempo. Todos pedimos la red eléctrica y después de 2 solicitudes, finalmente obtuvimos nuestra comida tibia y hora después! Mientras esperamos, pedimos que la jarra de agua se dejara en la mesa (estoy en quimioterapia y necesito beber mucha agua) , solo para que se le dijera rápidamente ‘pregúntele a su camarero’ mientras se llevaba la jarra???? Sólo había uno de los : El halibut se fue, que yo tenía ya que es mi comida favorita. Estaba bien cocinado, pero apenas caliente y todos dijeron que la comida era tibia, aparte de la ensalada Ceaser de mi hijo, que era encantador. El cordero era de 3 pequeños trozos mal cocidos, que era literalmente 3 bocados pequeños. ¡En serio! Mis maridos rebozaban en su pescado era flácido, seco e insípido pero las patatas fritas eran agradables. En general, muy decepcionante.

Vine aquí por unas copas, fue bastante desagradable, carecía de personalidad. La zona del bar se sentía más como una sala de espera, simplemente no era para nosotros.

I’ve eaten at Chiswell Street Sining Rooms several times and the food is always excellent - well sourced ingredients and creative flavour combinations. On this visit I started with the fresh tasting Isle of Wight Tomato salad with Stracciatella cheese, pesto and olives which was delicious. The main of Salt Marsh Lamb cutlets was beautifully cooked - succulent and full of flavour, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding was suitably indulgent and gooey. The dining room itself is beautiful and the service was exemplary. Highly recommended.

Encontré este gran restaurante por casualidad. Íbamos a la barbacana y no habíamos reservado ningún lugar para comer antes. Côte estaba lleno, pero justo al final de la carretera, este encantador restaurante estaba vacío con solo unas pocas personas en el bar. Elegimos el fletán en una galleta de gambas, que era simplemente delicioso! Necesita comercializarse mejor - comida, servicio y alrededores todo fantástico - recomendar a fondo!

Hmmmmm! Rather disappointed. They knew nothing of the London Restaurant Festival Menu that I booked. Food was good enough. Service wasn't bad it just didn't reflect the amount we paid and the type of service I expect for that. And one of my pet hates: We are constantly being asked if everything was alright! I will tell you if it's not don't keep asking me! Please.... all waiting staff stop! Not inexpensive one bit. We were especially rushed out at the end and when you are paying that amount I don't expect that! It will not be on my top ten to return to! And another thing don't ever tell my guest the coffee machine has been turned off! What's that all about? Normally a restaurant can't get enough tea or coffee down you! I have been to a lot of fine dining restaurants and I know what I'm talking about, really not the best. I was expecting good things too.....I have a nose for it!

Excellent food, relaxed atmosphere, great staff. Really helpful about allergies. Nice short menu with interesting flavours - not the usual brasserie fare. Nice to see them back open again.

Having been to this venue three times several years ago, I was greatly looking forward to revisiting with my family. Being a Saturday evening I expected the restaurant to be very busy, it wasn't. Subsequently the service was pretty attentive and quick. However we had problems with the food. Between four of us we had three steaks for main courses. The two Sirloins (at £45 per steak) were inedible. The meat was so tough we couldn't cut it with our supplied steak knives. The medium rare steaks came to the table already cut into slices .There was gristle in the stakes making them impossible to chew. thinking they may have been under cooked, they were both sent back for extra cooking and came back and were still awful. I suspect the meat hadn't been hung enough (if at all), the fillet was Ok but only that, and the Cod was undercooked. We were refunded for the cost of one steak only. I expected at £45 per Sirloin for the meat to be top quality, It was far from that. I will not be returning as I am very disappointed the quality has fallen so low. I cannot recommend this restaurant.

Ate the today The food was to die for, the service amazing, the only thing that brought down my experience how the manager a blonde lady was speaking to her staff, they worked hard and look like they are doing their best but she was always complaining to them this brought the atmosphere down

Amazing food and staff great overall

The food was very enjoyable and the dining room is atmospheric. The only issue was that there were only two tables - us and ironically a former colleague of ours having lunch with a client of his. Strangely TripAdvisor is saying that the restaurant is temporarily closed, but I don’t think that’s the case. It wasn’t for us!

This place charges a "service charge" even when you're just ordering a beer at the counter. They gave us the service charge back after we questioned it and asked for the receipt.

We went fairly late on a Wednesday after a concert at the Barbican, 2 minutes away, and it was pleasantly quiet at that time. The staff were welcoming and friendly, and our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu, despite being fairly new. The food was superb- my monkfish, my wife's hake, and one of the best sticky toffee puddings I've had anywhere.

High quality food but portions were small. Three courses were enjoyed by all ten people in our group and not a crumb left on any plate. Quality ingredients which were expertly cooked but many of us left hungry.

Our Corporate annual party venue, I had a great time bcuz of company of collugues and service by the staff. They were kind, professional and took very good care of guests. Coming to food, as I am vegetarian, the choice was limited in starters and main course. It was OK. The desserts were delicious, loved it. I recommend this place for get together or dine in. It is spacious, good service, clean bathrooms.

Outstanding food with amazing customer service. Munir is the best ! The mint lemonade drink was so refreshing. I loved this restaurant. Would definitely recommend this place !

staff are pleasant enough but the meal was awful. Had to send the (cold) steak back! (steak served with sauces but they baulked at providing basics like mustard)The wine was barely drinkable. All this for £45 plus 15% service! Better food at Wetherspoons.

Great space for private dinner and party

Bit pricey, but great 'modern British' food, with seasonal local ingredients. One of the best restaurants in the area.

Very good pre theatre set menu although it's rubbish to not offer it to a guest who arrives at 18 32. Our friend was late and was told you need to go a la carte. In the end he just had a soup and had a sandwich at the Barbican later. So the restaurant made less money than if they had offered the menu. This is bad commercial practice and hopefully they will learn from my comment.

Found this restaurant through Open Table. Judging by the full bar the venue appeared a popular choice. Had to wait till 5:30pm to be seated. Service was prompt and food was very good, as was the service. The bread and sesame butter arrived as if freshly baked and warm which went down a treat with my pumpkin soup starter.

Pre theatre dinner for 4. Restaurant only opened at 5:30pm but many guests arrived early for drinks at the bar. Olive bread of the day arrived freshly baked which went well with my pumpkin soup starter. My main course was pork cheeks which was beautifully tender. Would certainly return to try the a la carte menu.

I asked if there was a pre theatre menu, to be asked if I wanted to see it! We ordered starter and main but the main came out. After that didn’t feel like the starter so had ice cream and were not charged pre-theatre Never seen anything like it

It was a really delicious chicken pie special on Monday night. Would very much recommend that dish and the friendly, professional staff in a comfortable, easy to get to setting.

Lovely dinner before a Barbican show. Great value for two courses - pork terrine starter and a really nice braised pork main (lots of pork, by choice!). Good house red wine and friendly waiter. Bathrooms a bit of a walk through the hotel, but all very pleasant.

A delightful greeeting and attentive service really made this evening for us. We received helpful advice when we asked. The meat for one meal was a little dry and when we mentioned this immediately an extra serving of "jus" arrived which did the trick. Sadly I cannot recall the name of the young Spanish woman who was in charge of the dining room that night but she was excellent in her anticipation of our needs.

Service was quite poor. Restaurant was empty and they couldn't find us a table then jammed us next to another table.

I've visited the Chiswell Street Dining Rooms many times for breakfast & lunch and it never disappoints. Great setting, excellent food & service and very good value for money. Highly recommended.

Good food, excellent staff, dinner for 30 people served perfectly and a good evening had by all our guests!

We had not eaten here since 2014 and we liked it then. In the interim the confidence and competence of the restaurant seems to have grown further. There is a sureness of touch. I ate hispi cabbage with was satisfying and tasty. My son ordered the burger which came almost rare just as he likes it. We shared a cheeseboard to finish and drank a bottle of red house wine. Given the location and quality this was excellent value for money at £75 for two.

First time I've visited this place to eat and have to say will be back as it was a great place for a business lunch and my guests really enjoyed the food and services. We will be back.

Great rabbit offal salad starter is a menu fixture for which I returned and will do so again. Equally good special guinea fowl with harissa & sumac (medium hot). Outstanding cocktails especially the white chocolate espresso Martini. VVG cheeseboard with unusual all-UK selections. Very decent reasonably priced 2015 Barolo. A find.

If you are loking for good quality British food, this is a perfect place.

This was good resuarant but we went on a Thursday after Xmas late, 22:30 and there was only one other group apart from us. The web site said it was open until 01:00 am. but we encouraged to leave at 12:00 midnight, as we were the last ones left, I see there point, I chose the veue based on on information opn the web site. On a more typical night I am sure it would be great?

Devanture cosy et classe, tout comme le personnel à l’intérieur. Que ce soit le British ou le continental, les deux menus en buffet étaient très bons, et plutôt copieux puisque l’on peut se servir plusieurs fois. Seul bémol, on ne peut pas mélanger les produits du menu British avec ceux du continental et vice-et-versa (surtout pour les œufs-viennoiseries). Personnel très agréable. Ouvert jusqu’à 11h.

Food was good but not worthy of the venue nor my prior experiences here or at the neighbouring Jugged Hare. Service was pleasant and in line with expectations. CSDR has lost its edge based on this visit

Floor staff where very busy as there didn't seem to be enough to cover a full restaurant. Our waitress was brilliant but was stretched. I was often chasing staff for service which becomes frustrating.

I’ve walked past here many times and always thought it looked nice. Assumed it would be very expensive but it’s not. The staff were lovely and very attentive. We chose the a la carte burger which was nice enough but not that special - so I’m not able to judge the menu overall. The bar area was very full of noisy men in smart overcoats and it does always seem to be quite busy there. It’s popular, obviously. I don’t think I’d go there for a peaceful dinner but a good choice for a quick tasty meal or to join the After-work drinkers I guess. We were there Early evening - next time I’ll try daytime!

What a great breakfast we had at Chiswell Street Dining Rooms. This elegant place within the famous old Whitbread Brewery building uses ingredients coming from artisanal, bespoke suppliers who are mostly family run businesses with a real passion for seasonal, sustainable and fully traceable Great British produce. But what made our breakfast even more special was the amazing and welcoming manager called David, who delivered a great service and made us feel at home with his great kindness and hospitality.

Nice food, friendly staff, house white wine was good. My partner received a complimentary meal for 2 from the restaurant chain and we picked Chiswell Dining Rooms to redeem it. It feels like they’re trying to make the transition from being a hotel/pub that does food to a finer restaurant, and they’re on the way to do it. They were pretty quiet for Friday night – so I’m pretty sure if you just wanted to do a walk in you’d be fine.

Very good Quality food, Easy Friday lunch where we had classic Fish and chips , and the house Ravioli. Excellent attentive and non pushy service in an efficient happy method.

Very good service and a nice interior. We had the pre-theatre menu which was substantial but fairly average food with some flavours that didn't quite work for me. Low cost though and an OK option if you are off to the Barbican for a show and cannot get into Cote. Very nice people. Shame it is a bit 'meh' in terms of food.

Friday evening we wanted a good food & casual dining the atmosphere was relaxed but cosy the menu of a modest choice of lamb fish and good veggie option was good. Good wine list to! I ate ham hock croquets with breads as stArter then smoked haddock fish cake with mussel sauce this was delicious! Finished off with sticky toffee puds! All washed down with NZ Sauvignon blanc. There was a great choice of cheeses to finish with if you preffered. Would recommend. Service was sufficient and discrete.

Had the pre-theatre menu - 3 courses for £18. Excellent value and very friendly service.

There is a lot of choice of places to eat in this part of London. We were staying at the Montcalm hotel so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The food, service and ambience were great. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We had a starter and a main course, both of which were delicious and nicely presented. It was a bit pricy but ok for London. My only gripe would be that there is a bar area at the entrance which was noisy. Fortunately, we were able to sit well away from the entrance.

Good food but awful service - had a late lunch starting at 2 and after 2:45 staff disappeared to set up tables for evening service. Did not get out til 4pm and had no time for coffee. Fine if you go early but avoid later in the day.

Came here for a work lunch, it was really good. Great service.

Cod swapped for hake and portion very small. Pie was ok but not impressive. Fish cake was nice. Service was lacking something: not as attentive as could be, could have been smarter or more coherent company outfits, didn’t connect with us. All in all was ok but wouldn’t go back. Hope this is constructive criticism as it could be really great with some attention to detail.

Enjoyable lunch at the Chiswell Street Dining Rooms. We are both allergic to garlic, but the waiters had noted this and were very clear as to the two options that we could not choose, all others being fine. My fish and chips was particularly good.

The food was fantastic and has been consistently so over the years. Service was attentive. Would recommend the restaurant for a business lunch.
