The food is amazing especially the fish pure meat the batter is beautiful and the chips are lovely very friendly staff and good service

The polite young man was very helpful, I believe he deserves a raise due to his dedication to his job , you can tell he is a hard worker as he was fast and efficient. He has been the best worker I have ever seen at a chippy.

Overcharged every single time in here, because I’m not a local or a mate of the staff, who are rude as can be unless they know you. Used to be great a while ago, heard it’s under new ownership so that makes sense. Food it mediocre, chip buddy in cloughey is 10x better, will never go to chip ahoy ever again.

This place is the best. I had the Southern Fried Chicken Box with chicken gravy and it was excellent. There's always friendly banter with the staff and the cost is very reasonable. First Class.

Chips scampi etc all excellent, service is a bit slow but then good food is worth the wait. They give you a call buzzer once order placed so you can sit in car and wait.

Amazing food come over to visit family and it’s a must to have food from here at least 1 night plus no standing about waiting on food they give a wee buzzer so you can go chill in car while food is being made

Nice chips served in what felt like a COVID19 secure environment. We visited on a Friday evening and noticed how popular the establishment is. Masks are required and the business uses a pager type system to let you know when your food is ready to collect.

Travelled from Belfast for a day out and poped in here for something to eat amazing food ws so tasty will drive dwn that way again sometime

Just popped in for a quick bite , while passing through, I only had a cheese burger and a can of coke , but it was lovely. Sat on the benches outside to eat it , and I would definitely recommend it.

I have been holidaying in Dumfries and Galoway for some years now and whenever I am there I make a point of visiting Portpatrick to have fish and chips from Chip Ahoy. This year was no exception but when I arrived I found that the van had been moved to some obscure part of Portpatrick causing the owner to open for shorter periods. Hence this year I did NOT get my fish and chips which I had been so looking forward to. I hope that the powers that be that moved this van from its location to the current one either move it back to where it was or find a more suitable location possibly at the other side of the harbour. Shame on you the powers that be....

Just called in while out for a drive and honestly the best fish supper i ever had, staff friendly what a pity it's just a takeaway, i would recommend it to anyone, looks a bit shabby on the outside but truly lovely food and plenty of it as ending up taking some home with me as couldn't finish it in one sitting

I passed this fish & chip van parked on a farm on the A77 offering food for sale why I have to ask is why would anyone buy food from a van parked in a farm yard with all the dirt and grime in the vicinity.

Don't know what the food tastes like, went at 8.40 and the shop was shutting......so obviously not open till 9pm

The girl that served us was lovely but please please please don’t eat here. I thought we had chosen the safest option by choosing pizzas after we were told their fish was frozen. They had a big pizza oven so you can’t go wrong “right”? Wrong!!! The base was raw & I can only describe the toppings as dry cat food. Thinking about it, the cat food might have been more edible. Also the chips were the cheapest frozen chips you could buy from any freezer shop & they weren’t cooked properly. The can of irn bru & diet cola were lovely & cold.

I can’t remember the exact date we visited but I do remember the disappointment. I guess our expectations were high for seafront fish and chips - actually we only had chips. The chips were from frozen and almost solid - I assume they had been reheated a few times. The Crown chips have yet to be beaten!

Nicest fish and chips I have had in a long time

Went for a wee coastal drive yesterday ended up at this wee town portpatrick. Beautiful wee place. Seen signs along front for fish and chips at the lifeboat shop. so we thought let's go round and get something. Asked the lady what you got ready she said everything is cooked to order fresh. Thought should be ok. Fish and chip's 7 quid sausage chips 4 quid and chips 2.50. Waited 10 mins for it all. Omg disgusting. and the laugh of it was she wasn't even one bit embarrassed to charge me for this and expect me to eat it. Paid the cash and made my way back to the car. Avoid everyone food is not good. Even the seagulls didn't want to eat that muck.

Tried to visit here last week. Van was boarded up with an obviously permanent sign saying "Open later". No indication of when later might be!

On our first evening in Portpatrick we had a walk down to the harbour and walking round we passed chip ahoy they smelt really good so we purchased fish and chips only to be disappointed the fish was average but the chips over cooked very brown at the cost of £7 a portion far over priced it was such a let down after such a good smell.

Stopped off to get some chips in Portpatrick with three hungry teenagers after a long coastal walk. Excellent chips - really hit the spot! Tasty and crisp and had a great conversation about the local area with the friendly lady and another customer while waiting for them to be freshly cooked.

Tasty food and good range of stuff

An ideal commercial opportunity mishandled! Having queued for 'fish & chips' the result was disappointing. The curry sauce was almost as watery as a cup of tea should be and had very little taste - mixed and microwaved while I waited! We ate the food because we were hungry but commented that there was a great opening for a good fish & chip shop in Portpatrick. A pity because with a monopoly they could make a killing if they were good.

During the RLNI Lifeboat week between Sunday 30 July and Saturday 5 August these guys did a fantastic job with their usual high standards. Along with all the other local restaurants the hospitality was brilliant to visitors only adding to this beautiful scenic port's chalm. Chip Ahoy also supply gluten free chips which was an added bonus.

Stuck up a good conversation with lady serving and even though she was busy she went out of her way to provide a great service. Coming from catering background I understand how hard it can be to provide a service which everyone is going to be happy with. For us food was freshly cooked, full of flavour and my 'Mammy' thoroughly enjoyed her Chicken Burger. If we are ever back in PortPatrick will pop along again

Three children and three adults, having read the excellent reviews, decided to sit on the harbour steps in the evening sun with seemingly fantastic fish and chips.

We visited here end of July. We ordered 4 fish & chips which cost £28, the fish was fresh but very thin, the chips were just frozen shop bought dry tasting.

On our holidays to port patrick we went to chip ahoy for our lunch. It was an excellent choice the fish and chips were delicious and went down well. The van and food preparation areas where very clean and the area tidy. The lady who served us was a little gem of information about the local area and were to visit. A must for all visiting port patrick for food and beverages

Stopped for a quick bite to eat with family. Had to wait a bit but I don't mind that. When the food arrived the potions of prepacked chips were small for the money. I've eaten a lot better from fish and chip vans in the past.

We had a fish supper, a bargain at £7 ,and it was the freshest fish we have tasted in a very long while.The chips were delicious too.You have to wait for your order as it is made when ordered, but it is worth the wait!

Spotted the van from across the harbour when looking for a bite to eat and not wanting to sit and wait. Very friendly service while food cooked in front of us. Great portions with smaller chips for one of us. However may be a wait if a queue develops as she is on her own.

Feeling peckish in portpartick?

Stopped here with hubby on way to Cairnryan Ferry, a detour well worth it, which we also did last year. Fish and chips cooked fresh to order. Loved the oap meal which was normal size fish but not as many chips - perfect and a super idea. Both chips and fish were crispy and dry (no excess fat). Thoroughly enjoyed and having eaten in a couple of Bar/restaurants across the harbour, this meal cannot be surpassed in quality and tastiness. The lady was super friendly and chatty too. Highly recommend.

This is simply the best fish, chips and peas I've had in a long time, the chips delicious (a good sized portion) the fish fresh with a light airy batter. It's not often you come across tradition fish and chips this good! If you're in the area be sure to visit Chips Ahoy to treat yourself, you'll be glad you did!

Fish (lovely and flaky) was cooked freshly in front of us with a thin and crispy batter as were chips which were crunchy and fluffy and not at all greasy. Other half was a bit disappointed with lack of mushy peas. Service was prompt and pleasant, not overly friendly. Irish music was being played from the adjacent car and kind of went with the late afternoon scene on the harbour side. We sat and ate on table and bench looking out at the sea..avoiding the glares of the local seagulls who were not impressed with the lack of leftovers! Would happily recommended and return to this rather good little fish n chip van.

Visited Port Patrick area back in May and enjoyed a lovely portion of fish and chips from Chip Ahoy. We sat on the steps in front of the lifeboat station looking out to sea - beautiful setting to accompany very good fish and chips. Thank you! We look forward to coming back when we are up that way in July.

The best fish and chips iv had in ages. Cooked to order so all ways fresh. And a seating area close by so we sat looking out to sea while we had our meal. A kiddies play area is also close by. And they do a child menu. But watch out for the sea gulls

Portions were a decent size, the food was tasty and we got plenty of friendly chat too. Definitely worth a visit.

Called for fish and chips while on holiday visiting portpatrick. Freshly cooked and very friendly service. Don't be put off because it's a street vender . Service and produce was delicious and we will visit again.

Unscheinbar am Hafen von Portpatrick steht dieser kleine Fisch und Chips Stand. Fisch und Chips bestellt. Wurde dann sofort beides Frisch zubereitet und das zahlt sich aus. Fisch und Chips beides super lecker und frisch und das schmeckt man absolut. Sitzbänke zum Verzehr des Essens gibt es am Hafen ausreichend.

Went here on a trip to Portpatrick whilst driving up the coast. Had the hunger, an dont normally eat out of chip vans. This was a little different. Fish was fresh, and batter was very light and tasty. The lady working in the van, the owner, was good banter and pleasant. Look forward to making an excuse to go back sometime soon.
