Chinese Gourmet in Staffordshire Moorlands

This used to be the best around but the last few times I've used have been awful. Something has changed in the last few years. Charged £5 for delivery for 5 miles. Definitely the last time I will use. £32 in the bin

One meal was fine. The beef in black bean sauce was dreadful, scrappy chewy bits of meat. Takeaway not interested in the customer view, offered a replacement with a further delivery charge, very negative attitude. Won't bother again.

Going on past reviews we decided to give it a try,big mistake,just goes to show how you can easily misled,in some cases you can not judge reviews on these alone!I opted for the‘wandering dragon’it was saturated in soya sauce and tasteless,must be the worst Chinese meal I have ever had,if I could leave zero stars I would!!!!!

Honestly the worst chinese takeaway food that I've ever tried to eat. The spring roll starter was pretty much empty of contents and the smallest I've ever seen, and the taste was awful. The BBQ spare ribs had a tainted taste, almost chemical-like. The beef fried rice was pretty disgusting, a dark sticky mess, was it fried in motor oil? After tasting a bit of each item the whole order went into the bin. What happened to this place? It used to be spot on. I seriously doubt that I'll be ordering again.

Absolutely awful. Chips burnt, salt and pepper chips wasn't like from any other Chinese. Noodles tasted nothing like soft fried noodles. Expensive for what we received. Would not recommend!!

The delivery man was the kindest soul I have seen in years. I said he could deliver it to the road because it was a bit of a walk and he delivered it straight to my door with a smile and a kind word. Warmed my heart so much it brought tears to my eyes. The good was amazing which just made it better

Ordered set meal E for 2. Delivery made within 30 minutes as promised. The food was piping hot and oh so tasty. I am not prompted to leave reviews normally but this meal was delicious. The crispy duck was moist and more than enough. Prawn balls in batter were big and crunchy and the sweet and sour sauce sticky and mouthwatering. Finally, the crispy chicken along with the beef in black beans sauce served across the special fried rice was exceptional. Super all around. Thank you.

Egg fried rice should be FRIED with Soy sauce I'm pretty sure. What I got was boiled Rice with a bit of egg. luke warm.

The food was amazing. It was hot, cooked well, amazing flavours and a set meal for 3 has fed 3 adults and a child with plenty left for lunch tomorrow

Good food. Long hair guy dressed up ‘doesn’t have change’ when he turns up. Just started to walk away at first didn’t even say he wasn’t giving me the change! Cash only takeaway and not bringing change? Think he’s pulling a fast one on them to make tips.

Ordered food at 8pm they said it would take 45 minutes rang back at 9.30 and they told me they hadn’t even started cooking it yet and they won’t be starting it anytime soon they hung up I rang back and he told me he could cook it in 10 minutes how can they cook 4 fresh dishes in 10 minutes absolutely disgusting asked for a discount and they said no

We spent £20 on a meal which the portion sizes were incredibly small. Our plates were swimming in excess oil and grease which we found absolutely revolting, enough so that we left almost all of the meal. We rung the order through and was quoted a time of ‘30-40 minutes’, after 15 minutes we rung and explained how we were slightly early and asked if our food was ready and if so we will collect it. The member of staff, who was blunt and rude, on the other end of the line proceeded to tell us our order was ready for collection. After collecting the food, the whole bag was freezing cold, it was cold enough that it had probably stood there a good 10 minutes, which was disgusting given she had originally quoted a 30-40 minute wait. I can’t bare to imagine how cold this food would have been if we had waited the original waiting time. I would recommend this establishment give more accurate collection times instead of serving customers COLD, GREASY food. It takes me a lot to write a bad review, given the current climate but even the day after, I am still so dissatisfied in the service we received. What a waste of a Friday night, a waste of £20 and a waste of fuel. Definitely would never recommend this poor takeaway.

Been recently diagnosed with coaliac disease and chinese gourmet were fab at throwing me a gluten free meal away after we rang over 5 chinese who wouldnt do anything for me !!! 100% recommend

Lovely food and very clean and polite service

There is little that is worse in life than poor service and this restaurant has history. I have often got close to writing a review about their bad attitude to customers but this time I have been tipped over the edge. I phoned for a delivery of food for three at a quarter to seven and was told it could take up to an hour and a half. Hungry though we were we accepted that on a Saturday night they could be busy and we were told that this was indeed the case. However, 8.15 pm came and went and at 27 minutes past the hour I phoned again. Once again I was told that they were busy and it would be between 10 and 15 minutes longer to wait. At a quarter to nine I telephoned again to be told yet again that they were busy - I decided to reduce the pressure on their kitchen and cancelled my meals! It's a shame because when you can get hold if it their food is very tasty. One other beef I have is that they insist on only dealing in cash - even in these C-19 times when we are told to steer clear of the coins and notes as they may carry infection. This needs to change.

I ordered what I usually order from other Chinese takeaways for five people and there was only enough for three. More expensive and not that nice. Also took hour and a half for delivery

Had a take away from here on Friday night. The portion size was tiny and also ridiculously overpriced. They forgot one of items we had ordered. The food itself tasted nice enough. And the delivery time was reasonable. But the price and portion size has definitely put us off ordering from here again.

We had a takeaway here for 7 people and we were all very impressed with the quality of the food. However the food did arrive 25 minutes before it was supposed to and indeed before some of our party turned up. The portion sizes were generous and the cost of the food was very reasonable considering the quality. We would definitely go again and are already discussing when we will next be having a takeaway from this establishment.

Received a menu / flyer through the door today so gave the takeaway a try this evening. Food arrived promptly but prawn balls stodgy, duck dry, flavourless and satay chicken dry and bland. The three dishes cost just over £25 and no prawn crackers. Will not be returning.

Food excellent but a pity there's an hour and a half wait for delivery at all times

We've used Chinese Gourmet for years and can honestly say it's always been good. The're always busy, that says it all.

We have been using Chinese Gourmet for years. Always a bit pricey but they deliver and food has historically been good. Last few delivery’s we have noticed a decline in the quality but thought we had perhaps been unlucky. Thursday night’s meal was £27.50 delivered. Prawn toast which was OK. Vegetable spring rolls which lacked filling and, to be honest, looked like they came straight from Iceland’s freezer display, were adequate. Battered salt and pepper king prawns were lacking in salt and pepper / chilli - very bland and a portion of egg fried rice. No complimentary prawn crackers as other people have commented. I ordered a special chow mien with black bean sauce and crispy noodle, I was expecting something “special”, dark and rich. I was disappointed to find 3 or 4 pieces of miscellaneous meat including 1 prawn, 75% bean sprouts and a gloopy, grey sauce. No black bean sauce as far as I could tell. It smelt awful and it went straight in the bin - I couldn’t eat it and I’m not a fussy eater!My wife and 11 year old niece shared the other food equally. Wife was OK but niece vomited in the night. Obviously I am not suggesting it was the Chinese food that made her it ill, I’m just stating the facts and you can draw your own conclusion.I gave 2 stars and not 1 because phone staff and delivery were good. Sorry Chinese Gourmet, your take away menu has gone in the bin.

Best Chinese restaurant in Leek.

There food does not disappoint. This is the best Chinese takeaway I've ever had. Their beef is so tender. We tried the chef spicy beef as recommended and it was amazing. You need to try their food.

Lots of choice for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Consistently great flavour and good sized portions.

Ordered what was supposed to be chicken. The meat was brown and tasted funny. Chips were cold the only thing endable was the sauce

Was just ambling along Eastbank St-(which is facing the Scarisbrick Hotel) when we noticed the Gourmet House. We walked in & was greeted by the young well mannered staff whom couldn't do enough for us.

Had a delivery last night (Monday) most was inedible. Spent £28+ and no prawn crackers! That is just plain mean. The starters were good but the mains were awful. Duck with mushrooms and black bean sauce. 2 small pieces of edible duck the rest was skin and gristle. Far too many mushrooms and very salty sauce. The spicy special chicken had far too many chillies and onions and again very salty sauce.

We order most weekends from here, always fresh , hot and tasty, although we only ever order the same boring food ( our fault not theirs ) it's always consistent , luvly girls on counter .If your staying in leek, this is the best Chinesse to use, we tried them all when we moved to leek, but always use this one as it's very very clean .

We like the food but waiting 50 minutes after the promised time for a telephone order to be ready for collection and then arriving home to find an item missing is unacceptable. Over promising is never a good idea and will always lead to unhappy customers. This place is so busy they simply dont care and its a complete lottery as to how long you wait.

Been here twice . First time I ordered a Thai green curry . Yeah I know that's not Chinese but it was not nice. Second time the order was completely wrong , tried to ring back but never answered at 7pm

Nos decidimos por un chino para llevar anoche, y pensamos en probar aquí. Sin duda, este es el peor para llevar comida china que he probado. Pasamos casi 30 libras y perder. Algunas de que era justo, más no comestible. El plato era binned chop suey" al platillo. Nunca había visto algo semejante, trocitos de carne y cebolla en algunas gruesas gelatinosas gris gloop probablemente sería bastante útil en la construcción o renovación de casa, estoy seguro, pero no para el consumo humano

Siempre estoy muy impresionado con la calidad de servicio y comida. Acabo de pedir una comida para la familia esta noche en la casa de Alton Towers y no me puedo quejar de la calidad del servicio que recibí. Una voz amigable, ofreciendo consejos y sugerencias de los mejores manjares en el menú. Rara vez comer comidas para llevar y la garantías eran muy de agradecer. Altamente recomendado.

Sunday to Friday the food is a must but on a Saturday night after 7.30 they try to serve to many customers so the standard of food served goes down as its rushed. Delivery time some weeks can be up to 2 hours even though they say 45 mins and if you pop in the girls always say 20 to 25 mins (double it)

seldom had such awful food from a Chinese take away. When I rang to complain the manager was very rude. Don't waste your money. The China Garden in Leek is much better.

We ordered from here to try something different, however we won't be going back. We ordered 3 tofu dishes and each dish only had 2 pieces of tofu in and the prawn dish we ordered only had 4 prawns in. Considering the price, this is very poor!!

Really love the food here, favourite choice for a weekend treat.Try the hot and sour soup! Yum! Gets busy and long waiting times so make sure you get your order in nice and early

Granted it's not in Chinatown but this is a takeaway very much in the tradition of producing varied and quality food.With a diverse menu to cater for all tastes and some of the main courses have a very nice and spicy take on old favourites it's well worthy of a visit...or indeed a delivery ... But bear in mind it's cash only and no credit cards accepted. Very friendly staff who go the extra mile to help make your meal that little bit betterEnjoy

I often order from Chinese Gormet, delicious food, friendly service and speedy delivery. Food is always delicious and I've tried almost everything off the menu! The menu has a variety of choices and the food always tastes freshly made. I love this place!

We rented a holiday cottage 6 miles out from Leek and this restaurant was recommended to us by the owners.....boy, was I glad they did. There were 8 of us, and the order came to just shy of £100....about 22 items were ordered for a home delivery service. The order was read back and double-checked and I was told it would be about 45 mins. Exactly 45 minutes later the delivery guy was there....the food was piping hot, fresh, ALL THERE but most of all absolutely delicious!!It is simply one of the best Chinese take-away's I have ever tasted.....everything was nicely cooked but the chef's spacial chilli prawns were to die for!!Shame I don't live nearby - I would be ordering every week if I did.......I can thoroughly recommend to anyone in the area.

We've had many take always from Chinese Gourmet, and they've always been very good.Unfortunately, not tonight. The old favourites we normally enjoy have changed beyond recognition. And the new dishes we tried were bland. It's a shame, as we enjoy a nice Chinese take away, but we probably won't be going back.

I've eaten a lot of Chinese food over the years and this without a doubt was the best food I have ever had.Have been now over half a dozen times and each time the food was of an equivalent excellent standard.One precautionary note on busy nights do not believe the estimated time for delivery or collection. The promised 20 minutes could be doubled!However I don't care it will be worth the wait!

We usually go to the Laurel Inn but have been disappointed a couple of times recently and so heard good things about this place. We gave it a try and got some nice starters of Sui Mai (which you can't always get from chinese takeaways) and soup, mains of Szechaun Lamb and Special Chow Mein and some salt and pepper chips. All of the above was tasty and good quality. It was quite a while being cooked but was worth waiting for. Cost was about £21 so average really and we are looking forward to going back to try some other dishes soon!
