Very friendly service delivered on time . Excellent value for money.

Horrible service, the lady was very unpleasant and the food was terrifying and had no flavor. The Coca-Cola was brought to us open from the bar and already served in the glasses, deplorable, everything was very bad.

I have never had a bad Chinese until today the food was cold no taste felt like I was eating a meal cooked from a microwave so dry binned it all

Another great take away from China Star, delivered by the owner. I live close enough that the owners will deliver if I’m being lazy and don’t go pick it up myself! Hot food and very tasty! Recommended!

Awful Chinese take away. Food was cold, soggy and highly over seasoned and over spiced making it inedible. Soup was just flavoured water, crispy beef was a sloppy mess, spring rolls were doughy and cold, and the half aromatic crispy duck we ordered was wrapped up in old tin foil like a lump, and inside next to the duck we found two packets of pancakes still in their packets (!) covered in grease. Worst Chinese we’ve ever had.

Although I've not been yet, do come and dine into China Star you won't regret it! Lisa (Tiktok star) & her mum Sophie and the staff are the most awesome people you'll meet! Don't listen to the negative reviews do come and support China Star!

very average takeaway, portions wee bit smaller than expected for fact that i spent 20£, food average, egg fried rice was not friend and didnt have egg

they have changed the crispy shredded chilli beef recipe which used to be good but now it's not very nice.

I'm glad I ignored the negative comments there's absolutely nothing wrong with this resturant. Food was hot fresh and good portions. Although the service was a tiny bit slow that's the worst of it. Not the prettiest place inside but who cares as long as the food is good.

Apologies for my dad complaining about our order on the phone, the order was correct as far as I could see. Everything was accounted for and was very tasty.

El pollo y el anacardo tenían demasiado ajo para nuestro gusto. El servicio era bueno y recibimos un 10% de descuento por pagar en efectivo.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! Terrible service and the food is so bad. We ordered mussels in a black bean sauce. In their picture, there’s 8 mussels but we were only given 6. The lady said it’s just a picture when really it’s false advertising. She didn’t tell us that paying with card adds an extra fee until we decided to pay with card and there are no signs that state that either. After we asked her about the mussels, she started talking badly about us in mandarin. She has quite an attitude. Save your money for a place with better service and food.

The deep fried honey chicken was not deep fried nor did it have any flavour of honey. It was extremely dry to the point where it was practically inedible; there was no sauce and the chicken was full of bones. The chow mein was also very bland. The egg fried rice and prawn crackers were ok though.

As starving as I was, I couldnt eat any. taste was the worst 2 dishes tried, both were completly wrong.

Solid little hidden gem. We went there (3 people) on a monday night for dinner. Went in and it looked pretty cozy, the girl attending us was also very nice, as was the other staff present. We ordered and the food came relatively quickly, with rice. The quality itself was good, solid sweet-sour sauce and well-cooked chicken, the rice was good too. Also the price was very good for a filling dinner in central Edinburgh. All in all i can't complain.

Ordered salt and chilli squid to take away. For £8.50 the portion was absolutely tiny and I can't tell whether it's fried squid of fried chicken, as it's very overcooked. The egg fried rice is fine and what I'd expect for the price. Girl on the desk was very pleasant.

I am not sure why all the 5 star reviews seem to be highlighted here when the place has 3.5 stars total but what a bad experience. 3 tables in total in the restaurant the entire time I was there and it took 40 minutes for 4 nasty looking dumplings to come out. Then came chicken and cashew nuts that looked inedible and “egg fried rice” that looked just like white rice. When I questions that the woman told me they “forgot to add the color”? I paid for the dumplings and left, suggest you avoid this place. Nice atmosphere but awful food and service.

Food wasn’t the best. The chips were cold, the rice microwaved, the curry sauce was watery and the portion sizes are small for the prices. Only ordered as a delivery but wouldn’t go here again, very disappointed.

Quiet restaurant with great service. They recommended the prawns in black bean sauce, and it didn't disappoint. We also had the Will definitely come back next time in Edinburgh.

Should have read the reviews before going here. Very disorganized, terrible food and service. The food we ordered was lousy.

I’m not so bothered about the delivery being late but I am bothered when it comes late and the food was awful! The crispy chilli beef was probably the best of the worst but the Cantonese sweet n sour chicken and the beef and mushroom dish were really not good. The meat tasted funny and it was all really bland. I wd completely recommend to stay away from this takeaway. Spent £41 and probably ate £5 worth!! Go elsewhere- plenty to choose from.

We had a lovely meal after the Scotland v Italy Rugby match. The food was delicious and service was untrusted. Would definitely visit again.

Ordered online. No mention that they did not deliver, as i was at work in hopital, took my money and have not refunded me. Depite me calling restaurant immediately to cancel order they directed me to cancel online however there is no option to do so. Buyer beware

Would have given zero but not an option. Had a meal in restaurant, starters overdone. Chicken satay the smallest portion of a main meal we have ever seen, thin pieces of chicken only 6 bits of chicken not even an half inch long. Satay sauce was sparse too. A rip off. Never again.

On 25th December Xmas day, we had dinner in there. All staffs were very kind as usual. All meals were also very good. Especially, the aromatic crispy duck was very good. We have had sufficient our dinner in there. Thank you! On 29th August, my wife and I visited here for our Sunday lunch. We took three courses lunch. It was very good as usual. Also staff was so kind and very comfortable restaurant. Looking forward to coming back again soon. Thank you! On 18th March, I ordered a Takeaway to this China Star Restaurant. Aromatic Crispy Duck was so nice as usual. They are organising Lunch and Takeaway or Delivery. It was very nice. Owners are also very nice! Thank you for preparing our dinner tonight. My wife and I have had sufficient very much! I Hope from 26th April, we are very looking forward to reopening your restaurant. After reopening, we want to visit again soon. This restaurant’s foods were very good. Also, hospitality was so nice. Two staff ladies were also very kind. My wife and I were very enjoyed very much. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

I work a lot in Edinburgh and always went here for a Chinese meal, very good food if you look pass chips and bbq sauce. Arrived in Edinburgh hungry tonight so I thought why not, China Star. After the meal I went to pay to be told “Cash Only “, not the end of the world but one of the reasons i liked this place was so I could pay with a company card. Such a shame when any Business goes down the cash only route, always a sign of the end.

The Szechuan fish (水煮鱼) was neither numbing (嘛) nor spicy (辣), it was starchy. The vegetables (白菜) were good, tasted as expected. Compared to other UK Chinese restaurants, the portions are small for the price. Too starchy for me, skewed towards Cantonese.

Food nice but not the best I have had portions a bit on the small side when there are 4 of you getting a set meal and wanting to taste each dish you are really only getting a good spoonful of each dish so I would advise if going order your favourite dish and not get the set menu staff really welcoming toilets could do with updating and they are very COLD but I would eat there again

Avoid this takeaway, not sure what the eat in is like but I won’t be risking it! It was really small portions, poor quality food and over cooked or possibly just reheated. I could have accepted one selection being no quite right, but it was all awful.

Over priced and tatty restaurant, lovely lad waiting the tables but that’s the only positive comment. Starters was mediocre but the main… partner ordered chicken curry, ate half of it which was mostly thin pieces of chicken but then two bigger pieces of chicken has raw pink in the middle of it. Partner politely explained issue, owner/manager she was polite enough but initially didn’t see that the first piece was raw then only conceded when the second bigger raw piece was shown. My partner didn’t want a replacement and it put me off finishing my meal. The funniest part is that she went to great pains to show us that she had taken £2.75 off the bill? As of she had worked out the percentage of make eaten to calculate the refund. No apology, no horror at the prospect of causing food poisoning. Do not eat there. I rarely post reviews but it was the lack of concern or understanding of serving raw food that had prompted me to post.

The food is terrible. Even if you argue it is British style Chinese food, it is terrible. The soup and boiling fish are horrible. I never had a worse Chinese dinner in Europe like this.

Might have avoided here if we'd seen the reviews, but very glad we didn't. My wife said the egg foo yung was the best she's had from a takeaway, I had a delicious kung-po, with soft noodles. We couldn't fault it, and both really enjoyed it!

Ordered food at 21:25 tonight and have still not recived the order over 2 hours later. Contacted resturant and said it was driver issue didn't help in any other way. Have tried to contact deliveroo with no luck on there end. Will not order from here in the future

We thought we 'd pop in for a quick dinner on a Friday afternoon. Huge selection of dishes to choose from but discovered that everything was more or less the same dish with a different sauce. Avoid strawberry and lemon chicken at all costs. It's just chicken with a marmalade on top basically. Fried rice was tasteless. The restaurant itself is dark, no natural light, extremely depressing and out dated in decor. Waitress was super helpful, kind and polite. Probably the best asset of the restaurant as food and environment is definitely a con. Toilets although ok to use, were very old probably never refurbished in the last 30 yrs.
