China Sea Restaurant in Glasgow City

We go here for a family meal 3-4times a year and have done for at least 25yrs and I've honestly never had a bad meal yet...the staff are so attentive, the food is amazing and the cost isn't too bad either....would definitely recommend for a Chinese meal anytime in glasgow

Was kind of disappointed with this. Ordered the fried chicken with chilli and garlic but found it really quite tasteless, however it did have heat and wasn't what I expected when described as a fried dish. As previously stated the meal is very rushed with plates being taken away very quickly and next course served as promptly. A bit of a break between courses would have been nice. Prob wouldn't try this one again

Chow mein was noodles and chicken. No bean sprouts, sauce or anything else. Could have made better myself. Very bad. Don't go

Waited a bit for a table which was fair enough as they were busy. Chicken noodle soup was a bit small, could have done with more chicken and flavour. Main was delicious. Staff were lovely. Great atmosphere.

I have never seen such poor quantity of portions before, I ordered 2 meals and a curry sauce and the curry sauce was absolutely TINY it had about 3 teaspoons of curry sauce and the food was cold.

I don’t know how they’re getting away with serving watered down gravy and bland chicken as “satay chicken”. Maybe because we came at lunch time but this was truly some of the worst food I’ve ever had in Glasgow. I had to leave after taking a few bites. The beef chow main was literally cheap noodles served with a few slithers of beef in soy sauce. The fried chicken starters were drier than a shoe. The 50p container charge, the triple priced soft drinks. Just awful. No idea how they’re still in business

Legendary place. Great food, tacky decor and a good atmosphere. Staff watch you like hawks so they can whisk your plate away before you've swallowed your last mouthful. It's hilarious. Please don't ever change.

Tiny portions, and massively overcharged. £87 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 4 drinks (one of them being coke) We ordered off the theater menu, which is a main and starter, for £16.50 Awful experience.

The Cheeny Sea is a fantastic Chinese restaurant which serves super-tasty, fresh food at a price that won’t burst your wallet. Can’t recommend it enough for a great Chinese meal in the centre of Glasgow.

Very good food, we are from Canton region and it's so good that we feel like home. The staff are the best of best, so welcoming and humorous. Made our day!

Food chips were reheats and the onions in the curry were brown and slimy like they were out of date. Gave me the boak. Defo not eating out there again. Waste of money

Enjoyed a lovely lunchtime 2 course meal here again, (3 lunchtime meals) with friends. Food ordered BBQ ribs, Chicken Satay with chips, Prawn Toast, Chicken & Sweetcorn Soup and Sweet and Sour Chicken Hong Kong Style (2 of). Forgot to take pics but food looks just like the picture shown on here for the restaurant. Service was prompt and efficient, food was lovely no complaints. We have dined here a few time for lunch.

Food as always was amazing, but the true salutations has to go to the excellent driver guy who went the extra mile to get the meal here, Just Eat you need to give this wonderful gentleman a serious raise in pay!

The food is really good, especially at £16.95 for 2 courses. The kids enjoyed their food as well. Service wise the staff will take your plate the minute you have finished your last mouthful. They are very attentive. The atmosphere is incredible, it looks so good inside and the dragon on the roof is terrific to look at.

Worse curry I’ve ever had ‘ asked for chicken breast curry & got hit with millions a dice very small cubes ‘ pure no good & no taste to curry sauce.

Went here with work colleagues for dinner one Tuesday night, we only discover it by mistake, staff mad us feel very welcome, they were quick to get some drinks out to us and the food followed shortly, the food was ok 7/10 in my opinion, worth a visit, very reasonably priced too.

Great location and wonderful old school decor. But also tired, dusty and toilets needed a clean. Staff efficient not friendly, one was rude to my daughter. As for the food, it was tasteless; crispy duck not crispy and just fatty. Beef with green pepper and black bean had no flavour. Very poor food. I'd avoid!

Hay!! Hunnerts of you have messaged me too say that youse love my reviews and so on and so forth This boujee wee restaurant “China Sí” in Glasgow in Scotland is pure Chinese vibes and nae debates. The interior is classy and classic with a feature wall that is pure cosy and warm. It feels like you’re in a bespoke restaurant in Chinatown in New York in America and there’ll be nae debates on ma review about it, capesh? We visited at lunchtime on a Thuraday after a long three hour shift at work. The temperature ootside was 15° and I was sweating like the lose of a pull a pig content but I dinnae huv to worry as my first course of “can of Coke with ice” was just the correct amount of coolness. The luxury continued with the crisp white paper serviettes (genuine White Company doop) and tablecloths- an upgrade from the lilac polyester I usually eat off in my hoose and safe space. The level of cleanliness here was aff the charts and most importantly there was a cessificate in the windae showing their hygiene rating “a 5”. Ma main course of “chicken” curry with rice and a spring roll was delicious and I couldnae bear to share any with my Finance but I did get a taste of his “meal”- chicken curry “with” rice and a spring roll. There was so much on offer and newness on the menu. Pure fine dining, and nae debates 👌 After dinner, I had a sippy cup of tea with bergamont and also circumed to a wee bowl of Hazan Daz in the flavour “vanilla”. Am buzzin’ and know that so many of youse would love this pacific restaurant also too 💎 Mwah 🥔

Went here last night for dinner. Food was amazing as always and the staff are very friendly. Ivan and staff know how to look after their customers.

Wham bam thank you not Mam! In and out in 25mins on the Pre Theatre. Veggie option was very bland, meat option was good . Overall disappointing 😔

Came for lunch today with work colleague's for a lunch to treat ourselves. Starter's came out within a few minute's, however the other 2 finished there starter first and i was still half way through my starter and there plate's were away in a rush. This happened again with our main's even though some were not finished main's. Not a calm place to go as felt really rushed and watched for the next table to arrive. Will never be back.

Good selection on a two course single price menu.

Stopped in here for a meal on Friday evening. The food was okay as Chinese food goes but I found that the service staff were pushy and and seemed to lack a level of curiosity you would expect.

Went for lunch today, food was nice and good value. The thing letting this place down is the staff. We realise at lunchtime the staff need to be attentive but constantly watching you and hovering waiting for you to put your fork down to take the plate away is off-putting. We felt rushed and I'm sure if the waiter would have pushed us out the door if he could. We had 2 courses and drinks in less than 45 mins including time to chose what we wanted. Won't be back.

wouldnt eat here again food was shockingly poor was basically having a 3 way conversation with the table to my left felt like they were in my lap no privacy at all chicken sweetcorn soup was horrid and the satay tasted like a chicken curry salty as hell the atmosphere was way too loud we were not even offred crackers or a dessert were rushed into ordering from a set menu which i wasnt really intrested in i woulda liked a special fried rice was so rushed and really noisy drunk people causing a fuss not really a great atmosphere for a date night the satay i got wasnt even hot to be honest i was really dissapointed do not eat here if you enjoy food

Absolutely brilliant place to eat out. Meet up with friends for dinner or lunch once per month and this is a favourite of ours. Foods amazing, super friendly and fast service. Great place to go if you’re going out, you’ll definitely be served quickly, and be out on time! Shout out to the staff who are all really welcoming and friendly throughout your meal. Chefs amazing also, you’ll enjoy the food, service and environment in an authentic restaurant. Love it!!!

Pre Theatre dinner 2 course £16.50. Bargain. Cheap and cheerful. Good selection of starters and dinner. Would recommend chilli spare ribs for starter and beef in black bean sauce. Quick service and staff was tentative. Love the decor and atmosphere. Nice booths around the sides and authentic Chinese wooden chairs. If you want a fizzy drink soft drink order a can instead of a big bottle/draft as the one we've ordered was flat.

I’ve been going to china sea restaurant for over 30 years the food is first class one off my favourite restaurant in city centre so pleased they do take away delivery service now just wish they did delivery on a Saturday too

Food was ok. Atmosphere was cool! Prices were great. Wish they had given us the full menu instead of the cut back theater menu.

Not happy with the amount of food is served, I went in hungry went out hungry, spare ribs come in 3 small pieces hardly any meat, special curry very small portion you might get lucky to get 3 pieces of any meat

We love China Sea! My mum and dad have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years. It is so authentic and truly fabulous to look at decor wise. The dragon is sensational and so glad it survived the fire all those years ago. The food. My goodness. It is wonderful ! Duck pancakes, sweet and sour, chicken curry, chicken with noodles. It’s all out of this world. Simon and the team are so welcoming and always give the best customer service. It is rare to come by somewhere that is the full package these days but China Sea is. Great value for money as well. Everyone must try China Sea. Thank you for the fantastic times.

Lovely ambience with Chinese style decor. Place was busy so might explain why waiter was rather abrupt and not very cheery! The satay starter was good but the Kung Po main course was virtually tasteless and had to find the chicken through an abundance of cashews! Good price for a glass of wine.

Me and the parents go here almost every week! We love it the staff are lovely and the service is so fast and efficient.

Awful, the Chicken was tasteless, only shown pre theatre menu, upon asking for the other menu, the menu card was thrown onto the table. The waiters constantly hovered and the second you stopped eating they brought the bill, even before our drinks were finished, the minute we stood up they whipped the table cloth from the table in preparation for the next customers, talk about fast food, here’s your hat, what’s your hurry,

food was never delivered had to call the restaurant as it was almost 2 hours after ordering to cancel it, want a full refund

What a recommendation by some friendly locals! Lovely atmosphere and vibe. Very authentic, we all loved it! Will def be back anytime I'm in Glasgow & will share with all my friends and family bout the place back home to do the same. Staff were amazing and flawless. £50 for 2 adults and a child, cheap & cheerful, great value for money. Thank you :)

What an amazing restaurant we visited here as a last minute choice. What a good decision it was. The food was hot quick service and tasted excellent. The staff were happy and helpful the decorations was amazing with authentic Chinese theme with a good choice of background music.

After climbing those stairs you'll be in a new world of deliciousness :) Very efficient service. Great food!

I ordered two meals today. Three fresh vegetables stir-fried: shrimps, squid, and scallops. It’s a pity that they don’t taste fresh and sweet. Thai fish: it’s made of fish pieces and deep-fried. If it’s fried, it should be Let the Thai taste be more infused into the fish. The two pieces of chocolate given at the end should be the most unique and delicious thing today.

Dropped in for lunch - and out in 45 mins. Excellent food. ( mind it is a lunch meal n not a la carte ) portions are fine for lunch 2 course. Mini spring rolls👍. Chicken curry ( ask for the ‘normal’ and NOT breast. Taste is 👍 ) Salt n pepper chips (extra at my choice). Staff attentive . Recommended

AVOID AVOID AVOID ............ Was in the restaurant this afternoon with my husband for lunch and the meal was AWFUL, the chicken in both of our main meals was off and when I made the staff aware of it they just removed our plates from the table ""very quickly I may add"" without as much as an apology or is there anything else we can get for you both. They then very quickly sent over the bill for my husbands starter of spare ribs and his diet coke and had the bloody cheek to say we have removed the cost of the main meals from your bill 🤬🤬 We did pay the bill (grudgingly) as he had ate the starter and drank the juice but we left no tip which we never do when eating out, we always leave a tip for staff in restaurants. We have been going to this restaurant for years but I have to say that we will certainly not be returning anytime soon to the China Sea 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Would not recommend went here with a friend asked for a normal chicken curry , basically got the runt of the chicken as it was black, if I would have asked for just a breast of chicken curry I would have got the real deal. Ruined the full meal tbh then never got the chance to ask for the bill before the card machine was flung in my face for payment. Would not recommend .

Absolutely gem of a place...! Food was first class as was service and staff. The restaurant is upstairs though if you have mobility issues. It's a really authentic looking restaurant with beautifully lit booths and dragon on the ceiling, dinner service is chinese design. We will return here.

Disappointed to say least. Food was honestly beyond bad and service was rank rotten, took a while to serve us and when finally did were generally rude and felt like it was just a challenge to get us out as fast as possible. Worst Chinese food I have ever eaten including takeaways, chicken was horrendous took one tiny bite then told waiter it tasted off who them just took the food away not a word to apologise or any sort of money off nothing... fried rice tasted just of oil and £3 pound for a can of irn bru, stay away go to any other Chinese in Glasgow you'll be better off, don't let the age of the place and the gimmicky decor fool you.

You can't knock this place. At the heart of Glasgow for years! Friendly staff, food that hits the spot and terrific service. A credit to the city for how long they've been going. Be mindful of the lofty steps you've got to climb, you'll have deserved your meal after climbing these!
