China Kitchen in Powys

We phoned and ordered our food. We asked how long it would be before we could collect and we were told 50-55 minutes (cash only when we turn up to collect). My parents went to collect this and waited near by. They then went in after the time we were told. They were then told that they only start cooking the food once we paid so it would be another 35-40 minutes. This is absolutely ridiculous! Even if this is the way they operate (which isn't standard and very odd!) why not tell us this when we called and ordered! We were given a time to pick up the food. There was no mention of having to come in to pay before they would start cooking. A really bad experience! Customer service at it's worst!!

Food was tasteless. Took longer than told for collection. Thought it couldn't be as bad as last year but it was. They also only accept cash which is a real pain as the town has lost 4 cash machines over the last couple of years the nearest ATM is at the co-op at the top of town and having knee problems it's impossible to go up there it's about time business started to accept cards

Absolutely terrible food. It's the strangest Chinese food I've ever eaten and I've been to China, married a Chinese and eat at Chinese restaurants very often. The dishes here are fake.

Bit hit n miss. Quite expensive now that everything has gone up. Portion size is good, but quality of food in not consistent

I'm not sure if the person who cooked this food was even Chinese. There were ingredients missing, which completely ruined the meal. Please add chilli and vinegar to the chilli crispy beef.

Kung po?!? More like Kung ‘no’!! Walked in felt like I was doing a Tennessee prison visit! Perspex city!! Portions are half the size of my local and the oil content is double, everything very greasy! Shame it’s cash only as well.

15 min wait turned into an hour + for chips and rice My advice would be phone it in as they put you to the front of the queue and leave walk in waiting

A little sceptical after reading some reviews before ordering, but the food was lovely. Would definitely order again 👍

The food does not deserve to be called Chinese, there was no flavour to any of the dishes we ordered, all the sauces were very watery but on the plus side if you like carrots and onions most of the dishes had lots of them. Will never go there again. Disgusting

On a caravan holiday in Builth Wells and fancied a takeaway, found the China kitchen, very easy to order, very quickly served and very very tasty. The pancake rolls to die for and very reasonably priced. We will be back.

Really enjoy the food from here. Have had various items off the menu, the food is cooked quickly and is very tasty. Sweet and sour chicken balls are a favourite, batter nice and light. Shop looks a bit tatty but the food is good

Used this cantonese take-away whilst visiting Builth Wells and was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food from this establishment. It was certainly a little bit above the normal chinese style take-away. Decent sized portions and well cooked.

Asked for 2 vegetable spring rolls and got 2 greasy meat rolls. Never will go again. Was really greasy

Absolutely disgusting, worst Chinese I have ever had. Would not even class it as Chinese cuisine, no flavour whatsoever, sweet and sour sauce is just water. Everything ordered looks like nothing it should of been, it is all packaged in a water based substance which have no flavour. The prawn dishes are a health hazard. Not worth the money at all, small portions bulked with what I suspect is frozen packaged vegetables. Chips are poor, tasteless skinny fries and the veg spring rolls are dyer. Only positive is that the dishes were warm thanks to the water. Do not waste your money very annoyed. Sorry.

If there was more of a choice locally I probably wouldn't have gone here, the take away shop itself looks run down and in desperate need a a good tidy up. The food was okay, some dishes like the me on chicken was good and others not so good (the satay chicken was watery and tasted of nothing). The prawn crackers are also pretty rubbish. Basically unless you're desperate for a Chinese I wouldn't rush to this one - sorry!

They gone down hill over the years order was completely wrong took 2 hours and 17 calls to get through offered replacement meal went to get with pictures and told to bring food er in bin in this heat called liar despite having pics and 8 other folk being there from same day with complaints over incorrect order get act together or folk will go elsewhere Don't see rice here do you or king prawns

We eat from here regularly as a local family. We have always found the food to be fresh and well cooked, with a good variety of dishes.

Best chinese around. Good prices. Love the food I've never found it greasy?? Quality food every time

We had takeaway was disgusting & greasy I will never go there again worst Chinese takeaway ever had , greasy food is very bad for our health ladies and gentlemen.

Worst Chinese I’ve ever had, very disappointing. Dishes were nothing like the dishes had in other Chinese takeaways (and I’ve had a fair few). Sweet and sour sauce was like water! Crispy chilli beef was just horrendous I wouldn’t even give it to the dog as I’m not sure what it was! Satay sauce was like water no peanuts in it at all. Usually the sauces have some kind of substance to them.Over all just a big let down- would t recommend, don’t waste your money and still have to cook dinner!

We had a take out & we really enjoyed it, the food was delicious. Good value and plenty to eat. Will definitely use again on our next visit.

Had a few Chinese meals as we travel through the area. It's always been good. Service is quick and friendly.

First time visiting the area, didn't have a menu and unfortunately there wasn't an online one. But reasonably priced, lovely food - not too greasy, the sweet & sour chicken balls are so good!!

As the only Chinese in the town they have no competition but as we have Chinese takeaways all over England it is quite good but a bit slow when busy

we are a family and have uses this takeaway a few time when visiting . The takeaway for is lovely and just a shame they don t deliver as we would proble uses them more

Worst Chinese food I have ever. It is a take away so no seating inside. The service is fairly rapid but the product is almost inedible.

Realmente decepcionado de encontrar comida para llevar china que ofrece un menú muy básico. No empezar china, no pato crujiente y tortitas. También detrás del mostrador tomando las órdenes era un muy joven por en la escuela uniforme.

Just wanted a quick takeaway instead of another meal out whilst having a few nights away in Wales. Food was fine here - we had chicken chow mein, egg fried rice and chicken balls - pretty standard really. Portion sizes fine, chicken tasted like chicken. Chow mein was different to how we had experienced before in that the noodles were on one side of the container and the chicken, veg and sauce was the other side rather than being mixed in. My fiancé thought this was weird but I quite liked it.Service was fast enough Would recommend for a quick meal that's hassle free

A very average Chinese take away. Menu is limited, quality of food is not consistent and even though I've had several take aways from here over the past year or so, each time I've reordered a meal, it's tasted completely different. Sauce has either been runnier or less in quantity or the whole meal has tasted very different than its previous carnation! A very non-descript meal from a non-descript menu.

Picked up a takeaway from here whilst attending the Winter Fair, overall is was ok. We ordered over the phone and picked it up half an hour later, not bad considering they were quite busy. Most of the dishes were good, a bit stingy on the quantity of the ribs and the chicken satay was like no satay any of us had tasted before not that great tbf. As the subject title suggests, distinctly average.

Stunning food with ample portions. Family lovel going there and its always our first stop when we camp at the showground.

Really looking forward to a Friday night chinese, popped in and ordered for 45mins later, drove 7 miles home only to realise they'd given wrong order! Rang them ASAP and was told told if I drove 7 miles back they would swap order. No way! Extremely rude on phone telling me it was my fault, the fact that they'd given me nuts to someone with a nut allergy was disgusting. Words can't describe my anger to there blazey attitude. As a local business women will not be ordering again !

Service was a reasonable speed for a Saturday evening. Food was fantastic - the spare ribs were a bit dry, but the rest of our meal was perfect. We over ordered as you never know what portion sizes are like but this was unnecessary as they were quite big. Our main disappointment was not being able to finish it all! I have no problem recommending this one - we will be going back when we return.

Called in today (royal Welsh week) got charged £5.20 for 3 1/2 over cooked spare ribs !! Prices are jacked up for RW show but on top of that they serve crap knowing they haven't got to keep the local customers happy.

It was Chinese New Year and so we thought we would celebrate and have a chinese meal, it was lovely and wrapped really well for a take away. I would definitely recommend it.

I have eaten at many Chinese Takeaways before, across the world in fact, very friendly staff and quick to service however the lamb I ordered didn't taste like lamb at all!

I would say this is customised Chinese for the British food market. Not the best Chinese I have ever tasted but its not too bad!

We were camping at nearby Irfon River and collected a takeaway meal. It was really tasty and freshly cooked. So often Chinese takeaway food can all taste the same, but these all had their own flavours and were delicious - one of the nicest we've had. Bit of a wait, but its deservedly popular and all cooked to order, so we didn't mind. Would recommend you try it!
