China Garden in Birmingham

We have been getting takeaway from China Garden for a number of years and the quality is always excellent. Really tasty food and very generous portions. Staff are very friendly, too. Would very highly recommend.

Ella siempre tiene una charla con nosotros y me vio bebiendo whisky bourbon, estaba tan impresionada porque también ama el whisky, así que al final de nuestra comida trajo un whisky Johnnie Walker de 18 años y los dos tomamos un trago cada uno. ¿Debo decir que lo teníamos limpio, era tan suave y sabroso en la paleta? me encantó . Ah, y ella usa estas especificaciones de formas originales que me encantan, ¿podría tener algunas también? Recomiendo este lugar a todos y definitivamente visitaremos este lugar muy pronto.

La comida era bastante buena, pero nada fuera de lo común. Los precios parecían caros y el tamaño de las porciones era pequeño en comparación con restaurantes chinos similares. El personal parecía contento de conversar entre ellos en el área del bar, pero estaba menos interesado en recibir órdenes, etc. de nosotros. Mientras esperábamos un taxi, una camarera trajo una bolsa de transporte que habíamos dejado inadvertidamente en nuestra mesa, lo cual fue muy apreciado.

Superb food delightful atmosphere look after very well by proprietor catered for the seven in our party extremely well already planning our next visit very much recommended.

Food was excellent, service excellent staff cheerful and polite. Definitely go there again. Atmosphere was nice lots of laughter between staff and diners.

Mi esposa y yo compartimos la comida con nuestro hijo de 20 años y, en general, disfrutamos de la comida. . 1/4 Pato aromático 11. 00, Cerdo Yuk Sung 9. 00, sésamo gambas sobre pan tostado 5. 50, Chicken Chow Mein 10. 00, Singapur Fideos 10. 00 (muy bueno, la cantidad justa de chile) más una pinta de cerveza cada una, lo que nos da un total de 60. 00. El servicio fue atento y agradable (sin cargo por servicio) con el restaurante limpio y ordenado (bonitos manteles de lino y servilletas ... inodoros muy limpios). Volvería de nuevo, especialmente si hicieron Dim Sum (albóndigas al vapor y fritas) vieiras al vapor y más variación del plato principal de pescado.

just discovered this place after years of driving past, kids running the bar and clearing, Mum taking orders, lovely atmosphere, fabulous food Definitely the hostess with the mostest giving the highest level of customer service. Only been twice but will go every opportunity I can.

First visit to the China Garden and we were very impressed. There were four of us and we ordered a variety of dishes, all of which were tasty and freshly cooked. We ate up every bit and we look forward to going again. We felt that the price was reasonable for the high quality of the food.

Not been for a couple of years due to bad health and was desperate to get back to one of my favourite Restaurants. Absolutely loved it! Food wonderful and staff delightful. Such a special night out.

Visité China Garden por segunda vez el jueves por la noche con la familia, una persona que nunca había estado antes, pero el restaurante fue tan bien valorado por otros miembros de la familia, así que estábamos emocionados de cenar allí. La comida era increíble, pero tuvimos un problema importante, donde una cena vegetariana en nuestra mesa se servía rollos de carne de primavera. Fue tan decepcionante y aunque fue un accidente, no debería haber ocurrido. El gerente luego procedió a gritarle al chef por todo el restaurante hasta aquí mientras nuestra cena estaba vomitando en el baño. Desde este punto en adelante, ella no quería comer nada más y no lo hizo. Mi familia ha estado yendo a China Garden por casi 20 años y ahora esto nos ha echado a perder.

Excellent service for our party of 17 especially helping us to sort out the bill afterwards. Special surprise for the birthday boy. Excellent food as well. Would recommend to anyone.

Living well decorated restaurant and warm welcome with easy parking. Ordered the chicken curry which was very flavoursome with lots of chicken. My daughter had the chow Mein which she thoroughly enjoyed. The service was excellent and would definitely recommend.

We went to China Garden despite the negative reviews. The food is excellent and ample amounts. The staff are friendly and background music non intrusive. (You don't have to shout across the table to have a conversation). We would recommend this restaurant if you are in the area.

Walking past this restaurant daily makes your mouth water. The food is excellent and cooked by the owner who takes pride in the place and cooking.

Travelled to Lichfield for a night out with friends. Amazing authentic Chinese food, perfectly cooked and really tasty. The wine is a bit expensive, food reasonably priced. Great evening.

We decided we needed a night out and went to China Garden and had a delicious Chinese meal. We ordered the meal for 2 people and had a platter of spare ribs, prawn toast, chicken satay, chicken wings and spring rolls. We also had chicken in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken and duck in hoisin sauce with egg fried rice. All the food was well cooked and tasted delicious. It was followed by coffee and mint chocolates. Service and food were excellent would definitely recommend this restaurant as one of the best in Birmingham. Will definately be making another visit soon.

Had yuk sung to start salt and pepper spare ribs and chicken satay sticks main meal we both had king red king prawns in white wine and chill garlic all meals were out of this world tasty and fresh restaurant modern clean staff very friendly can't wait to go back

Visited with friends yesterday evening, little apprehensive after reading reviews, but needn’t have worried, food was excellent although slightly higher than normal prices. Staff very friendly and attentative. Will deffinately return and recommend.

After reading reviews we were unsure about returning but so pleased we did. Although higher than average prices, the service and food were excellent. A drink spilled was replaced free of charge and table cloth changed quickly and without fuss. Staff were friendly. Everywhere looked clean. We will certainly go back.

We were here on a business trip and China Garden was recommended to us.

I called in whilst staying on business nearby. When I arrived, a little while after 8pm, I was the only customer there. Initially, service was excellent, but became slower as the evening wore on. The food was excellent and much enjoyed. A little expensive, but good.

Checked Scores on the Doors with Bham City Council and found out this restaurant had a ZERO food hygiene rating when 5 is the highest. That says it all for hygiene.

Average take away food at high prices, poor service, not sure what the identity of the restaurant is, if they kept the costs to a reasonable price they'd have the place full instead of empty.

This is a lovely restaurant. It is not halal which is a shame but the food is delicious. Service is very good. Only thing I'd say is it needs bigger portions.

We visited this restaurant on Friday 3rd March as we had some friends come to us from Lincoln and they don't have a Chinese restaurant anywhere near the quality of this one. We ordered the top range set meal for 4 people and I think the price was about £25 each. We have numerous courses of food but the overall opinion was it was probably the best Chinese meal we've ever had cooked to perfection. We didn't heave a sweet but had coffee and chocolates. Will definitely be visiting this restaurant very soon.

Had dinner here with my parents and husband on Saturday night. We ordered a selection of starters and mains all of which were perfectly cooked and very flavoursome. We each sampled all of the dishes and everyone agreed that they were delicious. The service was very good and friendly. Highly recommend giving it a try.

It has been almost 14 years since I last ate at this restaurant, despite it now being a walkable distance away so I was absolutely delighted with my experience last week.The staff were very friendly and polite, the decor suitable for an evening with friends, and drinks reasonsably priced.The menu is diverse, standard chinese restaurant choices but you could tell that the food was fresh.We ordered a 5 course set menu (x4) and there was more than enough food for the 6 of us to share - if anything the portion sizes were too generous!Definitely going back again or ordering a frequent takeaway!

I have driven past this restaurant so many times, so when my parents arrived to Birmingham I thought it'd be the perfect place for a welcome family meal.And boy was I right! We had the four course menu for four, and everything was delicious, fresh, flavourful, divine. The decor is charming, restaurant is clean, bright and very nice.The staff really added to the experience as well - the waiter was lovely and friendly, helpful and accommodating, asking if we'd like a break between each course, and refilling our tea when it was low. Then the owner/chef came out at the end of our meal to ask how it was, which was a lovely touch.In short, the China Garden greatly exceeded my expectations, and I will be back!

The outside and car park belie what is inside.The food; the friendly service; the environment: very good indeed.Three of us had different starters and main meals - all were very good. The waiter was friendly, courteous and efficient. The cost reasonable- excellent value. The house wine was also good and not so ridiculously priced as most restaurants.A most enjoyable experience.

Thoughroughly recommend the China Garden. Absolutely fantastic in every way. 25 of us descended on this establishment for a colleague's 70th birthday meal. The hospitality was excellent, the food was faultless the service was first class. We will be dining here again, everyone enjoyed their evening which went without a hitch. Worth every penny.

Staff very friendly the chef went above and beyond to make sure we was happy and that our son could eat with us . The food was tasty and a huge variety on the set menu (the food just kept on coming ) I have to admit it's not as nice as it was years ago however ,I was happy overall and so was the family I felt the reviews I have previously read on here are unfair . Two recent visits here have been excellent. The food has been tastier than any other Chinese restaurant we have visited and the set menus allowed us to enjoy a variety of dishes. The service has been excellent. A cheerful waiter was polite and helpful despite a busy restaurant and helped to make our visits special.

We waited for just over an hour for our main. The starter was nice, a little on the salty side, the main (when it finally got to us) was nice but my rice was luke warm, I didn't ask for it to be sent back as we'd already waited too long for it to come out! As a way of an apology they took the service charge off our bill, however, we weren't under the impression there was a service charge in the first place so we ended up paying more than we expected to pay. Not happy, won't recommend nor will we return.I'm used to paying a service charge in City Centre where there is a group of 10 people or more, not just 4 people!

I ordered takeaway from this restaurant for the first time. I ordered salmon in black bean sauce but got a white fish. Incredibly disappointing but it was nice. Just needed more sauce. Butterfly prawns were nice but cold. The duck satay and Szechuan chicken went down a storm. Nice spicy sauces. The egg fried rice was quite dry which I liked as it is less fatty. If my salmon had been delivered and more sauce in the fish dish as it was quite dry I may have awarded a 4*.

Been a few years since our last visit. Bland food spoiled it then...Food was tasty and service was very good...Downside menu is now laminated huge thing rather than a book with pages...Taste is back but some of the class is gone....

I have Been to this restaurant twice in the past 3 weeks ans the food and the service was excellent. We had a set meal for four on both occasions although there was five of us. The background music was really good modern and my children who are both in there 30s said it made there night knowing the music that was played. I will definitely go back soon the staff were lovely as well.

It's been a few years since we last tried the China Garden and it has certainly undergone a makeover in the meantime. We visited at 7.00 pm midweek to an almost empty restaurant and were warmly greeted by the staff. We opted for a set meal for two, (B) I think, and were impressed that they allowed us to change the prawn dish for a much preferred chicken and cashew nuts. We started with yuk-sung which was pretty average but the next course of very plentiful crispy duck and pancakes was delicious. Courses included sweet & sour chicken, beef in black bean sauce and others that I can't remember but all-in-all we enjoyed the meal which together with a shandy and a couple of dry wine spritzers came to about £60. We have subsequently ordered a set meal takeaway which was also pretty good. The "average" score is probably more to do with the fact that Chinese food isn't a particular favourite of mine and generally speaking is not good value for money considering the ingredients used but I would recommend the China Garden.

I have eaten here several times and the food is always good. Haven't had a Chinese takeaway for a long time as wherever you get it from and whatever you order it all tastes the same. Had a takeaway from China Garden last night and it was excellent, fresh and just as good as if we had eaten in the restaurant and was delivered hot straight from the wok. It may cost a little more than your average Chinese takeaway as don't forget this is a restaurant but sooo worth it. The bill for 2 people was I think reasonable though at £27 but we had several dishes to share and it would easily have fed 3 big eaters - highly recommended.

Just returned from enjoying the Sunday buffet at £10.95 pp. Good food, but truly fantastic service. Once the owner knew I was a veggie nothing was too much trouble. She provided me with my own yuk sung and cooked me up a delicious bespoke mushroom dish. This was just for starters! We'll be back very soon!

I have visited this restaurant many time over many years and have always enjoyed it- however they have recently refurbished the restaurant and done some interior changes so This was my first visit since re opened - I was sceptical about whether the changes would be detrimental .. This is certainly NOT the case ! The food quality seems nicer than previously (even tho it was nice before!) The new interior was also lovely and the bar position a vast improvement! Great place before refurbishment and now even better !!

I first visited this restaurant two weeks ago. The food was excellent and the service was good. I returned a week later to pick up a takeaway and was made to feel just as welcome as I had been on my first visit. Th staff are friendly and attentive and seem to be knowledgeable about the cuisine. I would highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back.

The food was very nice, the service was ok. The staff seemed very friendly and helpful. We will go back again as I enjoyed the food. I went mid-week so it was very quiet, but I can imagine that it gets very busy over the weekend.

An impromptu stop on the way home. Visited here some years ago with the family. It was excellent then and still pretty good now. Delightful Hong Kong lady owner tells me she's head cook too. Daughter serving. A quick roast duck and egg fried rice. Very good but only small portion. No egg in the rice. More than made up for by warm hospitality... plenty of time to chat. Read me very well when I thought the brandy was a bit pricey. Got a bottle of caramel vodka out for me to try. I tried it quite extensively! Simple dish plus 2 glasses of house white = £22.00p A bit steep, but the experience was very good. Openly confesses to providing 'Chinese' cuisine for the British palate. Probably wisdom in that.

Lovely building. Used to be very good. We do not eat in many Chinese restaurants as in our opinion in UK they are often poor.But this use to be one of the few exceptions. It was very empty on our weekday visit. Spoke to the young women who is the owner. She has lost heart as she says Chinese food is so cheap they cannot afford a good chef! So we suggested they made it into a better class Chinese, the building lends itself to that. Put up the prices, employ a good chef and market it properly.Her daughter is wanting to turn it into a take away or buffet if you eat in , Sounds like it will just be cheap Chinese, or English style Chinese food for people on low incomes. So not much hope of it earning much of an income. Women was very nice but they had not heard of trip advisor and we tried to get her to understand how it works.

Just had a meal at the China Garden. Not been there for a while and standards and food have slipped. Portions are smaller and some of the finer touches are missing. Food was ok but nothing special and for what we paid I feel we did not get value for money.

Went to this restaurant for a meal with my partner. The greeting was fine but went downhill from there. The staff were disinterested, almost to the point of being rude. Altogether not a pleasant experience.

Went on a friday night had set meal , service was fast , food a little salty but hot the only thing about the this place i dindnt like was the dreadfull decor , its like going to a old peoples home that happens to have a chinese grandmother ! We live nearby and have not been to this restaurant for a long time. A visit from my father prompted us to go and for a quiet Tuesday evening couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised!The food was excellent and good value for the quality, the service was superb. Highly recommended. Will definitely return.

We went there as a one off with no idea what to expect. Car park was tiny and was practically full so i expected the restaurant to be full of people but amazingly it wasnt. the staff were very friendly and warm and welcoming. they were very efficient and gave us anything we requested. The food came out quickly, was piping hot and absolutely delicious! i had the chicken with green pepper and black bean sauce with chicken fried rice and it is by far the best chinese i have experienced! the rice was cooked perfectly and the chicken just fell apart in the main dish. my friend had sweet and sour prawns with a rice dish which had more prawns in it and again the food was beautiful and perfectly cooked. My only issue is that it is a tad pricey but for the quality of the food we didn't mind paying that bit more. highly recommended!!

Having ordered the a take away I was told that it would arrive in an hour, a long time to wait but acceptable on a busy Saturday night. What was not acceptable was that it was then another hour before I recieved my meal and even then only because I went to the resturant to collect the order. On arrival I expected to be greated with an apology but was instead met with a stressed and angry manager who was quite frankly the rudest person I have ever met. I had prepaid for the and order and when I asked for a refund she refused but gave me £2 for the delivery charge, a complete insult! The worst thing of all was that had I not gone to pick up the food I doubt they would have delivered anything or refunded me. I believe this is tantamount to theft.

I would agree with the previous review that the service at the China Garden can be slow, this may be because there were only two waiters when we visited, or maybe because my local chinese restaurant is so good with their service this sets a very high benchmark!However I disagree that the food was "takeaway standard" as we had excellent food (once it arrived!) and left full and happy. The sizzling satay chicken was particularly delicious.I would also recommend the house white, which was pretty good for bog standard house wine.All in all I can't complain and would go back if I was in the area again.

We visited this restaurant and were confident we would be served with a good meal following our visits a long time ago. The restaurant was cold, service we exceptionally slow and food was akin to a poor take-away. The set meal was expensive for what we got. Another couple on a nearby table told us that they were regular diners but would not visit again. Service was so bad that we asked for the automatically added service charge to be removed.
