First order and will be last. Chicken in chow mein was horrendous, very dark , dry meat that didn't look or taste like chicken, went in bin. Husband had chicken balls which he said were lovely, we both thought the fried rice was horrible and it too went in bin. Gloopy and tasted stale. Heard good things about this place, maybe it was having an off night but I won't take chance again, do not recommend.

Very nice food, good service and very honest people. I left my phone at their shop and they called me to let me know, they kindly posted it back to me without any fuss. Not often do you meet such kind and honest people.

Easy ordering online, payment online, food was ready nice on time. Pleasant staff. We enjoyed the noodles, skewers, and springrolls, and we really like those prawn crackers.

Disappointed with our meal: the shredded beef was VERY chewy, the fried rice was just rice doused in soy sauce, the prawn Kung Po gloopy and the chicken chow mein greasy. Flavour was minimal. First time we ordered from here and doubt we'll be back. Cash only but you can order online. But I wouldn't bother if I were you.

Cash only (in 2024???) with no cashpoint anywhere close, ontop of this they had a table in the door way so we couldn't enter?? Left and went somewhere else, such terrible service not even interested in the food

Like it here, the food is amazing. Staff are friendly. we had the shredded beef in a chilli sauce chicken curry and beef chow main no complaints

I had assumed they had helped fix my online order issue but they pared me off on some “we can’t see orders on the website so it was never made” but you can forget a refund. Chased for over a week when it happened and neither the restaurant or the website on hubbox can sort it.

Was on way home last night and for my dinner,I was starving, it was going to either St Andrews chippy and a kebab or chicken curry from China express, Totally wrong move the chicken tasted a bit off,i have had this happen before,should be using fresh food.it can be good sometimes.

Ordered a thai green curry and it had such a bad flavour , weird dried onions on top which had turned into a mush… so i called and asked for a replacement . They were happy enough to do this. So this time i tried crispy shredded chicken in a sweet chilli sauce. This was even worse . The flavours were so bizarre and the chicken was soggy. Did get my husband to try both to make sure I was imagining it . Will not be buying here again .

Food arrived cold, chips were definitely from previous night! beef and black bean was rotten couldn't eat it!! infact couldn't eat any of the 4 dishes ordered!! AVOID this place!

We ordered last night a chicken curry, lemon chicken, orange chicken, fried rice and free prawn crackers as order over £25. Delivery was fast but we noticed the prawn crackers were missing so we called and asked because they never delivered if they can thrown in some spring rolls with the crackers. They delivered the spring rolls were nice but the crackers were a tiny bag other Chinese takeaways give more Anyway the chicken curry was presented with not cubed chicken but chopped ripped chicken and only 6 pieces and hardly any onions and contained no spice whatsoever disappointed then the lemon chicken had no lemon slices and the orange chicken had no orange slices and both dishes contained pineapple chunks and the tasted in both were pineapple juice it was not nice we did not order a pineapple chicken dish and on top of this the chicken was tough in the lemon chicken and resembled shop bought frozen chicken steaks, the fried rice was spot on but if you pay over £27 you expect authentic Chinese tasting dishes and god knows what happened but the dinner was not nice at all. We have ordered here in the past and the food then was the same order and were all spot on What happened this time is truly disappointing

I ordered honey and chilly crispy beef and noodles what I got was battered chicken some didn’t even have chicken in it With a flavourless sauce could have been sweet and sour Sauce, with noodles that smelt strange. Disappointing to say the least.

First time getting food from here all I can say is that we will definitely be going back. The food was delicious 😋 also the customer service from ordering to the delivery guy was excellent.. added on first time getting a munchie box it was lovely well worth the money

Have ordered a few times and have never been let down once delivery outstanding the staff are amazing and the food is unreal and delicious and it helps seeing it on there Facebook page so we can try different things a would defo try it if you get a chance you won't be disappointed

I recently had a delivery from this place and i have to say the food was superb the delivery was early and the customer service was second to none. I ordered special fried rice and a salt and pepper munchie box. The family and myself Thoroughly enjoyed the food and will definitely be back. I highly recommend this place you will not be disappointed. 5 stars on all levels. Well done guys.

Ordered here before and always enjoyed. Although got a collection last night for the salt and pepper chips to be burnt, 2x portions of rice were cold and the chicken in both seperate portions was old and rubbery and we found something crunchy through the middle which put us both off the entire meal. Really disappointed especially for the price and travelling to receive this food. Will not be going back.

Sent the wrong order, took over an hour to send replacement food. Terrible service, its a shame because the food is nice, but if you can't get all the food at one time then that doesn't really matter.

Good selection of dishes, very tasty and 10 to 15 min for collection. Keep going back here. Never disappointed.

Love this place ma gave salt and chilli shredded beef is the bomb!!!... Realllll decent prices..I get a shredded beef rice nd ether curry sauce or BBQ all fir 10pounds. How can u beat that lol... Always fone to collect.. Always no longer than 5 mins normally.. No more than 10 even Wen there busy AF and they're busy everytime iv been.. But my food still always bn spot on. And great friendly service.. so thank u for all the scrump diddly umtious Food Lol. Xxx

The food was so bad, no other words

Great food, only thing I dislike is that they do not deliver to the Leith area but apart from that it was great.

Don't go often.but last two times items have been missing waste of phoning as they say was not on bill(they said this first time you can't win).food that you get is alright.but will try somewhere else. Ps was on bill counted up myself.

I got a beef curry and fried rice and chicken curry and fried rice they both were disgusting fried rice was burnt beef curry the beef was like rubber and tuff worst curry place in Portobello if you want to waste your money go there will deffo not be going back there do think the cooks can't cook properly they need a proper chef in there the place has went down hill so avoid this place

China express portobello is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a Chinese takeaway. Only takes cash which is a major inconvenience especially during this challenging times where we shouldn’t really be handling cash. Waited an hour for delivery, once it arrived the driver came to the door with the gloves on all ripped fingers hanging out. I handed him the note and he digs in his pocket with the gloves on for change, I told him to keep it. I ordered a beef curry completely bland no flavour at all the curry sauce was like a jelly and meat was rubbery. Would definitely not recommend please avoid this place at all costs.

Was the worst food I have ever had the chicken was raw I never knew until I ate it . I was ill all that weekend. I used to love this place there steaks were top class but now I will never ever come back here again.

This place is great. Run by friendly people, the food is great and a big plus for me is that you can bring your own packaging if you are trying to cut back on plastic waste.

Probably one of the better chinese takeaways in the area. The rest on porty high street are pretty crap, only one or two in musselburgh that are any good either. Free prawns crackers & mini spring rolls. Good selection of sauces for tea crispy shredded meats! Salt n chilli ribs are epic as well and one of the best special fried rice dishes I've had in a while. Ignore the eejit called kysteyana or whatever the twats name is, seriously who orders an omelette from a takeaway? Muppet

Disgusting food. Had few courses- none of them fresh. Meat was very old. Just one thing prepared freshly was omelette- burnt and soaked in water. Worst spent 40£. Shared it with friends and now all of us feel sick. Don't recommend this place. If you're hungry, order pizza. Even takeaway from a supermarket is better..and cheaper. They are busy just because there's no other take away in the area.

The food isn't overly exciting, just your standard Chinese food, but it is nice and priced really well too. The staff are a bit strange, they don't seem to communicate with each other very often, and can be a bit slow but it's still a good place to go.

Me & my family have been going to China Express for the last 5 years, and we have always had excellent takeaways, our favourite meal is Lar Chee Chicken, king prawn crispy noodles (we get Ken & his wife to make the noodles spicy). There BBQ spare ribs are a meal on there own, not to mention the Crabmeat & Sweetcorn soup. Meals are also hot and there is plenty. Very very friendly staff. Well worth a visit. Garry

One of the best Chinese food you can get

It's been a long time since I ordered a meal from here but it was well worth the wait. Still good quality meals and friendly staff.

Tried ordering via JustEat at 9pm. It was confirmed by China Express for delivery at 9.55pm. It didn't arrive, so phoned up to be told they hadn't received my order, claimed JustEat wasn't working and hung up on me. Very rude man!! I spoke to JustEat who then tried to contact them to be hung up too. Shocking service! Never again will I order from here.

***do not order happy meal it is a rip off a bunch of starters ** I got a couple of spare ribs swimming in sauce, the chicken balls were to dip separately in the sweet and sour sauce which was to me as another starter I was left with boiled rice to eat alone and the worse was the duck pancakes with no Duck advertised as a starter. this place is a rip off , they play tricks and the manager is cheeky. please stay far from this takeaway.

Cheap food, decent taste. They however don't accept card payments so need cash. There's a cash machine about 3 minutes down the road though.

Came here thinking that relatively authentic Asian cuisine would be on the menu but the store did not even offer chopsticks. However, our order was completed quite quickly.

I have decided to write this review here as just eat didn't publish it. I ordered the chefs spring rolls. They were good. I ordered chicken chow mien, not bad. My shredded chilli chicken had raw batter. The chips were obviously cooked in old fat. I is quite appalling that food like this is being sent out to customers. Truly awful. Do not waste your money.

Have ordered from here many times and it has always been satisfactory. Of the many Chinese Takeaways I've tried, this one has been reliable. The food is good, but not exceptional, and the delivery has always been quick and accurate.

I didn't enjoy the food as I thought it was dry and old. I have never ordered from here and probably won't again. After receiving abuse from another takeaway joint, I ordered from here (guess my luck is down). Chow mein, prawn toast and salt & chilli ribs were all dry and not very pleasant. Like I said I guess being abused over the phone by one takeaway and then receiving not the best food by another is some kind of bad luck! Pros: well priced - good delivery time Cons - product wasn't to taste
