China Dragon in Chesterfield

Used to love this place and used to be reasonably priced but 7 of us went last night and it was disappointing. They have put the prices up yet reduced the menu so three of the dishes we normally order had been taken off. One of which was seaweed!! What Chinese doesn’t do seaweed ? Found dishes were more bland and portion sizes even smaller. I get they dont want food waste but it was embarrassing keep asking for more of the same dish. Ordered mixed platter of starters and not enough of everything - you would assume they’d bring out 7 of everything but they only provided a few of each. Daughter had missed wings off her starter order and later asked for them and she was refused being as we had already ordered mains (even though they hadn’t even arrived at the table). What difference did it make as all you can eat anyway so left a sour taste to the experience.

My daughter took me here for mother's day meal and it was absolutely beautiful and the service was wonderful! Thank you China Dragon we will be returning soon! The crispy Chicken In lemon sauce and the roast pork in honey sauce is amazing and so was the unlimited starters! For all that we ate it came to around £23 each which included drinks. Only slight criticism, which is just personal preference, wish there was option of dessert, which my daughter who has autism is in a routine of when go out for meals.

To dine in is lovely. Don’t be put off by the decor as the food and staff make up for it in every way

First time tried this restaurant ... certainly won't be the last as very pleased with the food and service. Would have given it full five stars but drinks were too expensive.

We travled from Sheffield and was abit sceptical due to previous reviews but honestly we walked away happy and said we will definitely return, yes potion sizes are small but we thought this was actually a good idea so you could have the choices of more dishes and try more things without wasting it Only minor thing we would say is there is not just one person sticking to serving one table. But overall I would definitely recommend to people and was well worth travelling!! Even my 3 children loved it.

I used to recommend this to everyone, food has gone down hill massively your allocated 2hours and they either take 40 mins to bring the main courses or don't bother at all. It's no longer worth the money as portion sizes are just enough to fill a toddler.

For all the years of getting a meal from China Dragon tonight I was so disappointed by the meal . I think it's changed hands and I won't be using them again wish is sad say.

Love it here been coming for many years service good and food lovely however some things are missing from menu and portions smaller but the main issue for my review is to advise customers to take a nice thick jumper as it was freezing - we were all sat with coats on this spoilt the evening and there was no sign of christmas.

Ordered a meal for 2 people on a Saturday night, our order was taken with no delivery time given. 2 hours later and our food was still not delivered. We rang the restaurant numerous times and we were advised our food was only just cooking almost 2 hours after ordering a small set meal for 2. Will not be using the restaurant again, very poor service. Would have appreciated them to tell us how long the food would be as we placed our order so we could go elsewhere. Wouldn’t recommend using them.

When you walk up to the premises and in the building, you do not expect the food to be so amazing! Yes it looks a bit tired, but I have visited the China Dragon many times, and I have never been disappointed with the food! For a set fee, you can pick anything you want off the menu and you can eat as much as you can! Indigestion remedies for afterwards is a must, because you will want to try everything on the menu. The staff who work there are all very friendly and accommodating too. We will be back soon!

Lovely all you can eat chinese food made freshly cooked to order. The portions are really small, so order more than one portion if you want to share a dish. The menu has changed since we last went, they no longer do crispy seaweed or foo yung dishes and you can't order starters at the same time as mains which we used to like to do. The chow mein also doesn't come in sauce anymore so it's not great. Cost about £20 each to eat in on a Friday evening. I recommend takeaway rather than eating in as the menu has/had better choices like chow mein in sauce and the portion sizes were good (unless the takeaway menu has changed as well - hope not) Service was fast but we felt rushed and watched and there weren't many smiles from all of the staff. The lady who has been there years was lovely as usual.

Firstly I can't fault the service always smiling anything to help. The food is just sooo boring no seaweed no mussels there just isn't any variations on the menu. When this place first started it was 4/5 star without a doubt now tho I'd give it a ok 3 only because of the good service.

Piping hot food salt and pepper chicken is the best I’ve had!!

Every time i drive past, it's full. I know why now, we ordered a takeaway last night and it was hands down the best we've had.

The food was amazing, came out very hot, quickly and tasted perfect! The service was equally amazing and I couldn’t recommend it enough! The waiting staff were very informative and helpful too! The satay chicken skewers, crispy chilli beef and salt and pepper prawns were incredible! Overall an amazing experience and we will definitely be attending again soon!

I’ve been to China Dragon years ago. The food seems to have got better. The fact it’s all you can eat, and the reasonable price, you honestly can’t beat it. Great service too. Small portions so you can try a bit of everything. Minor issue being the fact you can’t order starter and mains at the same time (didn’t used to be this way) which is frustrating when other members of the table aren’t ready for mains but others are, or you want to go and get some more tea smoked chicken starter during your mains which shouldn’t be a problem.

Food not bad but so slow its a joke, I assume they do this to restrict what you can order. We had been there two hours and still had not received all our main course order!

Other reviewers are stating they serve small portions, this is true but what they are failing to tell us is they will bring out more of the same as many times as you wish, it’s a clever way of doing things because your food is always fresh, The food here is the best you’ll find anywhere in the area, The girls who serve you are polite and friendly nothing is to much trouble! I wish others reviews would tell the truth! 5 minutes after taking my photos the restaurant was heaving with customers. I’ve been coming here for 10 years so that speaks for itself.

I recently ordered take-away from this Chinese restaurant and it was amazing! The food was so good, I couldn't stop eating. The staff were really nice and made the ordering process easy. One of my favorite dishes was the Kung Pao chicken, it had a nice kick to it. The fried rice was also really good, it was crispy and delicious. We also ordered some dumplings, they were so tasty. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for some good Chinese food for take-away. The food and service were great and I'll definitely be ordering from them again!

Wow fabulous Chinese food. The outside looks ok nothing spectacular, but please venture in. Open the front door and there is a tiny reception area that opens into a large room with tables set nicely and staff very busy waiting tables. You must book as this little diamond is super popular with people that know it. We booked a table for 4 which we were shown to immediately. Our drinks order was taken within 5 minutes and appeared straight away. We placed our starter order again it came super quickly, hot plates too. Oh my goodness I had tea smoked chicken in a light batter it was delicious. Then chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce and then pork in honey, yummy. Everything is cooked to order but no long waits. Forget piles of grey bean sprouts and loads of rice! Portions are sufficient so no wastage. If you want more you order more. We had chips and rice (Joyce) 😊. £18 a head and you have the table for 2 hours. We will definitely go again.

We've just been for the first time after driving past daily for years! The food was amazing! Fresh, well cooked, hot, delicious! It is exceptional value for money and service was outstanding, we will definitely be returning! Tips for first timers- portions are small but you can order as much as you like so you can try a bit of everything, we found them to be the perfect size.. book a table! It is a small restaurant and very busy

Delicious food, all comes out piping hot and in smaller portion sizes which is ideal for trying lots of different dishes. The service is outstanding, staff were so friendly and attentive.

Managed to get a group of 4 of us in even though they were quite busy, food was really hot and tasty, starters came out thick and fast although when we changed to mains it was a little slow(understandable being busy). Personally £16.90 for all you can eat is good value and not a bad word to say about any of it!

I’ve only been here twice, but they were the two best Chinese meals I have ever had. The staff were friendly and efficient, attentive without being intrusive. I especially liked the fact that the portions were smaller than in other places, which meant we could try more things. I shall definitely be going back.

Ordered the takeaway for the first time. Ribs were very fatty (ribs are hit & miss) so I wasn't surprised. Chicken chow mein noodles were amazing, but chicken was slimy. Chips were good, curry sauce amazing, chicken balls good. Would definitely order again.

We booked and arrived looking forward to a lovely eveming with our family. We had been before and were unhappy with the all you can eat deal as it was very expensive for what we ate. We intended to order from the proper menu but unfortunately it turns out this is the only restaurant that doesn't have one. Undeterred, and happy to be out for the evening, we agreed to the all you can eat but after an issue last time mentioned that our little girl would just like a potion of chips. This was a problem! She was still going to be charged for a full buffet. The manager/owner was consulted and 'the kid still pays'. You may think this is a miss quotation, but this is what he said. We paid for pur drinks and left. I could double the length of this review talking about the elasticated seat covers hiding the grotty chair or the super fast demand for our order on arrival.

The food here is always wonderful and I cannot fault the food. There is a one way valve - once you've had the starters you move onto the main menu but there is no going back. You might fancy something on the starter list to go with your main dishes but its a no. - doesn't take away from the 5* though

I order from this place every week for delivery and the food is usually very nice. Each time the order is £30. However tonight half way through my order they decide to tell me the kitchen is closed at 10:15 as they shut at 11 and everyone has gone home. I said its only just 10:15 now and i can clearly hear noise from customers in the background so how are you closed and why have you just taken my order?? The reply was “ sorry we are closed”. Ok no problem i wont be ordering again now out of principal. I could understand if i lived miles away but I'm down the road!!! One lost and unhappy ex customer!!!!

We nearly cancelled our booking due to some of the bad reviews on here but we are so very glad we didn’t as the food and atmosphere was really good. We were there for our sons 15th birthday. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The decor is a little tired and could definitely do with make over but the food and service was great. We visited on a Wednesday and we couldn’t believe how busy the place was, barely a spare table in the restaurant which tells you they’re doing well. All of the food was top quality, freshly cooked to order and piping hot. A special mention to the terrific ladies who were serving us tonight on how lovely Smiley and kind they were with us and our children nothing was too much trouble and they really made us feel welcome. We will be 100% be returning. I would say compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area it’s worthy of five stars.

We have previously eaten at this restaurant a number of times. And had always been so so overwhelmed with the standard of the food & presentation. We had not visited for a while & decided to visit on a Tuesday evening a number of weeks ago. And unfortunately we were so UNDERWHELMED. The food was poorly presented, although edible. But not to the usual standard! And seemed like a lot of the food was deep fried. The restaurant opening time was billed as 5 pm. We & others were left in the cold until 5:20 pm. I would say as always when we have visited. The waiting staff at the tables are amazing, however, at this present time the foods isn't! Please up your game.

My husband and I went to this restaurant on Thursday night with 6 others and can honestly say it was lovely, the staff were attentive , the food was lovely and plentiful. The rules have changed slightly it is still all you can eat but now once you have moved on to main courses you can’t go back to the starter menu . The portions are small but you can order as many as you wish and the food is always cooked fresh and piping hot .. we did have a bad experience once before covid when the staff were rude and made you feel as though you were begging for food but this now seems to have been resolved . Glad we gave it one last try as we will now defo return

Really, yes really ! Ordered a takeaway last Saturday night with friends who had travelled from Hull with their kids. We ordered takeaway and was told an hour. Absolutely fine with that. Arrived within time but nothing labelled so guess work required. It soon transpired that one of the 4 adult dishes ordered ( with 3 adult witnesses as proof ) was missing, so phoned them to advise and was told any new orders was another hours wait - hang on a minute - a mistake on their part had clearly been made and we were told it would be rectified in an hour !!! Anyway, after they put the phone down they called back and realised the errors of their ways and we did get the food (albeit microwaved) a few minutes later. The food was consumed without any positive comments. Our choice of takeaway was a DISASTER. The food was bland, tasteless ( needed salt and pepper and a whole lot more to get a flavour ) and the 'chicken', an insult to a proper chicken, was simply lumps of tasteless slime. Most of it got chucked in the bin without a word. Phoned Ray the next day, he said you should have phoned that night to complain, what, to make the evening even worse for our friends, I don't think so. So I phoned to lodge our dissatisfaction and was told you need to bring the waste up so we can examine it ??? So he wanted me to empty the contents of my kitchen bin inc left over dog food etc and bring to restaurant for his examination, is that compliable with environmental health regs ? Anyway I declined to lower myself to such standards and asked for the manager Sam to ring me back so I could explain how disappointed I was with my local Chinese.l Needless to say I'm still waiting for his call 6 days later …will never ever go near again.

This restaurant has a great atmosphere and is nicely furnished.The food is delicious and the all you can eat buffet is great value. The service was very professional and friendly.

Thursday evening at 7 so busy but not too busy. Parking a bit of a challenge as limited. Worth it though. Menu is £14.50 per head but for that you can have as many starters as you like but once you order your main you cannot go back. Food was really tasty and service fine.

The standard of food in this Chinese restaurant is amazing. Probably the best eat all you can restaurant I have ever been too. Every dish was so tasty and well presented I couldn’t even choose a favourite.

Soggy chicken and burnt yum sung. Delivery time was also an hour and a half and was then half an hour late on top of that.

After eating very little & not seeing our son at christmas due to illness we planned a family meal here.we have been coming here since it first opened.although not as often as Wed like lately.as we like to eat early the staff were very attentive as not busy.we like going on a Sunday as they open from 2pm & we can take our time.the good was really lovely as usual & all freshly cooked.although portions aren't very big ,you can ask for as many starters as you want.but once you come off starters you can't go back.I think this is same at most/all Chinese.the staff aren't always pushing you for more drinks,which we have found the problem with a lot of restaurants.it was lovely spending a couple of hours with our son in nica surroundings with lovely food.can't praise this restaurant enough.I think it depends what time you go as too the service etc.obviously if they really busy you not going to see it at its best.the only down side I have is that I always find it cold in here

Having never been here before and living in the same village for along time a friend suggested we go for her son's birthday meal... wow we weren't disappointed (a bit shocked when walked in to see how small the dining room was) ( we booked and was busy and walking past always looks busy so booking is a must) we were a party of 15... the food was always hot and very tasty... we never waited for plates to be cleared away or more food to be brought out the staff were all pleasant and couldn't do enough to make sure we all enjoyed the food and atmosphere highly recommended and will be returning

Will not be coming back here again!Before we even got through the door pretty much was given a dirty look followed by clock watching even though it states 11.30 on the door.we arrived around 9.15 and felt very rushed and unwelcome. Not a good experience.

Large family visit for a birthday.

Upon recommendation, we visited this unassuming looking establishment for the first time on Saturday.

Ate here on the evening 20/08/18.

The plastic plates are tacky and presentation poor . Starters were dry, over cooked and tasteless. The owner very miserable and didn’t make you feel welcome. The lady waiting on was very pleasant and obliging. The mains were an improvement but still of poor quality. It’s not long before you remember why you stopped visiting and there’s been no improvement since last time.

Thought we would have an early dinner following an early doors drink, worst decision we have made for a long time. Buffet meal for £13.95 extremely disappointing. We ordered 5 different starters all of which we either over cooked, chewy or tasteless. We send the squid back after one mouthful, inedible!. Prawns in batter never been near the sea. Crispy fried duck, dry and chewy, pancakes over cooked and dry. Minced pork in lettuce tasteless. Main courses reasonably acceptable but all rather bland and samey!

A group of us enjoyed the all you can eat buffet, good value at £12.99 on a Wednesday. There is a good choice of food including for vegetarians. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. Food was tasty and the service was good.

My friend and I visited the restaurant for the first time tonight, and we was welcomed by the friendly waiter and waitress. The food was amazing! Quiet honestly the best tasting Chinese food I’ve ever had! The service was great and it was excellent value for money.

This is the third time I've been here. Usually the main guy is on and very obliging. There was another guy who was quiet but helpful. There was a woman helping him bring drinks out and serving food when it was ready. I was disappointed with the way she was handling the good orders from my elderly parents. It is eat all you can...every time we ordered king prawn dishes she seemed very reluctant to deliver and came out with one dish not two. We had to ask where it was she seemed to think that one between two people was ok. Then came out not long after with it. She was mumbling words to the guy and smirking which put us off. This wasn't how it was the last visits we have been and so didn't reward a tip. It made my father feel he shouldn't have it. The food when it did come was lovely but service was poor.

Usually at banquet restaurants the food can be very average. China Dragon makes really tasty dishes with lots of flavour. My favourite Chinese and well liked by my son.

6 of us visited China Dragon tonight, I'd highly recommended this restaurant to my 5 friends. Tonight's visit was so much different to my last 5 visits. The restaurant is open till 11.30pm, 10pm the music was turned off, the owner kept looking at his watch and we felt we couldn't order more food. Drinks were taken away before we'd finished. We left at 10.30pm and hadn't even got out the door before it was locked and closed sign put on. The cost of our meal including drinks was £135.00, so wasn't particular cheap, so to get this service was appalling! I'm due to go next week with friends but am already looking for somewhere else!

Have eaten here a few times in the past year and always receive great service from the gentleman who I assume is in charge. Food is very quick to arrive after each round of ordering and would definitely recommend eating here.

El problema con este sitio es la falta de coherencia. Además de pedir por teléfono una pesadilla resultante con platos equivocados, perdidos o simplemente muy pobre. Simplemente nos dieron harto de ser decepcionado o nunca seguro de la calidad de comida. La última gota que colmó el vaso fue una noche de domingo cuando pedimos un menú sencillo para llevar dos. (No difícil) El primer plato que pedimos eran claramente de la buffet el domingo como piezas de pollo estaban de hecho en el entrante de gambas rey! ! Toda la carne y marisco fresco y no fue difícil. Lo mismo aplica a los platos principales. No hace falta decir que no comer la comida que pedimos. ¿Por qué no nos quejamos (esta vez) he oído preguntar? Eso es porque nuestros experiencia nos ha enseñado que simplemente no te molesta. De hecho niegan cualquier responsabilidad o sostienen que toda la comida es fresco y a bla bla bla! Nunca una simple disculpa! ! Y es por eso que no voy a volver a este restaurante. Pobre y la actitud arrogante de los clientes, pero más importante aún, los estándares inconsistentes de la comida. Ten cuidado con lo que pides en un domingo por la noche después de su buffet.
