China Cottage in Barnet

I'm a big fun of this restaurant (specialised take-away). Tasty food and still so cost effective. Also, they provide food so quickly. I was able to pick up my order about 10 minutes after I called. I recommend some of the beef dishes. Beef is tasty, tender and full of flavour.

We have ordered their amazing food for over 25 years……In fact, I used to drive from Camden when I lived there just because the food is delicious! Most definitely THE VERY BEST CHINESE TAKE AWAY IN NORTH LONDON IF NOT LONDON ENTIRELY. It is family run and the owners are so lovely, extremely helpful and food is prepared to order and super fast. In all those years their food has been top notch without fail. I highly recommend the salt and pepper chicken is to die for……but truthfully entire menu is…..order double mini veg spring rolls as they are irresistible.

I Visited this take away on fri 21st April Apon entering this takeaway restaurant you are greated by a lovely lady who was very friendly and knowledgeable about what they sale. This is a small step up into the restaurant which may pose a issue for those with mobility issues. But when you do go through the front door you are met with a large waiting area which is clean and presentable, you also get a lovely smell that sets your taste buds tingerling. I ordered the mixed hors d'oeuvres, chicken chow mein, sweet and sour chicken balls and special fried rice. All for a little over £20 which is exceptionally well priced within the current climate of price rises. You can tell that the food is freshly cooked and when you taste the food it certainly confirms the freshness. The portion size where large and certainly left me very full. Overall I have to recommend this Chinese restaurant and I will definitely be going back again for more. And to the restaurant I thank you for a lovely meal.

It's positively the best Chinese food I have had, especially the best in London. My partners family have been customers for years and love it. Everything was incredibly fresh and homemade :) The crispy noodle dishes are particularly delicious!

I love their roast pork fried rice and their soups. The food is not too oily as some other takeaway place. I have been ordering their food many times. Very recommended 👌 Affordable price too!

Excellent Chinese take away food at reasonable prices

BESTTT Chinese in the whole of London. Nothing compares!!! I’ve been eating here for 20 years and have never found anywhere else that makes Chinese this well, no where has ever come close to how good this place is. My family and I have lived all over the place, London, Birmingham, Essex, the Midlands, Hertfordshire and we all agree that this is the best Chinese ever. I have travelled across the country just to eat from here. It’s the best best besttttt. The owner is the loveliest Woman in the world. I could not recommend this place more highly!! The quality, the taste, the price, the service. Everything. 10/10

Whoa! That was tasty and fresh....I really planned on taking a few pics but ate it too fast. Ordered hot sour soup, chilli beef ribs starter, sweet and sour king prawn, house special noodles and egg fried rice. Obviously it was to share! All really fresh and not greasy at all. I'll definitely be back.

It's exactly what you want a traditional Anglo Chinese takeaway to be. Very tasty, very fresh, not haute cuisine (that's a good thing for a takeaway), good portions and excellent value. The hot & sour soup was hot and sour and full of tasty bits; sweet sour pork had a good mix of lean pork and veg, beef and black beans was similarly good, with vegetables and those chewy tasty mushrooms, and the rice was perfect. I'll be going back!

This has been my go to Chinese take-way for over 20 years. The standard is consistently high & great location if getting off at West Finchley tube. The salt and pepper prawns are a regular purchase. The sichuan dishes could and should be more spicy.

Tried this last night first time and had a few different dishes to try out , I was really impressed by the freshness of each dish and the taste of them. Have not had Chinese in years as being put off elsewhere but this place it’s absolutely delicious. The king prawns were cooked to perfection, everything else really tasty.. Would definitely recommend!

Cheap takeaways, great food, great service, great accessibility.

Never fails great food great service haven't found a better Chinese in London and believe me I have tried hundreds thank goodness its local to me,my kids all enjoy their food seven boys and one girl.

I've been going to this chinese takeaway since I was a kid. All the other chinese takeaways I've had have never topped it and never will. It is for sure the best by far. So grateful to have it as my local. Can't stress enough how tasty it is and how lovely the family are that run it. Never going to stop coming.

A great restaurant. I leave 4 stars for now just because last time's order wasn't quite as mind blowingly good as I remembered. But I am about to order again tonight, lets see hopefully its better. I will update the review accordingly if it deserves that extra, oh so elusive 5***** Update: Not quite as good in the end. Was very hungry so I did eat everything but there was something a bit "unfresh" about the ingredients and slightly greasy. This notwithstanding, I have decided to leave the 4 stars for now based on previous excellent experiences and plan to return for the third and final tasting in about a week or so, stay tuned.

Good food, reasonably priced and decent portions. Sadly the restaurant seems to be closed for the last couple of months.

A family run takeaway, in fact I've been using this place for so long the baby we use to see tucked away behind the counter playing whilst his parents worked the kitchen is now a grown up and often helps in the front. All the dishes taste fresh and not full of MSG as you get with other Chinese takeaways. This place is loved by all who live in the area and it's a bit of a local treasure. If you want to place an order on a Friday or Saturday night plan ahead because they get very busy.

Best Chinese takeaway in Finchley . If they ever decided to deliver, it would be perfect. So many times I have fancied a takeaway but have not had the time to go collect. Such a shame.

I really like the food here. Basic Chinese menu. Plenty i haven't tried but what i have had has been good. You can tell a good Chinese by the pancake rolls...crispy and crunchy not dripping in oil. May have to wait a bit when busy. She doesn't have the art of banter and small talk...abrupt...like most. Annoyingly they close at random times...like when you really fancy a bit.

We order here regularly, very friendly, cheap and cheerful and we never wait longer then 20 minutes for our order. The lady always goes an extra mile to make sure my dads noodles. My dad loves his S7 noodle dish and inbetween his business trips he always visits here at least once.

Better than the restaurants for sure....best in North London? Maybe! Food always fresh and authentic without being over oily or fancy. I vouch for this as proper home cooked style food so you don't feel silly thirsty or unhealthy when you're finished eating!

This is an excellent Chinese take-away. As far as I am concerned the best I've had in London. The couple I bought my house from both studied in Beijing and said the food was so authentic it reminded him very much of China.

Good food but had to wait 40 mins instead of the quoted 20mins.

Cannot understand the negative reviews posted here. The best Chinese takeaway for miles around. Hot and sour soup is a must as are the Singapore noodles and the spare ribs with chilli and pepper are great. Pricing perfectly reasonable, and yes at busy times expect to have to a wait, but always worth waiting for.

Best chineese take away in North London. I can realy recommend. I have tried many, but this is the best so far.. It is family run bussiness and they have excellent food, good portions for reasonable price.

Not too good sorry to say, raw squid that tasted like flour and a lamb dish that had no meat just onions. We also ordered some dry bites and had no sauce to come with it, I would have thought that would be an obvious thing. In general it was bland and in my opinion not a good quality Chinese, I've had much better.

This place needs to be shut down. Whatever you order, it tastes the same and it's covered in onions. The worst type of Chinese food from a dirty run down overpriced and MSG infested dirthole.

As expected the service was magnificent. The soft drink and cocktail menu was diverse and tasty. The food was lovely, tasty and surprisingly quick to arrive. The Ice pudding was unique. Pricey but worth it.

Great value and great food. Love Singapore fried rice and seafood fried noodle.

Take Away. Service was excellent as they gave us free Chinese crackers. The food was not oily and was very tasty. The only issue the atmosphere. The atmosphere was plain but the counter was decorated in Chinese items.

Decent size portions, good value food and friendly service characterise this family run take away. Open six nights a week until 11 (not Mondays), very handy for picking up dinner on the way home if you use West Finchley tube station. My personal favourites are the 'Chicken with Onion Peking Style' and the Pepper & Chilli starters (chicken, wings, prawns or ribs).

Well priced, good portions, tasty food and friendly service. I recommend you give it a go!
