Chimes in West Dunbartonshire

Honest feedback, the meal we had did not match the reviews. The spare ribs didn't have much meat, the prawn toast was more a seaseme spread than prawn and the duck with ginger was a congealed tray of MSG... not sure if this a Cantonese specific thing but would try somewhere else rather than order again. Staff pleasant, so nothing personal, just that food wasn't great for us.

Lovely restaurant which is local to us,we were there with friends & couldn't fault it in any way,the staff are so friendly attentive,food is delicious & filling,service was quick & faultless,will definitely be back in the future

Ordered a takeaway for my family they said it would take 1.5 hours. When arriving to collect my order was still not ready and they did not give a rough time. I waited 30mins then asked for an update, they did not help with this. I waited a further 15mins again asked for an update and again they did not help. I ended up leaving the restaurant with out any food and wasting 3 hrs 15mins of my life waiting.

My husband & I were there for dinner with friends & had a beautiful meal,staff were extremely attentive & friendly,very gd value & food was delicious,we will definitely go again

This is a highly regarded restaurant and take away in Jamestown. It is family run and when you go your made to feel like family. It's Asian style brings beauty and warmth served with delicious food. You can sit in or take food away. They also deliver. If you love Asian food then I highly recommend this for you, one of my own personal favourites. X

Lovely meal again in Chimes. Staff were very friendly and food excellent and reasonably priced. Only criticism would be the time it takes for the main meal to arrive, 30 mins, which I think is due to how busy the kitchen is with restaurant and takeaway meals. Overall, it was very good and will visit again.

The worst food we have ever had. The ‘sauces’ in every main dish were a weird gelatinous thick gloopy texture that I’ve never experienced before and never wish to again. We couldn’t stomach any of the main dishes so had to bin them and just ate the chow mein. I’ve had many Chinese meals all over the country and none have ever been like this. Inedible.

Great place to go for food. Went there for a family birthday and they accommodated the 9 of us easily. The food is a bit pricier than other similar places we've been to, however, the portion sizes are definitely larger and the food was really high quality. The staff were very attentive without being overwhelming.

Spent £40 on meal for the wife and I the got chicken satay. Was dry chewy sauce was caked in salt I had chicken with tomato tasted OK but came home and was sick wife had a sore stomach first time there and be my last never again

Came to visit parents and collected a carry out. Even Though in the past we have eaten in. We were not disappointed meal was lovely and hot and a nice amount . We will be back again next time we visit

I usually use Chimes to order Chinese and always was happy. Ordered beef chow mien few times before, everything was fine. Ordered it couple of days ago and beef was so tough, chewy and dry and not much taste in dish at all. Very disappointed

We went on a quiet Wednesday evening but the staff were so lovely and attentive, asking us about the rest of our Highlands trip. We ordered prawn toast (huge portion) and two mains with egg fried rice (we were given more than enough rice!) and our waiter offered us top ups on prawn crackers too. We left so full! Thanks for a lovely meal :)

Hopless came for night away and told they deliver no problem to where I was staying phoned 1 hour later and said they couldn't deliver only 5 minutes up the road and being diabetic I nearly died

Recently had a takeaway excellent food and service

Food was great but the restaurant was a wee bit cold inside. Understandable considering energy costs at the moment. Visited again more recently and the food was great as you would expect at Chimes. However, we waited almost an hour and a half for our main course which was a bit longer than you would expect. It was really busy both in the restaurant and takeaway and I think the kitchen was swamped with orders. Good to see local restaurants with good trade again.

Ordered from here for a pick up and in my order was included salt and chilli chicken with extra chillies I ordered myself and know that’s what I ordered when we got home and opened it it was simply chicken in a soft batter with nothing else. Phoned them to let them know it was wrong and the man who I believe owns the place totally refused to admit it was wrong I explained to him there was no chilles or anything in it he went on to say that now when you order it you have to ask for it to be marinated I said that’s not true I order it all the time this isn’t what you have sent me I ended up simply putting the phone down because he was talking over me, he offered me to make another one but as we drive half an hour to this place and do often as it’s normally good we couldn’t do that. As a result I’ve came on here. A simple sorry would have done Instead of talking rubbish about marinating salt and chilli chicken and that there’s no chillies in it unless you ask well we asked for extra and got none so how does that work out?

We called here yesterday evening and enjoyed another excellent meal. It was very busy and we were lucky to get a table without booking. Service was nice and relaxed which we prefer allowing time to enjoy each course. I had the crab meat and sweet corn soup to start which was delicious and full of crab meat. My husband had salt and pepper chicken wings which was a very good portion. For mains I had schechuan king prawns and my husband had chilli and garlic chicken. We both had egg fried rice and a portion of fried onions. Everything was hot and tasty and we devoured the lot. For so much food and a couple of glasses of wine the meal was excellent value. It's a place we return to when in Balloch.

Service great and enjoyed my food

At first service was good food was delicious however drinks order was incorrect and waitress asked if my meal was finished when my.mouth was still full and.i couldn't reply she took plate anyway. Definitely room for improvement by serving staff.

Visited after being recommended by friend. Restaurant was not busy but takeaway was doing a roaring trade. Server was very polite and happy to help despite being busy. Salt and pepper starter dishes were basic, simply thrown on to a bed of lettuce with no sauce, but the soup was very tasty. The squid was tasty but the chicken was a little overcooked and the king prawn were coated in a horrid batter (not noted on menu) which was not tasty.

Best restaurant in the Shire lovely family restaurant 💕

We were extremely disappointed with the service and food here when we last visited. We had reserved a table for 6pm as we had two toddlers in our group and we didn't want to delay their bed time by too much. There were only a few patrons dining in but a steady flow of food was being provided to folk asking for take away food. The drinks order was slow to be taken and provided. The starters took a long time to be brought out and tidied away. We asked about our main meals at 7.30 and again at 7.40. They were eventually brought out at 7.50 by which time we were all fed up. I had ordered a crispy duck dish which when it arrived was very disappointing with the fat not being rendered down and was very unpleasant. The manager Graham was spoken to about the poor service but apart from an apology about the time everything had taken nothing was offered to encourage us to return.

Seemed to concentrate on home delivery service rather than restaurant diners. We had to wait 1.5hrs between starter and main courses. After speaking to Graham our food miraculously appeared. Not impressed

Chimes is the best Chinese restaurant I have been too. Have used it many times and have never had anything to complain about.

You always get a good meal here, served by attentive staff and Graham the owner is always welcoming, his chefs are hard working. A good choice of menu and home deliveries. Easy access from the adjacent carpark and good covid measures in place. I recommend Chimes as I have eaten here regularly over the last 25 years.
