Cherry Tree Farm - Farmhouse Inns in South Derbyshire

I had a very lovely meal and my cake was beautiful I was told it was made by someone called emily, give her a raise. Only downside was it was full of pensioners giving me death stares.

Visited today as a spur of the moment treat. Managed to get a table despite not booking & it being very busy. Fantastic service & great selection as always. Even grabbed a cake to go as we were far too full from lunch.

Visited again on the 19/01/2025. Perfect as always, the carvery was stunning. This time around, we decided to use the cake to go service (see picture). Absolutely perfection!!! The carvery was amazing! You can see why it's such a popular place ! The variety was also something I've never come across in a carvey, but the cheesey mash and beef dripping roasts were so morish !!! If you run a pub and want to start a carvery, do what these do. Faultless throughout.

Went there Saturday 18th at 6.30 a party of 8 service not good and carvery was very poor no gravy no Yorkshire puddings etc and was rushed out at 10 o’clock .. not a good experience

Waited long time to get service ordered drinks had carvery waited in queue for a long time get food went to table drinks were cold .started to eat food which was also cold asked for a refund didn't get full refund £10sort thanks for nothing last time I'll be going back

We went on the 18th jan. Took absolutely ages to served. Was told No staff available people phoned in sick Got hot drinks. Which unfortunately went cold whilst waiting for someone to eventually start serving food Lot people walked out However we decided to stay in the queue When finally got ours it was cold Lady offered to put it in microwave which we declined Got refund when we got home i checked the refund to find it was someone else's. So now out of pocket Very unhappy were regular customers

We were in a party of 10 for a birthday celebration and all had a carvery. We waited in the queue behind the first two people for 20 mins without service and at 12.20 they walked off to go elsewhere. There were only 2 meats available turkey and gammon as the beef was said to take 45 mins cooking time when the meals were purchased. When it came to my turn there were two distictive undercooked pink/red spots on the turkey so that was a no no even though the server disgreed. The sauces etc were not put out. We were told on entry that 3 staff had phoned in sick, perhaps employing more staff is necessary as queues were long at the bar and the carvery. The waitress came to collect the plates off the table, then returned to collect empty glasses. She took mine which still had water in it and when challeged asked if I wanted a replacement which I agreed to. That never arrived! I used the toilets near to the main door and the taps only gave a dribble of water to wash your hands. One cubicle was out of action. With such a busy venue all toilet/ handwashing facilities should be functional. As a regular visitor there this was the worst visit I'd made and am rethinking about another visit.

Greatest carvery in the history of carverydom!

Terrible customer service, we walked out after 30 minutes, what we booked for wasn't available on the day we went. We also paid a £10 deposit which they would've refund. We complained to the person in charge no manager available. We left our details for them to contact us.

Midweek lunch with my family excellent value for money food was amazing spoilt for choice staff very attentive they could not do enough for you and my Abbott was that good had another while waiting for the rest of the drinks will definitely be back

Plenty of availability for 8 of us, staff was really helpful with everything we asked prices was fab and food was lovely.

We went for a carvery because we had a email from you. We live at Findern and like to walk to the Cherry tree have a meal and a drink then walk home. I spoke to the lady who collected the plates because the Beef and the gammon that I had was delicious. She said she would tell the chef. We really enjoyed the meal but we always do.

Tables were clean, seating was fast. Turkey was incredibly dry though and essentially inedible. Gammon was lovely though!

It's carvery city!! Sunday evening around 7pm, no queue, great carvery, followed by a food coma......

Lovely food, good service but the only let down was there was some older boys in the children’s play area that was extremely loud and throwing around the soft play and hurting others. The parents didn’t get involved so I couldn’t work out who they were and unfortunately it put us off our meal as my little boy who is only a toddler got hurt. I know this isn’t the staff at the cherry tree’s fault but I wish they hadn’t been in there as they were too old and rough

Carvery was not nice today. Beef was very tough and the food was cold. Not surprising the food was cold, the whole place was cold. Did hear other people complaining about the food. I Did complain but the staff didn’t seem to care. Won’t be going back. Waste of money.

I had the carvery, had to scrape the mash out, no cauliflower cheese, no gravy. Stood around waiting for the dude to come out and replenish, but it didn't happen. Probably won't bother again for a long while

Love it! ...But is too bad for my waistline, soo bad....but food there, oh my!!! My favorite place to visit with friends and family. As I said I LOVE IT!!!😊

Usually my go to place but this time tables were sticky drinks took 30mins to come after food. Man serving carvery was miserable and gave us the worst bits. Food wasn't edible at all tried to complain but woman just walked off. Man with the bun gave me a dirty look and just walked off when asked about dessert. Young Asian lad credit to the place 👏

Well visited new years eve and what can I say food was great A massive thank you to Sarah for sorting everything out for us a very much changed pub since our last visit

85% staff were completely unprofessional and rude, wait times were awful, they lost our order for a while which was pre order. Luckily the food is nice or this visit would have been nothing more than a disaster. This was our Christmas dinner as we didn’t have one on the day, and it was spoilt by the staff and atmosphere. Even I wondered ‘where’s Julie’ by the end of ordering drinks, one staff member said ‘I’ll lose my job or walk by the end of the day’ in front of all customers at the bar.

Went for breakfast today. What a disappointment. Sausage cheap and tasteless. Bacon looked and tasted like it was 2 weeks old. Eggs hard and scrambled swimming in water. Toast was made using stale bread. Hash browns were cold. Mushrooms were ok…. I would never return to this place again. 0/10, if I could give it a worse rating, I would!!!!!

This used to be a good carvery, but it has gone down hill. Cold food poor quality food, very tough veg and pudding the parsnips can be used as a weapon 🔪 or a tool. Sorry to say I may never use this place again.

Wouldn’t go again after today’s fiasco. An hours wait for food from the menu. Carvery was over cooked & cold. Then to add insult the carvery server asked us wait whilst he cleaned up the meat and veg plot that were in a shambles to start his shift, he well and truly showed his anger, the pub was near empty so no need for the mess. Then we needed to use the baby changing facilities which were broken with no alternative.

Christmas dinner very cold pata starter very watery 3 servings all the same we was the first up for the carvery 5 people food was cold gravy very salty we all left the meal pudding cheese and biscuits 4 crackers come on we have been visiting since the place opened Christmas the last 8 years this will be our last we was offered a free drink spoiled our day

Not worthy of a star if you, as a driver, are far from home to celebrate Christmas here while enjoying good food and are not welcome!!! Thank you, never come here again Not 1 pound left for you!! Then just get junk from the shell for the microwave It's a shame that I have the label of driver on my back again Wish your guests a Merry Christmas!! But the 2 people who spoke to me are sorry, shame on you!!!

Not enough staff at times and the carvery is a bit hit or miss

Went to breakfast with Santa today. Santa was the only good thing. He was patient and understanding with both my boys. The entertainer that had a puppet, magic show and balloon animals was also very nice. The food was freezing cold and not great quality at all. Constantly running out and not restocking quickly. Completely ran out of veggie sausages quickly. Constantly running out of coffee (possibly the worst coffee I’ve ever had) the staff were run ragged and not very helpful (which I don’t really blame them for when so few of them were on). Children’s apple juice was given in a pint glass? No real organisation or explanation of how things ran during the event. Absolutely waste of money and time. A real let down.

Used to be good here. Surprise not closed down now. Food cold and very slow service. pub was half empty No deserts for some weird reason Carvery was cold as probs been put all day Steak wrong. chased 4 dinners up Wont be back until its converted to a McDonald's Carling was decent

The food is good value for money but might be best to go in good time. We went up for the carvery a bit late and some things were rather well done and condiments had run out. The staff are pleasant but it can get busy so not always available to clear plates or ask for things. Overall good value good food.

Service poor from start. One staff serving on bar with near a dozen people waiting to get drinks. Most of us had the carvery that was just warm when spoken to staff . All they said I’ll sort something out for you and speak to the manager. That didn’t happen and paid full price . When I ask a member of staff a question she said we are short staff I’ll get back you to which didn’t happen. Paid bill and walked out , I’ll will never go there again waste of money.

Lovely family atmosphere, food us gorgeous and the cakes are huge. Good value for the amount of food you fet. Would recommend

Food was good but the queue to get served at the bar for food and drink took about 30 mins

First and last visit, only two members of staff serving, there was a large queue at the food order section we stood there for a good 10mins, then realised that no one was going to take our order so people started to order food at the bar, chaos! More staff needed, staff need to learn how to communicate, if a member of staff had advised us all to order at that bar instead of the massive queue at the food order section ... 🙊

Had many meals here, always good food at a great price

Sad to rate it low, but we were given attitude for having been allowed to order a large plate by the carvery chef due to miscoms with his staff and the lack of meat that was prepped for the day. But to really make the evening rubbish, the next male staff member delaying with veg in the carvery gave a sign and a comment of no you can't have more veg as there isn't enough (for my 10yr old who's birthday wr were celebrating who hadn't taken much veg with her tiny small plate to begin with) it made her feel really uncomfortable, but thanks to my won't be pushed over attitude. He said "fine you can if it's just a little bit" Cherry tree... You are a Carvery... It's what you are well known for why are you closing the carvery at 7.30pm and not making enough or selling more than your have prepped for. I'd rather not be allowed to purchase a Carvery than be treated like I'm an inconvenience when dishing up. (as a side note, ease up on the Yorkshires... Left to go so crispy they were too dry even soak up gravy.)

Usually a lovely place to go but today left disappointed. We had one of the 1st sittings on the carvery and the food was hardly warm. However the service and atmosphere was at its usual good self.

We waited at the bar to order food, not a member of staff in sight! Not as good as it should be. We always liked to go here for a meal on our way home holiday.

Service was excellent and friendly, felt very welcome, tables where clean and ready for new guests, the food was exquisite and the desserts divine, the take away service is excellent too, please don't change anything, you're already perfect!

Was an enjoyable meal with a decent carvery selection however the items available can vary between days so it's something to note but the regular items you would expect are always present

Reasonably priced for a large carvery and the plate was massive. Piled it up. There was plenty of choice for veg. Would visit again.

Very friendly reception and staff the carvery selection is good gets very busy over weekends ,it is advised to book a table in advance on there website, Breakfast is very quiet 🤫

Service was slow wasn't that busy only one person behind the bar taking food orders. Food came to our table, had to then ask for missing items, which arrived after 10 minutes. Was ok on balance.

We were staying near Derby for a weekend away and went to Cherry Tree Farm for Sunday lunch. We had booked the day before, but still waited 15 minutes to be seated... .it was well worth the wait !!! The carvery comes in 3 sizes (small, standard and large ) and is even available as takeaway. We had the choice of 4 meats ,4 different potatoes (new pots, mash, roast and roasted in beef dripping ) various vegetables, stuffing, gravy etc. They also do takeaway dessert, and I have never seem since big cakes!!!. Excellent value for money......we had 4 alcholic drinks , 2 starters, 4 mains (2 carvery, 1 hunter's chicken, 1 pie of the day) the total bill was £75 . Highly recommended. Will definitely use again if we are up that way

Its good for a carvery, food is plentiful, a good choice of vegetables. You can choose small, standard or large plate (large is massive and you would need to be very hungry). I usually have a small but today I had a standard which is a normal size dinner plate. Went at 4pm today and it was busy, and had to queue but it's Sunday so is to be expected. Decided to book today and it's a good job I did ss tgere was a sign on the door due to high demand of bookings no walk ins. I had beef and turkey, the beef was hard to cut, I mentioned it to one of the waitresses and she immedistely brought me a large piece of beef, so no problem there at all.

Six of us went for a get together and a drink/meal. Went on line and liked the option of booking an adult table away from the creche. Good choice of ales and good choice of food which all looked nice, but we all opted for the carvery which didn't disappoint, very good indeed.

Absolutely fantastic carvery. 32 of us there and food was excellent.

Breakfast was a sorry experience, especially the eggs Benedict and sausage and egg roll. Maybe the buffet brekkie is the highlight but certainly not the ala carte. Sourdough was tough, eggs were over cooked, sausages were petrified. Could not finish

Service was friendly but slow at the bar. Food was ok. Carvery was as expected. Veggie Chilli was a welcome vegetarian option. Cauliflower wings good but needed a dip.

Food is reasonable but the service is almost non existence. 1 person serving behind the bar. The rest of the staff hiding or eating in the kitchen. Only wanted a drink. Loads of people ordering food 1 person taking the order then doing the drinks . Alright place but you will be waiting a while to get served. Think I'll give it a miss in future.

I anticipated a service station experience but in fact it's a pub and carvery. The carvery looked good and I was still able to get the coffee that was all I was actually craving. So all good!

Breakfast is always good. It’s a shame the prices have gone up for the food and drinks though! Prefer it when the chef is working that does the bacon grilled and eggs not crispy. Yorkshire puds are also good soft and crispy. Only had one visit where they were stale at breakfast. Carvery is good value for money on a weekday and very tasty.

Ordered 2 mix grills both came without peas which it stated on the menu they come with it went to order a burger to be told they have no burgers. Only thing that was nice on the mix grills was the sausages chicken was dry the steak was chewy and full of fat the gammon was over salty chips was over cooked and all was only Luke warm. Next up was desert went to order two ice cream sundaes to be told they didn't have any sundaes so went for the carrot cake which come with cream or ice cream so picked ice cream to be told they have no vanilla ice cream so had to have cream. The staff member behind the bar was rude and miserable definitely would not recommend this place to anybody and definitely will not be returning

very slow serving food and food was very limited. all food was cold and most things weren’t even there! staff were very limited. after barely eating my stale food went to order a desert after being asked if we’d like anything was turned down when ordering due to a “lack of pudding” not very happy

Carvery beef was poor - no flavour and not chewable, very disappointing as been going there for years. Might try one more time and hopefully it will be good again.

The farmhouse burger is my favourite dish and would recommend

Food was basic pub food. Wouldn't rush to go back we ordered burgers this time which were ok. Have been in the past for carvery and that's still the best thing here. Kids menu was standard. Kids sausages were very greasy with grease all over the plate. Will have the carvery again next time we go. Kids play area could do with a revamp

We had a fabulous carvery with the kids this evening, they are so welcoming at the Cherry Tree of families and they ate everything! Served at the till by Mandy, she was so lovely and really patient whilst I found my kids eat free code even though they were super busy! Will definitely return.

Worst meal I have ever experienced I brought my staff out for a meal and I was embarrassed with what was served location was on the A38 near derby gave them the benefit of the doubt but definitely NEVER AGAIN

We had a standardly good carvery here, we didnt realise you can book these days so unfortunately did have an hour wait.

We went here a few times over a year and everthing was fine. However we went in the 12th May and was shocked how bad the food was we had a carvery it was discusting and left it. Surely that is a good enough hint to the chef it's rubbish never again.

Visited here when up meeting my friend for some lunch. Brilliant visit. Great food and the service was lovely. Would go again!

We went here the other day for a family get together. There were 15 of us and we couldn't have asked for better service. We were made to feel so welcome and the food was lovely. Thank you for making our annual family reunion a really special occasion.

Terrible experience tonight, several things on the menu we were hoping to order they didnt have, ended up going for the carvery only to be disappointed again when the only meat available was gamon, not great when its not even 7pm yet. I had also ordered a drink on the app, i enquired at the bar where it was after id id collected and eaten my carvery and was told “we’re doing the app orders in a minute” a total of 25 minutes after we ordered and my drink arrived along with my carvery ticket which apparently i was supposed to wait for. Wont be returning here

Vegetarian sausages very poor and full of oil

Stayed at the Budget Ibis opposite and was concerned at what to do for dinner. Need not have worried as two great dinner’s here having their Carvery. £8.50 was a bargain for the food. Great selection. The choice of meats, veg and accompaniments were all delicious! Staff were all lovely too. Great service and made a real effort to assist the customers. I can understand why it was so busy & had had happy patrons across all demographics! A couple of idiot customers in there being rude to people, but that’s society’s problem not the pub and probably a one off. Highly recommend!!

We visited on a Sunday lunchtime and as you can imagine, it was very busy! We waited for the queue to reduce before we headed for our veggie roast dinner. There were 3 choices of meat for the carnivores but we were happy with the selection of potatoes and veg along with a Yorkshire pudding each.

Shambles of a place so badly managed. Party of 4 on Sunday for lunch as 3 that ordered off the menu had food delivered to table and finished eating while the 4th person isn’t even half way through the colossal queue for the carvery. Shocking and will NEVER come back and this is our 1st visit. What a joke of a place

Not as good as usual Very short staffed But ? They did there best

I was told that there was only beef and gammon, which I was fine with. When i got served there was only gammon. I then had to wait for majority of the veg and gravy to be replaced, with still no Yorkshire puddings. When I then sat down to eat my carvery, everything was stone cold and carrots rock hard. I had 2 coca-cola’s with ice. Which I returned due to it tasing like soda water. To then find out it was the ice that made the drink taste strange. I then got home to have my takeaway cake slice. To find my partner had a really big slice like normal, but my chocolate fudge cake was barely even half the size with majority of the top third missing. I would normally always recommend this venue but this was a very, bad and stressful experience.

Came in with family ( 6 adults) tonight 10/10/24 @6:40 pm 3 of us wanted carvery, ordered at bar at 10 to 7, we went to go up for our carvery plates but there were no Yorkshire puds that we had paid for, was told 10 mins, which was fair enough, the other 3 meals came out and we went back to the carvery to find that now there was no choice of meat, only gammon, no roast potatoes and no pigs in blankets, we had also paid for. We decided that we were not going to accept the “leftovers”. Went back to the bar and requested to order from the menu instead. Okay, so fair enough, we were able to order alternative meals, but by this time the rest of the table had finished eating and we then had to sit and wait for the rest of the meals to arrive. I fail to understand how on a Thursday evening before 7pm this carvery can run out of food!! Better planning required in the kitchen. Staff were very apologetic but they should not have been put in that situation. We were not the only unhappy customers.

Ordered a Too Good To Go bag and I turned up before the collection time at 9:20pm and the doors were already locked. The closing time says 10pm so why are all the doors got chains round them? Keen to take the money but not give a service. Rude staff member saw me at the door and ignored me.

Visited on Wed 2nd October At 1.15 we had not booked but easily found a table. Wife and I hadn't been for while. We had forgotten how lively the roast dinners were Staff were excellent ,polite friendly and helpful The food was very good value (in our opinion). And our offer included a choice of cake (Warning the £5.75,) is a lot bigger slice than most and the choice is on display, restaurants offer,and is really lovely Will definitely start going more often Def recommend.

Long waits for carvery and dessert.

Came for a carvery on a Saturday evening , seemed like it was abusy day and we caught the tailed. Waited 10min to be seated to table , someone's child had threw up but the dad was kept waiting before anyone cleaned it up. Bit of a wait on food but we didn't mind, kids doing what they like in the kids area , not what it used to be , most desserts were gone , disappointed

After having an excellent carvery both times before today was very disappointing the plates were cold and the food was cold too. The choice of beef was not ready. Such a shame as it ruins your afternoon with friends.

Excellent, lovely mixed grill, reasonably priced, drinks expensive, £9.15 for alcohol free kopelberg and single malibu and lemonade, apart from that, Excellent service, and quick. Recommend.

Delicious breakfast and very reasonable.

It was OK for food and drinks. It was clean and tidy. Husband and brother in law, had same dinner but one wanted black peppercorn sauce, and the other want something else but ended up with same sauce. Toilets could do with a hourly check and cleaned. Car parking is a plenty. Tidy outside.

Usually a favourite, but after using the app, waited 30 minutes for drinks and 45 minutes for 2 scoops of ice cream! Had to chase staff both times. It wasn't busy either.

Lovely place with brilliant food including buffet breakfast and ‘Cake Away’ which is exactly how it sounds, takeaway cake!

Air conditioning was on full blast on a cold day. Lots of people moaning. When at the bar service was incredibly slow even tho it wasn't busy. Tried to order one of the cakes on display too be told they had absolutely no cakes. Only reason this wasn't 1 star was due to the fact the waitress who bought the food over was friendly and attentive

Carvery is very nice here. The menu is also of good variety and portions are decent we had a shared platter of nachos which were lovely. Its a nice place to also sit and chill with a drink. Staff were also friendly.

For the second time we have visited got there at 6.45pm to be told that they had run out of food on the carvery and if we wanted to order from the menu it would be over an hour. It wasn't even that busy. The service is just getting worse as they don't seem to have any staff. We left and went elsewhere.

NOT enjoyable at all! Worst carvery we've ever had, limited vegetables chewy meat and undercooked Yorkshires. Service very slow and both food and room cold. Shame because it used to be good. Now all got stomach ache,..............
