Chequers Fast Food in Coleraine

Went in for Cod Goujons and couldnt believe what i was being served, five pieces the size of your finger. Goujons were over cooked and fish was so thin, just all batter.Someone should be checking whats being served here cos def not cod.

Called in for garlic chips, Omg the worst ever..i brought them home to my wife and without saying anything i said got you some chips. Only when she was finshed, i said that was a garlic chip..her reply "where was the garlic on them"...Absolute disgrace and dry. Might as well had an ordinary chip. Never will i go there again..Turf & Surf does it right but this was on my way.😡

Eat out of chequers Millburn all the time but tonight's was a real let down not sure what they done to the chicken b4 they battered it for the salt and Chilli chicken fillet burger will attach pics of the chicken under the batter would of been easier eating rubber had been recommending these to everyone but to night was a real let down

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of food we got here during a recent trip to Portrush. The store was extremely busy and staff were very quick at moving through the orders. We all had burgers and good quality chips

Wot an expensive dump,,,, fish ih minging,,,, chicken breast is 4.95,,,,,,, grip Brides chip shop in drumahoe not 1 penny did they put on prices,,, and have 3,30 fish supper on Friday,,,,,,,, and its lovely

Forgot half of my delivery and delivery guy said he would get a new one and re deliver (thought this was nice). Turned up at my address 5 minutes later more or less with my old delivery - all cold and hard. Contacted the chippy and woman on phone didn’t really care about my frustration. Awful service and will never be back. Used to order from Chequers weekly and over the course of the past year the service and quality of food has deteriorated. Keep giving them chances after chances. Won’t be back.

Visited the Riverside branch of Chequers again on Sunday . Good service & Gratis chips. I was having a bit of a problem with my payment app & the fella said not to worry, the chips part of my order was free. A nice touch i thought & makes sure of my continued custom. Great selection of food & a really nice looking wee restaurant to visit, Ill be back , many times...... Thank you

Visited Coleraine riverside store with family and was pleased to see gluten free section on the menu and it didn't disappoint.Staff were courteous and gluten free goujons delicious

When I entered the premises I was asked for my order, The reception person said he did not understand. After 3 attempts of trying to place my order I left. I went for a drive and when I returned a different person was taking the orders and I placed my order with no issues. I ordered a portion of COD and a portion of COD goujons. When I got the food home I found the fish was whiting NOT COD. Extremely disappointed. Normally we get COD when we order cod as per menu and it is delightful. We have often told others about the great service and the great cod. I will never go back to pay good money for poor product and poor service.

AWARD WINNING?????? Not nice, very greasy cod goujons and hard chips. Hubby had some cold locally sourced (freezer out the back) cod and cold chips on the side. Won’t be back!

We called here on our way past leaving to go home after a rainy day in town. We called and placed our order before we arrived. On arrival we paid for our food the guy working was really chatty and polite and our food was ready within a few minutes of arriving. The fish was still crispy when we got home and the chips were the best I've tasted in a while. Will definately be back.

Last night we decided to call into chequers for 2 chicken fillet burgers and a chip to take back for our tea, bu5 when we opened the meal it was fit for the bin! The chicken was burnt as were the chips yes it may have been busy but surly by letting food go out in such a bad state is only going to detrimental in the long run!

Family sang praises of this place for the quality and portion sizes so w decided to see what the Craic was. First impressions weren't good, it was untidy and the two women servers were too busy talking amongst themselves, after a wait our order was taken, wait time reasonable. Received food and took home. When unwrapped was confronted with a greasy mess, very unappetising, no flavour whatsoever. Sorry certainly won't be returning or recommending.

Cod Supper is very good, big portions. Wasnt busy when i visited, so service was pretty quick. Nice seating area and decor. Will certainly be back.

Well, where do I begin. I find the staff unapproachable, rude and completely improper! The current staff need more training, or maybe some customer service training. The rudeness, I cannot state enough. The two ladies behind the till, do not look as though they care, and certainly are very ill-mannered. For what this is worth, I will not be returning to this establishment. Disgusted

I have tried the fish, the fish goujons, chips, burgers, sausages yes we do visit quite often and all these dishes are really tasty but the curry with half and half is amazing. I do try to have something different sometimes but the curry keeps drawing me back. No matter how busy it gets staff are non-stop and pleasant into the bargain. You will not be disappointed with the size and taste of any of the dishes but try the curry, you know you want to.

staff don't listen to your order, then react angrily when you point out they got your order wrong, spent the entire time waiting for my food listening to the 2 staff members talk about an exceptionally disgusting story about their night out which was so loud i couldn't not hear it as much as i tried not too, they swore constantly as well. food was nasty and all the chips were undercooked which was an insult to injury tbh. hire better staff, FAST!

Carry out fish and chips from new Cheques at Riverside at .Coleraine excellent well cooked for and chips. Good service. Nice not too greasy fish supper. Will definitely look again.

Got a cod supper tonight and took it home - would have returned straight away but it is a 10 minute drivE and i was hungry - so i faced it - wish i hadn't !!!Miniscule amount of dried cod in between 2 slabs of hard dry brittle batter - totally not a good fish supper.MY OPINION - DON'T BUY THERE IF YOUR STANDARDS ARE ANYTHING ABOVE VERY VERY LOW!!!!!!CAN CHECKERS PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS PLEASE

We took the family to the new Chequers in Coleraine on a busy Saturday after a visit to the Jet centre Complex nearby. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the food and service were. I had build your own burger and my wife said the fish and chips were the best she's had. Will definitely return on our next visit to the Coast

Chequers used to be the best chippy in town, we would regularly pass may other food places and cross town to get to it!. We were so excited when it finally opened again on our side of the bridge. However, chequers riverside has to be the worst chippy in Coleraine. It looks amazing, but that’s about it. The staff are absolutely terrible.. the most unfriendly folk I’ve ever had the displeasure to deal with and the food isn’t much better. I’m not quiet sure how a chipshop that can’t serve decent chips is even a thing.. but that’s what you get if you come here. Waiting times are also shocking, especially for take out.

Shocking how this place is open let alone has a queue for. Gotta be the worst portion of fish size to cremated and a total disgrace to treat food in this manner let alone have someone make a disgusting batter and a poor cod was killed for this.frozen fish batter just terrible and pictures tell you the story best. Better to spend your hard earned money with the gentleman in the kraken fish and chips van facing as better customer service experience and top notch food. This is the kraken pic with fresh tartare sauce curry sauce and mushy peas all fresh and tasty and well presented. Please support this guy as well deserved too.

Omg the worsed burger in the town,stale bap,cold and untoasted.Asked for fried onions got raw and piled on as if they wanted rid of a load. What a disaster,staff could not care less

Eat at riverside chequers quite a bit never had an issue with the food but the staff have serious attitude problems if your lucky enough that they bother to answer the phone then be prepared for rude unfriendly tones honestly need to work on there customer service. Manners are easily carried and free.

Got a burger and chips in the Articlave take away and was very disappointed so when the Coleraine outlet opened I thought I'd give it a try hoping that it'd be better but not so. The worst burger meat I have ever tasted and the chips were awful. You'd think that a priority in owning a chip shop would be that you could fry decent chips. I can make better at home and I'm no master chef. You get that feeling once you've eaten from Chequers, "boy I wish I hadn't eaten that." Get proper minced beef and learn how to make good chips. It's not rocket science.

Having been working all day arrived at chequers at 9.30pm with my mate. We ordered a portion of chips and a sausage supper. We were given numbers and had to wait. There was one person cooking and serving customers. One person manned the till and a female who wandered about. It took nearly 30 mins for the order to be processed. During which time the sausage could be seen clearly in the gantry of the fryer. Food was okay service abysmal wont go back

I recently ate out of chequers in articlave and portrush and the food and service was fantastic in articlave but portrush not so much. Myself and my husband ordered 2 fish suppers and 2 pasties the fish suppers were fantastic however there were some bones in the fish but aside from this the rest of the food was lovely. The staff were very kind and made us feel very welcome. We also had a family day out to portrush and we have had chequers in portrush many times before the one across from the amusements we just ordered 2 fish and a curry sauce our fish tasted as if it has been reheated and the batter was not cooked and not fresh and our curry was stuck to the pot it was served in it was that lumpy, will not be back in this one very disappointing as articlave was great

The food is great, however the attitude of one male server was unbelievable. Short man with fair hair. He dropped my food on the counter, pointed at me and walked away. Along with this he was very unpleasant

Ordered qtr pound cheese burger and the chicken goujon special which included chips and dip..came to £7.70..the burger was dried up, overcooked and cold..the chips were also cold and didnt taste freshly fried..the goujons(check the photo) were overcooked, heavy batter and also cold..very disappointed for food that is so easy to cook..wont be back!!

A simple chips and curry sauce... not difficult surely..... despite not being busy it was a 10 minute wait whilst the 2 staff members were busy having a chat. Eventually we were served our order but the chips were rubbish, like they had been re fried a few times? The curry sauce was poor also. To top it off it was £4.45 !!!

Have used this place a few times now all food cooked to order so allow time for that. The staff are great pleasant and helpful. The fish is done to your request ie lightly battered. Always fresh and good size portions and good price

I loved their gravy! The chips is fine. Portions are generous. There can be long queues at peak times (which only means many people like their food!) Right next to a spar and very close to the beach (West Strand) Good value for money (the staff id nice, too - allergy guide is displayed at the till)

The customer service i got from one of the staff members was terrible, i went up to order and i asked a question and the lady serving me give me the sharpest reply. She was very unfriendly and didn't make me feel comfortable at all, the food here is great but because of this experience i won't be back to this checkers in Coleraine ! - manners are key

Two of the fish that came with the fish and chips we ordered were very good. Two were very not good. My hamburger and battered mushroom were very good, as well. No refills on drinks. No lemons. No ranch dressing. Parking and service were ok. Price, too. All in all, just an average meal.

We spent £27 here tonight and the food was terrible. The cchips were clearly cooked and recooked severaltimes. We knew before we even tasted the food that it wzs dried up and not ftesh.

Worst fish supper I’ve ever had. I waited 35 minutes for the saggiest, most undercooked fish supper in the world. Do not visit.

Use it cuz it's near the caravan site bit it really has to be the blandest food anywhere. Wouldn't mind but way overpriced. Would advise travelling a little for better but in fairness not many great chippies in portrush at all which is a shame as they have good footfall

On saturday night my husband and myself had a carry out from Chequers opposite Applegreen in Coleraine. When walking into shop a female member of staff was sitting on wall with uniform hat etc all on using her phone. While we were waiting on our order the staff member walked in went straight in behind counter lifted lettuce with her hands and put straight into a box obviously for an order. She never washed her hands and to be honest I just wanted to cancel our order. There wasn't any politeness or anything from her at all. I won't be back. Being pleasant goes a long way and as for this sort of hygiene I can't understand at all.

First of all stay clear of the one in portrush main Center, not good, but the Chequers on the colerain Road, beside petrol station and off-licence, it’s a different story, chips are above average, onion rings fabulous, there fish were big and they even throw in another pice if they think its not big enough! staff were alright, they made everything fresh, two of my tribe had fish n chips, came in a big box, I thought they had no chance to finish it, but they did!! said the fish was amazing!! It your going to portrush you mush grab a bite from cheques, just make sure it’s the right one!!

Went in last week for fish supper, my wife maybe didnt order cod when she phoned it in, but i expected a better fish. It was awful nothing but batter, omg i was so shocked, and chips werent great either, so i think i will give this place a miss, second time i have been bit....

Rang phone order in for quarter pound cheese burgers when l got home couldn't believe how thin burgers were and only had small amount of cheese when l rang shop back the girl said if you wanted onions and relish ect you have to say unlike any other chip shop were they would ask you. Honestly the small burgers you get in McDonalds are bigger and only cost 1 pound and come dressed. Won't be back

Despite a long wait for the food to be prepared (which was a good sign, even with no queue) - we weren't disappointed. Really tasty food, generous portions and hot!

Buena comida. Chequers tienen cinco o seis lugares. Coleraine y Portrush están muy bien. Nunca me decepcionó.

Called in for a quick bite at chequers takeaway on the main street in portrush instead of having hotel food again. Enjoyed my dinner that evening.....nicely cooked fish and the chips are proper chips not skimpy little fries that go soggy before you get to your room. Staff were friendly also with everything on hand you may need (forks napkins sauces etc).

1st time visitor to chequers on the coleraine road in portrush. What a feed it was family of four got 2 fish suppers and 2 kids meals the fish was superbly cooked and batter was nice and crispy. The chips tasted as if they peeled them infront of you and cooked them there and then. Will definitely be back

We were down sorting out our caravan at the end of March and ate in the portrush and Coleraine one (nearest portstewart).both times we had fish and chips and they were top class.all the staff in the shops were helpful and polite.definately will be back

all it can be described as was organised confusion and after the long wait chips were greasy and the chicken goujons that I ordered where fish and when I phoned back was told yeah yours are here bring them back and will swap them but I had drove 3 miles so be prepared for a long wait and check your order and if you like greasy chips

I have been a regular customer of the Millburn Road Chequers for years, eating there once or twice a month. They used to be a the best chip shop in the town, a good old fashioned chippy with nice food, generous portions but recently the standards have slipped. I have kept returning regardless hoping it was just temporary but tonight's effort has finished it. The fish has not been good recently, tonight was no better with more batter than fish and the chips were dry and hard but my chicken curry was an absolute joke - they actually used breaded goujons, put them in a tin dish with a scoop of peas, poured some lumpy curry sauce that was clearly made from powdered rubbish that wasn't even mixed properly and threw some half fried onions on top. When I tipped it out onto a plate the brown breadcrumbs peeled off the chicken and mixed in with the gloopy curry making it look even more disgusting. Most of the food went in the bin, what I did eat is lying in my stomach like a brick. Somebody needs to inform the staff that the 1980's wants their powdered curry back. In fact I remember eating out of Rudis in the Port back then and their curry was better, that's how bad it was. Better to offer no curry than that junk. I can quite honestly say it was one of the most revolting things I have ever had in my mouth. Needless to say they have lost a loyal customer, I will never set foot in that dump again.

Visited the long commons this week which in my opinion is the nicest one! Ordered 2 fish suppers and a goujon meal all were cooked to perfection and the chips were lovely and fresh! The staff were very nice the staff stood and chatted away to me while cooking my food as there was no other customers in at the time two young dark haired girls and a young dark haired man made my visit more welcoming will be back!

Not good food the wife got a chicken burger and it was not cooked in the middle i had a burger and chip the chips were cold not very hot when the wife went back in they said she had been away to long and nothing could be done about it how long does it take to walk across the car park 20/30 yards

I have ordered food from Chequers in Articlave for a few years. I always enjoyed the food as it as tasty and well cooked. What a disappointment tonight! I don't mean the time it takes, but the quality. I ordered a fish supper, chicken goujons, chicken curry and chips. When I arrived home, the fish supper was missing, but that was not the problem. The chicken curry was dreadful, the colour was horrendous and it was full of raw onions, I had to go back for my fish supper. They cook up another one for me, but they skimped on the chips. I will be in no hurry back again. I will never order chicken curry. The chicken goujons were good, but the chips were not. Fish was ok. What has happened to Chequers in Articlave?

I went to Chequers in Articlave about 5 30pm today. I waited for over 5 minutes to order as there were only two members of staff. While waiting for my order I observed the male member of staff blowing his nose but not washing his hands afterwards. The female member of staff was obviously feeling the heat. She was sweating profusely. Wiping her forehead, pushing her hair back and wiping her mouth all with the palm of her hand! Then she lifted the burger baps and fillings with the same hands which had not been washed In between! When I got home I discovered my breast of chicken which was very small and was practically incinerated. The dog got most of it. The fish was a good size but could have tasted better. The chips were mostly scrag ends. Needless to say I will not be back!!

I've been here a few times. It's usually busy but the food is decent enough. Stood tonight in a queue of about 6. After 15 mins waiting to place an order,I gave up. There wasn't a dedicated person to take the orders. The guy in the till would take one. Order and then proceed to do something else. Someone else eventually took over the till and did exactly the same. Just looked like they couldn't handle more than one order at a time. Poor.

Went in and stood a good 5 minutes watched the staff slide about the greasy floor. When finally asked what I wanted by an unhelpful member of staff I bought 2 kids cheeseburger meals which clearly said on the menu was £3.69 each. At the till I was charged £9.08! I asked why this was the case and she said well the till is coming up £3.99 and an extra 55p for cheese! Total rip off for 2 kids meals. Then went to the car to eat it both burgers had red sauce which was asked that only one had red sauce then found grizzly stones in the first bite of the burger and couldn't eat it. Meanwhile 2 hairs were found in the chips! Didn't finish it nearly was sick. Never be back! Get your menu and prices right, clean your greasy floor, use beef burgers not grizzle and wear hair nets!

Stayed in benone arrived late tried this place never again chicken breasts x3 dehydrated and tuff chips burned dryed out qujons the same curry sauce full of salt Threw most of it out disgusting £25 lesson learned

we went to Portrush on the train a couple of days ago had a lovely walk along the beach felt peckish and decided to try chequers it looked very clean and the smell of fish and chips made you feel really hungry we both had a cod supper which was delicious I would definitely eat here again when back in Portrush

ordered chicken goujon meal, got 4 goujons usually 5 and had 1 snaffled for the hungary assistant for her tea, i was watching not stupid guys

The cod and chips are amazing! Lovely white fish but on occasions the batter is too much! Sometimes it can be hit or miss whether the chips are fresh or not and have had experienced lots of crunchy 'ends' in the chips to fill up the box!

Earlier in the afternoon we visit one beside a pizza place of the same name and the food was bland with little flavour, the same can be said of the ones serving.After a night out with friends and we make our way for a taxi but decide we are hungry. Two places open, The Indian Ocean which we chose not to go to as it looked very unclean, and Chequers. This is where it gets confusing; we open the door and order with a young guy who is really happy and cheery for such a late hour, I was able to tell this wasn't an act because he was so relaxed, having a laugh with us and made us feel really welcome while getting on with whatever he was doing behind the counter. It felt great getting excellent service here, and have never felt so welcome especially in a chip shop.Now at the other end of the store we are greeted by a stern rude female member of staff. We ignored her and sat down next to the window. Some guy at the counter made a joke to the female member and she spoke back, "I am not paid to listen to you customers" or something like that. Then as an argument continued and another customer joined in the female member of staff made matters worse by arguing more causing the two customers to begin to fight, I am surprised nothing got broke. We received our food and left as swift as possible; we had planned to eat there then purchase more for tomorrows breakfast but we just wanted out as fast as possibleThe very different ones behind the counter made this store confusingI am from Scotland and my friends who I was over to visit are locals who suggested chequers when we went to Portrush for an evening out, they have now said they will never set foot in a Chequers as long as the female member is still there, they are that appalled. However as I am talking to them about this review they say will go back in if they see the guyI must also add that even though the one beside the pizza place wasn't great; the one in town was very tasty even at the late night. I recommend going to this chequers but only if you at least see a guy working, if you see the female member working I would advise walking onI guess that is all for chequers

high prices for an average take away, nothing really to write home about other than order was was slightly mucked up but to our advantage.

I went to Chequers in Long commons yesterday. I ordered a large chip with a tub of curry sauce. First bite I took I bit into a human hair :( hoped it might be mine and tried to move on from it (difficult as hair in food is a huge pet peeve of mine). Anyway I ate some chips, which tasted good which is why I've given 1 star. The curry sauce tasted fine too but as I was eating I saw another human hair, a long dark one (I have red hair) wrapped around the tub and poking into the sauce. I immediately ran to the bathroom and projectile vomited. Horrible. My friend threw the rest of my food and their own out as we were both feeling completely grossed out. The food was made perfectly well and the young fella behind the till was polite as anything but neither him nor the girl working had on hair nets. I don't like to give such a bad review to somewhere local and chequers has rarely disappointed in my experience... But I won't be back there again even though it's 2 minutes from where I live and I wouldn't be quick to recommend. 2 hairs in food you've bought is unacceptable. It was contaminated. I haven't even eaten yet today as my stomach is still turning. Make your employees wear hair nets or I imagine there will be more complaints coming your way! All the best.

This is the chippy myself and my family use when in portrush. Food is yummy and made relativley quickly. Cant wait to come back

Does what it says on the tin. The fish had to be cut to fit in the box it and the burger were cooked fresh along with the chips. Would say it is one of the better fast food outlets in the area. have been in several times and would go back again.

This is the only chip shop we would use when we are down on holidays or even a day trip. Great portion sizes which makes it good value for money. Quick service even on a busy day.See you all in 2016

Extremely greasy and you feel like you need an oil change afterwards. It can be very hit and miss, sometimes magnificent and others a real disappointment.

generally all the takeaways we have gotton from Chequers have been good. Their pizzas have been hot, fresh and tasty. Fish & Chips are good. Expensive, but most fish n chips is now. Will certainly go back, repeatedly

Just had a bag of chips at the Millburn road establishment ,and can safely say in my 65 years they were the worst chips I have ever tasted.

visited Milburn road chippy ordered chicken fillet burger with lettuce onions Mayo and battered sausage supper from friendly women at till lol. Got home 2 mins away chicken fillet burger had cheese on it nothing else was dry and cold chips were half cooked and battered sausage like a brick £9.50 for rubbish thanks

Chequers is the best chippy in the triangle area. Food is really good and the menu is extensive with lots to choose from. It is especially good when Courtney is on she is a brilliant wee cook. Staff all great and friendly.

This reveiw is for your Chippy in Portrush. I visited last Sunday, never ever again. Your definition of a large chip really needs clarified for future customers. If you are hungry I advise you to get 5 x large chips as I have never seen such a small, large chip in my life, it is shocking for £2.50. Ended up having to go another chippy as my 10 year old son was still hungry after eating your 'large' chip! What a blatant strategy to boost profits. Never again.

Everyone in the world goes to a chipper sometime and you can't fault the chips at this one. A bit depressing that we customers are usually so much on the fat side. I know, I know, I'm trying to hold it in. But wait, I have a plan! A morning swim at the Coleraine Recreation Centre (or is it Fitness?) on Railway Road, then a quick burst around the town in my fastest sneakers, and then a lash of fish and chips at Chequers. By the way, they've opened a new branch out there in the boondocks, but I can't exactly remember where. Listen, Coleraine without Chequers would be like London without Fortnum and Masons just because, well you couldn't have one without the other. If fact, if Chequers ever goes to the wall, I say that Coleraine will have become officially uninhabitable - so, if only for that reason, I'm away out to get a battered cod and chips from Chequers, and truth to tell, the oil is fresh and the attitude is up-beat and that cod is no cod, if you know what I mean ...

We went to Portrush for a day out! That means fish and chips for me, but the rest of the family had goujons and chips and the giant burger and chips. Yes, the customer service was 100%, the food was 100%, BUT, the lard aftertaste was horrendous. It has been repeating on us all night, I really don't know why chippies don't use oils that don't repeat on people. For this resin we won't be back

Good quality fish pity the 2 second trip for shop to car covered me in grease all over my £240 north face coat and dropped on both my feet on my Uggs.......not impressed AT ALL! Staff friendly. Really I should be reimbursed for the damage to my clothes.with ur poor quality fish boxes! I will certainly be telling people I know to beware!!!!!!

Awful experience at chequers Millburn rd. Service awful, 2 chicken fillet birgers ordered and both were raw. The chips ordered were all little crispy bits and were black!! Their customer service has alot to be desired, most unpleasant, poor mannered people ive ever met!!

Popped in for a quick chippy on way back home. It's one of the best chip and curries had in a while. Friendly staff, clean and stylish looking for a chip shop. Also had chicken fillet, it was ok.

New style shop selling old fashioned fish and chips plus a lot more. The chips have greatly improved recently after a bit of a down turn. Hope they keep the standard up as the really good Cod deserves only the best.

This is the best fish and chips you will find in the area for sure, with great value! Try the curry sauce as well!!

If you are going for the fast food option then this place is one of the best. Food is very tasty and has good portion sizes. It's not as greasy as many other chip shops and the food is always piping hot and freshly cooked

Had an awful craving one day for fish & chips - was not disappointed, fish was like a whale - big and chips good also.

Had a huge takeaway for 5, so a selection of chicken, burgers and fish... The fish should be the signature dish of any coastal takeaway, but in this case it was all batter, little fish, and was it cod?Stick to the Dolphin or if you have the patience - Coast!

I live quite near a Chequers so this is the takeaway me and my family visit more than others, I enjoy the food from here and the staff are usually quite friendly. I would say this is a great place to go if you need something fast and it will taste nice 99% of the time.
