Chequers Fast food in Coleraine

Not great food fish was soggy and really greasy. Batter wasn’t crispy. You can see the grease on the bottom of the tray. Not worth £21.25. Definitely would not recommend. Husband said it was disgusting.

Dreadful chicken goujons and chips. Very very poor. Little chicken in the goujons and what there was was chewy and stringy - poor quality and chips - frozen rubbish . All in the bin!

Are they having a laugh? We are here on holiday and we’re charged £4.20 for a small portion of barely warm chips? In England and Wales small chips in the most famous chip shops are about £2.75, and twice the amount you serve. Will we be back? Not bleedin’ likely 😠

Ordered a small sausage bap and small bag of chips, the sausage was burnt to a crisp, the chips were awful, dried up they actually looked as they had been cooked from that morning then put in fryer to heat up, both were totally uneatable, Food is soo expensive got so id expect food you could eat.

Run out of fish at 5 .30 pm. Pure joke this place

Stopped here for lunch on our road trip of Northern Ireland. It was yummy! The portions were generous and the fish & chips were hot & fresh. Staff were friendly & welcoming. There is no seating available so we ate in the square across the road. A good spot for a traditional fish & schip lunch.

Always stop here for our chippy when in Portrush. Food is amazing! Cod goujons and chips are the best! Large portions so easy to share between two people. Staff are always friendly. Will no doubt be back before summer is over.

Was staying near by and decided to try as it looked busy on previous days so thought it must be good enough. I got a fish supper huge portion to be fair but chips were average and soggy batter on most of the fish no peas or tartare sauce which you would usually get with a fish supper. We also got a Burger and chips the burger was nice enough again chips not wonderful 2 drinks and it was around 29/30 pounds which i thaught was expensive considering the quality wasnt great. The service wasnt too good either waiting ages and others who came after us were served before us and they had bigger orders and fish in their order also and the lads behind the county were a bit cold felt lile i was putting them out.

Mean piece of tasteless fish buried under a pile of tasteless chips. Overpriced. Will not return.

After taking ages deciding, the staff are very patient and informative. Me and my partner both got salt and chilli chicken on chips the curry was unreal. The portion sizes were huge. We will be down again over the summer and this is the first place I am going.

Use to be great for food but nowadays not so much, like many other places their prices sure have increased, the chips are very hit or miss either too hard or too soft; bbq sauce tastes just way too sweet and don't honestly like how they changed things that didn't need to be, majority of the food ended up in the bin disappointing, will definitely be the last i go to this location expected better considering what i paid for.

Excellent chippy good food only problem is since start of summer season they have put their prices up and cut their portions for the tourists coming very disappointing to the local people who keep them going during the winter months a right liberty being taken.

Food usually pretty good quality, ordered a large portion of chips and onion rings. Onion rings were ready but majority of chips were ends / scraps.

Really poor chips today. The fish goujons were freshly cooked and lovely. Either the chip oil was old and not hot enough or else the chips were recycled and reheated. They were horrible.

Delicious and generous serves. Fish and chips is not an inexpensive meal anymore and this is no exception. £8.50 for a piece of battered cod in a box to eat on a park bench with your fingers seems the going rate. That being said, you get what you pay for and this is delicious. We had the classic of battered cod and chips with gravy and was beautifully cooked and seasoned, piping hot, gravy was thick and tasty. Everything you could ask for. Every fish and chip shop claims to be the best, this place might actually have a claim for that to be true. Highly recommend.

Great grub, exactly what you would expect from a decent chippy. Food wasn't drowned in grease and the chips were good and crispy 👍

Went in got a fish supper and a coke 13.55 the said the payment didn't go threw by card so done it again they charged me twice and I still haven't been reimbursed been over 2 weeks now .. disgrace rang so many times and they don't answer

Firstly service very good by the lads behind the counter. Chicken fillet burger for me is overpriced at £5.50. It's. Not particularly big fillet and the bun was not cooked. Chips appeared to have been reheated a number of times with lots of small very crispy chips. Distinctly average.

Chips nice enough but £4.20 for a large chip and portion was very small. I actually couldn't believe it was a large portion of chips so went back in to make sure

Mega box is class and great value for money

Total Rip Off, in fact daylight robbery. £4.80 for a very small bag of chips. Got 2 bags and did not realise until we got back how small they were. Actually I feel like I have been robbed 100%, well will never visit here again.

Ordered two large chips at £4.20 each with salt & vinegar. Portion sizes complete joke, what they call large wouldn’t compare to a kids portion in most places. Asked a member of staff if we had definitely been given the large portion, they checked and said yes looking fairly embarrassed. Got home feeling short-changed to find no salt & vinegar on either portion of chips. Very disappointing. See photo for a ‘large’ portion on a side plate.

The cod portion was very small (despite the price) but disguised by over-covering in greasy batter. The chips looked terrible before being cooked and just as bad after cooking. We enjoy good fish and chips but will not use this company again. First time I went back and complained in Portrush and I was given a refund for the fish. Thought I would try them again - big mistake! For decent, and cheaper, fish and chips - try Morton’s in Ballycastle. Chequers staff could do with better training in customer service.

Pastella con uno spessore oltre il normale e super unta. Molto molto lontano dai gusti italiani. Digerirlo è stato faticoso. Però porzioni molto abbondanti.

On a day trip out we decided to have a chippie on the promenade. On our way We came across Chequers and ordered a 2oz steak burger which came with NO dressing of any kind, just meat in a dry bap ? Without fail there's always some ketchup and onions or something but this was bare ! Maybe we had to order ketchup and onions separately ? could have done with being told if that was the case, just weird. Chicken fillet burger which was over cooked and very chewy, greasy with brown tipped lettuce that definitely saw better days. large chip @ £4.20 which were rock hard. Don't know how they cook them but they should stop immediately and try another process. Can't even say the seagulls were happy they didn't exactly rush to eat it either. You know when you think I'll give myself a wee treat ? All in all VERY disappointing and a waste of money and treat time !

Fish is lovely and chips wouldn’t be too bad if it was for having to scrape an inch thick layer of grease (lard) off the entire inside of your mouth 😩 and if you wear dentures 😭 it’s a nightmare!

Have been getting food here for a few years but last few times food has been poor. Have tried to phone but never answered when you get there maybe a couple of people in. It's like going to a party the staff seem more interested in shouting and joking with each other than serving, very slow service as well. Fish overcooked, batter hard and a lot of overdone chips probably repeats. Wouldn't be in a hurry back.

Best food on the face of the planet. Massive portion sizes and made to order. If you do not visit this eatery you have extreme issues. Would recommend to the Queen of England it was so good. Worth writing home about.

Highly recommend Chequers Hillcrest Portrush. Good food and friendly staff

Was up in the North Coast today from Lisburn. Finished off with a walk around Portrush and decided to get a chippy tea before heading home. Called into Chequers as we’d got food from them before. There was only one other customer in the shop. We ordered 2 fish, a small chip, portion of mushy peas and a bottle of juice. It came to £22. The young woman serving was wearing a black coat, which, although the shop was cold, didn’t give the impression of someone who was meant to be working there. She went out the back to get the fish and came out holding them between her fingers and thumbs. No tray, no gloves. My husband straight away commented to me on how small they were for the price. Anyway, we waited nearly 15 minutes before our order was ready. We noticed that she had put the 2 fish in separate boxes and starting piling chips on the top of them. She then put another separate chip in the bag aswell. She said that it would be another few minutes for the peas to be ready. I asked her if she had put chips in with the fish, and she said “yes, you get a scoop of chips with them”. Well I was ready to explode, I said that if we had known that, then we wouldn’t have ordered a chip aswell. She just stared at me. An older, English woman came in from standing chatting outside to some one and went behind the counter and got my peas. I was actually flabbergasted that the younger girl had not thought to say that you got a sizeable scoop of chips with the fish, and how long does it take to heat peas, which by the way weren’t mushy. We ended up giving the extra chip to some lads who were skateboarding across the road as there was no way we could eat them. Afraid I won’t be back, didn’t give the impression of a busy takeaway that was expecting lots of customers the way they were operating.

Saturday evening in our house is always a takeaway from Chequers Hillcrest. The food is excellent and the staff are really friendly too.

Always go there if up on North Coast real Cod and super chips well worth the money and civil staff.

Guys we buy from you weekly. I appreciate that this was a busy time but everything we got was re- cooked beyond taste. The chips were those wee crispy dead ends. The pastie was black on the outside. Tasteless in the middle. The sausages were good. The chicken gougons were burnt beyond belief. I would have like to been able to just get a refund but the phone number was engaged and I gave up.

Actually went for kebabs at the Indian Ocean next door ( also excellent) but it was closed. Decided to give chequers a try. Other chippy on street is no competition. Staff were great, food was piping hot and delicious, portions were more than ample and the place is absolutely spotless. Best in town.

Had chips and a curry dip from here, the chips were probably the worst I've ever had, obviously reheats and inedible, went to the nearest bin, simply not good enough considering the prices chip shops charge these days. Won't be back.

Very disappointed paid 32 pound didn't get everything I ordered chicken fillet burger was over cooked and everything was cold totally waste of money won't be back ever .. give them there dues they were busy but still you expect hot food and everything you ordered.

We are locals and always use chequers at hillcrest but tonight's order was awful either reheats or left to long after cooking before delivery goujons were tough like cardboard and chips were cold we bought 3 meals and all of them the same

Worst fish supper I've ever had, fish was definitely reheated and chips weren't fresh either. I would also put a question mark over the temperature of the food that I received and by the way I work in catering and would've been embarrassed to serve the quality of food I received. Definitely won't be back.

Beautiful food, we had a massive order of 12 fish suppers and sides. It was cooked quickly, tasted lovely and lots of dips, condiments and extras were added in.

Needs to let the oil drip off the food for to mush greasy

If it came to a choice between eating from Chequers and having a good swift steel toed kick to groin....... I'd take the steel toes every single time. It's disgusting, tasteless and staff attitude stinks!!! Avoid

Lovely friendly staff even very late at night

Literally the worst Hawaiian burger I ever had completely dry no sauce. Chips were ok but asked for just salt and got chips drenched in vinegar. Couldn't even dip them in the burger sauce to compensate.

I've seen the bad reports and have to say we had a great fish supper onion rings and mushrooms at the weekend. The wait was terrible , but the food was worth it and i was shocked to think that i would be saying this....

Visiting Portrush with family. First visit we were told chips were cooked away from meat therefore suitable for vegetarians. 2nd visit I asked for chops not to be added in with chicken as vegetarians in party may eat them. Then told chips cooked in beed...
