Chequers Country Inn in Harborough

My mum and I were staying in a hotel down the road and popped in for some dinner. Our waitress/barmaid was fantastic. Such a change to have a genuinely kind and helpful person to welcome you somewhere you have not been before. The food was beautiful and the pub had a lovely warm atmosphere.

We booked a room for a large family meal. The service was fantastic, the staff are so lovely and the food was great, we had 3 courses and everyone's food was brought out together. We were very impressed.

The new menu is fantastic and they also do vegan pizzas. My daughter loved the fact the staff made her feel so welcome. Mav the dog was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. Will be back soon UPDATED Revisited and the food is fantastic and the service was spot on. Hattie was on shift and nothing was too much trouble.

Lovely pub, atmosphere & staff were lovely. The food however…… we were a party of 3, we ordered at 7:30pm and the kitchen was due to close in 30 mins. One friend ordered a mixed grill (the chicken & sausage were cremated and the chips were burnt) another ordered the 8oz rump steak medium - well (it came out just the other side of raw, very pink aswell as burnt chips) I ordered the southern friend chicken burger (a small piece of really chewy chicken with pieces of flimsy lettuce) overall not happy with the food. Felt like the job was rushed because the chef wanted to go home.

Great place for a motorhome stopover on the way south from Leeds. Friendly , helpful staff. Great value food . Only improvement wouldbe a wider selection of hand pulled beers.

Lovely place to stay Staff are super friendly and very helpful The room was great ,clean and tidy The food here was awesome and at a great price too. Would highly recommend this place to all, especially if you are diving at Stoney as only a 10 minute drive away

Me and my husband came down lovely food. But the poor fish :( there is so many compacted into a small tank it’s quite sad. We stayed in one of the rooms which was cheap and cheerful.

Upon arrival we were sent to a small reception office to speak with a young lady about getting our keys and showing us to our room. As I popped my head in the door the young lady was just taking an inhale on her vape, which she obviously felt very embarrassed about and had no choice but to exhale the cloud of vape awkwardly into the corner of the very small room. She then took us upstairs to our room and advised there would be no food that evening as there was an event on. This was disappointing as it was 8pm and as we weren’t advised of this prior to arrival we then had to replan at short notice. We arrived during the football and noticed right away how very noisy it was in that room, however we understand the football was on and it’s a pub so it was absolutely understandable that there would be some noise during the football. Once the football finished though, the entertainment started and that was another level of volume. It was karaoke with people screeching into the microphone. The bed was vibrating. The noise level hit 100 decibels in the room. We went downstairs to ask if there was another room we could be moved to only to be told nothing could be done. No ear plugs to help no suggestions of any kind of remedy. We asked how long it was to go on for and were advised 11.30-12 ish. The room being directly above the function room was also right where the smoking area was and the window had been left open, so by the time we arrived the room smelt of cigarettes. There were biscuit crumbs on the carpet and the dust around the room was a few mm deep in some places. I was very surprised about this considering all the other really positive reviews. I reached out to get their feedback and see if there would be a small compensation. I did get an apology and an offer of a free meal for two, however I did already advise that we were 5 hours drive away down in Cornwall so this suggestion was really pointless.

What a great find. We came in at lunchtime not sure what the lunch menu was. The owner took the time to explain, and we all really enjoyed our food. The service was superb from Hatty and the owner herself and they couldn’t have been more attentive or helpful. A really pleasant experience and we’ll definitely be back. Great portions, friendly people and competitive prices. Well done 👍

A hidden gem in Ullesthorpe, amazing food at very reasonable prices. We celebrated our daughter's engagement and we were not disappointed. Dogs welcome in the side room.

Very accommodating landlord and landlady in a charming family run pub. Well priced food and rooms in a quiet location. Due to the friendly staff etc , this is recommended over local large chain stop over hotels.

Spent a lovely afternoon at the Chequers having afternoon tea with friends. Excellent value as it included an individual bottle of fizz each. The brownies were the best I've ever had. Thank you, Debs.

My recent experiences of the Chequers have been great. Just last week I had their beef madras curry & it was perfect spice-wise; enough of a 'kick' but not OTT & delicious with rice, chutney, naan & pappadums. I've heard fantastic reviews of their recently introduced 'tea for two' and look forward to trying out their new locally sourced home cooked menu options.

We visited today for the new afternoon tea menu. Only £10 per person which includes a selection of sandwiches and cakes and delicious home mare scones. Plus a glass of prosecco. What's not to like?! Fabulous value, great opportunity for a catch up with friends.

Spotted one of the many offers from the Chequers on their Facebook posts, so went to try it out. The offer was a choice of one of 3 curries (different strengths). rice, naan and mango chutney for an amazing value of £5.99! Unbelievable. And of course you can’t help but think “I bet it will be tiny and we will leave hungry”. Not a bit of it, we couldn’t eat it all, and left full to bursting, but didn’t leave any curry as it was lovely. I chose the sweet potato veg curry, and her indoors had the chicken curry. Generous portions. Lovely and hot Well presented. Good service. And for less that £6 a head? Anazing. Thank you Chequers. We’ve spotted your upcoming fish and chip suppers so will be trying them soon.😊

Dropped in last night unplanned and decided to try the new menu, my wife was having some abdominal discomfort and didn’t fancy anything listed, so Debs knocked up a chicken salad especially for her that was not on the menu, whilst I had the Burger, food was tasty and well priced, nothing was any trouble! Would recommend all day long! A Dog Friendly pub in a village location.

It was OK. Seemed very much a locals pub. Visited around lunchtime after shopping in Leicester. Just had one drink. Bit pricey, can't remember how much. When I arrived there were a group of people, two families, sat in a corner. I sat opposite. The entire room was dominated by the voice of one chap. It got worse when another guy arrived and sat on a stool in the centre of the room. Although the 'voice' spoke eloquently, he did so in a broad working class Leicestershire accent, which was grating. He prefaced everything he said with 'to be honest ' and at no point did I doubt his honesty! I just wondered why he kept stating it! I was amused and irritated at the same time. Meanwhile, his unruly children, who were more akin to a pack of wild animals, did entirely as they liked, said what they liked and generally behaved as if there were no social graces to be observed. The wife, mother, woman, whatever, sitting there, looked on adoringly. I retired to the outside to smoke a cigarette, and I could still hear his voice! I suspect, because it's a pretty building in an attractive village, there are lots of people, just like me, who stop here, and probably never return. I won't, but don't let me put you off. Maybe when you go, it'll be different, but I doubt it.

Popped in to have a quiet drink after work. Bar staff very polite, well mannered, especially Lucy and Hattie. Landlady welcome me to the pub. Been to several pubs in this area, I have to admit, this pub definitely knows how to look after their cellar. Couldn't fault the beers!! Definitely made a change to go for a drink after work and enjoyed it. A very pleasant experience. Will return again, when I'm in the area. JP James.

We used the function room for my daughters birthday party & we’re absolutely thrilled with everything! The land lady & staff are so welcoming & accommodating! Pub is such a warm friendly place ! Visited The Chequers Country Inn this evening for their burger night and it did not disappoint. From the moment we entered the pub the staff were all really friendly and it had a nice relaxed atmosphere. We came in for burger night and although there was a big party of people in at the same time, the staff were very accommodating and the burgers we ordered came out in great time and were well presented. Food was delicious and will definitely return again in the future on burger night!

Locals pub, with good food and beer, and a positive attitude to serving food at sensible times.

We pop in once a week or so. Hattie, Lucy and Lauren behind the bar always have a welcoming smile, never fails to put a smile on my face too. Some great prices too! Pedigree at £2.70 a pint on a Monday, that takes some beating. They also have “double up” special prices on spirits, not sure what it is but got a feeling it’s £1.50 to make it a double. Again a good deal. Sunday lunches are enormous, and again very reasonably priced at a bit over £12, most of our local pubs are around £18, with smaller portions! Finally a word of praise for Tony and Debs, with their hands on the pub management tiller. Again, very warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. An excellent pub/restaurant/hotel. 👍👍👍👍

Very impressed with the food here. We picked this pub because of the reviews, and it delivered. The food was delicious, much better than normal pub food. Quite a big pub, with loads of rooms and darts and pool. Also special mention of our server, Lucie, she was very attentive, quick service and lovely and friendly.

Good food, great staff nice pub. Accommodation is good but the view out of the window, nope, unless you are into kitchen extractor vents, so couldn't even sleep with the window open, claustrophobic.

Lucie is a star behind the bar! I'm a poet and I don't knowit! Seriously though, Lucie went above and beyond with looking after us today and the food was spot on for what wanted. She even Shazamed for us!!! You won't be disappointed 👍

This place is lovely! We popped in on a Sunday, with our 2 puppies, and were treated like family immediately, such a welcoming atmosphere, and genuinely lovely people, the food was absolutely top notch, and definitely the go to place for a roast! Can't praise them enough, and will be back.

Just been in for steak night really friendly bar staff and the steak was very tender best steak I have had for a long time got to say it was just as nice as miller & carter and only £12.95 for steak and a drink really impressed with this place would definitely recommend

This gorgeous country pub has so much character and charm. Great accommodations upstairs for a superb nights sleep The land lady and bar/restaurant staff are so friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend a visit and will be returning again when in the area.

Lunchtime visit, not busy at all. Only 2 customers when we arrived. The food was OK but it took far too long to arrive after being ordered. Only 1 cask ale available, which is disappointing for a Marston's pub.

Stayed at the Chequers for multiple weeks, food is great and the staff are amazing entertainment especially that Ralph. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.

Stayed for one night in June. Loads of parking and really comfy bed. Staff were great and reasonably priced food was also very good. Rooms a bit tired but spotless. Less than half the price of a Premier Inn. I will stay again and definitely recommend.

A bit hit n miss this place I found a hair in my roast really unpleasant. Kitchen staff should be wearing a hat. The roast is reheated the roast potatos were frozen even they claim fresh but it's not. Please ensure a hat is worn

Stayed here recently when I had a local gig. Was greeted with a very warm welcome and put in a very nice room indeed. It was a last minute booking but I wasn’t disappointed and would certainly book again. Top marks for a fantastic hotel

Good food once it finally arrived after a 40 minute wait.(not busy in the restaurant.only another table of 4).booked a table for 730pm.ordered food and then told after we finished and went to order pudding no chance as kitchen closed at 7.45pm, 15 minutes after our table was booked?.no notification of this and no table check..overall poor diapointing visit. Edit....you still fail to accept poor communication for kitchen closing without being informed so we're unable to order puddings as Disscussed.

Ann and Stephen visited on 20/4/23 -We chose this location for my mum's 80th Birthday meal, a family group of 14. From the moment we contacted the pub to book for such a large group, all of the staff were incredibly helpful, extremely efficient, and well trained. We found the menu to have a wide range of choices suiting all in our party of ages 11 to 80. We were delighted to see the area we were seated in was spacious enough for our family group, was a charming, quiet, private little area which was clean and attractive for us to enjoy. The food arrived in a timely manner and was piping hot, well presented, with generous portions. Moreover, the food was delicious! The menfolk in our party thought the mega mixed grill contained excellent quality meat, whilst I enjoyed the Ultimate veggie burger that was far more interesting and tasty than others I have tried elsewhere. Everyone who had steak received a steak cooked perfectly to their request and our younger family members heartily recommend the Cowboy burgers. We enjoyed having a relaxed family meal together but felt the Chequers Inn venue and staff really added a touch of magic, Staff anticipated our every need and were genuinely, bubbly, motivated and professional. It is rare we can all go out and feel so delighted with our meals. We left knowing the names of the staff who had looked after us and with a feeling we will be back again soon. I rarely leave reviews but we really enjoyed our evening thank you to Lauren, Tony, Deborah and the chef.

We were the only people eating, my surf and turf was excellent, our daughter who's birthday it was and her husband had burgers and they enjoyed them, my husband had gammon which he said was only average, over all we thought it was quite expensive.

Beautiful place, clean and well taken care of. Serving was fast and although we only had a beer i would definitely go back for a meal too.
