Chequers in Islington

One of the few remaining pubs in Walthamstow. This is the last one in the market. Good range of beers and choice of food . Interior is shabby chic but nice. Recommend and will be back

I really like the pub usually hence 3* But my partner and I ate in here the other evening and the food was absolutely VILE. We ordered and it came in about 60 seconds. A ‘chicken burger’ that was old, hard and contained pretty much no chicken, and a ‘bbq pulled pork burger that was basically a tiny amount of very questionable meat SOAKED in some rank bbq type sauce, spread over a soggy bun. Then there’s the chips. Imagine the grossest, cheapest, 4am chicken shop, day old, skinny, limp, anaemic looking ‘fries’. And that was our meal. 3/10 (to be kind because I genuinely rate the venue).

Menu different to what was online. Ordered food and it arrived, crispy and too well done, and no cutlery brought over. Condiments had to be asked for and finally arrived. No alcohol free drinks apart from one type of beer and soft drinks. Forget having the table cleared of used glasses and plates, that took forever. Decor pretty naff. Disappointed- yes.

I visit regularly on Saturdays for pints of Five Points and to watch The Prem football. The food is all freshly prepared by chefs who care. The sourdough pizzas are as good as Yard Sale and I love the buffalo wings. Other options include fish n chips. Great pub. I’m always warming welcomed by Fin and the staff who run an excellent pub.

The first thing you notice on entering this pub is that the décor is rather outdated. I know that the “distressed” look is coming back in but you tend to notice the difference if something is just past it. The next thing is the scruffy-looking bar staff who don’t exactly do the place any favours. Having said that, there is plenty space with a big garden at the back and more benches in the right-hand passage outside. Entertainment is often drag nights or drag bingo put on by the local events organiser but if they’re trying to turn it into a gay pub then a few barmen from Dorothy’s club wouldn’t go a miss, although it is questionable as to whether it would be their cup of tea. I decided not to have any food in this pub although you can see what goes on in the kitchen as it is behind the bar. I opted for bottled beer instead of draught in case the pipes weren’t clean. It’s the sort of place I might go if all other options were exhausted.

This was already one of our favourite pubs having recently moved to the area from Seven Sisters! The vibes are immaculate the staff are so nice and it’s queer positive. We heard they’d started to do Sunday roasts so came after having 3 consecutive awful roasts at other Walthamstow places. We got beef and chicken and extra cauliflower cheese and it was SO good! About £15 each and worth every penny, better than some £22 places we’ve been to. Only flaw was a slightly colder Yorkshire but everything else was perfect! Cant wait to come back, deffo go down.

Visited the Chequers recently for a Sunday roast as we'd heard lots of good things about their food with a relatively new chef. It certainly did not disappoint! Succulent pork belly with crispy tasty crackling, roast beef cooked perfectly pink, homemade delicious Yorkshire puddings, crispy & hot roast potatoes, delicious homemade gravey and perfectly cooked vegetables. We will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Go early as they often sell out and I can see why!

A delicious and lovely Sunday roast on a flyby visit through the high street! Quick and lovely service by all staff and the food was simply outstanding! Beef was perfection and the fluffy roast potatoes were Devine!

Good range of beers, pleasant staff, playlist a mixture of the well known and quirkier tracks (to me anyway) and cosy, shabby chic surroundings. Great place for a couple of pints.

How to describe this place? Eclectic Bohemian on a traditional foundation about sums it up. Staff pleasant and swift. Good selection of beers, all keg. I imagine they perhaps aren't selling the Cask ale quickly enough to keep it in these still unusual times. Enormous beer garden out the back.

It took us longer to order a pint than drinking it. We went in because it was raining outside and we wanted a pint. We necessarily had to download the app, register and then order. Because we already knew what we wanted when we got in and the pub was empty, we asked if we could order from our table instead of doing the whole app process but the staff didn’t even answer our question. The place is nice but ordering is quite long.

Came to watch the football with a couple of friends, Great atmosphere even better pizza from Chloe!!

El pub es un local de mina y he estado yendo de vez en cuando. Siempre tiene un gran ambiente y la gente es encantadora, listo para servir, pero para mi decepción asado de ternera de ayer fue un desastre; la carne parecía como masticar un pedazo de mi alfombra, patatas asadas eran de roca sólida y las verduras estaban empapadas. Muy lamentable el almuerzo, puedes servir comida y £18 por ... en una nota, el calamar estuvo perfecto! Por lo que seguramente puede hacer buena comida cuando quieras. Muy decepcionado, la verdad.

We have visited The Chequers many times and had a lovely Sunday roast yesterday. The only downside was that due to the only cider (strongbow) being a very strange colour and not tasting strong we decided to leave promptly after finishing our food and not stay for a second drink. Hopefully this was just an off day for the cider.

Viene con todos los adornos y, para ser Londres, razonable para 10-14 libras depende de lo que tienes. Aparte de la carne asada, los encurtidos fritos/gerkins con mayo jalapeño son una cosa de admiración y brillo. Pero tener desierto porque el asado es tan grande, pero hay una buena elección.
