Chennai's Marina in Edinburgh, City of

It's a nice place to have dosas. Had masala ghee dosa which was pretty amazing. Had Chicken biryani, the rice used wasn't Basmati so wouldn't recommend it but flavour was good. Would recommend this!

We went to the Dalry restaurant on a reccomendation. It was awful. The door was wedged open and it was cold enough everyone in the restaurant was wearing their coat. There were loads of tiny flies bothering us throughout the meal. When we asked if they had anything for them they said no and walked off. My dosa arrived which was the only good thing about the visit, but no sign of my partners starter. We chased up his starter ones again they walked off with no apology or conversation. Still no starter when the main courses arrived. They looked shocked when the curry was sent back because we wanted the starter first. When the curry was brought out after the starter it had clearly been sitting as it had a skin on it. The service was awful, flies were insanely annoying and the restaurant was cold. I would not go back or order takeout.

The food comes in restaurant style: all at once after quite a while of wait which I did not prefer Butter ckn was rlly good. Very creamy, thick and strongly spiced, w star anise in particular. Ckn was tender too Saag paneer was more the very creamy kind, less vegetable flavours. It's plain but decent Ckn tikka wasn't very weakly marinated and not crispy The signature dindugul seeraga samba dum briyani was lovely. Rice was small grained and super flavourful. Mutton was fine too Naan was avg, the veechu paratha was terrible, like a frozen product. Very oily too.

It was such a lovely place for an extremely yummy meal! I had the butter chicken, and it was one of the best. I would definitely recommend it!!

Took a gamble as a quick bite to eat before a show at the Queens Hall. Really good, fresh and amazing flavour. Lively friendly staff. Will be back.

A great place to have a South Indian meal for special occasions or your daily dose of dosa, idli and filter coffee. Great team at work here, which makes it a very special place to have a meal.

I would highly recommend Chennais Marina for anyone looking for authentic South Indian or Sri Lankan taste. Their Chicken Kotthu, Paratha and Beef curry were delicious!

Loved the food here. Very happy to have found this place. The food is authentically tasty. We ordered the Podi Dosa and Hyderabadi Mutton pudina masala curry. It was a flavor bomb. The spice was just right too. The kind where you eat even after you know you’re very full, just cause the way they satisfy your tastebuds. :)

A really nice South Indian restaurant in the centre of Edinburgh. The food was great! The beef fry and the kotthu were our favourite and the paneer and chicken tikka also great. The biryani could have done with a bit more flavour, we ordered the beef one and the meat was dry in it (perhaps the other ones are better). Unfortunately the dosa we ordered was not crispy enough either but it might just be the type of dosa we got. The service was just okay, they did not have many of the cocktails they advertised and the staff didn't really explain the items or provide recommendations too well when my friends asked. However, I will definitely be back to try other menu items.

Very good food served & nice taste

Had an extremely disappointing experience with the service and food. Visited this restaurant today for lunch in Newington. I ordered two lamb biriyanis with a starter and asked for a couple of glasses of water. The restaurant was quite busy and I had to wait patiently for my order for about 30-35 minutes. It made me annoyed to see that the person who runs the floor served the food for another table right beside me, even though they had arrived after I placed my order. But the person didn't even try to come tell me why the order was being delayed until I called him and reminded him of my order and the water I requested before. After five minutes, he came out with the starter dish and just two glasses. Once again, I had to call the person to remind them about the main course, as i asked to server both starter and main course together. However, I was disappointed to find that water still had not been served. To be honest, the food tasted good, but one of the two biriyanis we ordered had no meat on it. Instead, the rice covered big lamb bones with some flesh. Later, we requested the drinks menu, but the person informed us that it was not available at the moment. Unfortunately, they only provided us with the option of soft drinks. After all these, I approached him near the cash counter and provided him with feedback in a polite manner. He didn't even bother to own up to his mistakes and was quite disengaged. He gave me the bill and told me that if I pay cash, I'll get a 10% discount. Something happened after this that caused me to lose my calm. I paid 40 pounds for a bill that was 38 pounds. When I raised my hand to get the change, the person just dropped it on my hand from above, like I was untouchable and begged for money. I found the behaviour to be extremely disrespectful and it greatly offended me. The individual failed to offer an apology for his actions and simply ignored the situation. The proper etiquette is to delicately hand over the remaining balance to the customers, rather than dropping it. The service was extremely unpleasant and left me feeling very dissatisfied and disappointed.

The food is amazing, it really does deserve the good rating it has. Highly recommend the masala dosa and the parathas with whatever you order. Wish we could’ve tried everything on the menu!

Distinguished variety of food options both for vegetarian and non vegetarian foodies. Authentic South Indian Idli, dosa varieties with 3 different chutneys. I loved Green chutney. I tried Fried Idli, Seeragasambha biriyani, Theepori babycorn. Quantity is good. Value for Money-:)

Exceeded expectations. We ordered several different options from the menu and our waiter remembered about 8 or 9 different things by memory including drinks without writing anything down. The curry and sides were the best I’ve had in a very long time. We will definitely be going back again soon

Absolutely banging Indian food. The food is so perfectly cooked you can taste all the different spices coming through. The owners are super friendly and helpful and even offered to make my partners curry a bit milder if it came too spicy. The food is quite spicy but not too much so! Will definitely come again if we are in Edinburgh!

We have really enjoyed the dinner, all the items we ordered were good, authentic Indian spicy food and very good service too... One of the best places to enjoy authentic Indian dishes.....

We ordered fews things: However the sambhar was not that great and service is okayish. They nearly forgot our 1 order which caused delays. Okayish food overall - would not recommend as I have tried many South Indian places and Sambhar is the common practice and prime seller (if you can’t make that properly- you are doing something wrong)

South Indian food next door is much better , dosa is not at all tasty, next door tanjore is bit expensive but it's worth it. I have never been so disappointed.

This is one of the best south Indian restaurant in edinburgh. Me and my friends drive from glasgow only for their food. Most recommended items are their malabar beef biriyani , ghee rice made with kaima rice, idli - softest idli and their tea (real strong chaya) and we always got best service when we were there

Very authentic Indian food available for eat in and takeaway..They also do catering for marriages, birthdays etc. I have tasted their food in lot of birthdays and other events...eat in is also comfortable..Staff are very friendly.

Had Malabar biriyani and it had authentic Malabar dum biriyani taste to it. Loved it. Will be back to try other items on the menu

I just love this place. The food is so deleicious here . Each item has its own unique flavour and they never ever disappoint. Their Chettinad Chicken and podi idli are one of my favs . Do visit if you are looking for some soul satisfying food in edinburgh.

Came to the restaurant in Dalry Rd during our visit in Edinburgh two years ago. With good memories we put it onto our agenda this time again. Happy to see that they have 3 locations now. :) My wife grew up in Chennai. Food and ambience is authentic South Indian. We strongly recommend Biryani. We also want to highlight that this restaurant is dog-friendly. Coming back for sure :)

Amazing Fantabulous proper south Indian food.. Have been in UK for 2years and this has been the best place for south Indian food.. perfect biryani , parotta and dosas.. we kept visiting Chennai's marina the next day for all our meals from breakfast to dinner.. If I plan a trip again to Edinburgh , it would be only for having food from them..

Tasty food. But parking was the main problem. If we use car park in main road will allow only 30-45 minutes. Better to park in the side roads than main road.

Nestled in the heart of the city with easy accessibility this restaurant was very welcoming with its unique decor. We ordered veg thali, chole battura, dosa and chicken biryani. The taste was outstanding catering delicacy from different parts of south india. All the staffs were very polite and attentive mainly Vishal. Brilliant place to go for authentic SouthIndian flavours.

Chicken lollipop was lips smacking. I love their yummy biriyanis.

I go this reasturent only because, there are not many south Indian restaurants here in Edinburgh. But they have extremely bad customer service, I Went there with my two friends, the shop is open and no one was there at all, we paid parking fees and waiting inside the reasturent for long, hence the reasturent was empty. I don't understand are they making beer by themselves or not, because I order two beer and , he was just walking and using his phone. Get beers after 30 minutes of ordering. And for meals, I order non veg meals , one of the worst thali o ever had in my life, and guess what he bought veg thali , instead of non veg. And once we ate all the food he bring the chicken curry. What is he mean by that ??

It was delicious. I had the spicy chicken as No 1 on the menu, marked with 3 chili peppers. The spiciness was pleasant but not spicy. Otherwise it was really delicious that I even had to order rice with it (and not for 50p either) I found it unusual, but I haven't been to the UK for 15 years. Otherwise good, you have to have some patience, free water, very nice. The location is also nice. In this respect, recommended.

The biryani was so flavourful and very generous in portion size, and the curry was so so delicious. Without doubt my favourite item I had! Would really recommend. Skip dishoom and come here!

Lovely South Indian food variety. It was fresh and tasty. The host accepted our order for lunch menu although it was still breakfast time. Order prepared quickly. Place is clean and quite. Supposedly also offers cocktails and liquor. Overall we enjoyed our meal here and will recommend to others.

Overall good experience, chicken 65 and the jeeraga samba rice lamb biryani was excellent. I highly recommend this place.

So far the best seeraga samba biriyani I have had in UK. To folks who don’t know this seeraga samba rice it’s much superior than the Basmati rice, please try it if you haven’t before. The kari dosa was good and the chettinad curry was so flavourful. The ingredients in all the dishes felt it was freshly made.

A decent restaurant in Edinburgh, located bang on the Clerk St. Hotel neat and clean. Food quality is really good, we had south Indian breakfast the quantity was sufficient and the taste was really good. Service staff are really good,

We enjoyed an excellent takeaway meal from Chennai Marina's. It was a spontaneous order for a group of 10 people. The cuisine was delicious and packed with flavour, while the packaging maintained its freshness. It was an ideal choice for a spontaneous dinner that surpassed our expectations.

Delicious Indian food. Highly recommended . We had a lunch there and also dinner on our last day of our trip(we travelled one hour) because we loved the taste so much . Biryani was excellent. Paneer tikka was really amazing , so juicy. And podi idli was Awsome. We had a wonderful service too.

This is the 3rd venture by a skilled and committed team. They work well together and stay together. The restaurant is bright and welcoming. Accessibility issues have been approached with innovation. The authenticity of the flavour packed food is consistent with the earlier two. Service is unobtrusive, but friendly and constructive. It was suggested soft shell crab dish might be easier to eat in public if I was concerned than crab pepper masala a favourite but for me is an at home treat. Portions are generous, reluctantly decided to leave some perfectly cooked fish pakora to enjoy the main. Overall an experience of a lambda on the taste buds!

Proper Indian food and yes take the chill warnings seriously. Hands down the best biryani I had! Naan was so soft I want to sleep in it. I’d come again only for the naan. Portion sizes are good, curry comes without rice.

For a 40-person family gathering, we placed an order for dinner. Food was cooked according to instructions, tasted well, and arrived on schedule. Young and elderly alike provided great reviews and expressed how much they appreciated the food. All of the food is delicious in my opinion, but this chennai style chicken biryani is the best I've had in Edinburgh in the past six years.

I only wish you had more delivery drivers as Uber takes just as long and charges a greedy price, quite frankly. I can wait an hour for it.

It was an delicious South indian food we had enjoyed along with friends and family the quality / quantity was rich and high. The restaurant has a variety of vegetarian option's and they welcome to customise based on customer need. The taste and aroma are the same as Indian authentic food and no compromise on the quality.

Nice for lunch. Nice young people running it. Dosas are good especially the paneer! The South Indian dishes are the ones to order ?(not North Indian like everywhere else). However the vegetarian dishes are not as good as the fish/meat which is a pity. Quality of vegetables isn’t taken care of.

It is a hotel for original South Indian taste and flavour. Lunch is extraordinary tast. Dinner is superb .
