Clean, Well presented, Great service even though restaurant was very busy due to Mother's Day. Indian music was running on the background.. each and every person had a smile on their face. Enjoy the food the most. Definitely going back and highly recommended.....

Indian style food is ok but they don't know how to make Sri Lankan dishes like chicken devil or mutton devil

There is great music and the service is wonderful.

Fantastic food and value for money. Menu all halal (alcohol also served). Go for their kottu roti which is an authentic novelty item from South India, and my favourite dosa is plain onion or rava. Starters wise, give chicken varuval a go - perfect blend of hot and spicy. Family favourite is also chilli fried idli. Wife ordered a lamb curry but when this was not to her liking, waiter staff very happy to take off our bill and assist with alternatives. Booked table in advance but didn't need to even on busy Friday night. If you want a nice quiet evening, ask for and insist on restaurant side rather than live music/entertainment side which can get loud and irritating and can still be heard on quiet restaurant side. Staff friendly, helpful with menu and very amenable to this. Food served very quickly and all freshly made. Drinks slightly on expensive side (?£2.50-3 for 330ml can), but not horrendous - tap water freely available. Pack away leftovers. Parking is okay in residential areas - go after core hours for free street side parking. In my opinion, one of the best south Indian restaurants in North/East London.

Have been going to Chennai Spice since over 10 years, its one of the best Sri Lankan Restaurants. I used to live locally before but moved away 4 years ago, its now an hour and a half drive away from me but I still make the way as not only their food is amazing but also their service. I have tried to find a local srilankan restaurant around me but I cant find the same flavour at all. Their chicken tikka biryani and hot chutney masala Dosa is a must try! Its full of flavour and spice!

The idiyappam and dosa is well made and also new dessert we tried on suggestion of the waiter- wayadam was very nice.(pic 1) But naan was bad. And almost supermarket like Chiken 65 and was blant Chilly chiken was not even chinese flavour it was indian spice with loads of red coloring and tumeric and no red chilly. Chiken saagwala is - was only ideal for dibetic and kids with spice tolerance. The worst experience was the tandoori mixed grill- 16 £ for tiny and over cooked.

I visited Chennai Spice at around 5pm on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was quite busy and there was a party in the function room, despite this service was both quick and friendly. I had two starters, a rather tasty chicken hot and sour soup (£4.25) which was reminiscent of a chinese soup. I also had an onion bhaji (£6.25), this was unusual because it was strands of onion deep fried in a batter rather than the usual ball shape, it was delicious. For my main I had chicken sagwala (£7.50) a spinach and chicken dish. It was tasty but the chicken was a bit dry (it was in large cubes which I am not a fan of). I also had a tasty chilli naan (£3.25). For drinks I had a double Chivas Regal reasonably priced at £7. All in all a nice meal, I will definitely be back.

Had an early dinner at this nice little restaurant in Edmonton Green. Was visiting a friend and went there to have some Indian food. The cuisine can be called Tamil/ Sri Lankan food they have some good North Indian varieties as well. Tried medu vada with coconut chutney for starter. It was ok. Decent Tried idiyappam/ sothi/ sambal- it was good Chicken varuval was really nice a good portion and tasted fresh and was my favorite. Tried Srilanka chicken curry which tasted nice as well. We finished off with some kersari and vanilla ice cream. The vanilla ice cream unlike in most places really tasted of milk and it was really good.

Reshma was amazing at the service and 10 out 10 service ty so much appreciated it hope too see u soon . Becoming regular soon because of service

Nice place for Sri Lankan food.Their tikka biriyani is delicious. Desserts are wonderful. Mango lassi & fruit juice also very tasty. Excellent service of staff. We had an amazing lunch today.

If you like Sri Lanka food this is the place. Excellent string hoppers with tasty curries and great dosa too.

The live music sound is too loud. Requested a staff member to reduce the volume but she refused in a very rude manner which was not expected.

I went with my husband for dinner They serve it in a hurry and then before we finished the manager collected the plates🤮 Then they gave us spoilt hot water which has some metalic layer on it, when we ask about it a waiter woman said that its london water Very disgusting service and will not recommend at any cost

Good all round, but poor toilet facilities; not upto the standard of the rest!

Curry (Rogan Josh) wasn’t great at all - lacked depth and flavor, mutton was very tough. The “curry” tasted like tomato soup from a can. Little flavor. Delicious pilau rice & chaat. I guess I should’ve ordered a Sri Lankan specialty for the tastiest dishes.

Excellent service, great atmosphere. Varied menu. Can always rely on Chennai Spice for a quick & delicious Dosa. Great reunion with my college friends some of whom tasted Dosa for the first time.

i had bad experience with restaurant staff. one of the restaurants staff he is very rude and he don’t know how speak nicely with people… my humble request to you guys please teach your staff how to speak nicely with your customers ….. Thanks

Wonderful restaurant with private party space. A stage for events and area to serve buffet. Music system available. Food is also nice. Starters to be mentioned. Halal foods served. Great place for occasions like birthday, would recommend.

For a Restaurant hall it's not at all clean. The toilet was very unhygienic. Food is okay.

Great place for Sri Lankan and South Indian Food. Please Update your MENU! Its been there for a LONG while. It would be nice if you could print new menu. Tables need to be changed as they have been there over 8 or 9 years. It would be great if you can make it more modern. As always food tastes delicious and friendly staff.

Best place I have ever tasted. It is so calm and the food is delicious. There have been rumors of rats eating the food at night. They are fake. The food would have been awful if rats nibbled on it. This restaurant is perfect.

Celebretated my 60th birthday with close family. Had a blast of a time. All customers friendly. In the end we were one big party on the dance floor. Wonderful place !! 💖👍✌

We have been in to dine and now regularly get take away because this place is so delicious. The dosa are my partner and my friends. The curry are also nice. The staff are nice.

Food was excellent huge portions and good value for money. My only observation is that the restaurant could have been cooler with it being a hot day but I didn't ask so my bad!

Very poor experience. Ordered 4 lamb biriyani as takeaway. The lamb was extremely dry, inedible and certainly not fresh. Had to throw it all out. I called the restaurant to complain and they were argumentative, showed no empathy and presented no resolution. Would not recommend and will not be returning.

We hired this restaurant for a birthday function. Food tasted just above the average. Naan rotty was hard to eat. Vegi kotthu tasted really nice. Every time the kitchen door was open, We smell very bad smell like blocked drainage smell. This put us off from enjoying the food.

I ordered mutton biryani to be delivered and while I was eating I found a long piece of fluff which resembled a piece of sponge entwined in the rice. Was sickening and had to throw the food away. Very disappointed.

I attended a wake at the Chennai Spice after the funeral of a good friend Vinod Katyar. Vinod was a regular visitor to the Chennai Spice and always praised the food he enjoyed there. Being a proficient cook of Indian food, he taught myself and others how to cook using Indian cooking techniques and spices. It was very fitting that his wake should be held there. We filled the entire restaurant and enjoyed a wonderful buffet banquet of various Indian dishes. After a starter of onion bhajia, spiced kebab, tandoori chicken, samosa and salad, I chose the mutton curry, chicken tikka masala, pilau rice, Bombay potatoes and nann bread, a delicious lime pickle and raita as accompaniments. I couldn't find fault with any of the dishes and now know why Vinod was such a regular customer. The mutton curry was the star dish for me. The meat was tender and the curry gravy was flavoursome, spicy and unctuous. Perfect. To finish the meal we had Gulab Jamons with ice cream. We found the staff to be friendly and efficient. The restaurant was not cramped and there was plenty of space between the tables. I take my hat off to the Chennai Spice Restaurant for making what would normally be a sombre occasion, one which everyone enjoyed and will talk about for ages. I'm certain that Vinod would have been delighted to know that you made his wake so memorable. Thank you. I'll be back.

Food was top quality and delicious. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Parking is a bit of an issue but you’d expect that in the area. They’ve also got a decent sized banquet hall I guess you can book for events. I will happily return and recommend this restaurant.

Ordered a delivery home. Very disappointed, food very mild lacking flavour. Charged £15 for a starter that should have cost no more than £8. Poor quality and very bland food. Naan breads ignore. Avoid this place if you’re looking for Quality and Flavour…. Sorry.

since my old review I ordered 30 Urad dal vadas , after discussing price, discoun, as I requested for discount for ordering in bulk, take away, I have been made to same the price if ordered 30 .£7.50 per 10 vadas, with no discount asked to pay £22.50, when I attended to collect food, restaurant was heaving with people so I could not even question them sterly about not giving me any discount as promised. They simply said it was misunderstanding and I was was good with my maths. What an upsurd answer, if you want to do business with people who could bring more business to you, be mindful how treat your customers, that's all I can say.. Jo 26.06.23 ****** Old review.......... Splendid food on low price, mouth watering fresh Gulabjamuns (puddings made with milk and syrup) . My son loved his Chicken Biryani and Puris. Lovely Rasam Idlis (VEGAN soup with rice & lentil dumplings), like home cooked South Asian food. Kids loved eating plain Dosas with Sambar (VEGAN pan cakes served along with coconut chutney, tomato chutney and lentil soup. Rasam, is the best dish, if you can take amount spices especially pepper got ride of my flu, cold and cough after one meal . The best rasam served here...if u miss home (country) go there for rasam and biryani

Tasty and yummy food- Sri Lankan and South Indian style cuisine.I have tried Vadai, Idli and Dosa so far. All yummy.

South Indian food is excellent. I have recommended lots my friends and they all agree with me. Because the food is freshly cooked and they are always busy service is a little slower but the food makes up for it. Try the masala dose or tandoori chicken on the bone.

Outstanding food menu choice and quality. Incredibly well priced Service exceptional and cannot rate Natalie highly enough. Took our number and found us a table when it was booked out. Nothing was too much trouble throughout our dinner service. Will definitely visit again on our return trip to London.

Completely unsatisfied. Briyani is not real it's a mixed with curry spices. Noodles with big chicken boiled :( Ordered veg soup but got chicken soup.

We have been ordering take outs from this place for many months now. Last week was the first time we dined in. We loved the food and service. Plenty of vegetarian options. Tasty and authentic food!

Be careful of it's price. Make sure you check your receipt because when you pay by card they charge you anyhow. So be very careful. Also, for Friday evening buffet, they use left overs from the week.

Not an OTT place but clean and great service. Careful :portions are big! Delicious food, very tasty. The hot chilli caught me a bit but that worked well to clear an emerging cold lol Prices are reasonable as well. I am recommending to lovers of good food.

Paid for set menu but by the time we went to eat no meat or chicken available. I did complain but was still asked to pay in full.

Had such an amazing dinner here with my sister. Staff are honestly the most friendliest and food is absolutely amazing, filled with flavours and great recommendation from staff. I will always be back here without a doubt. If you have not been already you have to because you will not regret it!

Been here for many birthday’s and it’s my favourite restaurant in North London! Authentic Sri Lankan food not dumbed down for us westerner’s! Will be going again in November for another birthday. 😊

Mixed feelings about this place. The entertainment was ok bonus to have Mauritian music which I enjoyed and is familiar to me. Food Service was a bit scatty, one lady who looked like the main server was amazing. Buffet food wasn't nice as some of us took that option and wasn't happy. Ordering food from the menu was a better option for some of us but the Curry's had no flavour at all tasted all the same.... Madras and Rogan josh I believe. Unfortunately my mum had slipped at the restaurant and hurt her back so she is off to the hospital this morning. So a bundle of mix feelings. Overall it looked like the regulars were having a good time.
