Chennai Indian Restaurant & Takeaway in Birmingham

The service at this restaurant was pleasant, but unfortunately, the food was disappointing. It lacked flavour, with no noticeable spice or seasoning, which was surprising for a highly recommended Indian restaurant. It simply didn’t meet my expectations.

Excellent Restaurant, great interior. They have recently changed sign name to Priya. Food was good and staff friendly

Food was average, they also forgot to put popadoms in the bag.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Absolutely incredible service for a sit down meal to celebrate my daughter's 11th birthday (her choice). The food was incredible as always but the service was legitimately the best I think I've had in a restaurant for years. Staff were super attentive and accommodating, played music for her and allowed us to present our own celebration cake, even adding sparkler candles alongside ours. The price is also so reasonable for such amazing food and service. Chennai has cemented itself as a core favourite and top choice amongst my whole family for any special occasion or even casual meal out, as well as takeaway too. Thank you so much. You made a shy little girl very happy!

Excellent service, extremely polite when I called to say that I’d forgotten to add something to our order, wouldn’t accept payment for that item and was added FOC. Food arrived exactly on time and was delicious and hot. Will definitely be returning again. Thank you so much, really appreciated.

We received no poppadoms despite ordering. Some people didn’t like the onion bhaji.

Believe me and my brother got food poisoning here. Regardless of that poor presentation of the curry, naan bread was dry, no one in the restaurant and poor and unfriendly service, 2 of the 10 dishes were cold, topped off by taking so long to come. Stay away!

Very disappointed about service & food quality.manager paul should retired not fit for work.most of the stuff old people,there is is no atmosphere.need new management,menu is to expensive.they are always clean, used to very good restaurant.sorry guys

Half full container with basic curry sauce with 4 pieces of chicken in it just no effort at all. Nan bread was ok won’t order from here again.

The best Indian cuisine I’ve ever eaten, so lovely to me and my family and the services were so clean & beautifully decorated. Our meal also had little extras that made the experience so amazing!

The quality of the food is good as well as their staff are very friendly and the ambiance of their restaurant is spectacular at night. I would usually encourage going to restaurants at night.

Ordered on Just Eat because of great reviews and a varied menu. I’ve just had the best Indian meal in years. Proper portions in foil trays. Thick,tasty sauces and plenty of meat. I ordered a green salad and it was huge - not the usual little plastic pot. I’ve just shared 2 mains, 1 rice,1 salad and 2 naan between me and 2 adult children and we each had plenty. We would normally have to order much more.Thankyou Chennai - we must visit next time.

The service was very polite and friendly. Not really a place for small children unless they are already used to spicy food. We asked for extra mild but still got a spicy dish. They did check on us and provided another plain chicken curry which they didn't charge for, so that was lovely. They don't serve any alcohol nor tap water only bottled water. My husband whose birthday it was and loves Indian food said it was all very tasty and there was a variety of flavours. We did pay £90 though so can't say it's very affordable. Nice for a special occasion though. So lot of positives, a couple of negatives, overall we were happy with the experience.

Helpful staff, good service and food that wasn't simply saturated in chilli, although it was perhaps a tad too sweet. Visited on quiet midweek night so no atmosphere to really comment on, so three star rating.

£10 for a chicken tikka main that has about 8 tiny cut up pieces of chicken in it, con artists

I really enjoyed my evening out at the Chennai, it's the first time I've eaten in there the other night, I've always mostly had take outs in the past. The service, quality of the food and staff were all really informative and helpful in delivery a good quality service. They came across very professional and knowledgeable on the cuisine, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would gladly go again.

First time ordered the lamb shank and a very sweet mint sauce flavour but a nasty after taste. Also the Murgi masala which was very good. Ban bread ok. We will not be moving from Rickshaw and Delhi 6 but score. Lamb 4/10. Chicken 7/10. Overall average . Have worked in India for around 6 months and travel so understand what I’m talking about.

A lot of good curry houses in Birmingham, but this is very good. Great choice on the menu and some dishes we haven't tried before. Try their specials, we did and were not disappointed.

Sadly, the worst curry we've had from this usually excellent restaurant. We've had these dishes many times before and they were all ridiculously spicy compared to normal. Our 10 Yr old found it almost impossible to eat her supposedly mild dish. The naans were awful. The peshwari was just filled with dried yellow powder that fell out and went everywhere once opened. And the keema had a bit of paste inside, but no meat whatsoever. This is is almost always a fantastic restaurant whether eat in or takeaway. But today they were well below their usual standard.

We had a lovey meal at Chennai with two other families, including seven children. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. With a nut allergy in the party, the staff were very clear in explaining their allergen policy to us. Chennai will definitely be our new go-to takeaway for curries.

Picked up online order with couple of staryers, 3 curries, rice and naans. Pleasantly surprised with plenty of sauces, o ion and salad to accompany the starters which were tasty. Curries, rice and naan breads were tasty. Would have like more chicken in the curries and a thicker sauce. Overall would recommend

Food was generally good but the chicken wing in my mixed grill was a little too pink for my liking. The rest of my food was excellent.

Only Birmingham takeaway this weekend who delivered an order correctly. Very friendly driver on phone to find the address. Perfect food accomodating my disabled child.

For the cost it wasn't the best, average really. Peshwari Nan bread was a bit weird, not like any other I've ever had? Strange flavour... Other food was ok though.

Very badly run business. Ordered from here and waited an hour and a half for our food to arrive despite it being told there was a 25 minute wait time. Had to ring the restaurant multiple times to be told the truth about when my order was on its way. Lying staff. Disgraceful. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Very average curry.

This restaurant has recently been very tastefully refurbished, it's a smart and comfortable venue. I went there yesterday for dinner with my husband, daughter, 2 teenage grandsons and 9 year old granddaughter. We received a warm welcome, the service was excellent and the food delicious. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Highly recommended!

I received a message to say my food was on its way at 815 which was half an hour earlier than the estimated arrival time. I am round the corner from the restaurant too so I expected it a lot sooner than 845! Consequently, the rice and naan were cold!! Also, the dishes were luke warm. Very disappointing.

Brilliant delivery time Food is tasty and mild options are genuinely not too spicy. Paneer dishes could have done with a bit more paneer. But overall positive. Would use again.

Ordered a takeaway last night for collection for 6 of us, everyone thought the food was brilliant! I had a chicken pathia which was by far the best pathia I've ever had, highly recommend.

Childminders Christmas bash....only us in restaurant. Staff very attentive. Chef sent 2 trays of complimentary starters to the table. We had a lovely time

A very expensive, disappointment. Sauces were on the wrong dishes and couldn't be delivered on time. Very sad as the restaurant had been recommended to us. Will not be ordering from them again. Tweeted and will wait for a reply, let's see if I get one... won't hold my breath tbh.

Absoloutley appaled with chennai! We order around £100 per week with these guys, ordered tonight online and food took over 2 hours to come with no apology! My child whining ordered for had to go to bed so had to make a quick piece of toast, so wasted money on him ! The website said 30-40minutes ! When I called to question there wasn't even an apology just a "we are very busy" they shouldn't be accepting orders if they are to busy !

Delivery driver didn’t ring the bell so they left after knocking and we didn’t hear him. The food wasn’t particularly impressive. The vegetarian balti was just mushy, the food was all very bland.

Had lovely in restaurant and takeaways in the past and we'd raved about Chennai to friends who are visiting this weekend and asked to try a takeaway. Food was tasty but not that warm but the main problem was that a main dish was missing. I rang Chennai straightaway and was put on hold before explaining the problem. I rang back and this time it went to voicemail but no-one rang back. Disappointing obviously and expensive.
