Best place for South Indian food. Delicious idly and Dosa.

I am very much impressed with the quality and taste of the food. For a moment, I felt like I am in India and having Idly in A2B or Rameswaram Cafe.

Price is higher in the bill than menu. Meanwhile food and service was good.

They make the best dosas ever! It’s my favourite restaurant in Derby and has been since it opened. Genuinely love the service and the quality of the food. Great place for family evenings!

Completely rubbish service I have eaten here but only the once food was OK but as the husband was a chef it certainly wasn't brilliant they got the order wrong as well. However speaking as a delivery driver the service is rubbish and the staff are incompetent. Always kept waiting and what can be simpler when the order is ready then send for the driver I'm fed up with having my time wasted by restaurants and this is why I'm posting this review as all places should want to give excellent customer service to customers and delivery driver's alike

First time at an Indian restaurant. The food was really good, vibrant colours and scents, tasted amazing! Great service, good atmosphere!

The dosa was satisfactory, however, the sambar was quite disappointing. I believe the sambar was not fresh, and the chicken 65 was also subpar. Additionally, the tawa fish was not cooked adequately. Overall, I am not satisfied with the meal.

Firstly I entered the restaurant standing in the entrance for 10mins no one to receive me to the table. Then somehow I have ordered mutton biryani even though they're heating and selling the food it is not even warm it is completely cold when i touch the piece or rice believe me you might be thinking I am ordered online NO its EAT Nasty biriyani i have ever had in my life On top of this I thought to complain about the food there is no one reachable I have to go to the counter and then i have to wait for five minutes to complain about my food that is one more craziest part. It is literally didn't worth even 1 pound for that biriyani since there is only one server i don’t want to upset her because she is doing her best. Completely management failure. I am basically a South Indian chef as well I have never experienced this in my entire life. I came here craving for Biriyani after tired from workThis is my first and last visit

Usless . I felt management is quite different weirdos . They are asking to pay only cash they are not allowing to pay online. There is no withdrawal machines near by so they are suggesting to get money by transferring from opposite off license shop and there the guy is charging 2 pounds for transfer. I guess they are doing business in this way . Food is not too good but its okay . Prices are high too .

Start accepting card payments, rather that harassing your customers to earn black money. You don't have any ATMs around your shop where customers can get cash easily. Dissapointing......was very excited to eat here.

Visited on Tuesday lunchtime, and it wasn't busy. Service was quick and friendly and the food menu was vast. We ordered Masala Dosa, Chicken Pepper Fry and Mushroom Manchurian, along with a Mango Lassi, all costing £23. Remember to take cash, as cards aren't accepted. The food arrived within 15 minutes and was delicious 10 out of 10. The Chicken Pepper Fry is very spicy for those who like it that way. We took what we couldn't finish home, in a plastic container at an additional cost of 50p. Highly recommend it and will be visiting again soon.

Had Dosa breakfast. It was great. Highly recommended.

Very poor customer service and experience: Derby Chennai Dosa. It's such a shame that the management pick and choose when to make the Thali options available. We visited today after calling the restaurant FIRST to check the vegetarian Thali was available. I was told a distinct "Yes it is ma'am after 6pm" I had already put my phone speaker on so my family members could hear the conversation. I repeated the question again "Are you sure?" I was again answered with a "Yes the Thali is available". So we made our way to the restaurant and once seated, we ordered the Thali. Well that just blew everyone's mind, I could have been speaking backwards with the look I was given. The waitress said they didn't offer the Thali to which I responded with sharing the conversation I had about 40 minutes ago with her colleague. She then said she would check with the woman I spoke to, that took a while. She then found the said waitress and they both disappeared into the reception area. The original waitress then came back and told us that the Thali option isn't available. She then also said the Thali was available before 6pm, we were then also told the Thali items were limited. Derby branch - get your act together please. It's unprofessional to make up excuses, unprofessional to change your mind on menu options at the last second and in this case, I feel pushed into leaving this poor review. This is the 3rd time now that we have visited and each time we have tried to order the Thali, we have been told we can't. I just hope the other branches around the UK are doing a better job of customer service. We won't be back to the Derby branch. After having had the same experience not once, not twice but three times. I blame myself today, we should have known better than to try and order the Thali.

Travelled from far to eat here as it’s the closest. CASH ONLY, which from what I searched online, doesn’t state… make sure you bring cash. Food is great, great service too

This is such an amazing place to enjoy authentic South Indian food, especially from Tamil Nadu. Their chicken dum biriyani is one of my favourites. The service provided by the staff is a big plus. Overall, this is my favourite place to go to whenever I miss home and Chennai!!

If you like Dosa, you must eat here. They are fantastic with an extensive selection. Meat or vegetable they are all delicious. It is cash only but also very good value with most of the Dosa around £7. The breads are also fantastic. We had the Chana Bhatura and it was huge and delicious.

It was our third time ordering from Chennai Dosa and never repeating the same mistake again. We ordered Puri masala, Tawa fish, Fried rice and butter chicken. The puri was fresh but the masala inside was cold and it was stale as well, fried rice and curry was okay, tawa fish wasn’t good either, after eating food from there our stomach got upset and made the decision to never order from the restaurant ever again !!

I am highly impressed with the service and food at this restaurant. The portion sizes are generous for the price, and the quality is exceptional. The staff are exceedingly friendly and well-informed about the menu, offering excellent recommendations. I highly recommend this restaurant for a relaxed meal with friends or family due to the fantastic taste of the food. However, it is important to note that the restaurant only accepts cash payments, as they do not accept credit or debit cards. Additionally, the air conditioning has not been operational during my recent visits, resulting in an uncomfortably warm environment inside.

It’s cash only!! Don’t go if you don’t want to pay by card. A famous food chain in the UK not accepting card payments while dine in? Is it for real? Been to the restaurant to dine in and they said they accept cash only. If I order for takeaway then I can pay by card so am I supposed to eat on the streets?

Spices were not cooked..property…sambhar had burnt taste…

I placed an order which took more than hour.Throughout this time, I received multiple calls assuring me that my order would arrive in 10 minutes. This happened several times, with no delivery in sight. Eventually, I had to cancel my order, and now I am expected to wait 3-5 days for a refund. This is the most frustrating and unprofessional service I have ever experienced. While their food is good and reasonably priced, I would not recommend their online services. Their app's service is extremely unreliable and disappointing. Avoid ordering online from here.

Just today i visited Chennai dosa for dinner it was really bad experience, i order idly sambhar but idly not fresh then after complaining they change it , we order special Masala dosa in that veggies are uncooked and they just give as it is, and chana bhatura in that we filled at least 5 tissues with fully oiled and in service side it was very poor as well sorry for negative reviews but owner needs to look into it Thanks

Food: I must say it was served without any responsibility. In idly sambar idly looks like cooked 2 days ago, can't even cut into pieces with spoon. Even the staff accepted that it was unbreakable and changed with another one ( I'm not sure might be pre-cooked but soft). 😮‍💨 Paper dosa and hot chutney dosa were nice. I think also other food except dosa was pre-cooked they just microwave and served to customers. Service: The owner needs to recruit more staff. Between 12-14 tables (might be more haven't count), there are only two ladies to serve, take orders, clean all stuff, etc. If you visit this place, take 1 hr to place order and food to serve and another time to eat that food.🍽🍽 Parking: The worst part of this restaurant is to find parking is the nightmare. 🚙 I visited the Birmingham branch, Leicester branch, and derby branch. Birmingham and Leicester are good, but derby 👎.

First introduction to this kind of Indian cuisine. Love it specially their chutni. Would definitely recommend.

Every time we have eater from this place, it has been a huge disappointment. Today, I ordered some garlic and butter naans and it came out very dry and sour in taste. It tasted like they reheated some old food and send us. It was worse. The butter chicken that we ordered was ok. Tawa fish wasn’t great either. We have been here before and tried their food. Every time, we get our stomachs upset after eating the food. Ordered few more times to see if it is us or their food. It happens only after eating the food from Chennai Dosa. Never ever trying any of their food now. Ever!! This place doesn’t even deserve 1 star!

Very nice experience and good food

I had wonderful experience with my family. The staff is very friendly and the chef follows your dietary instructions carefully. Even my 5 year old son liked the paneer butter masala and naan that we ordered. And the food quality is of the top that you will find in very few of any Indian restaurants in the UK. The ambience is also very nice as they play some good light indian music in background.

We have been 3-4 times to give another chance to the restaurant but every time we found HAIR in dosa… without fail . They should work alot in their hygiene.

My experience with the Channai Dosa app today was extremely disappointing. Despite initially indicating a 30-minute delivery time, I've been waiting for a staggering 2.5 hours with no sign of my order. Despite my repeated attempts to contact the restaurant, I've received no satisfactory response. At this point, not only is the delay unacceptable, but the likelihood of receiving cold food is high. Given this experience, I cannot recommend their app to anyone. It's a complete disappointment and a definite no-go for future orders.

Absolutely butters, was so excited to eat this food after a heavy night and it made me feel 10 times worse. Taste was vile, it may be authentic but it deffo ain’t for me, wouldn’t recommend

I just visit today for lunch and I don’t wanna go just bez my husband want to come her bez there is service is so bad I had face problems before aswell and today also today I’m so disappointed they served to my husband and my nephew food 1st and after them they serve my food almost 20 min later and they already finish there lunch only waiting for me and my son food …and there is no one in restaurant only our family that time and they not able to serve food to us on time for definitely waste of my money I will not going again for sure ….pls try to improve your service almost spoil my lunch today …

Firstly, I’ve got no issue with anyone who does or choses to eat the following items mentioned - but I will not eat it as it goes against my Beliefs simply There is no mention of the Resturant being halal on Uber Eats or Just Eat (this may have been changed after my experience) We made a large online order 10+ items order valued over £80 I came into the Resturant to pick up an online order and saw the board say halal - I immediately told the employee - we do not eat halal and we can swap 1 item on the order which was a chicken item - as mentioned we don’t eat halal (at no point was there mentioned that the food is halal) Employee very rudely said, “No that’s not our problem that’s your problem” I said “Sir I am your customer, I have made a large order - I only need to change 1 item as we don’t eat this, as it’s against our beliefs” Employee “ Sir this is just chicken, we just mention halal” So either they are lying to me or they are lying to all their Muslim customers I don’t know, if any Muslim customer would take the risk and eat meat that isn’t halal? I said we can swap this or take a refund for it and take the rest of the order no problem again I mentioned there is nothing online which shows the restaurant is halal, Employee again said that’s not my problem I told them “No problem you can take the item out and keep it”

Utterly disappointed by the service this time. At restaurant, they might manage since face to face dealing, however over the phone, they don't pay that much heed rather seem to avoid by giving excuses, they don't even consider that the same customer has ordered so many times. I placed an order online, four items are missing in total, I called them, their dealing regarding the service was outright disappointed. Finally they said they would try to refund partially but still they haven't paid which I already knew. I paid for the food, service and delivery, but the customer service from their part needs a lot more improvement.

Ordered for iftar waited 2+ hours for the food to never be delivered then they said it was delivered 💀 but it never was and they acted all non chalant. What a waste of time and bad costumer service! Will make sure to avoid in the future. astaghfirullah!

Can't comment on the food since I haven't tried anything from there. However, their breakfast policy is the worst I have ever encountered in any South Indian restaurant. They don't serve dosa/idli/vada/pongal/upma individually. Instead, you have to order the combo, which I find inconvenient. What if I don't like any other items in the combo but just the dosa/idli? I still have to order the whole combo. So, I had to leave on an empty stomach.

Food was OK but service was bad. We had to sit for 45 min before getting served. They didn't even gave coffee or starter in that time and served everything together. The fries were soggy and they didn't smell good

Ordered take away today. Found the chicken dum biryani not up to its usual standard. Parts of rice was hard, chicken piece was dry and less, given dhall instead of chicken curry for biryani. I have ordered biryani and dosa from Chennai Dosa many times and standard has been consistent except this time. Please ensure your food quality is consistent. Thank you

I went today, on the 3rd of February, with a friend.I ordered a breakfast, which was served to me , the portionwas too large .There was no buffet laid out.The waitress, extremely polite and decent girl, came to us and told we couldn't share.I was surprised as it was served to us on the table, not that I had overloaded my plate from buffet .I then requested idli and I was told that nothing else would be served until 12PM.So we had a plate loaded with different dishes, but we could not share it.We were not served any other dish . When I said that it was not mentioned on the website that nothing else would be served until 12 PM.The manager said that it was mentioned on the menu, but not on the website. He said he would get it amended on the website I was never faced with a situation when a buffet was served on a plate by the staff, the staff would not allow you to share it and would not serve anything else either for the second person. I then left , without touching the food .I wanted to pay as the BUFFET was served on a plate to us. However the manager refused to take the payment In my opinion, not at all a customer Friendly place

The food experience is fabulous, delicious food served with a smile. The staff and the food give you positive vibes. Please install POS machine. Payment thru cash is a big let down for me.

Fantastic speedy Dosa between trains. Just 5 mins from the station. Lovely crispy batter and fresh ingredients. Topped off with fabulous service and takeaway snacks at the counter!
