I enjoyed my food today at Chennai dosa Derby.

Absolutely amazing Best food place in derby food was quick and excellent service. Food presentation lovely❤ Taste 100/100

Absolutely fave place with delicious food and amazing staff, however both my partner and i have ended up with severe upset stomachs after eating there for lunch :( Completely put us off after finding out they have also been recently given a 0/5 food hygiene rating. Wont be going back anytime soon.

My first visit and I was highly impressed. Clean with plenty of seating. A very comprehensive menu. The food arrived quickly, very hot and had the most amazing flavours. Great service with great prices. I'm certainly visit here more often. Highly recommend, 10/10.

Food and service were ok, we were disappointed because we ordered lamb curry - it was loaded with onions and peppers and only a couple of lamb pieces in between. Masala cheese chips were too spicy. They charged us £1 for 2 takeaway containers and did not tell us.

I take one spoon and when eat the kadai paneer.. Oh bhaisaab that's what i was looking for.. Love cheenai dosa.. Delievery driver did great job by confirming it twice.

Authentic Tamil restaurant and the dishes scream the same :) Quite a big menu and the dosa's are very large for the price, they are great too! But my favourite is the Medhu Vadai. They were always crisp and fresh, the chutneys were always delicious 😋 ❤️. Chicken Biriyani was not bad, I expected better. Egg kothu parotta was a disappointment as it was very dry and the parotta didn't feel fresh & fluffy. The main highlight is the price. Each item is competitively priced and sometimes you can wonder how one can provide decent food at an unbeatable price for south Indian cuisine 👍🏻. Suggestion: 1)Improve the parotta dishes to popularise them in Derby. 2)Also room for improvement for exhausts as the smoke became too much and the restaurant main door was opened to compensate it which made us uncomfortable with cold air on our faces! 3)The floor is quite slippery, so please do something about it too!

This was our first visit to Chennai Dosa & probably we were the first customer of the year as well. The food was Awesome. Chef Ashok & his team did a perfect job. Restaurant coordinator Varshini was also very helpful & courteous. Long story short - A definite recommendation and for us, we are glad we started off the new year from a Positive place. We ordered sambar vadai, masala fries, onion rava dosa, plain dosa and kal dosa for our dinner. The portion size of dosa was good. The quality of the dosa and sambar can be better.. the sambar was burnt and the coconut chutney was served in liquid form. The other chutneys were good. Onion rava dosa was not cooked properly, taste felt a bit raw

One of the best places in Derby for South Indian and Indo-Chinese food. I would suggest their breakfast deal if you like Indian breakfast.

Not worth giving 1 star.. Very very bad experience.. Mojito glass more than half filled with only ice ..food quantity is less compared to prices ...

Interms of cost,taste and quantity it's good Recommended all to try once. I liked the mutton roll,prawns 65 and chicken fried rice my favourite.

Ordered takeaway and waited in the restaurant for more than an hour and don’t seem to care

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Despite being seated for over 1.5 hours, my order still hadn’t arrived. To make matters worse, I noticed that they were prioritizing takeout orders over dine-in customers, which is extremely frustrating. This lack of attention to dine-in guests shows poor management and a disregard for customer satisfaction. If this continues, they’re sure to lose loyal customers. Date - 13/12/2024 Time - 7.00 p.m to 8.30 p.m ( still we didn't get our order).

Ridiculous experience. Especially with payments. They only take cash. I've had several inconvenient incidents due to this. Their sambar has started getting more spicy than it was when we started eating at chennai dosa.

I visited the grand opening and the food was absolutely delicious.. So I decided to pay a visit when the restaurant's open for serving customers.. I tried to call them but the call wouldn't go through! Upon arrival I found out they only do cash and that was a disappointment as I didn't carry my physical card! However we managed to get it sorted! The management team was really helpful in that! I had both dine in and take out! I loved the customer service.. The food was not that great maybe even the quantity for the price.. My ordered item came in a dish and about a third to half portion of the plate was empty and I was sooo disappointed with that.. Additionally, it was too salty so I asked them to replace it. The replaced item arrived tasting better.. (maybe it was the item I ordered) Service was overall good.. The only issue is I'm not able to call them or even order takeaway or delivery! And they have advertised on just eat and other delivery services.. That's a lil disappointing! And the food quality has been improving since my first visit... Tastes better!

I am very much impressed with the quality and taste of the food. For a moment, I felt like I am in India and having Idly in A2B or Rameswaram Cafe.

Price is higher in the bill than menu. Meanwhile food and service was good.

Completely rubbish service I have eaten here but only the once food was OK but as the husband was a chef it certainly wasn't brilliant they got the order wrong as well. However speaking as a delivery driver the service is rubbish and the staff are incompetent. Always kept waiting and what can be simpler when the order is ready then send for the driver I'm fed up with having my time wasted by restaurants and this is why I'm posting this review as all places should want to give excellent customer service to customers and delivery driver's alike

First time at an Indian restaurant. The food was really good, vibrant colours and scents, tasted amazing! Great service, good atmosphere!

The dosa was satisfactory, however, the sambar was quite disappointing. I believe the sambar was not fresh, and the chicken 65 was also subpar. Additionally, the tawa fish was not cooked adequately. Overall, I am not satisfied with the meal.

Best Chennai dosa Ive been to! Best compared to Birmingham and Coventry branch.

Firstly I entered the restaurant standing in the entrance for 10mins no one to receive me to the table. Then somehow I have ordered mutton biryani even though they're heating and selling the food it is not even warm it is completely cold when i touch the piece or rice believe me you might be thinking I am ordered online NO its EAT Nasty biriyani i have ever had in my life On top of this I thought to complain about the food there is no one reachable I have to go to the counter and then i have to wait for five minutes to complain about my food that is one more craziest part. It is literally didn't worth even 1 pound for that biriyani since there is only one server i don’t want to upset her because she is doing her best. Completely management failure. I am basically a South Indian chef as well I have never experienced this in my entire life. I came here craving for Biriyani after tired from workThis is my first and last visit

Usless . I felt management is quite different weirdos . They are asking to pay only cash they are not allowing to pay online. There is no withdrawal machines near by so they are suggesting to get money by transferring from opposite off license shop and there the guy is charging 2 pounds for transfer. I guess they are doing business in this way . Food is not too good but its okay . Prices are high too .

Start accepting card payments, rather that harassing your customers to earn black money. You don't have any ATMs around your shop where customers can get cash easily. Dissapointing......was very excited to eat here.

Visited on Tuesday lunchtime, and it wasn't busy. Service was quick and friendly and the food menu was vast. We ordered Masala Dosa, Chicken Pepper Fry and Mushroom Manchurian, along with a Mango Lassi, all costing £23. Remember to take cash, as cards aren't accepted. The food arrived within 15 minutes and was delicious 10 out of 10. The Chicken Pepper Fry is very spicy for those who like it that way. We took what we couldn't finish home, in a plastic container at an additional cost of 50p. Highly recommend it and will be visiting again soon.

Very poor customer service and experience: Derby Chennai Dosa. It's such a shame that the management pick and choose when to make the Thali options available. We visited today after calling the restaurant FIRST to check the vegetarian Thali was available. I was told a distinct "Yes it is ma'am after 6pm" I had already put my phone speaker on so my family members could hear the conversation. I repeated the question again "Are you sure?" I was again answered with a "Yes the Thali is available". So we made our way to the restaurant and once seated, we ordered the Thali. Well that just blew everyone's mind, I could have been speaking backwards with the look I was given. The waitress said they didn't offer the Thali to which I responded with sharing the conversation I had about 40 minutes ago with her colleague. She then said she would check with the woman I spoke to, that took a while. She then found the said waitress and they both disappeared into the reception area. The original waitress then came back and told us that the Thali option isn't available. She then also said the Thali was available before 6pm, we were then also told the Thali items were limited. Derby branch - get your act together please. It's unprofessional to make up excuses, unprofessional to change your mind on menu options at the last second and in this case, I feel pushed into leaving this poor review. This is the 3rd time now that we have visited and each time we have tried to order the Thali, we have been told we can't. I just hope the other branches around the UK are doing a better job of customer service. We won't be back to the Derby branch. After having had the same experience not once, not twice but three times. I blame myself today, we should have known better than to try and order the Thali.

This is such an amazing place to enjoy authentic South Indian food, especially from Tamil Nadu. Their chicken dum biriyani is one of my favourites. The service provided by the staff is a big plus. Overall, this is my favourite place to go to whenever I miss home and Chennai!!

If you like Dosa, you must eat here. They are fantastic with an extensive selection. Meat or vegetable they are all delicious. It is cash only but also very good value with most of the Dosa around £7. The breads are also fantastic. We had the Chana Bhatura and it was huge and delicious.

It was our third time ordering from Chennai Dosa and never repeating the same mistake again. We ordered Puri masala, Tawa fish, Fried rice and butter chicken. The puri was fresh but the masala inside was cold and it was stale as well, fried rice and curry was okay, tawa fish wasn’t good either, after eating food from there our stomach got upset and made the decision to never order from the restaurant ever again !!

Been to the restaurant to dine in and they said they accept cash only. If I order for takeaway then I can pay by card so am I supposed to eat on the streets?

Spices were not cooked..property…sambhar had burnt taste…

I placed an order which took more than hour.Throughout this time, I received multiple calls assuring me that my order would arrive in 10 minutes. This happened several times, with no delivery in sight. Eventually, I had to cancel my order, and now I am expected to wait 3-5 days for a refund. This is the most frustrating and unprofessional service I have ever experienced. While their food is good and reasonably priced, I would not recommend their online services. Their app's service is extremely unreliable and disappointing. Avoid ordering online from here.

Just today i visited Chennai dosa for dinner it was really bad experience, i order idly sambhar but idly not fresh then after complaining they change it , we order special Masala dosa in that veggies are uncooked and they just give as it is, and chana bhatura in that we filled at least 5 tissues with fully oiled and in service side it was very poor as well sorry for negative reviews but owner needs to look into it Thanks

Food: I must say it was served without any responsibility. In idly sambar idly looks like cooked 2 days ago, can't even cut into pieces with spoon. Even the staff accepted that it was unbreakable and changed with another one ( I'm not sure might be pre-cooked but soft). 😮‍💨 Paper dosa and hot chutney dosa were nice. I think also other food except dosa was pre-cooked they just microwave and served to customers. Service: The owner needs to recruit more staff. Between 12-14 tables (might be more haven't count), there are only two ladies to serve, take orders, clean all stuff, etc. If you visit this place, take 1 hr to place order and food to serve and another time to eat that food.🍽🍽 Parking: The worst part of this restaurant is to find parking is the nightmare. 🚙 I visited the Birmingham branch, Leicester branch, and derby branch. Birmingham and Leicester are good, but derby 👎.

Every time we have eater from this place, it has been a huge disappointment. Today, I ordered some garlic and butter naans and it came out very dry and sour in taste. It tasted like they reheated some old food and send us. It was worse. The butter chicken that we ordered was ok. Tawa fish wasn’t great either. We have been here before and tried their food. Every time, we get our stomachs upset after eating the food. Ordered few more times to see if it is us or their food. It happens only after eating the food from Chennai Dosa. Never ever trying any of their food now. Ever!! This place doesn’t even deserve 1 star!

I had wonderful experience with my family. The staff is very friendly and the chef follows your dietary instructions carefully. Even my 5 year old son liked the paneer butter masala and naan that we ordered. And the food quality is of the top that you will find in very few of any Indian restaurants in the UK. The ambience is also very nice as they play some good light indian music in background.

Tried some Subcontinental food today. And loved it especially the Wada amazing. Amazing dessert to try.

We have been 3-4 times to give another chance to the restaurant but every time we found HAIR in dosa… without fail . They should work alot in their hygiene.

My experience with the Channai Dosa app today was extremely disappointing. Despite initially indicating a 30-minute delivery time, I've been waiting for a staggering 2.5 hours with no sign of my order. Despite my repeated attempts to contact the restaurant, I've received no satisfactory response. At this point, not only is the delay unacceptable, but the likelihood of receiving cold food is high. Given this experience, I cannot recommend their app to anyone. It's a complete disappointment and a definite no-go for future orders.

Absolutely butters, was so excited to eat this food after a heavy night and it made me feel 10 times worse. Taste was vile, it may be authentic but it deffo ain’t for me, wouldn’t recommend
