If I could give the Cheneston's team 10 stars I would. Somehow 5 stars feels like a disservice. The food was absolutely delicious, I had ordered the steak (medium rare) and my partner the mushroom risotto which were cooked to perfection. Our mains were accompanied by three sides including Jersey Royal potatoes, Creamed Spinach and Ceaser Salad, all of which were again amazing. The service we received was exceptional, the restaurant manager and team were so attentive to the table and ensured we had everything we needed throughout the evening. I cannot recommend the restaurant and hotel highly enough. The best restaurant dining experience we have ever had.

Old English hotel vibe, white table cloths, attentive though ultimately suffocating service. Atmosphere a bit painful, quiet, stuffy, uncomfortable. Appetizers were great, steak was dreadful. Thin and badly cooked. I sent it back and got a duplicate of the poor quality. They graciously comped it and we made a hasty exit vowing never to return.

Three grand Victorian townhouses opened up and converted into a hotel in 1922 recently restored to a very high standard. The exquisitely appointed, dimly-lit restaurant is tucked away at the back of the ground floor. The playlist consists of Jazz Age standards. The raviolo was a bit chewy; the chicken pot pie rather watery; and the millefeuille impeccably presented, but impossible to dissect without a surgical scalpel. Service was supercilious and slow. Prices astronomical. Fellow diners all American - all hotel residents. Overall, a not unpleasant, if slightly odd and very expensive experience.

I do NOT enjoy writing negative reviews. I love writing positive reviews, but I made a reservation yesterday for tea today and canceled as soon as I I knew that friends would be back and available earlier than thought. I called early afternoon today hoping that I might be able to dine in the lovely Milestone lounge for lunch. The very polite woman who answered said that she would check with the dining staff. She did and advised that being at the hotel in 20 minutes would work for me to sit in the lounge for lunch. I arrived at the hotel exactly 20 minutes later. The woman with the reservations book said that she could not find my name and that I would need to sit in the lobby which I did. The same woman came to retrieve me. I asked where she was leading me and she said to the hotel bar. I explained that I did not like to sit in the hotel bar as it is dark and I explained exactly what had been said to me on the phone. A tall man with blondish grey hair then advised in a less than kind voice that there were tea reservations in the lounge at this time. I then advised him also of the information I had been told by phone. He then asked at exactly 1330 if I could be finished with lunch in one hour. I advised that I could be finished in one hour. The same man then asked in a less kind tone if I was certain that I could be finished in one hour. I advised at this time that I was not comfortable eating lunch at the hotel and was departing. I also advised that I has been treated rudely and that I was embarrassed. I did call after departing and spoke to the hotel front desk manager Tom and again explained all of the details above and advised that I wanted him to know these details in hopes that another hotel guest would not be treated in the same manner in the future. The hotel manager then advised that he understood I had been offered a seat in the bar. I then advised that I would again go through the details above which I did. The hotel manager then advised that he needed to confer with his staff as to the facts and that if I would leave my information that I could receive a call "tomorrow." I then advised the hotel manager that I did not need a call. I also advised that my previous experience as a hotel overnight guest at The Milestone had been very good but, that I would not be staying at the hotel in the future. I am very grateful that I have the impeccable Covent Garden Hotel and the elegant Mandarin to stay with during future visits to London.

Chenestons is a wonderful find! We couldn’t have had a more superb experience. Leo and Julia are really excellent – their customer service is outstanding. All the other staff were equally superb, warm and genuine, I didn’t catch their names. It really is a special place and I was so excited because some of my favourite music is Glenn Miller and Al Bowlly and this was gently playing in the background which enhances the 1930s and 40s feel of the place. I was in utter heaven! The food was wonderful. We had help choosing our wine and Leo understood exactly what we liked and what would match our food and he didn’t oversell or make us choose a really expensive bottle. We appreciated this very much. The cauliflower starter was exquisite as was my smoked salmon. My halibut was gorgeous and my fiancé’s chicken pie was perfect. We visited for lunch before the Proms that evening and it really was a day we will never forget. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to come back.

Hats off to our server, Avon, who was professional and attentive. The tea was wonderful and we especially loved the finger sandwiches. The price was good considering the posh location and quantity, quality and presentation of the food. The ambiance is cozy and charming with a view of Kensington Gardens. Cheneston's appears to have suffered badly from the lack of American visitors during the pandemic; only two tables occupied while we were there (9 people in total). This is a real shame as it is an excellent restaurant with high standards of food and service. From the moment you enter the Milestone hotel you are very well looked after. The small bar is very cosy (and does excellent martinis) and the restaurant is in a beautiful room with well-spaced tables and comfortable seating. Some might find the menu a little limited but my challenge was deciding what to have; in the end chose smoked salmon and rump of lamb. Very unimaginative you might say, but both prepared to the best standards imaginable. Puds are also to the same standard. Cheneston's isn't cheap, but in London would struggle to be beaten for that special occasion.

I needed a restaurant in Kensington which would offer excellent food and, on this occasion, fast, efficient service because I was hosting the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea for lunch and we were on a tight schedule. Cheneston's Restaurant at The Milestone Hotel provided all of the above, plus elegant surroundings. The staff even quickly offered us hand towels on a sliver tray when we arrived so we could dry off – we had been drenched by a big rainstorm outside. Truly thoughtful, VIP service.

Came for drinks and lunch. It's an interesting and attractive interior, and the service couldn't be faulted - attentive and considerate. But the food was a real let down. My chicken noodle soup was so salty as to leave little other taste. My steak was dry and tasteless - ordered medium so it should have still contained plenty of juice. It comes just with chunky chips. Ordered roast vegetables to accompany, but these were soggy and reminded me of school dinners. The food is a huge disappointment and if you had been served this in a local pub at half the price, you would still be disappointed. I guess for many it's easy to be seduced by the surroundings and overlook the poor food.

The Cheneston do a very reasonably priced two or three course Pre Theatre Dinner menu - perfect if you are going to a Prom at the Albert Hall. The dining room is really attractive, quiet and refined and you feel totally cocooned from the bustle of Kensington. The food was of a reasonable 'brasserie' standard with the plus of amazing bread and excellent service. Two very good prawn and crayfish cocktails to start were followed by a ribeye steak, and the chicken pot pie. The steak was fine but perhaps cooked a little more than the ordered medium rare. The chicken pot pie was a little disappointing. Pies really need to be well filled - but the individual pie dish was less than half filled with the flaky pastry topping sitting about 11/2 inched above the filling. Part of the attraction of a chicken pie is where the pastry is crisp on top but has absorbed some of the cream sauce underneath. A smaller pie dish might have done the trick! The following is an observation and NOT a complaint as we did the ordering: Two pre dinner Aperol Spritz (we didn't know the price), a half bottle of Pouilly Fuisse, one glass of excellent Tuscan red wine and a bottle of water sent our bill to nearly £190.00. The set menus were £35.00 each and we paid a supplement for the steak. These are prices that you would expect in a quality 5star hotel in London but to whoever might like to try the same Pre Theatre menu just be aware that the bill really can so easily escalate if you are drinking alcohol as well.

This tiny little restaurant in the Milestone Hotel is home to some of the most outstanding dining in the area. Most hotel restaurants are overpriced and frankly don't deliver in quality. Chef Diamantis prepares an unforgettable meal using the finest in locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. The dining room itself is intimate and elegant, which would be ideal for a romantic or special dinner. The wait staff is exactly what you would expect in this caliber of restaurant. We had the Dover sole after multiple recommendations and we too would suggest you consider this perfectly prepared dish. Though the menu changes seasonally, this dish is never rotated out. That should speak for itself. Seek out this gem for your special dining experience. Reservations are a must, particularly on weekends.

We had a pre-theater dinner here, prior to Classical Spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall. (walking distance) They got us in and out under a time constraint but that wasnt the most impressive part. My daughter is not only gluten intolerance, but also dairy intolerant. They brought her a basket of her own GF/DF breads and homemade crackers, but also pulled up a trolly of artisan olive oils for her to choose from to dip them in. (I had amazing breads and a selection of butters) They customized a risotto (DF) for her that she gobbled up and I had the Turbot which was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had...and I'm from the Pacific NW. The service was, if possible, above 5 star. The food was on par with our James Beard award winners. They had simple comfort foods like a chicken pot pie, all the way to my Turbot in a cream sauce. This small, intimate, wonderful little gem is worth every penny and time to seek it out. I highly recommend reservations, because its small.

The bar and restaurant staff were absolutely brilliant, and our cocktails excellentBut oh dear, the food ! We had whetted our appetites from the sample menu on the website - and one accepts that it is only a sample. But when we were handed the evening menu the choice, for a "fine dining" restaurant, was sooo limited - nothing like the sample on the site. We ended up with boring prawn cocktail and equally unexciting chicken pie - which wasn't up to the standard of my local pub and 2-3 x the price. It could have been sooo good!

It was late on a Monday evening in January so we practically had the restaurant to ourselves. We were delighted to be offered "English" dishes on the menu (why do most London hotels insist on serving foreign dishes?) and the wine list was both extensive and sensibly priced. Service was impeccable, food very good and also well priced, considering all of the little extras provided. My only criticism was the inclusion of a so-called "discretionary Service Charge" on the bill. I really think that a restaurant of this calibre should be able to rely on the profile of its likely clientelle to do the right thing when it comes to rewarding good service.

Dined here as a aprty of four before going to an event at the Royal Albert Hall. The hotel is situated less that 10 minutes walk from the RAH.The restauarant was offering a special fixed price meal as part of the London Restaurant Festival during October and we were offered two courses for £21 or three for £26.The restaurant is plush and comfortable. The staff were friendly and attentive but not intrusive. All three courses were extremely good. Portions were not over large but were perfectly adequate and extremely tasty. The fixed price menu was limited to three choices in each course but this was not a problem. The wine list however was very expensive with the cheapest bottle of wine being £31.Overall a very good fine dining experience and well worth a visit.

We stayed at the Milestone Hotel (which clearly deserves its five stars) and out of exhaustion, ate at the Cheneston, instead of venturing out to explore the neighborhood as we usually do. What a treat! Downton Abbey atmosphere as a previous reviewer mentioned. We had the roast of the day, in this case, probably the best roasted chicken we've ever had. They wheel it out and cut it at your table. At GBP 27 at this upscale of a restaurant, we thought that to be very reasonable. Service was impeccable (but the place was not very busy.) It's served with two kinds of potatoes, both of them delicious, and a healthy portion of vegetables as well.

Did not stay at the Milestone...we wanted to but was not in our budget, perhaps next trip! Anyway, we had breakfast there one morning. Was lovely! Buffet was offered, included in the price also ordering of menu for a hot breakfast. Was not cheap, but great. Service was outstanding & friendly server.

Cheneston is apparently the original name that morphed into "Kensington." The waiter (not a "server" or a "wait person") suggested that my wife and I share the "rather large" portion of Dover Sole. It was simply superb. And it was the first time in my life that a 5 Star restaurant suggested "sharing." The sommelier, unlike his American performance artist counterparts actually knew of what he was speaking, and his choices were equally knowledgeable. A satisfying experience to say the least.

Like stepping into another era. Old elegance, like Downton Abbey. Lovely ambience, place settings, very traditional, yet friendly (not stuffy) service. We were staying at the hotel so we appreciated the convenience for breakfast and dinner. The full morning buffet was sumptuous (cold meats, cheeses, pastries) and Eggs Benedict cooked to order. Dinner was simple yet refined: we ordered specialities that were also comfort food (Chicken Noodle soup with chicken-stuffed puff pastry; Chicken Pot Pie).

We enjoyed 2 evenings having dinner in!After walking all day, we decided to try our hotel restaurant. We were not disappointed and even retuned another night. Service was superb and our selections were superb: from the classic Caesar to an espresso crime brûlée. An excellent bottle of Sauvignon blanc from New Zealand complemented our sole ( we split the sole and it was the perfect amount. Cream of cauliflower soup, and fresh breads complimentary.Highly recommend this restaurant.

After more than a dozen trips to the UK and dozens of outstanding and memorable meals, I would say Cheneston's was the best meal I've ever had here. The menu had so many unique and attractive options it was hard to choose what to order. We tried four different appetizers and all were excellent, with the Bea's Eggs Royale unlike anything I've ever had. The Chopped Sirloin, Chicken Pot Pie, Duck, and Piri Piri Chicken entrees were all outstanding. The range of desserts was also tremendous and each was a gem--especially loved the honeycomb ice cream! We also just loved the small unexpected extras-- a small taste of pea soup, plum sorbet palate cleanser, selection of chocolate truffles at the end. Every bite of every dish was delicious. The service was also every bit as outstanding as the food, and the room was beautiful-- we sat in a small window alcove. A truly unforgettable dining experience! Cheneston's will be my first dinner whenever I visit London.

Beautiful food, beautifully presented and served with care and kindness. A little expensive, especially the wine, but worth every penny and more.

We had an early breakfast here about two years ago--needing sustenance and not wanting to partake of that provided by our perfectly-adequate B&B in Queensway across the Park, one winter's morning--and a return visit was therefore in order. Then, all was as if the clock had stood still--starched napiery, old hotel plate silver, a proper full (and I mean FULL) English breakfast in a dining room with a cheerful fire in the grate. NOW, and I am happy to report, all was as if the clock still stands still in those good ways: a welcoming greeting, excellent service, plush surroundings, and the expected full English, in those surroundings and level of service which somehow manages to survive. Of course you pay the price (is £26.50 exorbitant, I don't know?). I think, as a special treat, it is well worth it. Impressive for those of us who are nostalgic--and a certain age--and impressive for overseas visitors (my treat for them) and much appreciated. Well done, Cheneston's.

We both had the pie & mash bowl with 1/2 beef gravy & 1/2 “liquor” (a greenish gravy) & we loved it. The owner was very personable and proud of the reputation she’s built over the decades. It was the best local fare we had in London and also the most affordable meal during our stay. But bring CASH. No cards are accepted.

The prawn salad was phenomenal and well presented. The beef was has an enormous serving portion, cooked to order and perfectly juicy. The atmosphere was very posh- there was live jazz music and a singer

We arrived early and had a friendly welcome. Having sat down it was clearly apparent there was a change of staff, roughly 3pm. Our first server I’m guessing was checking off, no interest at all, next server was fair but never saw again, all in all 6 different servers, not one the same on any time coming to the table so no continuity, very little interest except for the lady towards the end. We had pork belly ribs to start, amazing, nice salad with it. The. Between three we had a 1kg porterhouse plus two fries mushrooms mac and cheese and drinks. The steak was excellent but I felt the portions were all very small for the cost of the food. Not good value for money. But this is London. After one dessert it came to just shy of £250. I was really looking forward to this meal but felt very let down. A shame and will be hard pushed to return. I feel there are better restaurants serving quality food for more value. Sorry
