Anywhere else, I would be unenthusiastic about Chef Bako, but for touristic Edinburgh it's not at all bad. Situated at the far end of the Royal Mile, near the Museum of Edinburgh, it has a fairly basic menu that includes fish & chips. This was freshly cooked to order, and served with a micro pot of mushy peas, and equally sized one of tartare sauce. They are unlicensed, so I splashed out on a can of Irn Brew. The fish & chips were fine - not a huge portion, and not cheap, but about as good a deal as you can get in this part of the city. There are a few seats along a counter on one side of the shop. I'm amazed how much more expensive it is than Glasgow!

Food was delicious, hamburger, veggie burger, chicken shawarma and the fish and chips was what we tried and no one was disappointed. Staff is super friendly. Wish we would have found Chef Boko earlier in our visit. Note that there is limited seating.

Review Chef Bako, Royal Mile Walking home I really wanted fish supper. I passed the famous one at the fringe office near the Royal Mile but didn't want to go there, so I continued walking down. Voila Chef Beko. I crossed the road to go in, it was very welcoming. I love the very long table with the wee school chairs. It is a small space, but felt very large. It was about two in the afternoon I requested a fish supper and they made it from scratch for me. I was so pleased when it arrived on a tray as I wanted to sit in. Right away, I could tell it was not excessively oily. The fish was very fresh and the chips were perfectly done. The whole experience was really lovely. I looked at the menu on the wall and confirmed the prices were great, my fish supper price was great too. Sincerely, Sass

My husband and I happened on this small restaurant and it was fabulous! We both had the fish and chips , fries and deep fried Mars bar. Recently had the fish and chip at Bertie’s proper fish and chips and no competition—Chef Bakos was superior. The Mars bar was made in its own batter not the fishy batter Really made a difference. We are already planning our next trip. Our meal included fish, double fried chips, peas, drink, fried mats bar for £30 The owner was so kind. I look forward to trying the veggie burger.

Chef Bako is very welcoming and inviting. His food is top notch, delicious and fibrant flavors with a menu that can cater to everyone, all ages. It is a nice change of pace from the typical royal mile food, although he does have those options available as well. Food is made fresh to order and is matched by his wonderful atmosphere.

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the first class lunch served to us at the Wednesday Lunch Club in The Gift Tree Corstorphine. Started with a delicious Amuse Bouche. Followed with cheese and broccoli quiche. Served with baked potato and coleslaw. Pudding was a scrumptious berry crumble with custard. Together with a hot drink. Excellent value!

This is a church cafe run by volunteers. It says it is an outreach cafe and an asset to the community - but this is hardly the case when the prices are off putting and more expensive than most cafes run as businesses. A very poor cappuccino cost £3.40 and my baked potato was nearly £8. It is set up in a church hall and the volunteers are pleasant but not exactly efficient (my baked potato was left on an adjacent table until I asked where it was). All the members of our table had their food delivered at different times so some were finished before others had started (we ordered together).
