Chatwins - Blacon in Cheshire West and Chester

Ordered 2 bacon rolls, 1 with tomato sauce. 1 tea, 1 coffee, expensive at £16! The bacon was under a heated lamp, there was 3 slices of COLD bacon on each roll. A very nice lady brought the order to our table. The rolls were nicely cut in half. One roll had tomato sauce where it had been halved. This was taken as the 1 WITH sauce. NO, they had cut the 1 with sauce and then, with the sauce covered knife, cut the one without sauce. I detest sauce. This was a bad error by the staff, which could have caused an allergic reaction. Very poor food hygiene standard. Back 11/11/24 for a third visit, much worse than the first. First, they refused my Scottish currency, I would have left had my elderly father not been there. Luckily, he had English currency. The female assistant used tongs to lift the bacon from the hot plate, dropped it, then proceeded to pick it up with her ungloved hand 😱 I then requested a return of my money back, she asked why, told her. She made me a fresh roll wearing gloves. The gloves were not the issue the fingers on my bacon was. The mug for my tea was chipped, not badly the whole way round the circumference. This was returned, and a replacement mug was provided. £24.50 for 2 hot rolls, I sausage roll, 2 coffees, and 1 tea. Rip-off comes to mind. Hygiene standards need to be raised

After many visits to buy and run, I finally found time for a sit down at my local Chatwins. It's a mixed bag. The staff are super friendly although they are about as organised as flatulance in a colander, even though it was very quiet on my visit. The tables are clean and tidy, and the wait for breakfast was not too long. The coffee, however, took even longer. Now, you may well be asking why the 5 stars given the niggles so far... Is it the cold hard beans that bump up the rating? Unlikely. Maybe it was the greasy egg with the overcooked yolk? Definitely not. It must be the lack of lustre bacon, then! Nope. What makes this a 5-star breakfast is two things, the sausages. They are amazing, in a barm or on a plate they will not disappoint your taste buds. Most importantly, it is the toast, hot crispy doorstep triangles of incredible bread with such an amazing crust, and if that was not enough, it is literally dripping in melted butter. Now, please pass me some statins 🤣 Hopefully, I will find the time to eat in again, but not too often. Gotta think of my waistline and my wallet. At £12.95 for breakfast with a coffee, it is about 30% higher in cost than the average breakfast in the area.

Drove all the way from e port because it states online its open at half 7 but we arrived qnd they turned us away saying not open till 8 change your times online

Food was cold fatty bacon on a dry batch cold latte disgusting you can send food out like this

Says 730am opening times, arrived to find it 8am on door. Please update, waste of time and effort!

Had an egg roll and custard tart, delicious both of them!

Met by an unhappy member of staff so knew it was in for a difficult experience. I ordered a sandwich and coffee, and then proceeded to sit down to have them. I was then told I couldn’t stay as eating in was ‘dearer’, but wasn’t told or offered this when ordering. Ended up eating it on a concrete block outside. If the staff were friendly about it, I’d have understood, but the main server wasn’t bothered or accommodating at all. Really disappointing.

Not been here in a long time. The shop is so clean, the staff so welcoming and friendly and the smells of the roasted meats amazing. The main reason for going was for a medium custard tart. I'd never call them medium, they're huge and absolutely delicious. Can't rate this shop highly enough

Quick, friendly service from Janet on my first visit here. The dining area and toilet were both very clean and tidy and the overall ambience was really welcoming. I will be calling in regularly once I move to the area in the near future

Food items received didn’t match the descriptions in the menu, fried onions in the wrap-no mention of this being in the wraps any where on the menu and missing items that were in the description

At least dick turpin wore a mask! More like daylight robbery instead of highway robbery! Why did I just pay £6.50 for a measly breakfast bap? 2 Sausage, 2 pieces of tough bacon, 1 egg and possibly 1 mushroom? Or half a mushroom??? Sorry, but 1st time and last time I'll be making a purchase here. Also the lady thought she was being funny by asking me could she keep the change. The location is not inside Chester walls but it's most definitely Chester city prices.

Called at 2pm on a Saturday and it looked like the staff were trying to close up earlier than they should. Too busy talking amongst themselves to acknowledge that I was standing there waiting to be served. I had to ask if they were still serving and if they could make me a bacon, sausage and egg bap. I was told that they had run out of bacon, eggs and sausages. I don't think I'll be going back again anytime soon! Bye bye Chatwins there's plenty of other food establishments that'll be pleased with my custom. 👋

We popped in at lunchtime for a snack lunch. We were taken by the Christmas dinner wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding; very pleasant. The staff were helpful and brought the food to our table. We felt that the Christmas dinner was a tad expensive at £7.75 and you pay extra for eating in. I would like to go back and try their breakfast!

Popped in for an enormous full English breakfast to take away. My only complaint is that it's far too much! Also got a couple of steak pies the other week which were packed full of tasty steak filling and surprisingly good quality for a local baker's shop.

Such a lovely café, the girls in there are lovely and the lad who’s been working there recently is lovely too, but it’s a shame that they got rid of that young girl who worked there, I can’t remember her name but she was lovely and the last time I saw her she was saying about going to South America? Anyway that’s the only reason for the 4 stars... the coffee and cakes there are all so yummy too!

The fresh bread here fab & cakes are so lovely...good comfy cafe too for a coffee/ tea. The staff here always so helpful/ pleasant & nothing to much trouble. Thank you ladies for all you do.

Great food, great prices but a small selection of drinks that may put some people off but I was alright with the organic fruit juice that they provide. If all else fails, there's a spar next door.

Their jam donuts are delicious.

It has great service and a nice selection of food and drinks, an area to eat in with a toilet. The only let down is it is a bit pricey.

Can be waiting long periods if someone is having a freshly made sandwich , staff will talk rather than serve, food excellent, need one staff on sandwich bar , one on cakes and breads

The staff are so unhappy at this branch but the food is lovely. I think if they had more staff they wo6ld be able to manage a lot better. The management never seem to be about to help either

most days we pop in chatwins early morning black tea, black coffee, thick toast for two ,we always ask for extra hot water and extra butter ,which we are prepared to pay for ,the staff are usually so nice ,but today as usual in we went got tea coffee toast,but when asked for extra hot water we where told no ,we offered to pay for the extra water only to be told they didnt have a till button for that ,staff where very off hand ,considering we are regular customers ,who spend £7 to £8 pound each ,,morning !not a good way to treat loyal customers ,wont be rushing back there in a hurry!!!!just to note usually all staff at blacon chatwins are lovely ,but sadly not the two today!!!

I popped in for a quick bite for lunch and after asking for something they recommended I opted for their famous eat in sandwich experience.Wow absolutely looked gorgeous and tasted even better. I was surprised at how quickly it was made and was asked what drink would I like with it so talked myself into a coffee too which was equally as nice. I will definitely be back thanks to the friendly lady that served me.I think she was called sarah.

Visited blacon today and had an amazing experience.staff so very friendly and had a great breakfast thanks to the chief Sarah ball.highly recommend.nothing to much trouble for them. I have a disability and without asking brought my drinks over too.thank you so much.empty plate says it all yummy x

A very nice clean café with nice food and good facilities I have called there several times while doing the nearby Geenway trail.

Friendly staff but way, way over priced to eat in cafe. Can get much cheaper in a good few Cafes in the City and be waited on as well. Don't know how they can warrant the high prices when the overheads are heaps lower than in the City.
