Char in Rochdale

Visited for my mother and father’s 50th wedding anniversary and arrived with the disappointment of being double booked . I was fuming but stayed calm and we got told in an hour we could have a table at Bank Chambers down the road (a partner business and they would also give compensation drinks etc etc ) we moved down the chambers and got seated . After a good while we got menus and pranced orders with compmentary drinks . The servers came down and played up at the bar our meals . It all worked out better than being in Char. Thank you all so much for turning around what could have been a disaster into better than it would have been . If you get me ! Thank you

Booked a table and arrived on time to be told out wasn’t ready. They told us to go to the bar down the road which they also own and they would let the barman know when our table was ready. We didn’t want to buy drinks only to have to leave them so we waited in the car. We went back in ten mins later and were told the table still wasn’t ready and it would be at least another ten minutes. I know these things happen but there were empty tables. I’m sure the food is perfectly nice but it was full of shrieking young women having bottomless brunch and it’s just not for us.

Recently opened under new management- food was fabulous, service good, the Sunday special menu such good value for money 3 courses £20 Definitely go again

You can get a 3 course meal here fairly cheap. I was Impressed with the size of the children’s meal for just £7 or £10 with a dessert. Our food was nice but I was expecting better to be honest. It’s worth the money but nothing special. Staff were very nice. Good drinks selection.

First time visit to this cosy restaurant to celebrate a birthday. All 4 of our party chose steak as their main and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. The service was very good and we were not rushed by the pleasant and friendly staff. We'll be back!!!

Someone recommended Char over Xmas so when thinking where to go this week for a Sunday lunch I thought we’d give it a go. Booking via the website was easy enough. We arrived and were seated straight away- very friendly staff. Each of the 4 of us had a different starter, 3 of us then went for a roast beef main & 1 for the salt & pepper chicken. For desserts we had x2 apple shortcake, 1x sticky toffee pudding & 1x ice cream We could not believe how good the food was- we could not fault anything. Piping hot, really tasty and perfectly presented - if there was anything I would say to enhance the Sunday roast - offer a cauliflower cheese as a side The staff were great, and lovely quirky little place. Although we are not local to Newhey we will definitely revisit. Loved it thank you

Visited with family for the Sunday Roast 3-Course Menu. We all really enjoyed the experience. Staff were very friendly & attentive. The beef was really nicely cooked, husband upgraded to a Steak Roast and really enjoyed that too. Will be back!

Asked on booking wether vegan options available, even said on booking form. Get there and apparently all vegan options gone. But Hey they got a party if 10 so they weren't bothered about the one vegan . Food took forever to arrive and was mediocre. NOT GOOD AND VEGANS FORGET it THEY DONT GIVE A F%&

Superb. I am a steak snob. I’m so often disappointed by poor quality and/or badly cooked steak. This was excellent! we ordered a sirloin, a fillet and a child’s steak. All we’re so tender and cooked to perfection (kid’s medium, ours medium rare). Staff were attentive and friendly. And steak Wednesday and Thursday nights are amazing value.

Visted with my boyfriend for my birthday on Wednesday for their mid week deals. We had been once before a long time ago when it was the Italian Job and it was much better before. First off the toilet is disgusting and needs sorting out. We were seated and overall the service was OK but not great. In particular we were served by a man who had the most dirty finger nails I have ever seen Very scruffy dirty clothes. I also saw him scrolling on his phone whilst at the bar and picking his nose at one point which was not pleasant! We ordered drinks and I was served a warm Moretti which I sent back. The starters (prawns and steak tacos) were dry, overcooked and lacked flavour. The saving grace of the whole meal was the main we had rhe chateaubriand with chunky chips and it was very nice. I did have to ask for our table to be wiped afterwards. We had the misfortune of ordering desserts and wish we hadn't bothered. The cheese cake was clearly frozen not homemade amd had zero flavour. The same for the millionaire shortbread. The main was lovely but everything else was rubbish. The staff need to improve their hygiene and appearance when serving customers!

Food was edible but massively overpriced for the amount and quality. Disappointing as I was told the food was great.

Would like to say how lovely the staff were, really friendly and efficient, unfortunately lots on menu sold out (meal at 6pm) Chicken very dry, pasta was unfortunately awful, chopped into little pieces and mushy….. steak orders were very good, cocktails were lovely. And as on previous reviews, toilets awful, this is an easy fix….

Ordered food, starters were lovely. Mains came, steak was warm as it was served on cold plates. Chips were hot. Food was really tasty. The decor was in need of a clean, as the walls were dirty and skirting boards and floors looked like they need a good scrub.

Took advantage of the steak night three courses for £24 on Wednesday night with three friends. I had the sweet chilli prawn skewers - bit disappointed with the four small prawns but they were tasty. The 8oz fillet steak and chunky chips were perfect, very delicious. The lemon meringue pie wasn’t good, very dry and bland. The two staff were absolutely lovely and service was good. I was horrified by the state of the unisex washroom, it was filthy and mouldy - had I seen it before I ate I wouldn’t have stayed.

Really really tasty starters, I had the pork belly and my fella had the goats cheese and ham. The steaks we had for the main course were good. They were supposed to be served with rocket and vine toms. We didn’t get the leaves but we did get a bone marrow which was odd and a bit yuk to be honest, put me off a bit. The puddings were nice. What I can say is the staff were absolutely lovely and were working hard.

Toilets the biggest let down it’s communal and dirty The staff are amazing and can’t do enough for u but the food is not good I got served hot olives and cold hard bread has my bread entree plate totally the wrong way around I’m sure it’s warm bread and cold olives 🫒 Chilli and garlic cold king prawns where definitely not king prawns more like a prawn salad served on coleslaw another let down sorry but over priced and not the best food Overly priced is not the word

Went for a beautiful meal here last night, not our first visit hence us coming back to the lovely waiting staff, Orla and Milly and the other girls, and Sean, all helpful friendly and will do anything to accommodate you. Atmosphere is great, the food is just delicious, loved the prawn starter, the pork belly is to die for, the sauce is delicious, attention to detail on every dish, compliments to the chef, Callum also the cocktails are fit, all made in front of you by the talented staff! Also the Bottomless here is great too,Atworth every penny, a lovely afternoon here u never walk out sober ! Love coming here, thanks to you all.

First time we had visited here in a long time. The last time we came it was The Italian Job. A totally different experience now. Its not a special dining experience anymore. The menu is very limited, a very small amount of vegetables on offer. I opted for the s and p chicken breast, it was tasty but could have got similar at a takeaway. The toilet is a massive let down, the room needs a good clean. Would be reluctant to visit again as didn't get tge dining out experience at all.

Small restaurant, with a relatively small menu . What is on the menu is great and they have a specials board which I would recommend. Staff are helpful and friendly.
