The lunchtime queue out the door is a clear sign of how great this lunchtime spot is, and it's well worth the wait! Fresh ingredients and dishes full of flavour, plus the customer service is second to none. I had the spicy Hue, which was delicious, the broth was perfect & will 100% be coming back. They also do office deliveries which is a plus!

People will eat anything if it's under a fiver, and this place is a prime example. First time I went, I got the pho. At about £5, it was OK. Not the most flavourful stuff, but I have definitely had worse in London. The experience of eating it was kind of ruined by the fact that it's served in a paper cup with a small plastic spoon. This is not an enjoyable way to eat pho - you have to drink from the cup to be able to drink all the broth, and the broth was splashing everywhere as I was eating the noodles thanks to the lack of a bowl. The most offensive thing I ate from here was a chicken banh mi. The chicken was slimy, tough, chewy and just generally revolting. The baguette was soft and was soaked by the pate and by the vinegar from the ridiculous amount of pickled carrot shoved in there. This was one of the worst banh mi I've tried, and I've had some very bad ones here and in Vietnam,

Food was simple and tasty. The price was low. What more can you ask for? I had a chicken noodle soup for £3.50. It was filling and very tasty. I'm a regular here for lunches now.

I walked past this place (recommended by London Street Eats) and stepped inside. It's a simple, bare-bones kitchen, with all-Vietnamese staff, with an essence of mini-Vietnam (or what I assume as I've never been to Vietnam before). I ordered the roast pork with rice, which came with an green-red palatte of fresh spring onions, bright-red chili, and salad. It was sublime. Fresh ingredients, textured-flavours, perfect balance of flavour, succulent meat, warm-fluffy white rice - this is without a doubt one of the best meals I've had in the city. My only concern was that it was so good, that it has ruined my other more local Vietnamese place forever. It was so good, I went up and ordered another portion of food, the Beef Pho. I normally dislike Pho in London. The soup is usually - watery, bland, and distilled. That wasn't the case here - there was a wonderfully sweet-mint broth that'd clearly been brewed with care. The Beef, unfortuantely was dry but for £3.50 (yes, £3.50) I couldn't exactly complain.

Working close by on a prolonged contract at first glance this place isn't much to look at however given the queues it must be good and especially with stiff competition from the street food market close by. Can recommend the BBQ pork with asian salad and rice, vermicelli rice wraps, spring rolls, the pho, in fact can highly recommend everything. And for around £8 you will eat very well for lunch.

Walking past the place, I wasn't immediately drawn in as it looks like any ordinary cafe. I was i was however intrigued as to why there was a queue running out the door. After a short wait (amazing considering the size of the queue), I realised why it was so long. The beef Pho was exceptional, the broth was a slap in the face of full on flavour and the beef was incredibly tender. The pork spring roll just looked homemade and was a welcome accompaniment offering crunch and a well seasoned pork and veg filling. This place is the perfect example of not judging a book by its cover. An unassuming Vietnamese place with fantastic, fragrant food.

Can get some really great pho and summer rolls here and this place is super busy at lunch time (try to go before 12.30 or after 2). There is some limited seating but it's more of a takeaway place. They do take card over £5. Most dishes average around £5.

Quick and easy, and cheap. The quality never fails and the flavours are authentic. The staff are always helpful and very friendly. The BBQ pork Banh-mi is my favourite but the rice and noodle dishes are just as tasty. Always a place I love to visit

Went with a friend for lunch at Chao the other day and found it excellent. It's mainly a take away place, though they have a few seats (we were quite lucky to get one). The queue was long, but progressed very quickly. My rice and veg curry was served with chillies and coriander. They said it would take 3-4 minutes. I had to wait more than 10, which was a bit disappointing, but then again, it felt fresh and was delicious. A big portion for just over 5 quid. Meat dishes seemed to leave the kitchen much faster. All in all, Chao is a great choice if you fancy a quick and affordable lunch. It's a pity they open only between 11am and 3pm, for it could be nice for a dinner as well.

Been here twice now. Thought it maybe a bit of a Chinese takeaway from the look of the outside but have been back twice in one week! Shame the summer rolls run out but I'll be back! Had prawn hue one day then prawn vermicelli salad, would recommended both!

Absolutely love this place, the BBQ Pork Banh Mi is one of my favourite things to eat, and the Spring Rolls are the best I've ever had. I do like the Chicken Curry and Rice as well, but the curry to rice ratio needs to be looked at, never enough sauce.

I work near Chao and since I discovered it I've eaten lunch there once or twice a week. My favourite dish is the noodle salad with bbq chicken - very simple but outstanding. The fried pork spring rolls are amazing and cannot be missed. There's usually quite a long line around lunchtime but if you wait until after the rush it's very quick. It's not cheap but about the same price as having lunch in the market.

Stumbled across this "restaurant" after eating many times at whitecross street market restaurants and stalls. This places distinguishes them self from the other for the great food and different juices, for example I had the cactus and pineapple juice which was very good. Back to the food I had the rice and bbq pork which was delicious, the bowl was also accompanied with some vegetables, peanuts and chillies. The portion size was good. There is some seating space but this restaurant is more like a sandwich shop, you have to buy at the counter and then you can sit indoor to eat. The only criticism I have is regarding the production/assembly line which was slow compared to more established stalls and restaurants in the area. Really good food I will definitely go back and recommend to anyone in the area.

Vinam Café is no longer. In its place, a Chinese/Thai takeaway. We had sugary seaweed, beansprouts suspended in an inert medium and a thai gloopy brown curry (the menu said green). They couldn't even do fried rice properly, it was overcooked. Avoid!

Hands down the best Vietnamese food in London. Service is always impeccable and chef Thuy never fails to cook up a storm. The beef pho and lemongrass chicken are must try's as well as the home made cocktails! I can't recommend The Little Viet Kitchen highly enough.
