Changes Coffee Shop in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Called here this morning (29 April 2019) looks to have closed down, no furniture but no note on the door ? If it has what a shame it was an excellent venue.

Came here with my partner and our 4 month old for the first time the other day. We were both happily surprised by the freshness and authenticity of the food served. Additionally, the fair pricing. Coffee was also extremely good, even the decaff! Will definitely be coming back.

We called in here while out on a shopping trip. What a lovely welawaited us and the food was really delicious and reasonably priced. Would definitely return.

While i was visiting Newcastle under lyme i called in to this lovely little cafe with a group of friends, what a great place,friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price what more could you ask for.well recommended if in the area.

Went into Newcastle used a different car park and came upon changes what a find.Lovely greeting as we walked in had cappuccino and tea cakes lovely jam and nice coffee .will call again when in town .

Popped in for a coffee and was tempted by the cake! Great range of eastern food which I intend to try on a half-day. Closes at 3pm so be early.

Stumbled across Changes Cafe whilst looking for somewhere to eat. Food is reasonbly priced & was yummy, would recommend it,

Checked it out on TripAdvisor in taxi to Newcastle. 2 minutes walk from drop off by Wetherspoons. It's a very airy space, a nice space to get comfy in. Menu is wide enough to give a choice to suit mood too. Front of house is a really pleasant chap too, engaging, which created a nice welcoming feel. Food is fantastic, presented well, tasted even better! Recommended.

I must admit I was somewhat apprehensive visiting this restaurant. Using a gift Voucher from a family member we visited at lunchtime and were served tapas, it was tasty and spicy and for us just the right amount for lunch. We all have different taste buds but we will definitely return to try something else from the menu. Couldn't fault it lovely.

Working in Newcastle, colleagues and I regularly go to changes for lunch. It is an absolute favourite, and normally top of the list. The atmosphere is lovely, and the service is truly exceptional. The food is absolutely delightful and always beautifully presented. The dishes always feel incredibly well balanced and lovely. The thing we love most is the incredibly consistent beautiful food and to this day I have never been dissapointed! I only wish I could cook like this at home so I could eat my favourite dishes more often! We will continue to be regulars for some time to come :)

Piped in for a quick lunch beautiful cafe/restaurant spotlessly clean and a bit different menu the people who run the place are very nice and friendly nothing to much trouble if the location was closer to the high street it would be full all the time so come on people make the effort and try the place it's classy 😃😃😃

Although this café is a little off the main street, it is a little gem we found by chance. We only stopped for a cup of coffee, which was very good, but the choice of drinks was varied. The food menu looked very interesting and well worth another visit. Lee the proprietor served us he was very professional, polite and we found him to be a genial host. Well worth a visit.

I bought a wowcher for Chinese tapas, I had not heard of Changes before so was not sure what to expect. The lunch was amazingly good and obviously all freshly prepared, we both came away very full and very happy. I would definitely eat here again.

Enjoyed a Chinese Tapas lunch. Not sure what to expect, The food was amazing, fresh and deliciously cooked. The quantity was perfect for lunch. The owners and staff were very pleasant and accommodating as we were short of time. I will certainly return, why had I not visited this super place before???

First time visit today and we were very impressed. The food was impressive, the ambience was ideal and the absence of a smell of burnt oil was an even better result. The owner and staff are very attentive and welcomed virtually every visitor coming through the door while we were there. We will be there again next week and will commend to others without hesitation.

Came here on Groupon offer. Nice enough and great idea but wouldn't return and pay full price. Skirting and bottom of door to kitchen filthy which doesn't inspire confidence. Hope it does well though

Had Chinese Tapas Lunch. Very tasty and lovely fresh ingredients. The fruit salad at the end was lovely and refreshing. Was very quiet when we were in there.I have also called in previous for a coffee and cake which is also home made and reasonably priced.Give it a try, you won't be dissapointed.

The food was absolutely amazing. So fresh and full of flavor. Also very friendly service from the front of house guys. I will look forward to going there again and trying something different off the menu.

If you fancy something a little out of the ordinary, there is no better place to get a tasty, inexpensive meal. The Chinese tapas for two is fresh and delicious. Highly recommend

We went for Chinese Tapas at lunchtime today, using a Groupon voucher. We had a very friendly welcome and the food was so fresh and delicious. Will definitely be going there again.

Have regularly visited this place and enjoy the atmosphere. It is owned by a young man and his Filipino partner who are both friendly and easy-going. The shop has simple, stylish décor and nice background music to keep you chilled during a hectic day out shopping or just a break from work in your lunchtime. I usually have a Chinese meal and must say it is very reasonably priced at between 2 and 6 pounds. Ace place!

Good food and service - lovely Chinese tapas lunch. This was a gift via Groupon but would return and pay myself.

Took ages to find this little place, and honestly it was underwhelming. Even though I went near closing time, the gentleman was very kind and accommodating - such a shame that the decor is no longer quaint but rather crowded and depressing. Worst of all, I thought I'd finally found sushi! Unfortunately the reviews are no longer accurate and sushi is not on the menu.

Gorgeous tapas today at Changes. Fresh food at its best. Great atmosphere and very welcoming. Would highly recommend.

So glad we found this cafe. Friendly staff, very clean surroundings and excellent breakfast. Everything appeared to bge cooked fresh and was very tasty. Definitely worth a visit! We will be returning to try the lunch menu sometime soon.

Changes was recommended to us by a neighbour and we decided to give it a go after Reubens changed hands. What an excellent recommendation. There are plenty of sandwich choices but also Chinese options if you fancy something a bit different from the ordinary which my partner has tried and thoroughly enjoyed. We are a little boring and always now choose the same thing but we really love the attention to detail of the dishes, the sandwiches each come with a portion of fresh salad, a few baby fried potatoes and a little bowl of fruit.The staff are very friendly and attentive, the cafe is always very clean and the prices are reasonable too.It can be a little slow to be served if it is busy at lunchtime but they are happy for you to call and pre-order. If you have not been it is definitely worth a try!

Bought a deal on Groupon for a chinese tapas, without huge expectations. However we were blown away - a warm welcome in nice clean surroundings with excellent food. Coffee was great too. We will go back again. We highly recommend, prices reasonable even without a deal, for fresh and tasty food.

Fantastic freshly cooked food, great coffee, cosy atmosphere and friendly staff - what more can I say?! Except the Chinese tapas is amazing - so fresh and tasty. I'm not a fan of the big coffee chains so how lovely to come across this independently owned little gem. Love it!

I had the hot and sour soup, it was delicious. Really well-seasoned, packed with noodles and fresh veg. The chilli level was perfect as was the hot and sour flavouring. It completely cheered up a rainy, cold, miserable English day. (This is not at all like the soup that you'd get in your high street takeaway).

Whenever I go for a coffee in Newcastle there is never any doubt about which coffee shop I will be going to. The owners at Changes seem to know all their customers and remember what they like and don't like, so the service is really personal and they always have time for a chat with those who may be on their own. The coffee is excellent and reasonably priced. Why go to chain when a local gem like this exists?

A lovely welcoming atmosphere with excellent service and cake to die for! One of my favourite haunts. Definitely a place to stop off for a nice coffee.

My third visit to Changes for lunch and yet again very impressed. Delicious Chinese tapas for lunch followed by scrumptious carrot cake and coffee. Will definitely be returning for more :)

Delightful little coffee shop, with freshly prepared coffees and food. The owner is very friendly and will explain to you what is on offer that day, and recommend drinks etc. Nice to visit an independently owned shop that is far removed from the usual chains! Food is fantastic, Service is fantastic, and you are treated as a friend rather than a paying customer!

If you like sushi then you have to visit Changes, Very nice dishes ,good service and the prices are also good!

After visiting Graze coffeehouse it should be re named to the above! When my nine year old daughter and I visited the shop for a hot chocolate and a cake her eyes just about popped out her head when she saw the amazing home made cakes which definitely tasted as good as they looked, the service was great and we will definitely be back!

We enjoyed our little break here - very relaxing sitting and enjoying a snack while browsing the magazines. Good menu - and we were tempted to eat more but just had room for cake or two. And when I left my mobile the staff came running out to catch me on the street - would have been lost without it!

Popped in here for lunch a few weeks ago. It was very busy so we sat at a table near the counter. Very pleasant staff, quick service and a good range of choices on the menu. we bought a slice of cake to take away. The cakes were fabulous. Well worth a visit.

Went with my husband Daughter and two granddaughters what a lovely cosy place , it's only small but you get great service owners are very attentive..lovely decor and food is lovely , a great place to go to chill out and relax

Popped in today as i fancied a change from the norm.i sampled the chicken noodle soup which was very nice,good size chunks of chicken and lots of fresh veg.I followed this up with chinese pancakes with ham and cheese which was recommended by the owner,and i thoroughly enjoyed it.Food is very reasonable and the quality was excellent.Will definatley be back,brilliant cafe.

Came across Changes by accident, and very glad I did! Lovely little place, staff were friendly, accommodating and went out of their way to prepare something vegan. Food was fantastic and coffee was delicious (and cheap)

Well worth seeking out this friendly place for a lovely lunch,the Chinese pancakes are great and the Orange and chocolate cake superb.

A bit of a hidden gem this place, away from the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme and easy to miss as you walk down Merrial St. If you're after delicious food and drink, however, make the effort! Oriental lunch-time meals (as well as sandwiches etc.), freshly cooked for you, a very nice cup of coffee and irresistible cakes are what they have to offer. The chap who runs it with his wife is also very charming and personable. It's a shame they're not a bit closer to the centre since they'd be absolutely packed all of the time! Anyway, if you're in the neck of the woods, it's a must visit!

A great little tea shop with a difference, Chinese food is lovely chai latte is very nice. Please try this. It's tea made with milk and spices. A very different lunch.

I met a friend for lunch here after we consulted tripadvisor for somewhere to eat prior to a trip to the cinema. We can see why they are highly rated. We were warmly greeted by the owners and were offered the menu. We didn't realise that you could pick a menu sheet and pen up by the entrance so you can mark down what you want before ordering it. Great idea for me as I always struggle to remember a group order! We decided on the Chinese tapas. I can't recommend it enough, it was cooked fresh to order and tasted divine! Suited us as we couldn't decide what to have so this was a great idea as we could try a selection of dishes! The place looked clean and cared for and nice background music which wasn't too loud. All in all, a great experience that I shall be repeating next time I'm in town on a Saturday.

When I visited, the owner was very welcoming, explained his system of how to order food. I ordered sushi, was nice not the best I have eaten but I lived in Canada for 7 years and have been spoilt. However for stoke on Trent it's acceptable. I had to ask for more wasabi as the portion was quite small but it was rectified immediately. Service good, food average and price reasonable :).

For a coffee shop you would be forgiven for expecting some boring sandwiches and a couple slices of cake, but not here. Here you are treated to Taiwanese food that just screams authenticity at you. From the tangy sweet and sour kitchen to the great chicken soup with Chinese pancakes and all at truly excellent prices. Highly recommended, one of the best dining experiences I have had recently. Bravo.

Lovely chinese food spoilt for choice with the menu and very reasonable. Have tried the beef stir fry and sweet and sour chicken with chinese pizza, both worth a try.

I hadn't been here before and wanted to use an independent rather than the larger coffee shops so I met friends for a coffee at Changes a couple of weeks ago. The staff were friendly, coffee was nice, but our cake was extremely dry. It was difficult to eat, so I didn't ! Other than that it was good. Price was £4 for a coffee and a slice of cake.

Really nice coffee shop with some good early morning deals. Salads on the small side which makes them quite expensive. Unlike other menu items which are reasonably priced. Come here for a friendly welcome

We jumped into Changes because our son was getting grouchy for some lunch and my partner had visited previously in the past. What a great little cafe this is. I thought the food was delicious and actually quite cheap whereas I thought the drinks were quite expensive with everything apart from alcohol priced at £1.99.Overall though the experience was great and the staff were fantastic!

I decided to visit changes for lunch after reading the positive reviews on here and I wasn't disappointed! Both the sushi and spring onion pancakes that we had for starters were delicious. The gong bao chicken main was fantastic, reasonably priced and just the right amount for lunch. Service was good and with a friendly smile. It's really nice to find an independent cafe doing something different and so well. The only slight downside is that they do not accept payment by card so make sure you bring cash. I cannot wait to come back for more scrumptious food!

We have just been for lunch at Changes, the food was excellent, we had chicken Thai curry and beef stir fry both were wonderful and excellent value for money. We will definately be back to try the Chinese tapas which again is excellent value at £11.99 for 2 !

I went with my mum, niece and daughter. The menu is very well thought out and it took us all ages to decide as it all sounded delicious! The home made cakes were a huge hit with the kids. Overall a lovely lunch and will definitely be back!

Me and the wife took my ma and (sometimes fussy) pa to a Groupon afternoon tea experience at changes tea room. We had excellent service, a great cuppa, lovely sandwiches and delicious cakes. My dad moaned about the coffee but he truely is unpleaseable at times. Aside from that I would thoroughly recommend it, so much so that I have just bought their groupon chinese tapas meal

This ambient restaurant definitely rings the changes from the usual to the unusual. . offering friendly service and ab fab food.. would recommend it highly!

I visited Changes with my friend and her son. We found the place pleasant, the coffees were nice and the food was good. I ordered the gong Bao chicken, while they had noodles and veg, and a salmon salad. I told the owners I thought the salad was too small, but the other portions were good. The carrot cake was lovely, good value and a huge slice.

Really low key coffee shop. Lovely diverse menu. Chinese tapas on fixed price menu for two £11.99. We tried the chicken broth and the spicy chicken dish (can't remember the name. Unusual mixed menu, of sandwiches and Chinese fair. All at a really reasonable price. Will definitely go again

Went to Changes in Newcastle, Staffs, today Monday 14th July for Afternoon Tea (had bought a Groupon Voucher), well what a lovely surprise. A delightful coffee/tea shop, very clean and modern, and very personable. Ordered the Afternoon Tea for Two as per the voucher, and we weren't disappointed at all. Me and my husband had lovely sandwiches, scones, little pot of fresh fruit, and a fancy biscuit, with a pot of tea. Lee (one of the owner's) was very lovely and personable, and very helpful and friendly. Thank you Lee, we shall defo call and see you again for some refreshments, when next shopping in Newcastle. It is always nice to support the local café/coffee/tea shops instead of the large chains.

Support your local cafe rather than the likes of costa and cafe nero. Changes serve well cooked food at reasonable prices and their coffee is excellent

I love going here, the atmosphere is so comfortable and friendly, always greeted with a smile, the coffee is as good as any big chain but with a more personal touch, I always struggle to decide what to eat its all so good at a very reasonable price, it's always my first choice

A great menu with oriental and English choices. Prices are very reasonable, most lunches are approx £4. Food is always fresh and hot. Staff are very welcoming and nothing's too much trouble. Lovely sitting in the window seats watching the world go by or outside if it's nice. Would highly recommend Changes, there's nowhere else like it.

I was recommended this coffee shop by an old school friend, so when I was back in the UK I had to visit, and I was not disappointed - friendly ambience, welcoming staff, a unique coffee shop menu, and superb and tasty food, all very reasonably priced. Changes will be the first coffee shop I go to when I return to the UK. Top marks indeed!

I'm so glad to have found this coffee shop in town. I much prefer independent coffee places rather than the the regular commercial chains that are everywhere now. This one offers something different that's rare to find these days. It's welcoming and friendly, with such a lovely personal touch. The cafe owners know me by name now and always greet me with a smile. It's very peaceful and relaxing. Plus, the coffee is amazing and definitely hits the spot - as do the delicious array of cakes! One thing I absolutely love about this place though, is its unique menu. Not only does it serve sandwiches and other foods for every pallet, but interestingly it serves wonderful authentic Chinese selections. With it being slightly off the main high street, it adds to the ambience and tranquility this cafe offers.

This must easily be one of the best coffee shops in Newcastle, four of us went to this lovely coffee shop today and were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Food excellent and fresh beautifully presented, very good quality produce including drinks. Not normally a fan of cake but the homemade cakes were probably the best I have ever tasted. We're already planning on coming here again tomorrow.

Who would have thought you could get so much variety in one coffee shop? The only downside is that I couldn't taste everything. Really impressed with service and atmosphere which complimented the food perfectly. Whether you want a quick tea stop or to fill up on good homemade food, then this is the place to go. I've been to Changes a few times now and I'm always impressed! The food is freshly cooked and excellent value (try the Chinese pancakes), you are guaranteed a warm welcome and friendly service, plus the decor is a cut above what you will find in most cafes in the area. I would highly recommend a visit.

Popped in for a quick tea and coffee. All very nice and very friendly service. Lovely decor and atmosphere. Just what Newcastle needs - there are very few charming places to have tea in Newcastle, Changes is one of them.

The café is cosy n welcoming. The food is varied & there seems something for everyone--stir fries to bagels to soup. We had a home-cooked sweet n sour dish --which was delicious! Also very reasonable-£4. Will definitely visit again. The only down side was that the meal took a while to arrive--however as everything seems to be cooked to order this seems to be the order of the day. Next time we will save room for some of the gorgeous looking homemade cakes.

I go to this cafe with my baby daughter and we are always welcomed. Seems to be regulars that go in and very friendly to each other. It's a really good value menu- meals only £3-£4 and very tasty and different the usual food served in town. Would highly recommend.

I visited here for the first time earlier this month - it won't be the last! Only had time for coffee and cake, which were both VERY tasty. The Menu looks tasty too, so I'm going to make time... Good service, good prices and friendly staff too!
