Chai in Reigate and Banstead

I gave this place a tryout last month but found it Pricey and offering poor service. They seem to think they are a touch above the other snack bars, but they are clearly not. Try elsewhere - there are plenty of choices in Banstead, even just next door!

Best Coffee, great service, gorgeous interior

Recommend booking in advance, but they were kind enough to find space. A lovely place to relax, staff very helpful and friendly.

Disappointing experience last sunday. Ordered 2 cappucinos at the till and waited at least 20 minutes for them sat outside. One eventually arrived and a few minutes later the second one which must have been left on the counter for a while as it was cold. Staff obliged with a new one but by then I almost finished mine. To top it up was overcharged, although was refunded on request. Staff was friendly but seemed totally overwhelmed and disorganised. Maybe time to move on to onother of the many cafes in Banstead High Street.

Fabulous food and service, nothing was too much trouble. Very relaxing and the time flew by. We will be back :) My friend has food allergies and the staff and kitchen were excellent and did not make her feel awkward or that anything was too much trouble. Thank you

Probably one of the best coffees I've ever had! Portions were big, very pricey I must say! £81 for 3 dishes and 3 drinks nonetheless I'll never stop coming back. Decor gorgeous, staff friendly!

I come here regularly with my wife for coffee and we both love it. The decor of the cafe is so welcoming and homely. The service is great, staff are always friendly and attentive. Coffees are consistently 10/10 and the baked sweet treats are always fresh and tasty. Love this spot!

Over priced and bland. You can't call yourself café chai and serve a sub-par chai.

Stopped in to get a coffee… they have an excellent (and I mean excellent) selection of vegan and dairy free options for cake!!! I was seriously impressed that there was 8, different options, and the two I bought, very tasty. Food going out to other tables looked amazing too- I’ll be back!

My son treated me for my bday and took me here. It's a lovely atmosphere with attentive staff. They make the best fluffiest pancakes 🥞 😋

I did not eat here but I brought the chai mix to have at home. It’s sooooo good. Delicious flavor and easy to use. Also the package is eco-friendly.

Few vegan options, food was nice but very over priced for what it's worth, even if it is fresh ingredients & over £4 for 1 cookie!!! Wont be back in a rush.

First time at Cafe Chai this morning for brunch. Love it all. Great outside seating. Great quality coffee and their signature brunch offering was A+ . Inside also looks lovely. Great vibe and very friedly

I have been coming to Cafe Chai since it first opened back before Covid. The customer service has always been fantastic and I can honestly say their coffee is the best around (coming from a coffee snob ahaha) I am a regular every week, where I get breakfast and log on to my laptop to do work for an hour or so. It is a great place to meet up with friends and family or even have a business meetings with clients. I would definitely recommend Chai and you must get a croissant but leave one for me please.

I have been visiting Chai Cafe for many years and never had a bad word to say until today. Sat outside and we were promptly seen to with menus. Our drinks order was taken as a running club had arrived from a morning run. We were told it may be a five minute wait. Waited 20 minutes still with no drinks since arrival. The running club were using our table for their empty glasses as we were waiting which we thought was very rude. At this point we left. We would say for the future, take the drink orders if you know the club was due to arrive to prevent such a long wait, I would not recommend going to Chai Cafe around 0845-0930 on a Saturday.

Excellent service by host and waitress Maddy. We both had the Chai This (one on GF bread) and really loved it! Will be back again

We have just enjoyed a superb supper club evening sampling five Sri Lankan dishes. Superb food cooked by a “Master Chef -The Professionals” semi-finalist. Service was also impeccable.

This cafe is cozy and beautifully laid out with mismatched tables and quirky objects and pictures that draw the eye. The food is plentiful and delicious and reasonably priced (especially for the area). It is however the service that I want to highlight. Friendly and welcoming, attentive without being intrusive and always with a smile. An added bonus it is dog friendly so I was in heaven. Highly recommend a visit but do consider booking as it will fill up at times.

Love Cafe Chai! The best coffee I have had in the U.K. Friendly staff, prompt service and delicious food. Love the atmosphere too. I had the orange and passion fruit cake which was delicious. When I visit Banstead next year (I am from Cape Town) , I will definitely come back here!

Entered the cafe to be greeted with management behind the till on her phone, no welcome from her. I asked if I could get a table, she replied "give me a second" as she proceed to carry on texting on her phone. Was told to find any table, fine no problem . ordered drinks... all good! browsed the menu, clearly stated all over the cafe and menu "all ingredients locally sourced, organic" etc. Looking around i can see an ASDA delivery appear in the back court yard, funny that its locally sourced from the local asda. PRICES ARE EXTREMLY EXPENSIVE. The Quality does not reflect the price they advertise. Will think twice before visiting again!

Lovely cafe! We sat in the garden on a sunny day, it’s also dog friendly which we loved ☀️ Brilliant ambience. Probably the best Chai I’ve had - very authentic! But, the coffee was really meh and the food was massively overpriced. Edit due to reply from owner: Thank you so much for replying! We didn’t say anything about the coffee but I am 90% sure there was training on the day we went so that might have been it. We’ll make sure to flag next time :) the coffee just didn’t justify the price but really appreciate your response. Thank you!

Looove this cafe! Amazing for lunch or coffee & cake (always hard to choose..). Also took my Mum to the evening drinks / nibbles and she loved it!

We ordered Chai this with scramble eggs and poached eggs avocado toast. The scramble eggs were dry and terrible. We ordered extra mushrooms and haloumi and they added extra chorizo and onions without confirming. We had to order a new dish without meat and still were charged for this. The coffee was disgusting, I asked to make it less strong and I was charged for a coffee that I returned. The bill end up being £86 for brunch we didnt enjoy and for some food and drink we didnt consume. We like to brunch around and this was by far the worst one and expensive for the wrong reason. Very disappointing experience.

It’s a lovely little spot. Very nice atmosphere until you speak to the staff. We found them quite rude and unwelcoming (mostly speaking about the management team rather than the waitress). I wouldn’t go back here again, for what they offer it all seemed very over priced. The milkshake for example was awful, tasted very watered down and they charge £6.50 for it. I had heard good things, but sadly I was left disappointed. I won’t be going back here

What a lovely place to meet a friend, eat cake and soak up a vibrant community atmosphere. The greeting we received was prompt and friendly accommodating our request to sit close to the secluded courtyard garden. It was busy, and it was obvious that the team cared about their customers, be that the family celebrating a little ones birthday, a parent taking time to have a beautifully served coffee whilst her baby napped or me and a friend catching up to natter. Oh and the cake , I had orange and passion fruit and my friend had the coffee and walnut A lovely afternoon. Thank you Chai we will be back soon. A little gem !

Poor service, website not correct, average food yet very expensive, one friendly staff the rest grumpy especially the owner, also I booked over the phone and was NOT told of a time limit at the table, eg we will not be going back!!

We made the mistake of bringing our kids in for an after school treat to take to the park. They clearly didn't want kids in there. Service was slow and made for an uncomfortable wait. They were very quiet so no excuse there. Worst thing, when we get to the park and my son started to eat his chocolate cake, we notice the bottom was covered in green mould. Very over priced and unfriendly staff. Wouldn't return or recommend.

Cakes were served straight away but Had to wait nearly 20 minutes to be served with drinks. The wrong drink was served initially.

Fantastic visit. The coffee and cake were both excellent and the staff were lovely. The toilets had a baby change table. Very dog friendly. Highly recommended!

Chai is an absolute gem. Tucked away on Banstead high street, it would be easy to walk past. This is one of the best cafe/brunch spots in the area! We stopped by yesterday for brunch and it was quite simply superb. We ordered the Chai tuna and the sweet chilli chicken wrap. Both were absolutely packed full of flavour leaving you wanting to go back for more and more. Excellent smoothie options, the “pash’n’shoot” was delicious. Lovely cup of coffee too! We will be returning, simply brilliant.

The best place I've been for brunch in any of the surrounding areas. So nice to find a great independent cafe. The food was the delicious, the service was great and it has lovely atmosphere

My favourite cafe in Banstead! We should have many more like Chai. Delicious, innovative and very well presented food, great service and beautifully decorated. Really pleased that they are now open on Thursdays and Fridays!!!

Amazing Café with a homely feeling. The decoration is simple and gives a English cottage ambience. Service is amazing and the food was great too. The home brewed Chai is one of the best I have had and highly recommended along with their home based cakes. Will be back for sure.

Love Chai cafe. There's no lack of café in Banstead. But chai is my personal favourite, along with our little doggo. He loves the attention and of course the treats too.

This is such a lovely place to meet up with friends. Not an extensive menu which is great but caters for all tastes I would say. Too much choice is off-putting. Only downside is not having enough time as they are so popular & busy. Often left feeling rushed out.

Came here in early September, very busy but got a table, food and drink quality very good, yes it's more expensive than costa or Starbucks but I feel it's best to support independent places.

Came across Café Chai by chance. Very cool interior design, kind of French farmhouse vibe. Good coffee and delicious wraps. Cake was really good too! We would thoroughly recommend a visit.

I live in South Croydon, and Cafe Chai is my go-to spot whenever I can swing by. What I love is the consistency of Cafe Chai, as soon you walk in with in minutes a friendly member of staff is there. Plus, the coffee is absolutely delicious, and I love the food options. I think this place is a much-needed gem. I'd hang out there all day if I could, but alas, work beckons. Keep up the awesome work!

Food is presented in an interesting way and different. All positive results. I would recommend this place.

I have eaten at this cafe a few times with friends and it’s nice but I always come away with a few issues. I find the food very good, but had to be returned last visit as it was cold. The menu is quite limited which wouldn’t be a problem but there isn’t a lot of variety. Also the cost are high end and the portions are small, maybe it depends on what you order. I didn’t even have enough milk for my tea and had to ask for more. I would recommend this eatery with caution if you’re looking for a satisfying meal.

I’d heard good things about chai and they didn’t disappoint. A good range of brunch food on offer, and interesting twists on some of the dishes. If you’re after an upmarket brunch spot, this is for you! I definitely recommend the pancakes!

🥰 a must visit when you are in Banstead .. The ambience is spot-on laid back charm with an elegant mix of Mediterranean style and rich UK chiqué .. Staff are top-notch and the clientele easy going and chilled.. The coffee is a smooth aeabicca bean and milk/foam rich and creamy.. Food is in-house prepped to perfection and presented beautifully.. A pleasant café with character and artistic charm... but the croissant was old and coffee tasted average. This was my first and unfortunately the last time there. Staff was polite though.

Great breakfast option, Service, food and ambience very good. Probably the best in Banstead High st, really pleasant little garden and sofa area. Good menu options nicely presented, service personality set by the manager /owner who has hired people who care. The only gripe is please open the kitchen earlier at the weekend. I will be back again and again….

I drive past Chai to and from work, we decided to go for a coffee but was tempted by the milkshakes - glad we did, they were lovely. Will visit again for lunch next time.

Impressive menu with lots of slightly unusual twists to your average cafe choices. Delicious Chai Tuna which was beautifully presented and very tasty followed by a scrumptious slice of Lemon & Raspberry Cake.

I was looking for a place to write a chapter of a book. First time there, just a random choice while meandering along the high street. What a beautiful place! I sit in a lot of cafes writing, but this is the first time reviewing in around 4 years. The decor alone makes it stunning and unique. It felt like it had been designed to represent the human soul, felt so relaxed. Just go and see what you think. Chilled, intricate, yet spacious, deep, calming colours. Coffee and croissant were lovely, served on a funky board. Croissant was a doorstep, kept me writing for a full session. Staff welcoming, friendly and relaxing. There was a bustling garden space out the back, I didn't go there, but heard the happy family noises. Old gents on crosswords, teenagers on tablets, young families, everyone seemed relaxed. Such a beautiful vibe. For sure, it'll be my monthly writing trip treat.

Appalled to be charged £4.35 for a Cortado coffee! 55p for oat milk when hardly any was added. And I have NEVER ever been charged for decaf before anywhere, but that cost an extra 50p at Chai. No manageress to speak with. I don’t usually complain, but that’s extortionate! Nice coffee but won’t be back.

My friend and I visited this lovely little cafe randomly and my gosh it was so amazing. The staff were friendly, we had two cake slices and two teas, the cake was absolutely delicious, I had the carrot cake with was so moist and flavourful! And the tea had a beautiful presentation. The whole cafe is such a vibe, very rustic and picture perfect! Will love to visit again!

We popped into Chai on the off chance for my Birthday brunch after disappointment elsewhere and what a find! The customer service was as good as the food. The decor is lovely and it was so nice to be able to enjoy time with friends in such a lovely environment. The cakes also look amazing! Will definitely be back for more. I hope this place goes onto to become a great success as it is well deserved.

My favourite cafe to visit in Banstead. The vibe, food, setting are just right for all your brunching needs. I've visited here on a number of occasions, my usual go to is Chai This (which is absolutely gorgeous and delicious). But on this occasion I went for the halloumi bun. This was equally delicious, flavours balanced well and came with a little side salad. I also had an iced dirty chai latte, in my opinion this wasn't as nice as the hot dirty chai latte. (Highly recommend it) They also have a variety of cakes and bakes available with GF and vegan options.

The best place for coffee in Banstead! The quality is consistent every time I have been, either solo, with my daughter or my wife. The hot food is freshly cooked with care using quality ingredients. The cakes and sweet things are delicious and so obviously made with real care (the Carrot Cake gets 10 Stars! ). The decor is very cool and the courtyard a hidden gem. But the thing that makes Chai so damn nice is the warm, friendly and totally genuine care the staff show to their customers. Thankyou Cafe Chai!

Cafe is lovely. Decor is unique and nicely set out. Staff are very friendly and helpful. My cake was delicious and there was so much choice to cater for d asp dietary requirements. My friend had a wrap which was also excellent. Food is freshly prepared there. You can book or just turn up. Choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Highly recommended.
